Honey Pot Pizza - 12" Wood-Fired
Maddy M.

Had a weeknight dinner at Toss & Fire at Township 5. We tried the honey pot pizza and the sweet & hot chicken tender special. The pizza was delicious and fresh as usual, and the chicken tenders were good value for the price (5 large tenders for $8.99). They were served with a generous helping of maple syrup, and I added blue cheese on the side. This is a good spot for a high-quality, casual meal.

I've always enjoyed the crispiness and char from a wood fired pizza and Toss & Fire does it so well. They have been doing pop-ups of the New Haven style "Apizza"! After hearing wonderful feedback I pre-ordered a Cheese pizza ( New Haven style of course) These pop ups, right now, are held on Mondays when they are normally closed. They currently serve approximately 6-7 varieties all New Haven style along with soda , wine and beer. They had a full crew all working hard to keep ahead of the orders as well as serve walk in customers. My pizza was ready on time and it was hot. Of course I sat down with my boxed pizza to eat one slice.... which turned into 3 slices!! Be careful because the pizza is thin with a beautiful, crispy crust so it's easy to just keep eating. The renovation inside is very nice and there is lots of comfortable seating. The employees are so nice, as always and I saw Nick slinging pies with the crew.

Every time I eat here I'm reminded of why it's the best pie in Syracuse. So so so good. The Detroit style honey-pot is to die for. Oh and my partner and I both agree the fried pickles are the best around as well. Keep it up.

Detroit pie grease soaked through the box

Pizza Maven here making a trip to one of the hottest, trendiest pizza joints in CNY, Toss n Fire. After seeing the lines at the State Fair and reading good things, I had to give this 3-store local franchise a try. I ordered a 16" plain cheese pie and a large Detroit style pie with charred pepperoni. Both were appealing to the eyes and smelled pizzeria perfect. The crust on the 16" was perfect; nice chew, bake, and finish. Truly the strength and centerpiece of the pie. The sauce was good, but a little acidic. The cheese was too much and too gooey. It became soupy on top of the slice. No stretch or snap either. Slices were way better reheated because it rendered the cheese a bit firmer. Nevertheless, TnF worked mainly because they have a killer crust. On to the major disappointment; the Detroit pie. I got it with charred pepperoni so it wouldn't be as greasy as regular pepperoni. The pie looked fantastic in the box & smelled even better. But, the second I lifted a slab/ slice out of the box, I saw there was going to be a problem; an overflow of oil on the pie and all over the box reminiscent of Pizza Hut's greasy finishes. On their menu, TnF describes this pie as "their take on a Detroit" pie. They might as well have called it a Kalamazoo pie; nothing but the look was Detroit, where the pies are baked in actual auto oil pans and topped with brick cheese. TnF Detroit has so much of the wrong cheese on a too thick of an airy focaccia-like crust. The oil that came off of this pie bordered on disgusting; it soaked right through a heavy duty pizza box. I had to wash my hands with Dawn afterwards. There was a nice char along the edges only. The bottom was soggy and greasy (see pictures.) the crust too thick and soft. But, the greasy finish makes the Detroit among the worst pizzas I have recently eaten, and that includes some pretty bad ones in Chicago.

Toss n Fire is always a treat when we don't want regular pizza. We love trying their speciality wood fire pizza. We dined in their Camillus location for lunch after attending a dance recital. They did remodeling recently and I like booths they put in better than the layout before. What we got for lunch was their garlic knots, my husband loved them. You get three in an order but they were big that three was definitely more than enough for appetizer. My husband ordered the buffalo chicken pizza which he really enjoyed. Our family members ordered the vegan cheeky monkey and Tessa's veggie with vegan cheese. They loved it and love they that offer vegan cheese option. I ordered the Detroit Hot Pot pizza. It's one of my favorite, perfect amount of heat, sweet and freshness from the basil. I also like ordering cheeky monkey pizza. I ordered regular cheese pizza and French fries for our little ones. You can't go wrong there, the fries had salt and lots of black pepper but my kids didn't mind. It was nice to dine in, we usually do takeout and both experiences have been great.

Always receive great service and great food. My one complaint about the wings is that sometimes the sauce doesn't stick to them. With the new dining room renovation the inside is cozy and clean. I have tried many different items off the menu and always been pleased. It can be on the pricier side for pizza but these are wood fired pizzas with quality ingredients. They also make some of my favorite fried mozzarella around.

What a wonderful place! As we entered, we were warmly greeted and presented with menus. There is a great selection of pizzas, calzones and a number of appetizers and drinks. We decided to eat in and our order was quickly and cheerfully delivered to our table. Whomever trains the staff here does a great job! The food is fab. The Caesar salad was large enough to share for three people, or two if you eat with my husband. We also had a huge calzone, a small wood fired pizza (outrageously good), fried pickles and an order of boneless chicken wings. Everything was served piping hot and was top notch. The tables are kept clean and there is plenty of seating. This is a great place to hit after or before a movie.

