This is known as DC Fit I think. Perhaps its a name change but I have no idea. I went today to check it out and the front desk lady was passed out at the front desk. Like slouched over and sound asleep with people there during normal business hours. Ummm yeah, that was enough for me to get out of there ASAP. The gym looks great if you're just looking to pump iron. Other than that, this gym serves no other purpose from what I saw. $65/month is a good deal. This gym has fraudulently charged my card since signing up, and I have yet to receive the rest of my refund from the owner. Even the staff present at the front desk are unable to offer any actual assistance regarding this issue. I know after speaking to a staff member that 10-15 other people have had the same problem, and the owner simply doesn't seem to care. This gym is either a full-on scam or just extremely mismanaged. As for the gym itself, there are leaks everywhere, weights are strewn about the weightlifting area and not racked, mosquitos are constantly present in the spring/summer months, and the overall condition of the gym is in terrible shape. As someone without a car who understands the importance gym proximity plays into consistency, that's the main reason I chose this gym, but alas my days are coming to an end The semi positive - it has what you need to get a quality weight lifting session in. It's rarely crowded, even during peak times there are usually enough racks or benches for you to get something done unlike traditional big boxes where you may have to wait 10 mins for anything to open up. The staff seems pretty attentive to the floor, and the patrons are good about re-racking weights or deloading plates The bad - no money put into the equipment or building, I get buying used equipment to get started but the cable machines are in really bad shape, too much friction between the belts/cables for smooth movements. The dearth of cardio equipment is sad, pretty much a few treads, a couple spin bikes, maybe 3 ellipticals - the most pointless cardio equipment there is, and one rower on its last leg No rehab of the building - tons of leaks in the roof on rainy days which leads to puddles and wet turf and mats, there are missing windows, no insulation so when temps hit 80+ from june - august, you're likely to pass out from heat stroke, then when temps drop below 50 in the winter, you're likely to pull a muscle even after a long warmup Like a couple others wrote, no paper towels in the bathroom...that's just not right. The doors are pretty much always propped open to the locker room so this isn't a place where you'd want to change - come to the gym dressed. There are cubby sized lockers which fit a hoodie or whatnot, but don't expect to store a gym bag here, either leave it sitting out or take it on the floor with you. The place opens at 9am during the week which precludes getting an AM workout in for most working people Lastly, this place was flagged for billing issues in the past and stolen credit cards - I was double billed within the first month and this week I saw fraudulent charges on my credit card for airfare and while I can't 100% trace it back to here (still under investigation), given this was an issue that they acknowledged in the past, it is the highest suspect place as I don't use the card for much other than subscription services and two fitness memberships, this gym being one of them. So I'm out, I got far more from run down 24 hour fitness locations - at least they had classes and climate control - for $40/month than what I've gotten here for $70 I really want to see black businesses succeed, in addition to proximity, that's another reason I joined, and as the other reviewer pointed out, this is a golden opportunity given the sheer number of apartment buildings in the area, this place has a huge captive audience for those seeking a gym beyond their building, but they're missing the mark in every imaginable way read more

Liked this place when I worked out there, but they have repeatedly tried to fraudulently charge my card after I cancelled my membership, even over a year after I left. Their cancellation process is sketchy--they make you do it in person and fill out a form there (probably to make sure there's no electronic record to use against them). Went to this gym for a year. It was ok. Most things are broken and never fixed. When I found out I was moving I tried to cancel my membership and was told by basically every employee none of them knew how. Tried about a dozen times in a few months. The employees are essentially useless as none of them can process a cancellation nor do they know who can. So know I have to have my bank block them from charging me and back charge them for the months. They told me when I signed up cancelling was quick and easy. Clearly a lie. I don't recommend ever going here. It's insanely overpriced. read more

