Based upon my experience, this is not the place to go for rib injuries like costochondritis. I had therapy here for 6 weeks and, while they were able to increase flexibility and strength, they really do not deviate from their playbook which did not include addressing my main problem and what brought me into the office to begin with. When, after about four weeks, I mentioned to Chip that I believed it was costochondritis, he was rather dismissive, even after I forwarded information to him about the condition. Well, if all you want to do is run your playbook, who needs a diagnosis? At that point I started to look elsewhere. Upon discharge, he admitted to me that they have not had as much success as they would like with rib and hip injuries. I would've preferred to hear that at onset. Also, I do not recommend spending the $1000 for their laser therapy. The results for me were extraordinarily temporary, despite being applied directly to the rib cage area during my tenure there.. 2025 Update: I was able to get significant relief from an out of state osteopath who specialized in OMT and was able to place the ribs back into place. Forget wasting your time, energy and money on practices that do little more than run their play book. read more

I have received therapy on my lower back. I wasn't able to bend or climb steps when I started. The therapist are awesome they give you one on one sessions they do exercises to make you better but in an unique way they work the side opposite the side is hurting and throughout your time there they teach how to help yourself through home exercises. Tamara, Chip Michael and Vince are great people they are friendly and they teat you like family. Everyone is polite and respectful. They are the best. I highly recommend them. read more

TLDR: One of the best physical therapy experiences I have ever had, hands down. If you are in doubt, give the consultation a try and see what Total Motion is all about. I went into my first week of PT with Total Motion a bit skeptical. The thought was that we are going to work other parts of the body and see how it impacts a particular motion or movement. Initially I was wondering whether this would actually work or if it was just something that caught people's interest but was not truly a solution. I am happy to say that within the first week of working with Chip and Prachi I was quickly proven wrong. I was recommended to Chip and Prachi by my chiro after going for a year plus with some nagging weightlifting injuries that I tried to lift through. She recommended Chip as both a PT that accepts insurance as well as a different way of getting me back to powerlifting as quickly as possible. For reference; I could not squat any more than 135lbs without my entire body shifting and hips rocking both on the way down and the way up and because I ignored that for too long problems seeped into my thoracic spine and my shoulder. I started in March of 2022 three days a week working with both Chip and Prachi and am happy to say that as of writing this review in July of 2022 I am officially discharged and back to my training stronger than ever. I know I would not be writing this review if it had not been for the hard work and dedication Total Motion puts in to each and ever client and ever visit. This is not a traditional PT where a therapist moves you, stretches you, massages, and gives you a couple exercises and calls it a day. The hour-long sessions are the diagnosis and possible treatments while the homeplans are the medicine to help you get healthier. You need both in order to get the best possible results out of this type of physical therapy. There is no leaving PT and progressing the way you want without making sure to do your exercises at home. All-in-all? I 100% recommend giving Total Motion a chance no matter the size or severity of your injury. You are not stuck into a cookie-cutter mold with these folks. After being treated by two different physical therapists and not getting any relief, since they mostly just provided instruction sheets. a After researching providers, I found Total Motion Physical Therapy and was impressed by their being selected the top therapist in Raleigh since 2019. This made my choice very easy, and I have not been disappointed. My painful arthritic hip has impaired my walking and caused many mobility issues. Injections helped but my orthopedic dr. suggested I needed PT. Chip Moseley and his team developed a specific program for me. I would be working one on one for each visit performing uncomplicated exercises focusing on steps that avoid pain. This is not your typical physical therapy. Chip focuses on exercises that provide results while avoiding pain. After my first treatment which included a laser, my walk back to my car was almost pain free. My pain level continued to diminish with each session. I want to thank the entire team, Chip, Tamara, Michael, and Vincent for being focused on improving my quality of life utilizing exercises that are developed to work and at the same time avoiding pain. If anyone of you have tried other programs but still suffer, you need Chip Moseley and Total Motion Physical Therapy. read more

Previous reviews state that this is not your typical physical therapy clinic and they are correct. It's physical therapy taken a step further and centered on a deeper understanding of the body. At first I was perplexed by this but I came to appreciate how it works and how I could learn to help myself with my physical therapy. It's true that if you have tried physical therapy and have not had good results then this is the place for you. But remember, you have to put in the effort and I found that I achieved great results with just 20 minutes a day. Doing more increased my recovery without increasing my pain. In fact if you are doing the exercises and you have pain then you are doing something wrong. Here it's not no pain no gain---it's no pain (exercises done right) equals gain. When I first came to Total Motion PT, I could not sit down without feeling stiff and tight; I could not stand up without having to take weight off my left leg; and I could not continue my martial arts classes because of my restricted mobility. In short, I could not work out to the capacity that I wanted to, and this left me enormously frustrated with myself. After about a month in, though, I am actually even more flexible than before I got injured! I can get well below parallel on my squat; my martial arts strikes have never felt more powerful; and my legs feel loose, flexible, and relaxed. I feel like I have no restrictions on what I can do with my legs. I can finally get back to the physical activity I did before. I can't thank the entire staff--Chip, Prachi, Tamara--for their work in making me better. I am am active senior, and after hiking a trail in Umstead Park at Thanksgiving last year, my right knee was inflamed and my entire right side was stiff (right side was somewhat stiff before hike.) Within 3 weeks of treatment at Total Motion I had improved about 90%. I was able to pivot on my right knee "with happiness," and for a dancer that is a big deal!!! I am working for 100% improvement, i.e. - no stiffness or tightness in muscles anywhere. I also really appreciate the fact that the principles learned at Total Motion PT can be utilized to address discomfort/pain in the body with out having to go back for therapy. Chip also makes his book available for free, which explains basic principles, and is willing to work with his clients to meet their goals. Thanks Chip! I came to Total Motion P. T. with considerable back, hip and shoulder pain. I wasn't able to bend or stoop down very well, and had difficulty lifting anything over 10 or 15 pounds. Now I am 90% better in bending, stooping, and lifting, and am nearly pain-free. Their therapy has helped me immensely, and has taught me techniques to help myself when I feel pain and stiffness in certain areas. I was referred to Total Motion PT for recurring shoulder and lower back pain and have never looked back. As someone who had been to physical therapy many times over the years, I expected to be handed a cookie cutter set of exercises to do in the clinic and at home. Instead, I was trained in Total Motion Release, a process of testing and treating that allows patients to figure out what works best for their own body. As an example, I discovered that arm exercise worked best for my lower back pain. For someone else with the same problem, different exercises might work better. For this reason, treatment is 100% tailored to the individual. The first time I went in with back pain I had been unable to work because it was too painful to sit up. They worked with me that day to find a comfortable sitting position even before my treatment got started. Instead of spending weeks in therapy waiting for some improvement, I left every session in less pain than when I went in and I recovered faster than ever before. Because Total Motion genuinely cares about helping people heal, their goal is to empower their patients to be able to treat themselves for any recurring or future problems.
