I've been coming here for years with my mom, the carnitas are a saturday only type deal and they run out quickly. Carnitas are pretty good, that's mainly what we go for, it's very convenient to buy premade, makes quick tacos! The tortillas are fresh, hot, tasty. Salsas are pretty good too! They definitely sell like everything here, from tortillas to tostadas to salsa to frijoles, all for people's convenience. Customer service was very kind! They've renovated a ton since the last time I was there and it looks very good now, spacious and lots of variety. read more

Wonderful tortillas! Soft, tender, flavorful yet sturdy enough to work with. At $3 for a kilo (about 3 dozen) these are a steal. I double wrap stacks of 6 in freezer paper and freezer bags and pull out a stack whenever we want tacos or enchiladas -- not as good as the day you pick them up warm from the shop but still way better than even the freshest grocery store tortillas. If you try them you will never want the mass produced ones again! read more

Called to see if I needed to pre-order tortillas for pickup. They answered in spanish, which was expected, and I asked. They apparently couldn't speak english so I tried in my very crappy spanish to ask but they just became rude and yelled at me saying "I can't understand you!" and hung up. I won't ever be buying anything from this store. read more

The Tortillas at El Metate are absolutely delicious!! These tortillas are the best in the Springfield/Eugene area. The salsas and chips are great for snacking they have a great flavor! They also offer organic chicken eggs! Hands down the best tortillas! read more

What a nice surprise it was to find this place on my trip to the store for tortillas. It was so much better getting warm tortillas hot off the presses, with local Don Froylan (Albany) crema and cheese, and house-made salsas. ..I definitely did not make it home before enjoying a warm tortilla or two slathered with crema. When you can get a premium product from a great family business, why buy from anyone else? I get a kilo of corn tortillas ($2.50 for about 3 dozen), and a pint of salsa verde ($4) every week. The salsa is perfectly spicy, and it's turned me into a snob. Since I moved here, I haven't bought any other. Sometimes they have other salsas that are equally awesome. The tortillas are warm when you get them, and I find myself gobbling a few dipped in salsa right out of the package. If you come later in the day, you can get flour tortillas too. FYI - The hours are posted wrong here. They're open Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 am to 6:30 pm. Cash only. read more

Wow! This little gem is tucked away in an unassuming location. If you've never had a corn tortilla from freshly ground corn then you are missing out. I've been on the look-out for a place that makes home-made tortilla shells we can take home and cook with ... stumbled across a mention of this place and was very happy to have done so. As near as I can tell, it's the only place in the region that still does this. And they do it realllly well. The gal behind the counter took a sample straight off the griddle and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Even several days later, my refrigerated ones were still tasting great with a quick zap in the microwave. I've stashed several in the freezer (after first letting them cool and separating them into batches). I have high hopes for them as well. Oh, and cheap. $3 for about two dozen tortillas. If you count my time (and cooking frustration), I can't make 'em myself for that. read more

We had their tortillas when we ordered tacos at Planktown. They were so amazing I asked our server if they made them there, she informed me that they get them from Tortilleria El Metate. After having thier tortillas store bought are just not working for me. We will be regular Tortilleria tortilla buyers from now on. read more

This shop makes fantastic homemade corn tortillas. A friend of ours introduced us to this place. We have moved from the area but anytime we have a reason to go to the Eugene / Springfield area we make it a point and plan our menu around getting their corn tortillas. read more

This place is amazing! The tortillas are hot and wrapped in paper when you buy them by the kilo. To my knowledge, since Plaza Latina quit making tortillas this is the ONLY place in the Eugene/Springfield area that you can buy fresh tortillas. They are so good when they are still warm that it is hard to wait to make tacos as you just want to start eating them plain. They also make wheat tortillas, but i have never tried them. The house made salsas are delicious. Otherwise they typically have a smattering of corn husks, chiles, hot sauce etc., but the focus is firmly on making excellent corn tortillas. This isn't a restaurant or grocery store. They make fresh tortillas, fresh chips and sometime salsas. You also can order pre made dough for tamales. They are hard to understand but once they get to know you they are very friendly!! The tortillas are amazing and I'll never buy them at a grocery store again!!