I liked the gym. Was hard to hear my music but whatever. However stay away. Completely fraudulent billing practices. They don't allow you to cancel your membership unless it is in person and will keep charging your card. (Or try to charge your card over multiple months even if it kept on declining their transaction). What if people MOVED? I went in person to cancel my membership and I was told I owe hundreds of dollars for unpaid transactions. For a monthly subscription of $70? If I didn't pay the first time you revoke my service you don't accrue charges. I then asked, if I tried to work out here today or any other days where I "owed," would I have been allowed. I was told of course not. As I thought - so why am I owing money for a service I wouldn't have been able to use in the first place. I even said I would pay for one month of service to cancel trying to compromise and the lady told me no I owe hundreds. Welp now you get nothing. I plan on reporting to BBB. The lady in the front even said I'll call the owner on you. Tf I'm supposed to be scared? Before I came to the gym, I saw the reviews of their shady billing practices - but I try my best to support Black owned businesses because people really are harsher critics when it comes to us. I love this gym. Close by and has all the equipment you need to get at it. This is a no frills gym. Just open space and tons of equipment. I go with my fiance to work out together and she is also a fan. She typically works with aerobic, alternative bands, and ropes. Would highly recommend this gym to anyone. If you are someone who is looking for somewhere to conduct a serious and dedicated workout regimen,they have all the equipment you'll need and you won't have to worry about waiting your turn for a bench or rack or cycling in and out for reps with someone like you might experience at Golds. If you're someone who is just getting started, this gym may look intimidating but the owner and staff are super friendly and encouraging and the environment is really chill and non judgmental. Also, they used to share the space with a boxing or MMA outfit but they've recently taken over the whole building and added a decent amount of equipment. Opening up the layout really made a big difference in the feel too. One tip: No water fountain so bring your own water bottle. If you do preworkout, take it at home and refill the bottle with water before you leave for the gym. read more

Having recently moved from Texas, my husband and I were looking for a similar gym to what we had in Houston. The options in the area were limited, but Total Source met all of our needs in terms of weights and equipment. Keep in mind that this is a no frills gym - doesn't come with all the bells and whistles you get with boutique gyms, but if you are serious about working out and lifting, this is the place to go. Very reasonably priced and never had issues with billing. Great location in Union Market as well. read more

This gym will kick your ass. I've undergone a total lifestyle change, enabled and supported by the team here. It's no frills gym - really for powerlifting, CrossFit, HIIT. They've got treadmills, machines, etc but that's not what you come for. January, like everyone, I wanted to hit the gym. I was 230 pounds - thicc with two Cs. The team there - from the owner down to trainers like Corey, David, and John have been supportive and motivating. I'm now down to 190, and continuing to drop. Come here, kick ass, repeat. I would give negative stars if possible. As others have said the billing practices are straight up fraudulent. After being charged in error up 3Xs more than once my husband cancelled his membership. This was at least 3 months ago..yet they CONTINUE TO CHARGE HIM. don't even let them have your credit card number or you'll be fighting their FRAUD for months to follow. Awesome gym with great prices. Was honest and fair during COVID as they froze all memberships until they could open again. AND during the downtime, the gym literally got better. Added equipment, painted walls, added a TURF (!), and spaced out equipment. Place has outdoor equipment and garage doors that open for added airflow if you're inside. We loved our trainer a lot! But I think someone at the gym used our card on file fraudulently right before Christmas to the tune of over $2000. The card wasn't used at all, except for our monthly membership payment, and then there were two charges to a random square account in late December. Both charges were keyed in - so someone just gleaned the data. I called last week to get a receipt for the last few months of membership charges, and mentioned to David the manager what had happened, but he really didn't seem surprised and never even acknowledged what I had said. Oh, he also said that I had to come in to cancel my membership. LOL. I told him that you can try to charge the card on file, but as we had to CANCEL it because of FRAUD, it's not going to work, so you can just note our membership as canceled. Needless to say, I have yet to see a receipt from them. read more

I'm originally from California and was excited when I discovered TFS as it's just like the gyms back home with its warehouse feel and outdoor turf area with tires and sleds. Been going to this gym for almost 2 years now. If you're trying to get a good pump in or want to do some solid HIIT outside on the turf area, this is the best spot in DC. The owner Kent is legit and cares about his customers. He and his staff of trainers go out of their way to get to know their members and really give the gym a neighborhood feel. Membership fees are the best in the city as you won't be paying those ridiculous Vida or WSC prices. This is a lifters gym no doubt, but if you're new to the game, Kent's team will get you rolling and in shape. If you're going to Vida or elsewhere, you're just throwing away cash. read more

