One of our new front gates

We had a great experience. We are grateful for the hard work that Alex, Hooman, and their entire team did to complete this project. We had them add a new portion of our brick wall fence on our sloped hill. It matches perfectly to the older section. We also had them build us two new property gates to match our front door. Everything turned out great.

Choosing touchstone masonry was the best decision I've ever made. They did an INCREDIBLE job bringing my vision to life. Their crew went above and beyond to exceed my expectations. My Yard has been the talk of the neighborhood! They're starting on my neighbors houses and I'll be recommending them to all my friends and family.

Our new home's rear yard had suffered from lack of water during the drought. Although we had some vague ideas, we hoped someone could help us make the decisions needed. We found Alex & Hooman on Yelp, were impressed by their customers' comments, and toured several yards they had done. During the process, we were so happy with the rear yard's progress that we decided to re-landscape our front yard as well. Touchstone re-did our drainage (completely clogged with roots), and built a concrete pad and retaining wall where our trash cans can park. Another small curved retaining wall was built to frame our water fountain. We have new drip irrigation, LED lighting, nicely-sized plants, artificial turf, and decorative rock locations--all installed per our wishes. When complete, they pressure-washed all our existing concrete flatwork and seat wall to make it all look new again. When an old pipe failed, they took the extra step to repair it as a courtesy to us. Their work was completed in a professional manner, on schedule, and was competitively priced. Our sincere appreciation to Hooman & Alex and their team for their great work to make our yard beautiful! Definitely recommend Touchstone Masonry!

Alex & Hooman were easy to work with, checked in with me and their crew everyday. Very happy with the work provided and how my backyard turned out. Extremely happy with the results and with how responsive they are throughout the process!

Thank you Alex & Hooman for doing a professional job. Touchstone and their crew were always on time and they paid attention to details. Highly recommend!

I recently hired Touchstone masonry to remodel my backyard. Alex & Hooman did an outstanding job re-plastering my pool with white pebble. They also installed a beautiful BBQ structure with new concrete finish. They were very responsive to my requests. They installed all new pool equipment and were there during every inspection from the city, which was a lot of inspections.. Overall easy process with their crew. Would definitely recommend them!

Alex & Hooman brought our vision to life! They promptly replied to my request for a quote and listened to the ideas I had for our space and provided their professional opinion to come up with a final plan. They worked with my budget and kept to the expected completion timeframe. Within 4 weeks my new home located in a new construction community, went from dirt to private escape. Complete with drip irrigation, plants, deck, pavers, turf, lighting and gas and electric outlet for fountain. Our patio space is now our favorite place where we love to relax. I would highly recommend working with touchstone masonry

I hired Alex & Hooman to redo about 100 linear ft around the perimeter of my property so i could actually get some use out of it. Very happy i hired the Touchstone Masonry team. Their crew were always on time and both Alex & Hooman were always available for my questions! Definitely would use them again.

My fiancé and I moved in this condo unit about 2 years ago and the patio area has been an issue since we purchased the unit. As time has passed, the cracks in the concrete, the weeds growing through the cracks have grown progressively worse.. I called several landscaping companies for quotes (at least one company won't even consider the job unless we were willing to spend $75,000.00) before settling on Touchstone Masonry OC because the concept provided by Alex & Hooman was exactly what we were looking for. They made some good suggestions about the type of pavers and pet turf we should use and picked up the materials once we had made our selections. The project was broken up into two parts which started with the demolition and haul away of the cracked concrete. After the concrete was removed, the next couple of days consisted of laying a double mesh to prevent vegetation from growing back and several types of soil being used to level the patio. The different soil types were layered and were spread out across the patio. The second phase involved compacting the soils and laying the pavers and pet turf. The workers used a bubble level to make sure all the pavers were level as the were being laid onto the patio. Once all the pavers were in place, the crew lifted the pavers around the edges, dug a trench and filled the trench with a quick dry cement. They replaced the pavers they removed and waited for the cement to set. Once the cement was set, they filled in the cracks between the pavers with a special sand. The next part was measuring, laying in and nailing down the pet turf. Once the pet turf was in place, the crew planted the solar lights we had purchased into the pet turf at a reasonable distance from each other. The final part of the project was sealing the special sand into the cracks which prevents the sand from coming out of the cracks if we hose off or sweep the pavers. If too much of the sand is removed from the cracks, the pavers will come lose since only outside pavers are cemented in placed. Alex & Hooman showed up several times during the course of the project to make sure things were being done to our satisfaction. The project was complete in the specified time frame and we couldn't be happier with the end result. I would highly recommend Touchstone Masonry OC if you are thinking about hiring someone for a landscaping project!

