Last Tuesday, after a lovely lunch at Sushi Gin, I felt like bubble tea. Commerce Gate has a lot of bubble tea joints to try. I have never been to any of them. I typically hit Kinton Ramen in this plaza, fetch food, and leave. It was nice to have already parked for two hours. I got here at noon. There were plenty of spots available. After doing a quick look at the bubble tea places to choose from, I chose TP Tea. There's one closer to my home, across the border (it sounds fancy) in Scarborough. I needed to check out a different location. TP stands for Taiwan Professional. I still think of my former intern who disliked a software tester at our workplace who creeped her out. She nicknamed him TP, which stood for Toilet Paper.... haha! Anyway, I digress. I walked in and there were two staff members. A young man came over to help me with my order. The Thai milk tea looked so good in the poster on the door that I went with it. I couldn't get it without any sugar, so my order became less sugar and ice. I also got tea jelly. I had never heard of tea jelly before. Tea jelly in tea? Hey, why not? I paid with a credit card. I tipped and tapped. I also signed up for TP Tea's points program. You simply enter your phone number and sign in through the touchpad each visit. You can get free toppings, free drinks, and more. It didn't take long for my order to be ready. This store is deep and narrow. You can't sit down and enjoy your drink. You also can't use the washrooms. The woman behind the counter asked if I needed a bag. I politely declined and said that I was going to drink it now, which made her laugh and nod. I wished both folks a great day and headed to my car. The Thai milk tea ws excellent. If you like strong tea, you want to come here. The milk was perfect to balance out the tea. I loved the tea jelly, which added a cool flavour dimension to my tastebuds that I have never experienced. It was awesome and I got a decent amount of it! Less sugar worked out nicely. My drink was a touch sweet. Perfect! I had a great experience. 5 stars even though I don't think bbt should ever encroach on $10 territory lol (and this place does). TP Tea is effectively priced in line w/ Ten Ren's. However, I WILL give them their flowers. Their tea is VERY strong and has exceptional flavour. I still can't say that the pricing is fully justified but they do have large sizes while Chicha San Chen at at Markville mall does not (and Chicha also charges around the same price for a smaller drink). My gf really likes the mango pomelo sago w/ tea jelly so that's usually been our go-to order. I've had their milk tea in the past and it is also nice and strong (although I can't rmbr if the tapiocas were good). TP tea is like a "special treat" purchase every now and then. It's way too expensive to be a staple buy, but my friend from Taiwan has also given them the seal of approval. read more

There's a bit of saltiness that goes so well with the rest of the drink. The drink was just the right level of sweetness and I was surprised to find actual mulberries at the bottom of the drink. When you have name like Taiwan Professional Tea - to me - that's utmost confidence in your products and that's saying something. In a never ending boba quest to try every milk tea option out there in the galaxy, my partner and I have always aimed to target all the local places and in this case local to the Toronto area. We try to avoid the chains and places we can find where we are from. (NYC) Location: They area a small store front in the Commerce Gate Plaza which is filled with other delicious Asian restaurants and eats. Similar to most other milk tea places, it's an order and take-to-go type of place. Drinks: First off, I want to say, their main tea options has some nice bold flavors and was a nice change from my typical roasted tea drinks I normally would order. I really liked how they had an array of toppings which included the classic QQ noodle jelly, pineapple coco jelly as well as a personal favorite of mine - SAGO! : ) Some boba tea specialize in one style of milk tea, but I am happy to say, TP Tea offers the classic milk tea options, flavored tea options and the popular cheese foam style drinks and in their case, it's a 'Pink Salt Crema Cheese' drinks. Their drink prices vary from $5.50 to 7.50 from what I saw but in my opinion, it was worth every penny. My partner got the 3Q TP Milk Tea which is the classic black tea and included coffee jelly, pearls and the QQ noodles. I was intrigued and tried the TP Milk tea which used the TieGuanYie Tea they offer and I went with a custom topping of Sago of course! I have been a huge fan of TP Tea since visiting their locations in Asia and I am so so happy that they have finally opened a store here in Toronto! They recently opened (soft opening at the moment) and they were planning on having a grand opening event March 21/22 with free drinks however their plans changed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, which is understandable. Their menu is slightly different to the ones in Asia but maybe they will expand it later on? I do miss my black tea with soy milk. They have some taste testers and the staff were very friendly. I think they were preparing for something but the shop was a bit overcrowded with their staff members. They were a bit borderline too friendly in trying to recommend their drinks and asking us what our preferences were. But friendliness is always better than standoffish and snobby staff! I ordered the A1: 3Q TP Milk Tea which is made with their tieguanyin tea and includes three different toppings (QQ Noodle, coffee jelly, and pearls). In Asia some of their stores only offer small pearls so I am so glad they have the big normal ones here!! Can't lie that I like the big balls ha! I am in LOVE with the QQ noodles! They are super chewy and almost 3-4 inches in length! It adds a very interesting texture and element to the drink. Coffee jelly is pretty standard here and has a strong coffee flavour and the pearls are a good consistency and not overcooked/mushy. The tea base itself has a rich and robust flavour. If you are a fan of oolong teas/tieguanyins, this would be right up your alley! The other drink we ordered was another recommended one and it was B2: the passion fruit green tea with aloe and agar. The aloe came in cube pieces and the agar in more of a pearl-like shape. I really like the texture of the agar. It is less chewy than tapioca. This drink is very refreshing and has bursts of flavour. The passionfruit did overpower the green tea flavour a bit but there are still subtle hints of green tea unlike a lot of the other bubble tea shops. Overall, I would highly recommend TP Tea and hopefully I can try all their other drinks soon! I have my eyes on the mulberry tea ones next! read more

