Ate here for Sunday brunch. This is a great place, and I will be returning. Is located at a site that has had different restaurants, but this is a particularly good new place to eat. There's validated parking in a nearby garage. The service was fast and friendly. Is a great place to have a drink and delicious food. The desserts are spectacular, and there is a variety of appetizers to start off with. The chicken tacos are delicious, and I enjoyed the birria beef plate. The owners have a number of other great restaurants in Reno, and this is a fine addition to their repertoire.

Look at that halibut description... Yum!

Pro's: Eclectic menu, great choices, expand your palate! Con's: None but do expect it could be very loud when busy. Go back?: Yes! More... To be fully honest, the menu prices here have scared me away for some time, but not on this evening when my date and I shared three delicious appetizers and were plenty full...and I'll go back for more! The menu was unusual, eclectic and the items we ordered were fresh and delicious. This is not your every-day Mexican restaurant. The menu items are not what you usually see - this is Mexican gourmet. We ordered scallop ceviche, the blue corn bread and a skirt steak tostada...this was plenty of food for us. :) The atmosphere is beautiful, wood rafters, pendant lights, fireplace scenes and a giant red Toro Bravo to greet you when you enter. This restaurant could be visited many times as there are so many items on the menu to try on the appetizer and even side-dish menu. And so nice to see Simon around town again! :)

Toro Bravo is my new top recommendation for anyone visiting Reno or in Reno looking for a delicious date night dinner! I don't know why it took me so long to come here but I already can't wait to go back. My husband and I went here for a date night during happy hour and the food, service and location were all amazing! We tried a margarita and one with mezcal too. So yummy! We ate the ceviche mixto, braised short rib and creamy cilantro rice. It was so much food we were happy to take some for leftovers at home. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. We'll be back to try some of their other dishes soon!

Phenomenal! Everything about this place from service to food is excellent. We were running late for our reservation and called and they were so nice and accommodating with changing our reservation time so easily. I ordered the guava lemon drop cocktail and it was absolutely delicious, very dangerous, lol! For appetizers we ordered the blue cornbread and the papas bravas. The cornbread was good, buttery with honey, though the blue bread is a slightly acquired taste, but no complaints. The papas bravas was sensational! Aggressively seasoned and delicious, it did not last long. I ordered the prime Skirt Steak with flour tortillas, and it was honestly one of the best steaks I've had in Reno surprisingly enough. Simply cooked, perfectly season, excellent taste combined with the shallots and carrots. The staff went above and beyond to make sure my wife had a fantastic birthday. Love that they provide a birthday shot rather than the standard desert. Will definitely be back again!

We came here for an early Mother's Day dinner with the four of us. We had reservations, HIGHLY recommend getting reservations. We were seated right away. This is such a cozy and unique restaurant. Everything we ordered was something I had never tried before. We started with cocktails. They have a big variety of margaritas, beer, and other signature drinks. For our appetizers we ordered the blue corn bread which is served on a mini cast iron skillet. This corn bread is sweet, but also has some spicy chili flavor. We shared the fish ceviche with tuna. It was so fresh and the flavors were out of this world. Tangy, sour, a little spicy. For my main I went with the special for that weekend which was the Sea Bass. So flaky and buttery. It was served on top of a kind of fried rice. Overall great experience here. I would prepare for a 2hr experience so that you can enjoy all meals equally!

What a wonderful restaurant on the river walk. We chose to sit outside and enjoy a picture perfect day. The staff was very attentive and kind. The food was AMAZING, portions large and the drinks spot on. We shared the roasted carrots (now I'm dreaming of whipped ricotta and hot honey drizzled carrots) paella with plenty of seafood, and Brussel sprouts. Everything was delish! What a lovely spot!

Still my favorite restaurant in Reno! I've been here over 5 times since I discovered it!

