Potato latkes were in edible garbage, hard as a rock. The service is horrendous. 3% surcharge for credit card bills then the waiter tells me I have to pick a tip before he runs the card through because they're trying to charge the surcharge on top of the tip. This is not how this is done. You run the bill through and you bring me the credit card receipt to sign and add the tip . The entrees are all a variation of sliced deli meat, whether its an open faced sandwich, an actual sandwich or a platter which comes with fries, veggies, etc. When you're here order any of the foillowing - Pastrami or Corned beef sandwich, Tongue if you like tongue. - Matzoh ball soup is pretty damn good. - Split pea soup is also pretty damn good. - We tried the pigs in a blanket, honestly they're mini hotdogs wrapped up in puff pastry, a bit oily but served fresh. - Knishes are decent, but pricy. Solid Jewish deli food. Service was excellent. We had pastrami on rye, stuffed cabbage, a corned beef cabbage potato knish, motzah ball soup & split pea. Everything was very good. Came here after seeing a promotional video by burratebabe on Tiktok. I ordered pastrami on rye with mustard, side of pickles, coleslaw, Russian dressing and fries to go. Total came up to $35 or so and I waited 5-6 min for my order. The sandwich was just ok. Opened it up and no mustard so liberally applied some. This deli is a standing blessing. Let me tell you why: We showed up at the perfect time; dining room was empty. So my man and I ate there. I ordered a small Matzah Ball Soup, fried Pierogis and a Brisket sandwich. The man put in for a spit pea soup, pigs in a blanket and Pastrami on rye. The order was ready in five minutes, so service was over-the-top fast! The pigs in a blanket are "Roll your eyes in the back of your head"-delicious. Served direct from the fryer, hot as f*ck. Ugh ... Heaven. Pierogi's, I have to say; a bit disappointing. They tasted like unseasoned Mrs. T's pierogi's... Which ARE delicious, but are out of a box. The soups were MIND BLOWING. My Matzah Ball was a fluffy, round, seasoned ball of heaven... Floating in rich chicken broth, speckled with tender diced carrots and skinny pasta noodles. I've never had better. The man's split pea was accompanied by homemade pumpernickel croutons. He described it as perfectly seasoned, not too thick and the croutons put the soup over the top. He also admitted that it was "fart fuel". Ah... What a charmer... The sandwiches: I didn't include photographs of the sandwiches because we were both so excited to try the sandwiches, neither one of us thought of picking up a phone to photograph it, first. My Brisket sandwich was plentiful; served on fresh rye (which was my choice), accompanied by a container of brown gravy. The center of the sandwich was over an inch thick, easily. I will admit, it was a little fatty, but I picked off the fat and went to town. And oh my God was it HEAVEN! The beef was seasoned perfectly. The gravy was a nice accompaniment. It was such a big sandwich, I consumed it with a (plastic)fork and knife. What a meal!! The Pastrami sandwich my man had was just as humongous; well over an inch-thick of meat in the center of his sandwich, served on fresh rye bread. Now personally, I'm not a pastrami-fan (don't hate!), so I asked my man for his review. His words: "Perfectly seasoned; not too salty, not too fatty, not too lean, super tender and the bread was beyond fresh. Two thumbs-up." The coleslaw we ordered was a redesigned version of coleslaw that I've never experienced before. It had a bit of red bell pepper in it, low salt content, only a little mayonnaise and tasted so refreshing. One of the best coleslaw's I've ever had. On our way out, below the deli counter, I notice various containers Rugelach. Rugelach... Those BELONG in my kitchen. So we picked up a container of apricot Rugelach, a giant chocolate chip cookie, and a giant black and white cookie, paid out respects and left, vowing to return in the future, on the regular. When we got home, we had a few Rugelach. Rugelach can vary, greatly. Some taste like puff pastries with a little fruit jam. Some are so heavy, they're like unflavored dough balls with some sugary-fruit-goo. But Mill Basin's available Rugelach were THE BEST Rugelach I've ever had in the 42 years I've been breathing. They're like small, fruit pastries. Ugh... F*cking heaven... The deli is NOT cheap, let's just put that out there. Our two small soups, one order of pierogi's, one order of pigs in a blanket, small coleslaw, two sandwiches, the pickles, one water and one soda totaled $81.32, with tax. This place, for two people, as a sit-down lunch, could easily be seen as a moderately priced location. But it's SO worth it. The hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut was delicious. Thick and juicy and all meat. The knish was the usual and tasty. I had a taste of my husband's pastrami on rye with mustard. It was good and fresh but thinly sliced. I prefer hand sliced pastrami and more juicy. My husband loved it though. It's nice to know that this deli is still delivering quality food. Food is tasty and service is great! Their well done franks which I request at times really leaves you a good taste in your mouth and comes as a lunch special with soup and a knish too. Great quality and variety here. You get the classic delicious and large traditional Jewish deli sandwiches but wait there's more. They have hot dog special, two dogs and a knish which are delicious. The kitchen makes some quality dishes like the goulash which my wife and I love with mashed and mixed veggies we choose as sides. The staff are really friendly and they've been there for a very long time. My favorite foods to get is a pastrami sandwich with half sour pickles. This is, and has always been, my favorite deli in New York. Their food is amazing and always fresh! My favorites dishes here: Kishka (w/ one of the tastiest gravies you will ever have), Matzoh Ball Soup, Tongue Sandwich, Stuffed Cabbage, and Kreplach w/ Onions. Not to forget that star starters of the show, the Kosher Pickles, Cole Slaw, and Mac Salad. All of these dishes are AMAZING and will really show the true colors of this old time Brooklyn deli. As for the restaurant; it's decorated nicely, always clean, the staff is always friendly and fast. This may be the best jewish deli i've been to in a long time. Of course there was pickles and cole slaw when you walk in, of course they have Dr Brown's and cream soda, and yes, they're glatt kosher, but what got me was the corned beef. This corned beef was absolutely perfect. Tender, but not crumbly. Lean, and yet amazingly flavorful! I was suspicious when I saw a distinct lack of fat on the corned beef, after all too lean = meh. Usually. Not this time. The waitress was great, my daughter and I both loved our lunch, and they even have both kinds of knishes (if you have to ask, never mind). Even though we were staying in Rockaway, this was well worth the drive over the Marine Park bridge and past Kings Plaza. I will be sure to visit again next time I'm visiting the old 'hood. This is probably the best kosher deli in Brooklyn. Sadly, that's faint phrase; there are NO really good kosher delis left here, so this mediocre restaurant rises to the top of a dismal heap. The only food I really like at delis is pastrami; Mill Basin's is dry and under-seasoned; It doesn't stack up well compared to the outstanding pastrami at a number of non-kosher Jewish style delis, most notably David's Brisket House in Bedford-Stuyvesant, or Katz's in Manhattan. On the plus side the service at this deli, back when it was possible to eat in a restaurant, was excellent and the interior is attractive, with good art on the walls. One caveat: BEWARE of ordering delivery via Mill Basin Deli's website. If there is a problem they'll attempt to evade any responsibility and refer you to the out-of-state headquarters of Menufy, their delivery service, which is impossible to reach by phone or text and takes hours to respond via email. read more
