I came here today for a simple job and was given an estimate in writing by one of the employees. We…read moreagreed on the price, I left to grab the cash, and came back 30 minutes later fully ready to get it done. As soon as I returned, a different guy came out and told me, "We're not doing it." No explanation. No apology. Just a complete reversal of what was already agreed on -- even though I had the paper quote in my hand. What makes it worse is that it was close to their closing time. Instead of being honest and telling me to come back tomorrow, they acted like the whole thing never happened. It honestly felt like they just didn't want to do the job anymore because it was the end of the day. Unprofessional, confusing, and a complete waste of my time. If this is how they treat customers -- giving quotes and refusing the job 30 minutes later -- I can't recommend this shop to anyone.

I have never had anything but bad experiences using body shops, but my wife found these guys and they were fantastic. Mario was polite, professional, and far more helpful than anyone I've ever dealt with at any sort of auto shop. The folks at State took care of everything flawlessly, dealt directly with the insurance company on everything, handled my wife's car being totaled out, and kept me informed on the progress of my car's repairs every step of the way. I got my 10 year old car back looking almost as good as the day I drove it off the lot. This person could've asked me questions over the phone instead of making an appointment only to send me away without taking the time to explain options and reschedule another appointment. There was no professionalism or nicety. Annoyed and feeling rotten (hey, I'm only human--a sensitive one), I decided to search for another Smog Check location on Yelp (while still on the lot of the previous auto shop). Interestingly, Carr's was close by (less than a mile away) and had more highly rated reviews, so I decided to take a chance and ask if they had any openings that day. I was relieved to hear the voice of a nice sounding man who said I could come in (it was already around 12:30 pm). When I arrived, there were many employees busy at work. AND they had kind (not angry) looking faces! When Jason, the owner, came out to greet me he looked like an ANGEL compared to the last guy! Jason was very polite and easy to talk to. He took his time to explain what needed to be done, giving me options and time to make phone calls and make a final decision. Although Carr's was already working on several cars, they managed to fit me into their busy schedule and get my car approved for the Safety & Emissions Certificate. We got the sticker the following day. No damage to the defogging strips on our back window after the tints were removed, and they even cleaned our car. Pricing is fair and reasonable. By the way, I have never done business there but had heard wonderful things about them. I entered the office and told my tale of woe to Robert DeSimone, the owner of this fine establishment for over 40 years. He dropped everything and led me to the garage where he asked one of his mechanics to troubleshoot. The young man quickly determined the problem was minor but exacerbated by the incorrect size screw the previous body shop had used to fix the problem the last time. Ninety minutes later, after he seemingly ran miles from one toolbox to another to find the right bulb and screw, the incredibly kind, hardworking, courteous, tenacious, always smiling mechanic pronounced the problem fixed. When I suggested to the owner that we go process my payment, he said "no charge." I ranted and raved about the absurdity of that but soon realized I had the good fortune of coming upon a fellow human being who personified some of what the Days of Awe are intended for........to reflect on how a small act of kindness can waken us, especially during these sometimes dark times, to the goodness in man. While I walked away in awe of Mr. DeSimone's magnanimous gesture, I know he, too, understood the reward of benevolence. The closing chapter of what almost seemed like a fable was, when I went to thank the mechanic and joyfully compensate him, I asked him his name, and it was Moses. Though he barely spoke English, he is representative of what our country can be and was partially responsible for making me feel as if I had.....at least for a day.....been shepherded out of my fear and concern for the state of our world and found solace at a local body shop.
