This serves as a follow up to my review dated on May 22, 2025 entitled "Nice is not "nice" anymore". I received a letter I received a follow up letter from Commonwealth of Virginia department of professional and occupational regulation. The letter states that no longer has a viable license at present and as a result, they can no longer proceed with my complaint. That is unfortunate. It is important to note that Nice Heating And Air was recently acquired by Michael Bonsby HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical located in Gaithersburg Maryland. During the acquisition process, I have been immediately deluged with repeated calls following up on providing future maintenance services, not acknowledging or responding to my complaint regarding service delivery. I was informed by three neighbors and friends who had cozy maintenance plans with Nice that they no longer provided various paid services for them, and thus their maintenance plans were ended. The referrals mentioned they took it in stride, by the lack of communication, no longer enroll in the new corporate maintenance programs of any HVAC company. Lesson learned. read more

We hired nice to replace our water heater and signed a payed service agreement with them. In March, we hired them again to replace our AC units - outdoors and intake. We knew something could be wrong when their initial quote was over 11k and it magically came down 3k when we said we could do 8. But they charged an additional $1,200 for extras of wall repair and a UV filter. We got other bids around $8k that didn't include the extras so we signed with our preferred vendor, nice. They and all other companies started we needed to use a certain intake company's model, but the day before installation, nice told us it wasn't available and asked for our approval of the "only" other model that fit. Of course we said yes. A week later and we were dealing with a very loud system that didn't keep up with our next door neighbor's system. For a whole $2k less, she had received the replacement model for the one we had both been quoted only days apart from every local vendor. nice went a whole two weeks ignoring us after sending a technician who ruined the wall with terrible quality and left an actual 2" wide, 20" long hole in our living room. He explained he didn't think it was possible to match the paint so he just used white over our yellow. The other technician identified that the required electrical work hadn't been done. He was skeptical that the company wasn't able to source the necessary intake and stated point blank we should not have what was installed by nice. When I finally got in touch with an executive (of marketing, not operation), she told me it was a mystery to her why her company couldn't source what our neighbor received and which he technicians could not make perform. But she pushed back on the performance issues, explaining that by regulation, an AC does not have to maintain 71 or 72 if it's hotter outside. She continued maintaining this as the months have gone by. Today it was 98 outdoors and 78 indoors. In the meantime, more technicians have come from nice. One inspected our neighbor's as if they didn't believe she had a model that performed better than ours. He told us he would advise his own mother to "upgrade again" to that model since ours is both too loud and not performing as expected. But, he told us, the model we have is a good enough replacement so we would have to pay for this additional work. Who accompanied him? Someone from marketing. On another occasion, a technician agreed that our new system should at least perform better than our old one; our old one was actually physically broken at around 20 years old. But this new "upgrade" performs just as well in the heat. We received a letter from Dominion in May informing us that we use more energy than 66% of our neighbors. Nice maintains this is "energy savings" - you run the system more often so a higher price is to be expected. None of this was told to us prior to installation and of course our neighbor with an identical home as ours has none of these issues. We are at a standstill with nice so we're legally advised to take the next step of leaving reviews online, with the BBB, and the AG. I'm embarrassed it has come to this and frustrated by all the extra time and discomfort this has caused. Oh and yesterday nice told me to send them quotes from our own handyman for the drywall work. These guys are very nice on install but they do NOT stand behind their work, and the "nice" part is gone after they take your money. Please see the photo of our caved in sons' ceiling that they refuse to fix citing a technicality in the install contract. We had 3 new split units installed 6 months ago and they will not stand by their work despite the 10 year warranty! Stay away everyone! Absolutely disappointing on all levels! Save the frustration and look elsewhere. We had to have our main HVAC system and our entire plumbing replaced in early 2023 and our second HVAC replaced in late 2023. All in, Nice received over $50k. You would think they would provide top notch service and we would be good to go for several years. NOPE!!! The HVAC installed in late 2023 has now had at least 5-6 service calls because either the system shut down all together (blamed on a sensor that still wasn't replaced) or more recently it has been 3 calls in 2 months because of no heat. On the second visit 3 weeks ago, we were told that they never connected the auxiliary heat pump so the system couldn't provide heat once the external temp got too cold. 15 months after install they finally find this rather obvious and glaring failure on their behalf?! What did they do on the prior service calls? We were assured the system was finally fixed and we should have no more problems, yet here we are again right during the coldest, snowiest spell in quite some time. Nice doesn't seem to understand the problem or put much of a priority on fixing it either. Nor do they seem to care about our growing frustrations. With each call, they initially schedule us a week or more out. Only after I call asking to speak with management, point out the history of errors by Nice, and threaten to terminate my service agreement and leave do they put us on the schedule for the next available technician. Here we go again trying to get service and finally get a new system actually working. Save yourself this headache and find a different provider, preferably one that stands by their work and provides competent service. read more

