The last time was pretty funny as I didn't see any activity until the owner / manager figure came back and specifically asked me about my order. After some reprimands the food came out immediately. Overall I'd say it's good enough to come back, but it's smart to order in advance. They don't have their stuff together.

I think the price was a little high for the portion size, but the quality of the food and the fact that they have to run their business, I understand. The kitchen is right in front and you can see the owner and staff making the food in real-time which is so homey, like another Yelper has said before. Me and other customers were even asked if we wanted more rice with our food which again reminds of loving home-cooked meals. Hope to come back often!

Today was my first visit to Tov U'maitiv and it was even better than my friend (who had recommended it) said it would be. We had the Moussaka, which was rich and flavorful. Everything looks very fresh, and the service was super nice. I can't wait to go back for a roast chicken. read more

When I went to the bathroom and then left, one worker immediately rushed into the bathroom only to... turn off the lights. Felt a little stingy, especially when the prices of the menu are a bit high for what it is. Had to call someone over multiple times. It's a family-and-friend business and they're often chatting with each other more than with the customers, so I think they're lacking somewhat in the hospitality front. There's a lot of restaurants around and until they seriously start showing what true Middle Eastern hospitality is like to differentiate their restaurant from others, I don't think they're going to do well in the long term. Maybe they've strayed too far from their Syrian roots.

This is the food I grew up eating, so I take it seriously when I try this kind of food; it checks all the boxes. No, it is not cheap, but you get a nice amount of food to justify the cost. To start, a plate of pickles and cup of coleslaw is an excellent way to start. That is the Jewish equivalent to getting free bread at an Italian restaurant, or a basket of chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. It is a must if you want to satiate your customers. The matzo ball soup is adequate for what comes in it. One matzo ball, but some carrots and noodles help make it more. The chicken broth is hearty and full of flavor. This is the perfect soup for when the weather gets colder. I finished with a Triple Decker of pastrami, corned beef, and tongue. All the meats tasted fresh and delicious, not too overstuffed, and the topping of coleslaw and Russian dressing created a nice cooling balance from the salty meat. The real kicker? Seedless rye! Thank goodness for the seedless rye! That is how you treat customers who have issues digesting seeds. Sorry Bobby Hill, you will not find pictures of celebrities on the walls of this deli. You will just find vintage seating, and good old fashioned flavors the way you knew and grew up eating. That is at least how I felt while eating here.