The perfect place to go apply your craft and pick up a barbell. This gym caters to everyone and emphasizes being willing to put in the work, above all else. Kent has stocked the gym with six squat racks, so you'll very rarely have to wait. There are no frills here. And that's a good thing. read more

The gym's offerings are good. Its a no frills kind of place but reasonably priced and great location. Unfortunately, my life style changed where I started working on the road a lot more and needed to cancel. In December I went to the gym in person to cancel and was assured it would be taking care of. Fast forward 3 months, I am still being charged. Each month I called and each month I'm assured the issue will be fixed and the amount that was charged (beyond the first month of cancellation) would be put back on my card. In the past month, when I call and email no one picks up or responds. I've come in person, but am told the person at the desk can not help and that I'll need to speak with management. I have 2 kids and job that requires a lot of travel and don't have time for these games. I'm happy to modify this review if there is a misunderstanding, but I struggle to see it any other way at this time given the lack of communication. I've seen instances of fraud in other comments and wonder if that is whats happening to me too. The gym has made unauthorized draws on my card twice so far. Unless I hear something this week, I'm just going to cut my losses and block the vendor on my credit card. Unreal.... If you consider joining this gym, I highly encourage you to only pay your membership in cash. read more

IM REPORTING THIS GYM FOR FRAUD! Total Source Fitness has been charging me $45 a month for a gym membership I canceled 8 months ago. I have visited in person 3 times, called closed to a dozen times, texted 4 times, and at each contact was informed that it would be taken care of and I would receive a confirmation that the refund was in process. I have still yet to receive a confirmation, or a refund and have been charged monthly since. I am sick of seeing the bill on my account each month, calling and explaining the situation to management ( David) being promised he will fix it and then still losing out on close to $300 for a gym I no longer belong to. I called him again today and it went to voicemail. I will continue to update this thread until the issue is resolved. UPDATE*** After begging with David for about 8 more phone calls to have the issue resolved, they finally refunded me 4 months. The last month they refused to refund because they have me using the gym that day. I tried to explain to them that using the gym means giving my keycard to look up my membership to cancel it.David then asked me if I could do something about my google review since his boss was dissapointed in him for having this issue reach a level so high. I refused because I do not want anyone else going through this disaster of a gym. David texted me my receipts of refund and I thought the fight was finally over. Until today when I checked my bank account and TSF charged me an ADDITIONAL 3 MONTHS OF PAYMENTS AND A $10 FEE. When David assured me that my banking information would be removed from there list and there would be no possible way for me to be charged again. David even mentioned that once my banking information was removed they would have no way of refunding me. read more

Happy to review Total Source Fitness and so glad that there is finally an affordable gym in the district that has a gym that suits me and probably many other people in this great city. I recently ventured into TSF when I found out it's not just a personal trainer's gym--it's a gym where all of us regular Joe's and Jane's can get a great workout in. Part of getting a great workout is the equipment and the atmosphere and TSF didn't disappoint: with dumbbells up to 150 pounds (!), plenty of other free weights, all that I need to kill it. This includes several squat racks, bench press stations, adjustable benches and the basic leg machines you would want and need. There's also a few pieces of cardio equipment as well. This is def a no frills place in the best way--people from all walks, shapes, and genders come here to train, gain and move on. It's not a fancy fitness studio with fancy amenities--which in a town where you can pay double or triple what the monthly rate is here, is a welcome change. I love the hardcore yet hygienic feel of training in an industrial space that has seen various business come and go and can only hope that having an affordable real gym to train in will mean that Total Source will be a permanent fixture of the neighborhood. Are you going to find a fancy sauna, with mint flavored water, soothing music and the like? No. But you will find a gym with a great atmosphere where people to their thing, get in and get out. But what you do have is a place where you can train hard and no one is going to give you weird look for making a little noise as you set weights on the floor. Is there a posh smoothie bar? No. But Union market is just steps away. Personally it's great to have a gym so convenient to the places i hang out including the H street corridor which is walk-able. If you are into fitness classes, boot camp and the like this will also be a great place if you like to get your sweat and swole on with others. Total Source Fitness is metro accessible--a few blocks from the No-Ma Galludet station, in the heart of union market. Parking can get busier on the weekends but the foot traffic in the gym itself has never been too much. What's more, the owner Kent has a true passion for working out, meeting his members and ensuring you have all that you need to get a great session in. read more