I have been wanting to update this post for quite sometime because after the quick response from Jacob all has been made whole for me! This is what you call first rate customer service! After my Yelp review Jacob (who I believe is the manager) reached out to me personally on an email and advised me of what their plan of action was for that technician that gave me subpar service. I won't go into details....but I don't believe that person will act in such an unprofessional way again to another customer! I was not only given a deal on the yearly plan, but I was sent a gift as well from the company. A real professional technician came out a few weeks later and checked over the work the other guy did. He was very detailed and even switched out my batteries on my panel (which I didn't even know how batteries...lol) and put a fresh filter in the furnace. And I can tell he enjoys his job because he was more then helpful and wanted to make sure I understood everything and answered any questions that I might of had at the time. I wish I could remember his name....but great job because that's is one of the reason I will recommend this company and keep with y'all on all HVAC issues I might have come up!! My recommendation is NOT to purchase their Cozy Club Maintenance Plan, because there is no maintenance. They came out today to look at my air conditioning system, and noted that the coils were dirty and offered to clean them for an additional charge. Shouldn't cleaning the coils be part of the maintenance plan? I relooked at the maintenance plan, and cleaning isn't part of it. In fact there is no maintenance in the plan. It is just a look at the system and a way for them to try to have you buy something from them. This time, they found a small leak in my air conditioner and it will cost us $4800 to repair. I think I will try another service. read more

We have had exceptional follow up from the team. We had a little hiccup with one of our three units installed. We called this morning and they were out right away to correct the error. All I can say is the integrity of the company and team truly has made our day! Thank you to Freddy who I'm pretty sure has been here every day this week to get us up and running and the wedding construction back on track today! I worked with Nate for estimates and install. He was super awesome with listening to our needs and making sure the project was going to be in the scope of what we needed, not anything super frilly. He was super understanding of our situation and was willing to work with us on scheduling and payment options. In terms of install, the techs Nick and Berto were super quick and considerate. They did run into some issues with not having the correct type due to our weirdly shaped mechanical space and a gas line issue. But the team did their best to troubleshoot and make things work. With the second winter weather right now, the heat is definitely feeling nicer and more even. Can't wait for hot weather to come around so we can take the new AC for a spin! We're just waiting on inspection, so fingers crossed we get a nice inspector! read more

I had been questioning what the techs were actually doing with my twice a year services when my husband found part of an old hornets nest in our furnace only days after they were at our house. But what determined my decision to never work with them again happened a few weeks ago -- Nice installed my HVAC system 3 years ago and my AC died two weeks ago. When I called the company I come to find out that they were sold to another company. The man I spoke to on the phone was rude, but they did send a tech that day...who charged me $85 to hook up a pressure gauge and tell me I had a coolant leak (I already figured that). He kept saying that the leak was probably bad workmanship during the install, then sent me three confusing estimates for the work (without knowing where the leak was) and when I called the company to get clarifications, they ghosted me for a week. After a week, I finally got someone to respond from an email address, but when I brought up questions about what my warranty is, once again the company went no-contact. I am editing my review due to Nice Heating & Air listening to my issues and making things right. They really care about their customer's satisfaction. When I expressed my concern over a pushy technician that made a few mistakes, they made it right by sending out a Master Technician with almost 20 years of experience to correctly diagnose my system. If you ever have an issue they will take care of it. Despite a negative experience with one technician, I gave them another chance and they did not disappoint! They came to inspect my systems and ended up causing it not to work. After 2 days they got it working again but when i called the other day for anther problem I was informed they refuse to service me anymore. I did nothing for them to make this call but it's all good. I was working from home today and all of sudden heard the noise of a shower coming from my utility closet. Opened the door and saw water pouring all over my AC unit. I shut the water off and called Nice Heating. Josh and Mike responded in less than an hour and quickly determined the issue was from my upstairs neighbor. Fixed my fireplace at a reasonable price. Great professionalism, on time and courteous.

