First time here, love the low prices! Is the food good? I shall find out! IG @ bigphilthefoodie

Ok, here's the thing: they're cheaper than most places, but the wings are small, so is that really a better value? Pretty decent wing, just standard. The sauces could be more flavorful. There's nothing special here, but it's good for a basic lunch or dinner.

Friendly service and amazing wings! You can watch football too. Try the buffalo garlic sauce on your wings.

I just love it! Ambiance is as close to mom's kitchen as it gets! We drove 30 minutes from Huntsville to have lunch. And the price--in a metropolitan area, you'd pay 3x the price of a plate. Delicious!!

This…read moreplace was hopping on a Saturday afternoon, we got here right at 1130ish and were able to easily find a seat. Plenty of parking available despite being busy. There are two buffet islands, one with main course and sides and some desert, the other with a salad bar and more desert options. There is also an ice cream machine that my wife swears tastes just like Chik-fil-a's. The food is almost all southern, and some of it got rotated out while we ate (the chicken and dumplings gave way to country fried steak and gravy). Fried Chicken, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, fried okra, corn, green beans, man n cheese -- the list goes on and on. By and large, the food was exceptional. The fried chicken was moist and the breading is flavorful, the mashed potatoes were good. Pulled pork was succulent and the BBQ sauce was great. The strawberry shortcake was delicious. Only downsides from my visit was that the corn bread was a tad dry and not sweat (that's a preference thing) and there was no gravy for the mashed potatoes. That being said the yeast rolls are great. The chicken fried steak got rotated in with some pepper gravy (a bit watery) but these were the only nitpicks I found with my visit. Overall the best southern food and best buffet near Huntsville. My waitress ('Granny') was hustling, she made sure the plates were cleared and the drinks stayed full. Everyone seemed to know her and she was able to be friendly with the locals while taking care of business. All of the employees I saw were busy, wiping down the buffet lines, bringing in heaps of food and just making it a great experience. The value was phenomenal -- $12.50 for adults and $7 for kids. I wish they served Coke products and lived next door then they'd be perfect. If you're reading about this place and you live in Hunstville, its worth the drive. If you're a local, its probably a staple and you already know. 5 stars, would recommend. Thanks!

I guess you can have plain fried rice, plain lo mien noodles, and a veggie spring roll. At least they had that. But zero vegetarian entrees. Oh, and they had egg drop soup, which I assume had no chicken broth but didn't ask. But, hey, they had southern fried catfish. On the Chinese buffet. I'm not kidding. And then, of course, like every Chinese buffet in every hick town, they had fried mozzarella sticks that seemed to come from the Kroger frozen section, thawed out in the trunk of somebody's car, refrozen, thawed out again, only slightly warmed up in a microwave, then allowed to sit out for a couple days before being served. Can't do a basic veggie stir fry, but they can do southern fried catfish and stale, sub-mediocre mozzarella sticks. Again - all on a Chinese buffet. I'm surprised they didn't have a Beech-Nut chewing tobacco station on the buffet. And shortly after we sat down, the dinner rush set in: Assorted characters from the show Trailer Park Boys, Gadsden "don't tread on me" Flag-wearing incels, geriatric bikers, and backward cap wearing bros. Maybe it's not this restaurant. Maybe it's this town. What was I thinking stopping here for Chinese food? At least the unsweetened iced tea was good. And the staff was friendly (so I gave my drink server a good tip; the food quality was not her fault).

She enjoyed two lovely cups of their coffee and then I think water, and I had some vino since she was driving. We split a 10 ounce filet mignon (which is not on the lunch menu but is available if you ask for it) and it was beyond delicious! I trusted our excellent server (I think her name was Holly) to select the cut of meat for sister and me from the butcher shoppe, Corkshire, and it was beyond excellent!! It was just as good, if not better than the filet I split with my Sorority Sister when we came here for my birthday in February! Sister and I also shared their take on a bruschetta. It was good; however, for me, it was the "weak link" - I like a traditional bruschetta with buffalo mozzarella, balsamic, fresh ripened tomatoes, etc., and this was more akin to a charcuterie board on toasty bread slices. It looked beautiful! The meat topping was plentiful and lovely, it had more fat on it than I care to have. There was a sort of berry relish on another layer and that's where I called it quits on the bruschetta. My sister did enjoy it, though, which is what mattered! We ordered two mac and English cheddar cheese fritters for Sister, and she really really loved those! They were presented wrapped individually in their to go box, to keep each one warm, and again, Sister, loved them! Neither of us had room for desert which, since Salty Cod has a separate bakery/gelato shoppe, would have offered some delicious options! Thanks, Salty Cod, for another memorable, relaxing birthday celebration!

This location was convenient for everyone and the prices were so reasonable! The staff were always kind and friendly and we could relax, visit, and open gifts and cards for a couple of hours with no issues. We never felt rushed. The interior is cozy and the building is aging; however it still has charm especially with the endless modern, flat roofed, urban restaurants popping up all over Madison County. We typically got the buffet. I enjoyed their Moo Goo Gai Pan, Beef with Broccoli, dumplings, and hot and sour soup. The buffet always had something for everyone and our non-MSG Birthday Club members never experienced headaches or other MSG related issues here. Thanks for years of memories, China Gourmet.

The food, unfortunately, was somewhat average. It wasn't overly salty, which I appreciated, but some of the menu items tasted as though they came straight from a can. I wasn't particularly impressed with the beans or collard greens. The cornbread was not dry, actually perfect and the star of the entree!! The BBQ chicken was mildly okay, but overall, the food didn't really stand out. For the price, I expected more and, frankly, left feeling disappointed. The food was missing that soulful personality and homemade flavor I look for in a soul food restaurant. Now, the service was spectacular! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and I honestly couldn't have asked for better service. There's a large TV and plenty of windows, so you can choose between watching television or people-watching outside. It really does have a comfortable, home-kitchen feel. Parking is somewhat limited, but the friendly service and welcoming atmosphere are definitely worth mentioning. Overall, the experience was pleasant, but the food itself left me wanting more.
