This review is long overdue but here we go...STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAMMER AND HIS FAMILY!!!!If I can give negative stars I would. Long story short, Thomas Jess Towell, aka Tom Towell, aka Towell Sales, aka Towell Flooring Sales, IS NOT LICENSED OR BONDED, yet claims to be. Based on my personal experience with them I can attest to this: he uses his estranged brother's license info as his own, despite his brother notifying the contractor's license board (CSLB) that he never had permission to use his license. His wife Claudia and daughter Kaitlyn infiltrate social media sites, such as Next Door and Facebook, and post bogus reviews in an attempt to convince the public that they are a legitimate licensed business. My wife posted a review here on Yelp under the name Diana M. back on 5/10/21 and as you can see they responded with lies to cover their tracks. I repeat, they were NOT LICENSED OR BONDED when we hired them and last we checked they still aren't. They use the "family owned business" tactics to win you over. We fell for it and have been dealing with the consequences ever since. My floors started lifting shortly after they installed them and we had to replace all his work!! He blamed it all on me and tried to flip the story to his benefit, as he's done to others. We gave him several opportunities to fix the issue but it was never done. He went as far to send his daughters boyfriend Santos to my house to fix the issue, as a favor to me, and then instructed me to pay direct. He later said I hired the boyfriend direct so he was off the hook going forward. I asked him for partial refund but he only sent me $1 out of spite. He finally said I yelled at him (which wasn't true) so he's no longer responsible for seeing the job through..just look at previous reviews and you'll see he does this to others. It's always one excuse after another which ends in clients "yelling at him" therefore he refuses to continue because he didn't like the way he was spoken to. I can go on and on but that doesn't matter. I'm not trying to prove my case on Yelp as I had already done so in CIVIL COURT (Case # SCVA2101394) and WON!! I'm glad the judge saw my mountain of evidence against his lies as that's all he came to court with. Yet, he has never paid me a single penny from my judgement. It's fine though. I have a judgement on their home that's accruing interest at 10%, which is going to be a lot more the longer they avoid their responsibility. Tom was scheduled for Criminal Court for contracting without a license (Case # MSB2305726) and since he did not show he now has an outstanding warrant for his arrest He also has another case against him from one of his employees that got injured on the job. Do yourself, and the public, a favor and stop hiring this guy. If you've already hired him then just pray that nothing goes wrong with his work because he has yet to show responsibility for his actions in my situation and in several others. He claims to have been doing this for decades but one must ask why he's yet to get properly licensed after all this time and even after being contacted by the CSLB for prior complaints, including mine, and the District Attorney's office after they let him know that he was facing charges for contracting without a license. read more

The entire process was simple. I contacted Tom thru his website and I received a reply within minutes with a confirmed appointment. Tom arrived on time and within a short time provided me a rough estimate with an email later that night laying out all the details and cost of the job. Next thru the website I selected an open date for the work to begin. Tom estimated 2 to 3 days to complete the job. The job started on time and finished on time even with me making a small additional request once the job was already under way. I did have a small issue with one step but as soon as I notified Tom about the issue, he had one of his workers over the next day to correct the issue. I recommend Tom and look forward to doing more work with Tom in the not to distant future. read more

