Called Residential Express for a full-system replacement quote in October. Was pleased with the…read moreexperience, which simply involved taking measurements and asking what changes I might want with the setup--much better than the high-pressure sales pitch from the bigger companies in the area. We pushed off the replacement thinking our unit would survive one more winter, but of course of furnace went out unexpectedly in the middle of the night during one of the coldest stints of the season. Called Residential Express the following morning, they pulled up my quote from 4 months prior, verified the price hadn't changed and were able to schedule me for a full HVAC replacement the next day. Freddie and Flavian arrived on time and were very professional moving through our house and working in our backyard and utility closet. They explained any changes they needed to make, went over the new setup and recommended service intervals, and hauled all of the old equipment away, leaving our house looking better than when they arrived. Very happy with our experience with Residential Express and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Literally wearing a sweater and two sweater wraps. New HVAC filter, reset breaker. Thermostat batteries are fine. Still not kicking on. Sent Yelp message to RES because they have always been quick to respond. And they did this time as well and the woman who gave me a call was nice and tried to help. Pretty disappointed that they can't quickly swing by today. From what I've read, it's likely a dirty flame sensor or the ignitor switch (neither of which is a long job - I just don't have the tools). HVAC less than 5 years old, so parts are under warranty with RES; however, I had to call someone else. Bottom line: Someone else is coming today, but I could end up paying for parts. Kind of feels like my current needs weren't lucrative enough for RES to make a concerted effort to swing by.

Shanahan's HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical & Remodeling LLC came out right before an impending severe snowstorm and worked in sub-15° weather from 8 AM to 8 PM to uninstall our broken Heat Pump and Air Handler and replace them with a brand new Heat Pump and Air Handler. Simply put: these guys were the best. Incredibly professional, hardworking, and dedicated from start to finish. They didn't rush a single step. They also helped install a new thermostat, made sure everything was running smoothly, and ran all the necessary tests to ensure the system was operating perfectly before they left. Huge shoutout to Elijah as well!. He took the time to explain everything in detail about the humidifier, thermostat, and Air Handler, and gave us genuinely valuable maintenance tips that made us feel confident moving forward. C.D. Shanahan is probably the best HVAC company you've never heard of. If you want a team that shows up, works hard, communicates clearly, and takes real pride in doing the job right. Highly recommend.

I knew what I needed to get my HVAC fixed (evaporator coil with txv) so I asked them for a quote. While most companies wanted to charge up to $125 to come out and "re-diagnose" (despite having 3 different companies come out), Cong quoted me a price that BLEW THE COMPETITION AWAY. Longer story below if you want to read, but long story short, these guys are honest, honorable businessmen. It's so refreshing to find people that still know how to do good business and make you feel secure about giving them your hard earned money. Look no further than these guys. Trust me, you won't regret it! Here's the longer story. Some of you may find it helpful: Moved into my new place in Oct 2021. In Aug 2022, bam! A/C goes out. It's not blowing cold air. I had houseguests so was eager to get it fixed. Hate to sound cliché, but yes, it was one of the hottest days of the year. Without thinking, I reached out to a company that had good reviews on yelp. This is estimate number 1. Charged me 89 bucks to come out, and told me I needed a txv valve and he could replace it for 1700. He said I could replace evaporator coil with txv for 2700 and get it replaced quicker. I was not wanting to pay that much, especially since I had just moved in, so needless to say I was disappointed. He said "aren't you still under home warranty." Indeed I was, and totally forgot about it. I wish he never said anything because dealing with the warranty company was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I called the warranty company (HSA a sub of American Home Shield) and paid 100 bucks for another technician to come out, hoping that they would replace the txv. This is estimate number 2. It said in my contract that they would, so I'm thinking it'll cost me 100 bucks to get it fixed. Bingo, right? WRONG. One of the warranty company's vendors comes out, spends all of 10 minutes looking at it, and says "you need a whole new system." I knew that was BS, but if they are going to replace my system at little or no expense to me then I'll take it! I get the call from the warranty company--apparently they will pay for it...BUT...the contractor wants to charge me over 3000 bucks in "modifications" to get the job done. That didn't make any sense to me and I wasn't going for that. After wrestling with the authorizations department at the warranty company I was able to get them to send out another tech from a different vendor for a second opinion. This is estimate number 3. This guy tells me I need evaporator coil with txv, consistent with estimate number 1. So OK cool...I can just get the coil with txv fixed at little or no cost to me, right? WRONG. Warranty company calls and says they will replace the part, but this job needs 1200 bucks for "modifications." I'm like WTF, dude. I was enraged. Not because of the price, but because this is an obvious scam. That's when I called Tran, Air. I wish I had called them first because after a month of dealing with the warranty company in this hot house it would have saved me a ton of stress. I contacted Cong on Thursday and told him what I needed. He said he would pick up the parts and come replace on Sunday. He called me on Friday and said he had a break in his sched for Saturday so he could come then. Sure enough, he came on Saturday, fixed my A/C in 90 minutes (everyone else said it would take 4 hours) and charged me almost half the price to replace evaporator coil with txv than was offered by Estimate 1. Tran Air really came though in the clutch and I am super grateful for their service. Do not hesitate to contact this company. I will refer them to anyone looking for HVAC repair and they are now my go to company for anything HVAC related.