Touchstone masonry handled our backyard remodel which consisted of demo, installation of new pavers, BBQ islands, water feature, plants, irrigation, artificial turf and some lighting. Hooman & Alex worked with us to execute our design ideas and offered tasteful solutions to accomplish our remodel goals. The touchstone masonry team were very hard working and accommodating to our change requests. They installed a 4k Aluminum patio cover for us which looks amazing and gives us plenty of shade. We are extremely happy with our end product and recommend Touchstone Masonry.

My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

Our back yard is incredible now. The crew started when they said they would, and those guys worked super hard. I was amazed at the progress they made each day. The pavers went in very fast. The side yard drainage issue I had is no more! That alone was worth a lot to me. The only hang up was the patio cover. We had to get a permit, and the city took forever because of limited appointments due to COVID. Carlos did his best to keep things moving along. It also took some time to get the materials. I think the price was reasonable for all the work that was done. Carlos checked in regularly, and made sure the job was progressing. Everyone on the crew was very nice when I went out to check on progress. We are very satisfied. I will not hesitate to recommend or use West Hills again in the future.

I originally connected with them through Thumbtack for a sizable project and scheduled an appointment for Thursday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. The appointment was canceled just 20 minutes before they were due to arrive. To salvage the opportunity, the salesperson, Chris, texted me and offered to come the following day at noon instead, along with a 5% discount for the inconvenience. I rearranged my schedule twice to accommodate them during what was already an exceptionally difficult time, as I was preparing to say goodbye to my 16-year-old dog that weekend. Chris did arrive on Friday as promised, but a week has now passed and I have received neither a bid nor any follow-up communication from anyone at the company. Shortly after the appointment, their Thumbtack profile was also removed or hidden. While I can't say why, the timing was odd, as it prevented me from leaving a review on the platform where we originally connected. I've uploaded screenshots with this review documenting the interaction, including Chris's last-minute cancellation, his offer of a 5% discount, and the Thumbtack notification showing the company was no longer available on the platform. Our project included a full transformation of our backyard, courtyard, and side yard, and the results are absolutely stunning. Jake installed two custom fire pits, beautifully laid porcelain tile, and a customized louvered patio cover. He also helped with the placement of patio pots and selecting plant material, carefully considering sunlight, plant hardiness, and overall aesthetics. Everything feels perfectly balanced and thoughtfully designed. Even though I had a professional landscape design to start with, Jake suggested several updates that elevated the entire space, giving it a more modern and upscale look. He truly has an exceptional eye for detail and is resourceful at troubleshooting. His crew, Moi and Paco, were equally impressive. They were onsite every day from 7am to sunset, Monday through Saturday, and their work ethic was unmatched. Moi, in particular, stood out. He is incredibly diligent, knowledgeable, and professional. It was clear that they approached every step with care, always "measuring twice and cutting once." They took the time to think through details and identify potential issues before making any cuts, which gave me a lot of confidence in their craftsmanship. Jake's commitment to quality really sets him apart. If something wasn't perfect in his eyes, he had his team redo it even if it was solely for aesthetics like the placement of a pot. His adjustments and recommendations made the final result even better. This wasn't only about getting the job done quickly, it was definitely about getting it done right. The end result is top-notch, and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend Jake Joe and Echo Homes to anyone looking for high-quality, thoughtful, and beautifully executed landscaping work. There are renovations that improve a home -- and then there are renovations that fundamentally…read morerecalibrate how that home exists within its environment. What Byron Schley and the team at Hillside Pavers delivered for us falls squarely into the latter category. Ours is one of the oldest houses on the block, my grandfather built it himself in the early seventies so needless to say there is sentimental value here, the years were told loudly in its dated facade ever more blindly as one by one and year by year the houses around us became more modern and desirable and that contrast was ever more noticeable when it became every other house on the block. Before this project, our front yard was little more than a narrow, uninspired strip adjacent to the public sidewalk that functioned more like spillover from the street than usable property. It did nothing to reflect the scale or architectural presence of our three-story, beach-adjacent home. Today, that same footprint operates as a private, structured