I really enjoyed my experience at Toro Bravo in Reno. The restaurant is right by the river, and we sat outside, which made the whole experience very relaxing. There was a nice breeze, the view was beautiful, and the atmosphere was peaceful and comfortable. The food was also unique because it had a mix of Mexican and Spanish flavors. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and mixed berries, and they had the perfect balance of sweetness without being too much. We also tried the fondue with chorizo. It was prepared a little differently than what I'm used to, so it didn't have that strong cheesy taste I was expecting, but it was still interesting to try. My friend had the Colorado steak and enjoyed it as well. The customer service was great, and the restaurant was very clean and organized. The tables and outdoor area were well maintained, and everything felt comfortable and welcoming. Overall, I had a really good experience and would definitely recommend Toro Bravo, especially if you want good food with a relaxing outdoor atmosphere by the river.

Toro Bravo margarita for Happy Hour

I came here for happy hour (3-6 pm) and didn't want to leave! It's one of my new favorite spots. If you like Mexcal and La Condesa, you have to check this one out. All the margaritas on happy hour were great. I also tried the Toro Bravo (watermelon), Chapo Lo-era (prickly pear) and El Malo (Mezcal). We got the papas bravas to start since all employees recommended it them. They were not spicy but very delicious. The sauce on them was a smoked jalapeño aioli. The guacamole was good too and very shareable sizes. We then shared the quesabirrias, vegan ceviche and the prime asada tostaditas. Hands down the best choice was the quesabirria. We even ordered another round. Everything is about $9 on the menu which is well worth the quality and portions. The restaurant is very cute with views of the river. Great vibes! The staff was very attentive and nice. I plan on coming back for more happy hours.

I was really pleased with my visit to Toro Bravo. We tried a variety of items on the menu: guacamole, chorizo requesón, pork shank, tostada de arrachera, chicken empanadas, cilantro rice, and short ribs. Everything met or exceeded my expectations. The standout dishes for me were the chorizo requesón, cilantro rice, short ribs, and pork shank--each was flavorful and well-executed. The guacamole and tostada were solid and had the classic flavors you'd expect. My toddler especially loved the cilantro rice, tortilla chips, chorizo requesón, and short ribs, which was a big win. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very accommodating. We originally asked to sit outside, but when it got windy, they quickly moved us inside without any hassle. The restaurant also offers open outdoor seating, which is a nice option if you want to enjoy the view on a calmer day.

We have been wanting to come here! The Ceviche MIXTO was so fresh and tasty, octopus, fish, shrimp., sooo good and the empanadas de mariscos was amazing as well, the drinks... El Fashionista with Mexican ancestral corn whiskey and with Frey Ranch Distillery bourbon.. Yummm. Everything fresh and staff was very attentive.

Food was good not great. Service was slow. Restaurant is beautiful and inviting. Cocktails were weak and sugary. Wanted to like this place but I probably won't return.

Very pretty place with great staff! We had shrimp ceviche and the portion was pretty abundant. We also each had a michelada. They were tasty with a very minimal taste of spice. The guacamole was very tasty and they serves everything with tostadas. I really enjoyed the place. There are plenty of places to park and the view of the river was beautiful!

I think it's called Tortilla Espanol but I can't find the lunch menu online.

Hi! Yeah, they're working on their website and the only way to make a reservation right now is to keep calling them. When I made mine, I called around 3pm and someone answered. It's definitely worth it and I hope you enjoy your dinner!

We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Saturday. The joint was nearly empty aside from a couple at the bar. Plenty of seating for our large group in the large, comfy couches. A fun and unique way to sort cocktails. They also have a selection of beer on draft and wine. The drinks can also be made into mocktails- a win for our group since we had a few non-drinkers. The 1859 mocktail was great. Perfectly sweet with a small hit of miso flavor from the miso honey. Probably even better and more balanced with the whiskey! Others in my group enjoyed working their way through the many light, dark, and sour beers on tap. 1864 offers a classic, relaxed atmosphere and a great place to get a cocktail. The prices are reasonable, too. Definitely worth the visit.