My fav bubble tea joint in the City. Our fav is the fruit tea with Chia Seed and just their regular Milk Tea. The flavour of the fruit tea is perfectly sweet and tart. There are alot of chia seeds in the drink and the fruits are full size slices! It is definitely a refreshing drink to have. The Milk tea, is sooo milky and full of tea flavour. They also strain the milk tea to ensure that it is smooth and milky. Service is also friendly and they currently have 15% off if you order online for pick up! Coming highly recommended from a friend, I decided to pop in for some bbt while in the area. It's a small storefront but had their menus clearly displayed and was easy to read. There were so many delicious sounding options I had a hard time deciding. Being my first time there I decided to go with their top drinks to get a taste. I've heard about this brand from a few foodie friends, and I had to try their drinks myself! When we came in, the owner (Kelly) was inside welcoming us and every guest coming in. She was very friendly and told us alittle abit the brand and the products. I like how she cares about the staff as they are all wearing a mask, and also there's a shield that covers the whole open kitchen area. I ordered the 3Q TP MT (one of their famous drinks), and Kelly was able to recommend me the perfect combination of ice and sugar level. Firstly, the tea was very flavorful itself, and it was filled with a lot of tapioca/ jelly and QQ noodles! I was surprised by the portions they give. They also use cane sugar to make their tapioca to give it that perfect sweetness. Kelly was very nice to let us try another famous drink; their Fruit Tea with Chia Seeds on the house. As usual, she was able to help me determine what ice and sugar level I wanted. The drink itself doesn't have too much sugar, so you don't have to lower the sugar levels too much. If you like your drinks normal sweet and not too much ice, I recommend half sugar and less ice ;) A very refreshing drink, especially for a hot day. It's an extremely small place with only a counter and enough space for about 5 people maximum in there. Because of covid, they ask for you to stand outside and wait for your order number to be called after you order. She recommended me to try their more popular drinks, Pink Salt Cheese Crema Mulberry Tea, which has some creamy cheese foam on top of a super refreshing mulberry tea. Ok...honestly, it tasted heavenly, like a smoothie. The taste seems so familiar, as if I had tried it on another food, but I couldn't put my finger to it, but anyways, it tasted so creamy, so good and like I said refreshing for the summer months! Came here today for the bogo promotion and there was a huge line outside. The lady taking the order was very nice and offered many good suggestions on the drink and ways to save money. They really had a good system in place to ensure social distancing. I heard the lady mention that they were so busy that they didn't get to eat lunch and it was already 730 pm. Makes me worry for them. We ordered the passion fruit green tea with agar and aloe and A3 milk tea with coffee jelly and qq noodles. Both of these had a very bold tea flavour (which is quite rare nowadays). The coffee jelly and qq noodles was very interesting and tasted great. The aloe chunks had a big explosion of juices and gives the drink a very refreshing taste. Overall I have to say this place is a step above all of the other bubble tea places. Tried this place for the first time last summer and I've been visiting regularly since then! I was super confused on what to get my first time but the worker (I believe she was the manager) was extremely helpful - she explained all the flavours, toppings, and gave me some popular suggestions. Personally I really enjoy the tea lattes - they're super flavourful without the tea being too overpowering and have the perfect amount of milkiness. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of milk teas since I don't enjoy the taste of the powder, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the Taiwan Classic! The milk teas taste a lot richer and creamier than the tea lattes so I prefer them with a "lighter" topping like grass jelly. I also highly recommend trying the QQ noodle - I was a bit hesitant at first because the idea of noodles in bubble tea sounded weird to me, but now I'm obsessed! They feel pretty chewy, similar to tapioca... but smoother and less dense. Although there are other bubble tea shops that are comparable in terms of the drinks, I would suggest trying TP Tea at least once for the QQ noodle topping. read more

Came here on a Saturday night at 9 PM and we waited over 40 minutes for two drinks from their mango series. We orThe wait time is ridiculous. The drinks weren't outstanding either you could probably find more unique drinks at places like Shuyi Tealicious or Tru Tea. I usually spend a week or two in Taiwan every year and I must say TP Tea is one of my favourite chains there. It was definitely a bummer to not be able to go back this year due to Covid so I'm extremely glad they finally have one in Toronto. I ordered the Taiwan Classic Milk Tea with my usual preference: 30% sugar and less ice. It was so good! I like how strong the tea tasted yet having a smooth creamy texture. The toppings included QQ noodles, pearls and grass jelly. I really liked the QQ noodles! It was nice and chewy and I don't think any other place offers it. It's a small shop with no seating, but they do a great job. On my first visit, the cashier made great recommendations, and the service was quick. (To be fair, I was the only customer there.) The store was clean and had COVID precautions in place. Best milk tea ever & so worth the price! My favorite topping is the QQ noodles, which are chewy and honestly my favorite part of the drink. The Mango Pomelo sago with tea jelly is also another absolute favorite! The customer service is really good, and the owner is very passionate about the drinks made here. Highly recommend ! TP Tea is a relatively new competitor in the already bubble tea saturated Commerce Gate Plaza. I've had the opportunity to try drinks after a couple of different visits. Their milk teas are definitely fragrant, but the overall taste is not enough to distinguish themselves from the many other establishments in the area. While their QQ Noodle gimmick is a novelty to the industry, it falls flat on flavour and adds very little to their drinks. At the end of the day, gimmicks are exactly just that - gimmicks. Unless you want something to chew on, I'd steer clear of the noodles and just have a regular drink if you decide on TP Tea. read more

My new fave BBT place. Prior to trying this out, I was always ordering from Kung Fu Tea. Lately, they always run out of coffee jelly. So I tried TP. The 3Q milk tea is my favourite- creamy and strong tea flavour with tapioca, coffee jelly and the q noodle. It's a very small place, but they are always busy with orders. Another good BBT option in the commerce plaza. read more
