We ate our pizza while birds chirped around us and almost fell asleep. This park offers a kiddie jungle gym area with a tennis court, pickleball court and a basketball court surrounded by beautiful historic homes and the New River access.

There is a community center on site but it is almost always closed, meaning there is no bathroom at the park. Luckily there are two restaurants as well as a corner store less than 200 yards from the park(I would go to riverside market so you can grab a bottle of water for the rest of your time at the park). The sidewalk that loops around the park is the only sidewalk in the neighborhood so you will also see people from the neighborhood walking their dogs around the perimeter of the park as a bonus.

Riverland Preserve is a 5 acre park in the Riverland neighborhood which is located in a SW corner…read moreof Fort Lauderdale off Davie Boulevard. The neighborhood is in a beautiful area that has an Old Florida feel with 200 year old oak trees. Many of the homes here were built in the 50's for the returning veterans of WWII who flocked to Florida. Like all Ft. Lauderdale parks Riverland is open every day from 6 AM until 9 PM. The city purchased the land for the park from the Black family in 2017. This land was their private home. Part of the funding to purchase the park came from $750,000 that was put aside by the county when Riverland was annexed into the City of Fort Lauderdale in 2002. When the property was first set for sale it was slated to be divided into subplots for housing development. The neighborhood was concerned about keeping the areas character intact and saving the 400 tropical trees on the property. They petitioned the city to keep the land in its natural state and they agreed to purchase the property and turn it into a park. Riverland is a passive park that still looks like someone's house in the neighborhood. The first time I looked for this park I actually drive by it. The original house still sits on the property along with several outbuildings. Behind the house is the preserve has ancient oak trees, sandal palms, laurel oaks, native wild orchids, slash pine trees, shrubs, banana trees, pink pineapple plants and other native plants. I saw ibis and the trees in this neighborhood are known for being a home to owls. There are no trails but there are benches. This preserve was one of my more interesting Ft. Lauderdale park finds. I love how the neighborhood rallied together to save the ecologically important piece of land. During my visit most of the preserve was flooded due to the heavy rains we recently experienced but I was intrigued by the plants I saw, especially the pink pineapples! and I will be back to explore further next time I am in the area.

The over 5 acre Windmill Ranch Park is located across from Everglades Elementary School in the Windmill Ranch Estates development. There is no parking lot but you can leave your car next to the park when the school is closed. Windmill Ranch was where some of the first homes in the city were completed in 1984. The park opened in 1993 and was built by Arvida, a development company that also donated the land as part of their requirement to the City of Weston. You reach the entrance to the park by taking a short paved pathway that takes you up a small hill. At the top is a playground with a separate play area for younger and older children. There are climbing structures, slides, and swings. I love that that the playground has shade cover to protect children from the sun and a rubber ground cover to protect them when they fall. Adjacent to the playground is a large field that can be used for athletics, play exercise, or walking your leashed dog. Like all the city parks, Windmill Ranch Park is clean and meticulously maintained. How wonderful that Weston thought to set aside green space for its residents when developing the city.

In 2021 the park received new walkways perfect for strolling or jogging, landscaping, benches, and a shade covered playground. Other park amenities include two baseball/softball fields, multi-purpose fields for football, lacrosse or soccer, open play area, and sand volleyball court. Eagle Point Park is the home of the Weston Field Hockey Club, the only field hockey club in Broward County. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the park's fields and open spaces for games of frisbee or soccer while families with children will appreciate the playground area, equipped with swings and slides that provide fun for little ones. The only negative aspect to this park is that this is one of the few parks in Weston without a restroom.

Dania Beach Arts Park is a park located in Dania Beach's historic arts and entertainment district…read moreacross from City Hall. This city park opened in July of 2024 as part of National Parks and Recreation Month. This park offers a place for the city to stage events among public works of art. Art Park was designed to showcase pieces from the Dania Beach public art collection. Serving as a backdrop to the park is the mural Looking Forward by local artist Ernesto Maranje. There is also a kinetic sculpture, Let LOVE Guide Your Way by Lloyd Goradesky and a sculpture of a Jack Russell called Totor by Stéphane Bolongaro. Also in the park is the Dania Beach clock and a fountain. The park is the site of Honor the Legacy, a Community Redevelopment Agency project consisting of markers by artist Gary Moore referencing the history of Dania Beach. Dania Beach traces its roots back to when it was known as Modello and 12 Danish families moved from Chicago to settle here in 1898. In the late 19th century it became a hub for tomato farming and the Florida East Coast Railway when the FEC Railroad Line was laid in the late 1880's. Early immigrants prospered in tomato farming and Dania Beach became known as "The Tomato Capital of the World." The markers were created to pay homage to the places, moments, culture, heritage, leaders, pioneers, and other elements that make up the legacy of Dania Beach. There are seven markers mounted to the solar light pole surrounding the entry to City Hall. I enjoyed stopping to read the signs which filled in the gaps of my Dania Beach knowledge.

They have a huge covered playground that's updated and a great destination for your kids to enjoy. Feeling the need to break a sweat? The park has a great walking, biking, or running path around the entire park. You're able to throw in a set of pull ups or push ups or sit ups at several workout stations around. Want to just relax? Grab a seat at a bench gazing into the peaceful lake behind the park building to catch a sunset. Admire the local artwork as you walk and enjoy mother nature's and all it has to offer with a burrowing owl or two. This new renovated park is a must visit and seems to be gaining popularity with the locals.

This is a great park! The new Pavilion is gorgeous. I wish there was a playground like this one…read morewhen my kids were little. I was here yesterday in the evening. The walking paths are clean and new. The restrooms are clean and there is much to do here. I wonder if they will bring back the jazz band once a month?