The kings of the overpriced, unnecessary upsell. $439 for a $15 oil filter. $447 for a $10 injector nozzle. $764 for a $30 set of ignition electrodes. $281 for non specific. All of this on a 3.5 year old unit that they installed and we had a service contract on. Absolute thievery. I could purchase an entire new Beckett burner for 1/4 the cost these people are trying to charge me for light maintenance parts. Now the rub. All of this was needed because last spring when they performed our AC service somehow my furnace exhaust was pushed all the way inside the chimney so that it was against the back wall of the chimney and then it wouldn't vent. They then told us we needed a chimney liner and would be happy to install one and this was why the furnace wouldn't vent. They told us our chimney was no good and if we didn't do this we could die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Fear tactics are a great persuader. I called a chimney sweep and he said chimney was perfect and showed me pictures from inside. They looked different from the Nice pictures. I called them back out to check out the system after I discovered the flu problem was not a problem and this is when they went for the filters, nozzle and electrode upsell. They also tried to sell us a split system heat pump to replace our four year old furnace. I am so disappointed in Nice. They aren't very Nice at all. read more

Furthermore, once I complained, they cancelled my yearly contract. If they can't provide a service, don't advertise it and charge people for it and then wonder why they are upset when you don't provide the service. read more

I signed up for the twice annual service at two homes I have (one is rented out). I've had the service contract for several years and used them for a lot of repairs and maintenance, even replacing both heat and air systems at one of the homes. They're very NICE and courteous, but more and more getting the feeling the inspections are just ways to find things to charge me to fix. Six months after the new installation, they say theres a thousand dollars of repairs to do to it. The inspectors are more sales people and theyre pushing too far. read more

Buyer beware. They charge $537 to fill "up to" one pound of R-22 coolant. Local competitors charge between $190 to $230 for a pound of R-22 plus up to an $89 service fee. NICE charges almost double the highest competitors rates. I understand R-22 is getting harder to come by, but charging almost double the highest competitors rate is absurd. We trusted their good reviews and assumed their prices were fair... we were wrong. After realizing we'd been taken advantage of, we reached out to the company the next day asking for a refund and to cancel the maintenance package. Jacob, the "customer success manager", wasn't helpful and reluctantly refunded us for a separate maintenance package we purchased but never used. Even that was a chore. He acted like he was going out of his was when their invoice clearly says "You have 3 day right of rescission". A simple google search will pull up multiple competitors in the area (I can't list them here) but do yourself a favor and call around first. Don't get taken advantage of like we did. read more

10 pm on a Friday night during a heatwave and the AC fails. Great timing. We try at least 10 different companies and Nice responds immediately and says they can send someone out ASAP. A technician (Diego) arrives by 10:30 pm (less than an hour later) and immediately troubleshoots the problem. He took one look at the compressor and the fan and knew what was wrong. He fixed the problem in about 20 minutes and then checked out the rest of my system. AC is completely fixed, and is blowing sweet sweet cold air from all the vents. Diego was awesome. Such a tremendously nice guy and he explained to me exactly what was wrong and showed me what he was doing and why. And super bonus, he was so quiet while he worked he didn't even wake up a sleeping baby in the next room over. Nice will be the first (and only) call I'll make next time something is wrong. Been with Nice H&A for close to a year now. Technicians are top notch, explain everything in layman's terms, and are simply amazing. They tell you exactly what they're doing and advise on any recommendations. I've bought a hot water heater through them, and had my air ducts also cleaned by them. Just recently I had some parts fixed on my A/C, and air sanitation added to my inside unit. Can't recommend them enough!! read more