Cheeky Monkey Wings, extra crispy with extra sauce - $16.00

I'm not the biggest fan of thin crust wood fired pizza. In my experience, it's usually a glorified flour tortilla you can eat in one sitting at the same price of a regular pizza. I'm all about sauce wherever it applies, so I don't really gravitate toward the dry, crispy pizzas even when they're clearly made with love. I never really gave this place much thought beyond that. I know they've got a huge presence in the city, and they're big at the state fair and in the food truck scene. It was only when we saw the Mexican Street Corn pizza we decided to give it a try anyway. This was when we learned they don't just do the lightweight stuff, but you can get whatever pizza you want on a crust that wouldn't shatter if you dropped it. This was crazy, because they've got a huge list of great looking specialty pizzas, and it felt like this door just opened for us. So last week we did the Mexican Street Corn pizza and some Cheeky Monkey wings. I don't get the reference, but I see the name mentioned a lot so figured it was worth trying. I also realized I've never had Mexican Street Corn either, so I have no reference or understanding with which to compare the pizza. As expected though, the pizza was loaded up with corn, jalapenos and delicious white sauce and we absolutely loved it. It actually had a reasonable spicy kick to it and it all worked out better than I'd ever imagined it could. We did this on a New York style crust. The dough was still light, and a bit more dry and stretchy than we'd go for on our own. We were just relieved to have a NY Style vehicle for these pizzas, so we're still in. The wings themselves were great. We ordered extra crispy, and they actually made them crispy! Good size, cooked amazing and had a great taste. Even with extra sauce, they definitely felt lacking. The Cheeky Monkey sauce is thin and oily, so it mostly runs off the wings and pools. It did have a good, tangy and "politely spicy" taste to it. I'll bet it'd be good on a salad. Today was our next pizza day, and we knew we were craving specialty so it had to be here. This time we went with Detroit style crust. We've never been crazy about Detroit style, but we've been coming around to it lately. Today after some stressful deliberation, we decided on the Joey Fried Pizza. Buffalo Base with a ranch drizzle and three kinds of meat, seemed like a no-brainer after we labored over the decision for 2 hours. Their Detroit style crust is excellent. The perfect delivery for these amazing and unique specialty pizzas. Joey really came through, and it was exactly as good as it sounded. Just a pile of good meat, and we were surprised once again with a pleasant spicy kick. This time we got buff-a-que, because we figured it'd be thicker and should stick to the wings. Still got extra sauce and of course extra crispy. These guys have some of the best wings I think. The sauce was as good as it sounded and it stuck well to the meat. Having a large dippy cup with extra sauce was worth the extra dollar. This time they came in a metal tray, so we can heat them up in the oven. The prices are good, the service seems fine. I love the black dust you get on your hands eating a wood fired pizza. My only complaint is the very distinct smell. The first time I walked in I thought someone had just thrown up in there. Turns out that's all the time, and nobody else seems to mind it. That tells me there's a valid context for the smell I just don't understand. Still though, I know I couldn't eat in there because of that. That's why god invented takeout. We're definitely coming back whenever we need a good specialty pizza. There's so many amazing choices that seem like a sure thing. We might even swallow our pride and try the thin crust just to see if we can understand all the hype.

I came back and this time I got Wings. I am from the south and I'm used to a different kind of Wing. I asked for mild wings. The wings that I got didn't have anything on them. They looked very plain no smell of hot sauce anything so I took the wings back the young man that was cooking. I guess he was irritated about the wings and he dumped an entire bottle of sauce on my wings. There was so much sauce that young lady couldn't put the container that they were in, in the bag, the young man had the nerve to tell her I wouldn't move that too much if I was you! I had to throw all of that wings away. It was ridiculous and I'm gonna add pictures. It was such an enormous waste of my money and a waste of my time away from my mother who I was visiting here in the hospital. The pizza was great. My mom and stepdad at least enjoyed the wings that I got them. This is all of the sauce that he dumped on top of my wings. I took them out of the sauce because I was going to try to salvage them and just make my own sauce, but there was no salvaging.

There were just 2 other diners, and staff were mostly standing around talking to each other. My partner asked for our toddler's slice to be warmed up "10-20 seconds, it's for a baby" when we received the slice *a few minutes later* it was so hot I burned the roof of my mouth when testing it for her. FIVE MINUTES LATER we received our personal slices which had been left in the oven so long the crust was burnt to a crisp. When I said "excuse me, this is burnt" to the counter person, they looked at me with a blank stare and then proceeded to walk away. As a former server, maitre d, and FOH manager, I know this is not how you appropriately handle a situation in which a guest is upset before even touching their food. There was no offer to replace the (literally black crusted) pizza, no "sorry" no ... anything. Instead, a blank stare as they went back behind the counter to continue their conversation with the pizza cook. The pizza is still great, but if this is what Franco's thinks qualifies as half-way decent customer service - they have some issues that need correcting. I don't know if we'll be back; maybe we will just continue taking to go instead of trying to enjoy a meal on-site.

I had 3 slices, a pepperoni, a chicken bacon ranch and a Buffalo chicken slice. The pepperoni was decent. The chicken bacon ranch was definitely pretty tasty but I was blown away by the Buffalo chicken slice, it definitely out did the others. Would rate the slices a 4.5/5. I've never been a huge buffalo chicken slice fan because I hate loads of grease dripping off my slice and the flavor has never been there for me, but whatever these guys are doing with this works, so this is something I would order again. I also ordered a large Turkey sub with American, LTO and Mayo... definitely sub par for sure (pun intended). All lettuce and not a lot of meat...was very surprised as it was roughly $15 and probably 2 slices of Turkey all the way through, so probably a total of 6-7 smaller sized slices for a large sub. Would rate the sub a 2.5/5. I will definitely be back for the pizza! Hoping they see this and throw a little more meat on their subs next time especially for the price. All in all Chittenango Pizza loads their slices up with toppings which I appreciate. Who wants a skimpy slice of pie? Service was great, ambiance was comfortable, I appreciate that it's the old Pizza Hut, kind of nostalgic and decorated with wizard of oz knick knacks etc which is typical for the town :-)