courtyard -- a defined outdoor living space that feels intentional, modern, and architecturally integrated. The Techo-Bloc paver installation is executed with geometric discipline and clean proportional balance. The contrasting border trim sharpens the layout, and the modular patterning reads refined rather than repetitive. Where water once pooled visibly, the drainage now performs efficiently and invisibly -- The upgraded water line alone was transformative. What used to produce barely a trickle now delivers pressure so strong it rivals commercial output .The underground drip irrigation system is intelligently concealed beneath the hardscape and reemerges precisely within the base of our large entry planters. It is automated, timer-controlled, and calibrated for plant health without visual clutter. For us gardening is a foreign labor, the system removes guesswork and replaces it with precision. It lays the groundwork for what will be Madagascar jasmine and Rainbow's End climbing roses to ascend the custom trellis Speaking of the trellis -- it is a custom design by Byron himself and serves as the architectural anchor of the entire entry sequence. Its linear steel geometry frames the approach to the home, introduces vertical rhythm, and gives the courtyard presence and scale. The black powder-coated aluminum slat fencing, set atop a raised paver foundation, creates privacy without heaviness. The laser-cut gate beneath the trellis introduces texture and artistry, especially when lit from behind at night. And the lighting system integrated along the fence base and entryway is hospitality-grade in execution. The perimeter wash creates a subtle floating effect. The laser-cut gate panels glow from behind in layered depth rather than harsh brightness. With full color customization available, the space can transition from understated architectural white to vibrant holiday displays with precision. It feels closer to a Ritz-Carlton courtyard or private club environment than a residential frontage. Most importantly, the project didn't just improve appearance -- it created usable square footage. It has become the preeminent gathering space of our home. it is upscale functional living space. The neighborhood response has been immediate .Neighbors who we barely knew for years have introduced themselves. Passersby stop to compliment the change. The property now projects the level of architectural coherence it always deserved. We approached this cautiously. Prior experiences made us exacting and demanding clients. Byron handled that with patience and professionalism. When questions arose, they were addressed. The end result reflects accountability and pride in workmanship. Hillside Pavers is not inexpensive -- but quality rarely is. There is a tangible difference between budget work and engineered, finished craftsmanship. This project did not simply beautify our home. It expanded it. If you are seeking exterior transformation that blends infrastructure, architecture, lighting design, and true spatial creation -- Byron Schley delivers work that justifies the investment. The result is not just attractive. It is world class work accompanied by attentive customer service . Rarely do you see people that live by the age old idiom anymore who's motto is the customer is always right! But With this outfit that's exactly what you receive and working with them was transformative . We were referred to Hillside Pavers by a close friend who had completed a similar project not long before ours, and that recommendation gave us a lot of confidence going in. After going through the process ourselves, I can absolutely see why they spoke so highly of the company. From the beginning, Byron made the design and estimating process feel very clear and professional. One thing I really appreciated was that he used an iPad on-site to draw out the design, calculate measurements, and price everything very accurately. It was not a vague "ballpark estimate" type of process -- it felt transparent, exact, and easy to visualize, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Byron also helped us finalize the color choices, especially for the walkway, and his suggestions made a big difference in the final look. Roberto, who supervised the on-site construction work, was also excellent. He really listened to my concerns, took the time to discuss details with me, and most importantly followed through in the actual work without any issues. That meant a lot to me because I care about both design and functionality, and he handled both very well. Casandra in the office and Oscar as the business manager were also great throughout the process. They were organized, responsive, and helped keep everything coordinated smoothly, which made the whole experience much less stressful. What stood out most about Hillside Pavers overall was that they listened to our preferences and worked with us instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all solution. The workmanship, communication, and attention to detail were all strong, and the finished project truly transformed the property. During the project and especially after completion, we received numerous compliments from neighbors and friends, which really confirmed for us how well everything came together. I would absolutely recommend Byron, Roberto, Casandra, Oscar, and the entire Hillside Pavers team.
