I do not recommend bringing your car here at all. A few weeks ago my cousin moved to Riverside for school and his car was having problems. They quoted him $600 for 4 injectors, which he was happy to go through with. However the owner called the next day and told him the car was overheated and it needed a head gasket. The new quote was $5,000 and even though the car wasn't even worth that much they were insistent we needed to go through with the work. CAUTION: As a college student that just moved to Riverside, I came here on 10/20, Monday to get my spark plugs replaced for my 2011 Toyota Prius. I used an OBD Scanner and it said there was a misfire on Cylinder 4. I had James (Jim) confirm and diagnose the problem. He said it was the coils that need to be replaced. The fix was about 900 dollars. I spoke with my father who lives far away and agreed that it was probably the coils. I was told it would be ready the next day in the morning. The next day on Tuesday, 10/21, I was hoping to get the car back in the morning. Called the place, I heard from the receptionist they needed more time. At around 3:45pm, I get a call from Jim that the head gasket and the coolant was leaked. The cost was gonna be around 4750 dollars. I let my father know to contact the place the next day. On Wednesday, 10/22, my father and I decided to check it for ourselves and I picked the car up. About 2 weeks later (November), we had the spark plugs replaced for 100 dollars because they were old, not wet. The head gasket was completely fine, dry and had no coolant. If the head gasket was bad, either the piston cylinders or the spark plugs would have been wet. TLDR: I would not trust the place. If it was not for our judgement and my father's expert knowledge on cars, we would have lost 5k just to replace the spark plugs which are an easy fix. They misdiagnosed the issues with the Prius and said the head gasket was leaked which caused the jerking. Do yourself a favor and take your business somewhere else. BEWARE BEWARE Please do not bring your car here at all. A few weeks ago my son just moved to Riverside for school and I am 8 hours away from him. His 2011 Prius started rough idling and he checked with an OBD scanner and the codes were misfiring. So I told him to take it here and see how much it would cost to replace the spark plugs. After the owner diagnosed his car, he told my son that the fuel injectors are bad. So the quote was $600 for all 4 injectors. I told my son, I could live with that quote. The next day, the owner called me and told me that the car was overheated and it needed a head gasket. He told me that it"s $5,000 and I told him the car isn't worth that much. I told him its just the plugs needed to be replaced. I told my son to drive it back to his place and I will have it transported back to Sacramento. After I got it back, I replaced his car with 4 new plugs and ignition coils about $100. I reset the check engine light and take it for half an hour drive. It ran fine without any issues. The first few times I came here were good, but something changed. I took my 10 year old Hyundai Elantra here after hitting a goliath pothole in the rain. It was making a rattling sound when accelerating and turning. My father-in-law, who is quite literally a retired mechanic,, test drove it and said it could be the shocks or the engine mount and to have it taken in. I took it in and they called 2 hours later to report it was not broken shocks or engine mounts, but because my oil was dirty and they chastised me that I needed to pay better attention to when it needs a change. The reason for the noise was because I hadn't changed the oil and it had permanently affected my engine. I thought I had done it 3 months before, but I couldn't remember. Ok, my bad. I promised I would do better and they sent me on my way. When it came time for my next oil change another 3 months later, my father in law did it. He said the oil was incredibly dirty and that it looked like Toy Tech had used the wrong kind of oil. He put an engine conditioner in and we let it run for a week before he changed it again. 1 1/2 months later my car was making more concerning sounds. I took it in knowing I needed new brake pads and rotors, but I also asked them to double check the shocks and engine mounts. I went back and picked it up later that day and they said again that I needed an oil change even though it had been less than 2 months since my last. They chastised me for not taking appropriate care of my car and insinuated my father in law was not doing it properly and sent me on my way with a large bill. Literally 2 weeks later, my car started sputtering and I noticed it was low on oil. I called the shop and they said the engine was fine and that they hadn't filled it up completely, so I needed to fill it up more, so I did. A week later, I'm standing in my driveway with smoke coming out of my hood and an engine-notification on my dash. The oil read as completely empty. I refilled it and it was ok enough to drive it to a completely new shop for diagnostics. They found: -Completely shattered and non-existent shocks -All 4 motor mounts were completely cracked in half -The engine block had a crack all the way through and was leaking oil -Brand new spark plugs that I had neither asked for nor was told were replaced Toy Tech had not even attempted to check the things that I had asked them to check and then lied and said they were fine. It looks like they mixed up the cars on the shop. This shop is just messy beyond belief. read more