MY name is Praveen. I am very pleased with the service techs and the quality I received in replacing my AC and Furnace. Oh and my dryer vent cleaning. My wife and I didn't have a lot to spend on such things. We went back and forth a little on price and quality. JT explained the options and with his prior tech experience and our input relayed a difference between 100 btu and 75 btu. He assured us that the latter would be sufficient for our needs. We felt that he was very customer focused and savvy. We got a nice price and are comfortable. The techs, David Carerra and his brother worked diligently all day. They answered any of my questions. Ok! It seems we had some misunderstandings and Nice was super gracious with listening to my concerns and making it right. The air duct cleaning was wonderful and very professional. I believe it was Nova Ducts ( Highly recommend). The true shout out goes to Brooke at Nice. Her follow up is like no one else! However, weeks after my check-up appointment she called again to make sure all was well. Short version:  Scheduled appointment window: 0800-1200  Tech finally arrived 1230  Tech departed 1545  Spent as much time trying to upsell me to a new fireplace, and again as much time on the phone (both in my unit and down in his truck), as he did actually working on the fireplace. He was here for over 3 hours for literally about an hours worth of work performed.  Long Version:  Contacted NICE Home Services based off of their positive AngiesList reviews. I needed a cleaning on the gas fireplace as I've only recently moved in (June) and with it being November, it's almost fireplace season. I told them that it needed a thorough cleaning/servicing becasue only about half of the jets were producing fire.  Was given a time-window of 08:00-12:00 for the service call. When I booked the appointment I told the receptionist that I was taking half a day off of work for this cleaning service. At 10:00 the office called me and said he'd be to my home within the hour, and that they'd call me 30 minutes prior to his arrival. I had to call them back at 1115 asking if he was ever going to show up; as I'd only requested half a day off of work and was expected back in the office by 1300 (an hour past the given service call time). The office said that they booked my routine cleaning appointment *after* an unknown-problem diagnosis and repair at a different residence and that the tech ran into problems.  The technician pulled into my parking lot at 12:10...and then sat in his car vaping and messing around on his phone until he came to my door at 12:30. (I can see the parking lot from my unit.) Tech spent about 20-25 minutes familiarizing himself with the system, figuring out how it was wired and how it worked. Then went back down to his truck to get the tools/etc he needed for the job. He then sat in the drivers seat of his truck for another 10 minutes on the phone and vaping before coming back up to finally start the cleaning/servicing job.  The tech did bring a drop cloth that he used to put the logs and 2 or the 3 glass panes from teh fireplace on while he was cleaning them. All the glass was pretty sooty from poor combustion in the fireplace...but it was somewhat bothersome that he just put the 3rd pane of glass on my beige carpet. Luckily there was no mess on the carpet...but still...that's exactly what the drop cloth was for.  Once he had the logs done, the old fiberglass "embers" removed and replaced, and the logs back in, he stoked up the fire, and it still wasn't burning through half of the burners. He realized that the majority of the problem was that he'd put the logs back in wrong and was covering up most of the air-intakes with the logs. So...we had to wait half an hour or so just for the fireplace to cool before he could put it back together. This whole time he spent reminding me of how old the unit is, and telling me how much better a new fireplace would be, how they could offer good financing (after I told him I wasn't in a place to drop 10,000 right now), and just kept hammering on about getting an estimator out to see me etc. I understand suggesting it once, that's required...but he was annoyingly persistent about it.  Anyway, after the logs were repositioned the fireplace was burning much better, more efficiently, and most of the jets were working. We found that the HOA replaced the air-inlet cover outside with an inappropriate vent cover and that the fireplace was also being somewhat starved by that.  Over all...based on this experience...I would NOT recommend NICE Home Services. Though their reception staff was pleasant to deal with...they cost me an entire day out of the office for what should have been a one-hour job.  Their tech, though experienced and apparently knowledgeable, spent a lot of time on the phone, far too much time working on the upsell instead of the service that was being paid for, and I'm still going to have to take the glass back off of the fireplace (now that i know how it's attached) and give it (as well as the inside of the gas fireplace) a much more thorough cleaning. He didn't even touch the inner metal fascia nor (beige) brickwork for cleaning, it's all still covered with soot from the poor gas combustion caused by the improperly placed gas-logs....and the cobwebs from a season of idleness are still blowing around inside.  I will not be going back to them for any future work. And I'd recommend, for anyone who wants to try with them...be sure you block off an entire day for a one-hour job...they don't understand scheduling at all. And when the invoiced service was "Gas Fireplace Cleaning and Refreshing"...and I need to open it up to finish cleaning it....well, that speaks volumes. read more