This gym has put me through a HORRIBLE billing and customer service experience. I was working in DC for one month back in October 2017, so I joined for one month only. I made that explicitly clear during my sign up, but in January 2018 I noticed that I'd been billed for 2 extra months. I have been calling every 2 weeks for FOUR MONTHS to get these charges reversed -- not only have I received no refund, but one employee inexplicably charged me an additional $72 for no reason. The owner Kent has refused to get on the phone with me or return calls or emails and the manager David has repeatedly blown me off. I don't understand why they won't just refund me the $156 I am owed. It is truly cruel to make someone call over and over and over again and refuse to give a working person a refund for your mistakes. I plan to report Total Source to the Better Business Bureau. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! I TRIED TO GIVE AN INDEPENDENT GYM A CHANCE BUT ENDED UP GETTING BURNED BECAUSE THEY DO SHADY BUSINESS!! I was just scammed out of my money. I had cancelled my account and was still being charged. The person at the front desk, David was confrontational and accused me of lying. When I got upset that he tried picking a fight with me he then turned around and told me that he's not going to help me because I had an "attitude"....He only said this because his "BOSS" came and sat next to him, and he didn't want him to know he was the one being rude with me in the first place. They wouldn't even give me a credit for the money that was owed back to me. I would of gone back to the gym but after what happened I will not be returning. They have horrible customer service and are shady. The front desk is not professional and does not know how to treat their customers. As long as they are getting money out of you they are happy until you cancel and are treated horribly!! The first trainer that I went to was awful. He was always late, talking on his phone during sessions, was never prepared for the sessions and would tell me that he was "winging" it. Even after this horrible experience and money that I lost on a BAD trainer I still gave them a second chance. I ultimately left because of the unprofessionalism, inconsistency with classes and the horrible front desk person David, that is immature and lacks customer service. In regards to previous reviews about fraudulent billing, this was due to 1 employee at the front desk that was hired for a period of a few months. This employee had ill intentions and unfortunately stole credit card information from new customers or customers who had to change their card on file (including me). This could've happened to anybody. I have no negative views about Total Source over this incident. Further, one other employee (David) at the front desk is one of the nicest, amiable people you'll meet so I am very confused to hear about a supposed "confrontation" between he and a customer over monthly Billings. I have been going to Total Source for a little over 2 years now and have seen such a transformation. Sure, the place isn't Equinox and could probably use a water fountain or 2, but in terms of gym equipment, there's not a whole lot more you can ask for. It also may not be as cheap as Planet Fitness (19.99/month compared to $40/ month) but it gives you a fuller experience than PF in my opinion. I spent so long looking for a gym like this in DC! Total Source Fitness is a great gym, with all the equipment you could need for a really good workout. The owner Kent takes such pride in the gym, really cares about his clients and has a true passion for fitness. This is a place you can come any day of the week, always be welcomed by a friendly face and have no judgement passed. If you are interested in PT, Kent, Victor and Josh really know their stuff and will invest their time to help you reach your goals. I have been working with Kent for about 2 months now and have not only learned how to train better, but to train safer, which was a huge thing for me because I had a few lingering injuries which i was worried about! With that being said, it is a judgement free environment with a friendly staff, knowledgeable owner, and all of the equipment needed to get a pump without all of the bells and whistles. SO grateful to Kurt for inviting me to join his gym! This amazing hidden gem is the best in the area for the serious athlete. Everything you need for cross training to bodybuilding is here, and you don't have to feel out of place for actually lifting heavy weight (as opposed to other nearby "fitness" centers). Could use another cardio machine or two and maybe some more equipment here and there, but for a growing gym (they've only been open since January) you can tell they have invested a lot here and will continue to do so.