We were looking to get parts of our house renovated and our bathroom need the most help. I looked around to find the best price with quality work and Tom and his team were who we chose. We were not disappointed! First of all, I'm a paperwork kind of gal. I like things to be laid out in front of me, contracted and legally signed. Second of all, Tom and his team were absolutely on top of communicating with me and my husband. Every time I had a question or every time I called or texted, I got a response. I originally requested a quote for my flooring with Towell Sales .. I had already made up my mind with my kitchen renovation with a different contractor. I finally decided to get a quote for my flooring. Tom listened to every single requests we wanted done in our Home. He then suggested a couple of different options for us and explained in DETAIL what he can and cannot do or we would have problems in the near future( We had tile and Laminate at that time ).. He Then said at the end,It will end up costing us more money in the near future the option we wanted. I of course did my research with every contractor I requested a quote from. Tom did have maybe 3-4 negative reviews, The remaining being positive review's. Including the Nextdoor app My Dad being a retired business owner of 37 years The one thing my Father always told me "You will never please everyone" you might have a couple of people that won't agree with you.. But you try and make it Right with the customer,To make the customer happy. Tom suggested we demo and start from the concrete to avoid any problems .. his quote was detailed from the Demo of the tile to materials, installation and Clean up. He had beautiful SPC waterproof luxury vinyl flooring samples to choose from .We decided to move forward with the flooring and requested a quote for the kitchen. Both of the kitchen/Backsplash and flooring quotes were very well priced compared to other companies From Demo to installation and removal He had the Quartz sample we wanted and backsplash his input made it easier to move forward with his company ,he was very patient with us. We decided to move forward with the kitchen with Towell Sales . We are more then pleased with his work .. Manuel did an amazing job on the flooring. We called Towell Sales for an estimate on installing vinyl flooring and updating our living room area. Tom was very professional and gave very updated suggestions. Within 10 days we went from estimate to a completed project. During the project, we had several Towell employees working on different aspects of the project. Everyone was nice, professional and hardworking. I can't remember the last time I hired a company when I had zero complaints. From Tom on down everyone went above and beyond to not only finish the project but make sure we were satisfied along the way. Where to begin. I was on the fence whether I should write this review. But heck, that is what yelp is for anyway right. So I contacted Towell sales October 5, 2018, and the owner answers. I let him know what I need and said I would pay cash with the money my insurance company had given me on the same day. As we are talking on the phone he seems rushed and short. He tells me he is in Arizona with his other business and should be returning to California the following day (October 6th). He then says he can be at my residence on October 6th (Saturday) after 12pm. I say cool, can you be at my house at 1pm. He agrees. Come saturday,, 147pm and I hear no response via text or phone call and no one has shown up. I text Tom and ask if he was still going to show up considering he said he would be at my residence at 1pm. He calls me right away and says he is running late and would be at my residence within 40 minutes. So I wait. And wait...... come 301 pm he is a no show. This clown does not even have the common courtesy as a business owner to give you a call or text to let you know he is running late or is not gonna show up.. At 301 pm, I text him and cancel. We then get in a texting passing match and has the nerve to tell me "I can only assume your family is more important than my family which is understandable in the view of others." I thought he was joking. I thought I was getting punkd on mtv. Point being, if you commit to a potential client, it is good business practice to stay committed and let your potential customers know of any setbacks. And if you Tom rather spend time with your family, then go get an 8-5 job. This is a prime example of a small business owner's head getting to big for his body. This is the problem with small businesses today. I will never use this company nor will I ever recommend ANYONE to this company. If I ever hear of Towell flooring anywhere, I will immediately chime in and tel my story of how unprofessional this dude is . If I hear of Towell Flooring on Nextdoor neighbor app, trust me I will do the same. P.s. I originally got a couple of quotes from a few other flooring companies and was going to end up using someone else. I then asked for some recommendations from my neighbors and almost all reccs. We're for Towell Sales. I ended up calling and wanted Tile at first, but I spoke with Tom and he asked me a few question as to find out what my best options would be. Luckily he told me about SPC flooring and told me that it is a cheaper alternative for what I wanted so I didn't have to spend as much money. I quickly could tell the type of person Tom is and trusted him immediately. Not only that but out of all the quotes I got he beated them all and on top of that get warranty. After a few days Tom had his crew demo the house and get working. They wrapped up all the furniture so they can keep the dust to a minimal amount. No matter what there will be dust but they do their best to protect our furniture. Anyway, they laid the floors through my whole house and it is just amazing! I'm so glad I found them. Well it saddens me to have to write this review with only 2 stars. I thought for sure I had found a contractor that had good prices, quality work, and communicated throughout the process. There were some other jobs I wanted to get done in the next couple of months but I'm going to have to find someone else. 2 out of 3 is not bad but unfortunately the communication part is bad enough to bring it to 2 stars and the fact that part of the work was not finished. Tom communicated with me before the work started and answered all my questions, returned my calls even though he was out of town and really did an outstanding job, that is until the work was almost complete. I couldn't get a hold of him for 3 days and had trash all over my front yard through the weekend. He called me Monday, apologized and said he was out of town and thought the trash was picked up that Friday and that he would send someone right away. So his worker gets here while I was at work and tells my wife that Tom told him not to leave until he gets the other half of the money even though my floors were not done. No communication with me about this and according to the contract final payment is due after work is complete. I was also charged for some extra work they had done even though I supplied some of my tools to use, supplies and went to the store to buy what they needed to finish the regular work. I figured tit for tat but guess I was wrong. I told my wife go ahead and pay him and the worker that was sent to collect (like I'm past due) assured me Tom would have them finish that week. The workers came and finished the floors, baseboards and put the stone around the fireplace. Tom came back the following week after going back and forth, to make a custom mantel and assured me that he would be back next week to fix the drywall and seal the fireplace. I went ahead and painted the fireplace and got it ready. It has now been the 3rd week of calling and texting and empty promises of him coming back to finish. Of course he is already paid so I'm basically on the back burner and have been left with finishing the project myself. I hope you're reading this Tom because I believe I have given you ample time to finish the project. You have left me waiting when you say you are coming and it's very unprofessional. I hope in the future you will fix this with your customers because it is not right. read more

Do not hire...we hired Tom and he just finds unlicensed workers to do it all. He has no knowledge on the work or LICENSE (see pic below) himself. After 2 months we noticed it didn't feel right. 18 month, laminate his workers put in came up he agreed to fix then we realized it was done wrong since the first installation. He agreed to reimburse a portion but lied and stopped communication. We ended up having to redo the whole floor! Over 10k Tom does not supervise any of the work he is like a used car salesman. *** Toms response is completely false. He never repaid anything and he never informed of plywood being a problem. Also my husband was courteous during the whole time. He also did handle the last "repair" but told us to pay the guys not because he wasn't involved but because he was in Arizona! We are very happy with our laminate floors. Tom is great. He is professional and honest. He got us great quality material; everyone who saw it thought it was hardwood. His quote was very reasonable. My wife and I were looking to replace the carpet in our home. We had thought to do the rooms downstairs, but after talking to a neighbor, we decided to contact Tom and get a quote for the entire house. My neighbor is very much like me, picky! And he knows I am as well. Tom showed up on time and gave us a quote and were we pleasantly surprised. His team showed up early, ripping carpet and pad out first. Then the next day the install started. The work is top notch, they are great folks to work with. Tom is a bit pulled in many directions, but that simply tells me that so many others want his hardwood flooring installed. Do it You will be happy. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience with this flooring company. We have a lot of areas that were not secured properly and there is a lot of spring in the boards. We thought that by paying more here that we were getting better quality work but unfortunately that was not the case. We had another contractor come in to do another part of our house and tidy up work from Towell flooring. The second company did a much more solid job and for less money. read more