My gas fireplace is lighting again, so I'm a happy camper. The pilot light was no longer lighting and may have needed replacing. Whatever the case was, I did not even know where to begin to try to repair it myself. As an out of state homeowner, I was at the mercy of the company and had to trust them. It was expensive, but the fireplace is operable again. I called NICE and was given a two-hour window for my appointment along with an email confirmation. We had to reschedule day of due to the previous appointment running over, but they were there the next day on time and with another call 30 minutes before arrival as requested. Since I'm out of state, we never actually met, but the technician was extremely professional and I received an electronic receipt with photographs and detailed description of what needed to be done and the completed work. He replaced a thermocouple, the embers, and did some cleaning to the fireplace. read more

First and foremost I want to thank Nice's amazing service. After getting an email from our nest app letting me know our HVAC system, for lack of better terms, was just wasting us money and losing heat while on I booked a check up with Nice. Kyle was the first one who came out to checkup and he was amazing, and very informative (I know nothing about this stuff.) I have now seen Kyle a few times for some check ups and fine tuning of the new system and every time he is super friendly and very professional. The best part of this experience I think was Meeting and working with Eman and JT who came over to consult with us before we made this big decision to invest in a new HVAC system. Right from the get go it was like sitting down and talking with two friends. It took a couple hours to go through the whole Process, which i appreciate, because it's a big investment. But, both of them were extremely knowledgeable and more importantly very honest and transparent about everything. They tailor made options for us with the ability to adjust certain things, if needed, to fit our situation. I have called Eman a few times with questions and he always answers and is always helpful. I also want to give a shout out to John and Joshua who did the install, they were really awesome. It was A long day for everyone, but they were very understanding that I have a toddler and let me know when they were going to make loud noises, or if I needed to cook because they had to turn the gas Off. Hats off to their whole team! Even speaking with their dispatchers, or the Nice people who coordinate appointments and such, they are all fantastic. read more

The staff and technicians have always been friendly and courteous. Our upstairs HVAC unit stopped working last night. The unit is less than a year old and under warranty. Their answering service said a technician would call, but when I called again this morning for a status, the person had no record of my call. The soonest they said they could come out was Monday, but we're leaving tomorrow. The unit is still new and shouldn't be dying on us. I'm disappointed that the technician wasn't notified early last night when I called and there was no sense of urgency for customers who spent a lot of money just several months ago for 2 completely new systems. read more

Less than 3 years ago we borrowed money to have a new furnace and A/C installed along with a warranty. The tech comes every 6 months for service in order to maintain the warranty. Each time they come they try and sell us something for $300 to $700, while we're still trying to pay off the original furnace! Two services ago they changed some setting on the furnace and now the heat won't come on unless it is 3 to 4 degrees lower than the thermostat is set. So if I have it set at 72 I get no heat until the house is 68 degrees. They have done something to the limit switch and they say that's how it's supposed to be. They say they didn't do anything to it, but we watched them take pieces off and put them in their bag. They said they just checked the gas pressure, but no tech had done that procedure before. Don't trust them! Follow and watch them if they are messing with your equipment that you are still trying to pay off. read more