Our Toyota Prius made a terrible knocking sound Monday morning when I started it. I thought maybe the engine was going to throw a rod or something, so I found these guys. Called a tow truck, driver started it and heard the same sound I did. Dropped it off, they called me later and said nothing's wrong. What? Was driving up the freeway on my way to work when I started having car problems. I pulled over at a gas station off Center and the 215 but did not see anything out of the ordinary so I went to Toy Tech, where I had taken my and wife's and handful of times in the past. When I got there I saw James, the owner, who I tried to wave down to explain what was going on, but he told me to go to the office first, so I did. Then young lady was having lunch and talking to her mom on the phone when I walked in. I explained what was going on she asked me what kind of car it was a went to tell James the owner. She comes back in and ask me for my keys and another young man walks out to take the car inside the bay. The young man seemed inexperienced and it took him about 20 minutes after finally getting some help. Next James hops in the car goes down about a quarter mile and comes right back. At this point nobody as even acknowledge me, so when James got back I decided to go talk to him to explain what I experienced and to see what he was thinking it could possibly caused it. When I approached he didn't seem very interested in talking but he explained as we were walking into the office that I would have to back to drop off the car some other day because they did not have time that day. I thought that was fair, but I still had not gotten a chance to say anything to him about anything! He did tell me the break was a little touchy and asked last time I had done em. As he was talking to me, yes as he was talking to me, he walked out of the door and the door closed behind him, and I did not know what to think. I felt disrespected and discouraged because in the past I have driven 40 minutes to bring him my business and cars and he would not even give me the time of day. I was telling the original young lady that it was very disrespectful that he throughout the whole process did not show any value or respect to one of his customers when he came back in. When he walked back I decided to tell him what I was telling the lady he told me to "shut up!" and that he "already told me I had to bring it back!" Again I tried to explain that that was not the problem, the problem was the service and once again before I screamed at me to get out so I did. As we were walking out he still had a lot of condescending words for me in the parking lot until he finally got into his car. If he would have just taken that same time and effort he took to yell and be condescending to me, to listen to his customer I would have left with a peace of mind of when and what we had to do to find the problem. The gentleman is very knowledgeable as I could see in the times I have worked with him and it shows in the reviews he has, but I guess being really qualified can sometimes go to your head where you start overlooking the other things that make your business a reputable one. Working in retail and understanding demanding customers so I am not one of them, but this expErie me was such a bad one I was left feeling so disrespected I had to create and account just to leave my first ever review. Like I said, I don't question their knowledge, but I do question James' and consequently the values of his businesses if he cannot even listen to a customer who has spent a lot of money there, even though that should not matter. I took my car to multiple shops to try to fix the brakes, none of them wanted to deal with it and insisted that my brakes were fine when my rotors were actually damaged. Recommended by the guy from Reliable Tires less than a mile away, this place was the closest available shop a couple blocks from my own place that would service Japanese cars. When I first brought my vehicle to Toy Tech and I explained my car's situation and hesitantly what I thought the problem was, these guys did not exploit and take advantage of my lack of car knowledge and agreed it was it was indeed an alternator problem. No, "You also need to fix this" or "The car needs X and X" rubbish. These guys got to working after the the inspection report came back. While they had a lot of other cars to work on, it took them only a day to fix my vehicle up provided I paid for it in cash. They also provided me with a free oil change on my next visit which I made sure to use! Front desk employee and mechanic are all genuinely nice people. These guys work fast and can get your vehicle running as soon as possible! Only downsides to this place are how they still haven't fixed their credit/debit card reader after a year, and they are a little on the steep side. Will definitely take my vehicle here if my car runs into any future problems while I'm still attending school in Riverside. read more

I've been in the auto parts and service business over 30 years and realize That times are hard but be prepared to take your $ at this place.I took my Vehicle in for a diagnostic issue and brake problem.I was told my brakes needed New drums and shoes due to the drums past tolerance for turning and I had 10% Left on the shoes total P@L 401.00 plus tax they also gave me a estimate for 700 For other supposed issues the vehicle has.I pulled my truck and took it to another Mechanic and told him to check the brakes he replaced the brake shoes and "turned" the drum total P&L 135!! I inspected the old shoes and more then 30%! I totally believe in independent repair shops but they lost a customer due to overkill. read more
