(Note: The Comic Guy could be of any race or gender, obs, but does tend to be a quirky cis white dude.) He offered general, generic help when we walked in. And then when he saw Hubbo might be looking for something he checked in again. And then he knew what he had and where it was. Awesome.

The owner has extensive knowledge of the hobby and is doing it because he loves it, not to make money. As an example, several items I noticed were priced lower than Ebay or online and when I asked him about that he agreed. However, he was still able to make his margins and wanted to better help local modelers. His section of new and used HO trains is pretty diverse. There are lots of great deals on vintage kits and older stock, but he has modern cars too with all the great details (and higher prices). His O gauge tinplate selection seemed a bit more limited but I don't really focus on that. He had a great selection of books and magazines, and a cute display layout. Behind the counter is his collection of his personal models in display cases. He has (along with his custom painter) assembled what is probably the best collection of locomotives and cars that are unique to the upstate New York area. If local shortlines use (or used) these engines, he has one. It was like looking at a museum. And, if the price is right, he will sell them. My prices weren't right though! It is quite a drive from Albany (about an hour each way) so if I need something I first call ahead to see if he has it. However, if you need advice or want to see what the new trends are in the hobby stop by. And, make sure to check him out at the local trains shows too.

I only had 15 minutes before they closed, but found a couple of slim nonfiction treasures: $1 for a Zen Buddhist journal/magazine, and $2 for a pamphlet. The collection is heavy and nonfiction, including plenty of history, religion, and social sciences, with some art & music. Fiction is a mix of non-current popular titles and quasi-vintage books. I asked about science fiction and fantasy and there was one shelf, mostly old science fiction. I hope to go back to browse, and bring a mask and my history-book-loving husband.

As one of my nephews said "it's my vacation from my vacation". Everything is reasonably priced. As much as I avoided leaving a review all these years, wanting to keep my secret fishing hole secret, I'm leaving one now because I honestly don't know if they'll still be there July 2021. One of the owners has been sick, they're not getting any younger and I'm sure the COVID 19 epidemic didn't help. I was there a few weeks ago, unpriced albums seemed to be $1, priced albums were half the marked price. Unpriced 45's seemed to be.50, priced 45's were half the marked price. I've never looked at their Classical albums, they have a lot so a fan might do well. I've skimmed through the Soundtracks and Original Casts, have occasionally bought something but never looked deeply. If you've got a jukebox and are looking for records you'll do well here. They also have 78's and CD's. Two July's ago I picked up a Hank Williams 78 and a Sonny Boy Williamson 78. Full disclosure, you're not coming out of their with any rare Rock or Jazz. I've seen that stuff dwindle down. Three July's ago I found a mono Jefferson Airplane "After Bathing At Baxter's" and a Leigh Stephens "Red Weather", this year the best albums I found were a promo Brinsley Schwarz "Silver Pistol" and the Fraternity of Man album. There's lots of books too, I've bought quite a few music biographies here. My understanding is they are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11-2:30. The phone number is listed here, I'd call first or text. I texted and received a fast response. One last thing, I just added this business to Yelp! thinking that they could use the support and I'm sure the sales. For example, the record albums are all in fair to poor condition but priced as if they are near mint. Currently, they have a Led Zeppelin album (Coda) that is in a poor, disgraceful condition. It has mold/mildew stains and odor, split seams and when you open the gatefold there is a large tear in the paper. The record is equally bad. They want $25 for it. It's a record you would find in a $2 bin anywhere else. I purchased this same album from another record shop in the area. I paid $20 for it in near mint/like new condition. I noticed the same theme with all their records. I saw Rolling Stones albums from the late 60's that were in deplorable condition...all were marked $20 and higher. I could find very few records in decent shape that were worth playing. The books were priced somewhat better but still on the higher end for the conditions they carry. Bottom line: If you want to spend a rainy day just browsing here it may suffice? However, when it comes down to purchasing items from this store you would be well off to compare prices online and with other venues.

Nice selection of unique, fairly priced items. The folk in the shop have been always friendly, always helpful everything time I've been in (All two times). What I like is their selection of tie-dyed items and Baja hoodies. I actually bought one of my favorite Baja hoodies there. They also sell my favorite brand of incense, and not only that but offer up several fragrances I don't find anywhere else. So I usually pick up that as well. Tell you what, definitely makes my suitcase smell nice when I pack it in my checked luggage. Anyhoo, chances are I'll be back the next time I'm in New York.