The owner Craig quoted me a price of $59 to take a look at a buzzing sound from my basement AC unit. A very nice guy John came to the house the next day and asked me to sign a contract on his iPad. I read through it and asked why I need to sign this for an estimate? He said I am agreeing to pay $179 for a diagnostic. I said this is not what your boss Craig agreed to and that I am not very happy with this. Then he said okay and left the house. A few minutes later he rang the door bell again and said that he will do the diagnostic for $59. So I said okay. He took a look at it. After a few minutes, he said the buzzing sound is coming from the return. So for a less then 5 minutes of time I paid $59. I was glad that I did not pay $179. So be leery about this company, especially those who do not read the fine prints and ask questions. UPDATE: Based on the owner's response, I have changed the review from a one star to three stars. He is correct that it was a good deal, even though nothing was wrong with the unit. All it needed was a little manipulation of the return to make the buzzing sound go away. Most of the other companies offered $89 and above just to come out and additional charges for parts and labor. So Nice offered a nice deal. What was not nice was the lack of communication between the owner and the technician, which made me feel slighted at first. But the owner corrected the mistake and honored the original offer. So but for this miscommunication error I would have given a five star review. read more

Update: It has been several months since I had my mini split system installed. I have had multiple other companies over to try and have the lines covered and none will agree to work on the project given the condition it was left in. The only company that would potentially take the job would only do it if they removed everything and started over since in their words it was so poorly done. It will end up costing me 3 times what it should. NICE has refused to even give me a quote to fix the problem. I am left with very few options. Worst experience of my life. While the owner responded to my last post saying he would be there if I needed help, he also blocked me from contacting him and refused to help when asked on multiple occasions (once by me and once by the website that referred the company to me, which they have since been removed from). read more

He quickly diagnosed the problem and had the part to fix it. How much? Priceless because I have become accustomed to this modern convenience! Called Nice for some maintenance and issues with a humidifier we'd been having for months. They came same day, and Rolando was polite, patient, and very knowledgeable. He was able to quickly identify the mistakes the previous company made when they installed our humidifier. Update: After a disappointing first experience and bad review, the owner reach out to me directly apologizing for what happened. He went above and beyond to make things right, and even said that he is reassessing some company procedures to make sure other customers never have the same issue. I really appreciate the initiative and I am optimistic that my next experience will be a positive one. Original: Very poor organization and communication. I scheduled a dryer vent cleaning and had an appointment confirmed for a Wednesday in the afternoon. After several "we are delayed" texts, someone finally showed up at 7pm. I would have been willing to get over that, but the person who came didn't have a long enough ladder to perform the job. Even though I stated in my initial request that it was a two story house. So, he calls his manager who promises me a call in the morning to get it rescheduled for Friday. I don't get a call. I call them and ask about the Friday appointment and get told that yes, they will fit me in Friday and they will call in the morning with a specific time. I don't get a call, again. I call them at noon on Friday and the receptionist has no idea what I'm talking about and doesn't have me on the schedule. She says she will contact the owner and get right back with me. Anyone want to guess what happens next? I don't get a call. After that I'm done. I'm not going to chase around a company to give them my business. read more

I had a great experience with Nice. My grandfather's AC died and he has a heart condition. They had someone out ASAP and my tech, John Sumlin, was fantastic. Extremely thorough and explained all options to me honestly. Told me what I could get away with as a minimum and what might not be worth it, given the age of the system. They sent a team out 2 days later (I couldn't do the following day, but they could have!) and the tech team was led by Dionte Williams. They were there ALL DAY to ensure that everything was working right. I got a new system installed, heating coil (etc.) cleaned, and then one extra unexpected thing. A new drainage system was needed for the AC and we discovered this at the end of the visit. They quickly went to a store, bought the parts needed, and came back and installed it the same day, not leaving until everything had been running long enough for them to fully test it. Their prices are competitive and their service is great. Along with my receipt, I received detailed before and after pictures. Their customer service is quickly responsive. They also send the name and picture of the tech who is coming for security reasons. Also, I used yelp to request service from multiple companies. Nice was the first to respond and made everything very easy. I could not be more happy with their service and will be using them for my own home. read more