When I pressed them on this, they said that the $185 would be deducted from the final bill *in the event that I chose them.* Of course, this would put me as a customer in an awkward position; they could give me a much higher estimate than others, and effectively strong-arm me into accepting because I've already spend $185. I've worked with many electricians and other contractors, and I have never seen this before. AirPlus may have a good reason for doing this, but it seems shady and precarious to me. For this reason alone, I decided not to work with them. If you're considering working with AirPlus, I strongly recommend getting other estimates, as well. Not only *might* you save money on the actual work, but you most assuredly *will* save money by not having to pay for an estimate upfront.

I heard that this family-owned business is now part of an out of state company. Last month after the fall furnace inspection was complete, the tech mentioned that my hot water heater was more than 20 years old and that it needed to be replaced. AirPlus sent over a plumber to work up an estimate but wasn't able to confirm the unit's age. Turns out the unit was @ 10 years old (called the manufacturer and provided the serial#) and is in good working order (I flushed it 2 years ago and no sediment). Watch out...I think there has been an attitude change over there. I am changing providers.

This serves as a follow up to my review dated on May 22, 2025 entitled "Nice is not "nice"…read moreanymore". I received a letter I received a follow up letter from Commonwealth of Virginia department of professional and occupational regulation. The letter states that no longer has a viable license at present and as a result, they can no longer proceed with my complaint. That is unfortunate. It is important to note that Nice Heating And Air was recently acquired by Michael Bonsby HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical located in Gaithersburg Maryland. During the acquisition process, I have been immediately deluged with repeated calls following up on providing future maintenance services, not acknowledging or responding to my complaint regarding service delivery. I was informed by three neighbors and friends who had cozy maintenance plans with Nice that they no longer provided various paid services for them, and thus their maintenance plans were ended. The referrals mentioned they took it in stride, by the lack of communication, no longer enroll in the new corporate maintenance programs of any HVAC company. Lesson learned.

We knew something could be wrong when their initial quote was over 11k and it magically came down 3k when we said we could do 8. But they charged an additional $1,200 for extras of wall repair and a UV filter. We got other bids around $8k that didn't include the extras so we signed with our preferred vendor, nice. They and all other companies started we needed to use a certain intake company's model, but the day before installation, nice told us it wasn't available and asked for our approval of the "only" other model that fit. Of course we said yes. A week later and we were dealing with a very loud system that didn't keep up with our next door neighbor's system. For a whole $2k less, she had received the replacement model for the one we had both been quoted only days apart from every local vendor. nice went a whole two weeks ignoring us after sending a technician who ruined the wall with terrible quality and left an actual 2" wide, 20" long hole in our living room. He explained he didn't think it was possible to match the paint so he just used white over our yellow. The other technician identified that the required electrical work hadn't been done. He was skeptical that the company wasn't able to source the necessary intake and stated point blank we should not have what was installed by nice. When I finally got in touch with an executive (of marketing, not operation), she told me it was a mystery to her why her company couldn't source what our neighbor received and which he technicians could not make perform. But she pushed back on the performance issues, explaining that by regulation, an AC does not have to maintain 71 or 72 if it's hotter outside. She continued maintaining this as the months have gone by. Today it was 98 outdoors and 78 indoors. In the meantime, more technicians have come from nice. One inspected our neighbor's as if they didn't believe she had a model that performed better than ours. He told us he would advise his own mother to "upgrade again" to that model since ours is both too loud and not performing as expected. But, he told us, the model we have is a good enough replacement so we would have to pay for this additional work. Who accompanied him? Someone from marketing. On another occasion, a technician agreed that our new system should at least perform better than our old one; our old one was actually physically broken at around 20 years old. But this new "upgrade" performs just as well in the heat. We received a letter from Dominion in May informing us that we use more energy than 66% of our neighbors. Nice maintains this is "energy savings" - you run the system more often so a higher price is to be expected. None of this was told to us prior to installation and of course our neighbor with an identical home as ours has none of these issues. We are at a standstill with nice so we're legally advised to take the next step of leaving reviews online, with the BBB, and the AG. I'm embarrassed it has come to this and frustrated by all the extra time and discomfort this has caused. Oh and yesterday nice told me to send them quotes from our own handyman for the drywall work. Did I mention the humidity?

They are exactly what was sent, with my email address, phone number, and home address redacted. The first issue with my new HVAC system required 4-5 service visits over multiple days before it was resolved. After the issue was resolved, I repeatedly asked about FH Furr's advertised $500 No Frustration Guarantee. I never received a callback or any type of explanation--they simply ignored it. The second incident was even more frustrating. After my service request had already been pending for over 24 hours, my appointment was pushed back another five days during a heat wave because a specific technician was apparently needed. I called back to ask if another technician could be sent sooner because waiting five more days was not acceptable with 95+ degree temperatures and the upstairs reaching around 80 degrees with two young kids. At the same time, I asked that a manager contact me to discuss my concerns with how the situation had been handled up to that point. I was repeatedly told someone would call me back (twice by phone and once through a technician), but nobody ever did. I followed up with two detailed emails to document the issue and give FH Furr the opportunity to handle it, including asking again about the $500 No Frustration Guarantee. Those have also gone unanswered. If you end up with an issue requiring anything beyond dispatching a technician, don't expect management to follow through. At this point, their $500 No Frustration Guarantee feels more like a sales promise they have no intention of honoring. Every technician who came to my home was professional and did everything they could to help. They are not the reason for this review. This review is entirely about FH Furr's management and customer service. I will only be contacting them for future HVAC repairs while the warranty on their installation remains active--and only because I have little choice.
