    Chicken fingers and fries
    Lynne R.

We were making our way home from New Jersey to Silver Spring Maryland avoiding the traffic on 95, coming down Route 40 and wanted to stop for dinner. We found town Grill and pub on Yelp and, based on the positive reviews, decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we found it to be a small place located in a shopping center. When we walked in, it was a lively atmosphere with friends, sharing a meal and drinks at the tables and people enjoying their drinks and food at the bar watching college football games. We seated ourselves at a table and were immediately greeted by a young man who brought us over menus and water. I ordered a draft beer, which my husband told me was made in Maryland, and I love local beer! It was delicious. Since I can't have wings right now, I ordered their chicken fingers, which you can have tossed in a variety of sauces. Both my husband and I chose chicken fingers with honey Old Bay sauce. He got his with fries and I got a creamy crab soup. When the soup came out, the young man came back and asked if the soup was hot. It was slightly warm and he told me that wouldn't do and he took it back to the kitchen and brought it back when it was popping hot. The soup was nice and thick like I like it and flavored with old bay. While I like Old Bay, it was quite strong and a little bit spicy for me. My husband finished it off. As for the chicken fingers, I got the basket of five, and the sauce was just perfect. It was sweet with a hint of Old Bay. The chicken fingers were perfectly cooked, nice and moist. And the breading wasn't overpowering. We both loved our meals and agreed that this restaurant would have to go on our favorites list so we can go back anytime we're in the area. Besides the great service, fun atmosphere, and excellent service, this is a very reasonably priced place. Other reviewers described it as a hole in the wall, and that is about my favorite kind of place to eat!

I've been a regular pretty much since you opened several years back. The outdoor patio and bar are nice. The wings are fantastic. The burger and cheesesteak sub and fries are incredibly good. You had a nice selection of vegan meals which were taken away because they weren't selling. Such a shame. The vegan wings and meatballs were delicious. Two ways to improve: get the nail salon next door to move so you can expand like Larry and Linda were aiming for before they retired; get a better selection of draught beer, or add more taps. Bring back Natty Boh draught for the ball games.

Was my first visit. Oh we will be adding this place into our regular places to eat. Everyone's food came out great. Truthfully the burger was one of the best I've had. The service was wonderful. And l love the way the places looked. A great moody pub like atmosphere.

The food is good, especially the pot roast sandwich, and pretty decent pizza and good cheesesteak subs.

They have one pool table where APA league members usually play, a shuffle board, and a number of TVs for sports games (although they are not HD). I could tell this was a local go-to for many of the customers at this bar especially since they all seemed to know each other. Our bartender was very friendly with helping us decide what to order. We got the Belly Buster Fried Fish sub ($8.99), with a side of fries (an extra $2) and Italian Cold Cut ($9.50), with a side of chips (free), along with a Loose Cannon ($5.00) & Grapefruit Crush ($6.00). The subs were pretty good. The fried cod (I believe it was) was nice and crispy and the tartar sauce paired perfectly to cut the richness of the grease. The portion was definitely money's worth. The cold cuts in my sub were fresh. There was enough acid to not make the bread soggy. The grapefruit crush was very icy. I noticed the bartender made it by blending a grapefruit fruit cup with ice and some grapefruit-vodka. When I was done with my first drink, she poured the rest of the mixture from the blender into my glass, which I thought was very nice. All in all, dugout tavern is a hidden gem that has great food and service. There is also parking on site and outdoor seating.

The Chicken Parmesan sandwich I had last night was on point and my girlfriend had a very good chicken quesadilla as well. Prices are pretty reasonable. My only beef is with the service. The bar is a little "cliquey" from several observations. The regulars seem to get waited on immediately and a newcomer gets a "I'll be right with you". No placemats, no silverware, no napkins seems to be the norm. Had to ask for ketchup when my fries came out after getting chips by mistake. We will most likely go back though, especially since The Bird River Inn changed their whole menu and did away with most of our favorite menu items. Everything is smoked now and very salty. If you're looking for ambience, you may want to try somewhere else. The Dugout is a hole in the wall dive bar and has been for decades...just the way the regulars like it!

First time here…read more.. The World Famous Crabcakes...were a world famous disappointment. All four of us questioned the overabundance of Old Bay, beyond beyond... Equally as disappointing was the Crab Imperial, dry, not creamy. Onion rings were overly breaded and cold upon arrival. Cucumber salad, and Cole slaw were pretty good. The others liked the bread: I did not. It was warmed packaged dinner rolls IMO. Bundle all of that up at the ticket price here and it makes for 2.5*. Add in the incredibly personable and eager server Marvin, and that gets them up to 3*. Terribly disappointing meal in an inviting and clean, if not overly noisy, atmosphere.

We had to wait five minutes on a Thursday afternoon, only because there was a very large group taking up an entire room. The hostess and our server Riyah (forgive me if I spell her name wrong) were both pleasant and attentive. For appetizers we shared Fried Calamari, cooked perfectly, not anywhere near the rubber bands you get at some places. We also shared hush puppies with hot honey sauce. Hot honey sauce seemed odd to us to have with hush puppies, so we had it on the side, along with powdered sugar. What a pleasant surprise. Cooked to perfection, soft with a crisp outside. Nicely done. For main course I had fried oysters, something not often found where I used to live. Fried well, not a hint of grease with good cocktail sauce along with fries and Cole slaw, sweet with just enough celery seed. My wife had a half dozen large crabs (males) and she was in heaven. Done well with old bay...I know to bring a book, because she takes her time savoring these well done Maryland Blues. The manager stopped by to chat and he was a pleasant personable fellow. Another note, considering the kitchen was taxed with a large group luncheon, our meals were not delayed. This is a good sign when the restaurant is busy. Recommended!
