Sausage Tornado with Hawaiian Portuguese Sausage
Dennis T.

At the 2013 Las Vegas Foodie Fest, the Tornado Potato truck saved me from having to wait in any more hour-long lines. For, I was able to combine meat protein and potato in a single order by selecting a Sausage Tornado with Hawaiian Portuguese Sausage. Oily swirls of fresh potato curled around a slightly sweet, slightly spicy and flavorful sausage impaled on a stick, and filled me up nicely after quickly downing a Lobster Roll from the The Maine Lobster Lady truck. This tall edible tornado was even better after dipping the potato in ketchup and the sausage in mustard provided by the Tornado Potato truck. I found it to be a great improvement over a Hot Dog on a Stick. And, Diane's version of a Tornado Potato, dipped in cinnamon and sugar, was a tasty cyclonic dessert. Greasy fun!

Just chillin' with my Tornado Potato!

Came here during the Food Truck Festival in Rosemead today, just because it looked so cool. Anyways, I ordered the cheddar cheese regular ($5), and it tasted like mojos from Shakeys-- but thinner. It was pretty cool just walking around in it, just cause it's like one of those cool accessories that catches attention-- you know, like a really nice handbag or something Gaga would wear. Lol, just kidding. Overall, the pricing wasn't too bad. I'm not a huge potato fan (besides french fries), so it was decent for me. However, the owner is really friendly and will even make convos with you. I believe there are even stamp cards for this truck-- which is great for the potato addicts!

When I first heard heard "Tornado Potato" I thought someone was trying to make curly fries sound unique and special. This food is definitely unique and special in that it's a fried potato spiraled around a stick. I have to admit, it's a little pricey for the amount of food given, but it's pretty delicious! Think of it as a freshly fried potato that has the soft french fry middle with chip-like crispiness around the edges. 1) Louisiana Cajun Screwdriver - hot link on a stick with a fried potato spiraling around the dog topped with chili and nacho cheese! It was surprisingly light. I didn't get the greasy, guilty feeling I get from eating chili and nacho cheese. The picture is misleading, it's actually pretty small. Even though it was good, I don't see myself buying another one because it's not worth $8. 2) Roasted Jalapeno Tornado - I'd much rather order this than any of the screwdrivers. The Jalapeno powder was amazing! It had a nice spicy kick and I was even tempted steal my friend's order. Pro: Fried perfectly, good flavored powders, not too greasy chili and cheese Con: Very pricey for the amount they give you especially the Screwdrivers.

I give them props for creativity, their catchy name, and for presentation. My friend ordered the screwdriver with the beef polish sausage. Five minutes later, the guy gives us this potato wrapped dog drenched with gourmet chili & nacho cheese. It looked so good, but I couldn't ignore all that grease on the bottom...... I'm glad we shared this one because there's no way that one person can finish this thing. This was shared among four people, and we couldn't even finish it! Overall, I thought it was pretty good and extremely filling. The beef polish dog is amazing, and I loved the crispy potato surrounding it. If you're a fan of fried food and potatoes, this place is for you!

Tornado Potato's Tornado with Sour Cream and Onion flavoring.

This place is so cool! I first heard about Tornado Potato from my friend... and the next day, I found this truck in the OC! Who would've known?! Unfortunately for Tornado Potato (but fortunately for me, hehe), NO one was in line... so I leaped at the opportunity of getting one without too much of a wait. I decided, with the help of the cashier, to get a regular Tornado Potato with Sour Cream and Onion flavoring. Waiting for my potato-on-a-stick, I saw another man claim his Screw Driver tornado.. which was ginormous! So for those of you brave enough to take on the challenge, I would probably recommend what that man got, a melange of different, delicious meats. Anyway, I heard my name and skipped over to the pick-up window. The menu needs to add that its pictures are not taken to scale... because the tornado is tall and giant yet pretty and delicate... swirl after swirl of spectacular spud! I took a bite... I didn't taste too much of the added flavor, but the potato itself wasn't oily and was crispy and starchy and... mmmmmm :)! Try not to poke yourself when eating... you will have to poise your head awkwadly sometimes just to get a great bite. Cool truck, great snacking! Keep in mind that you can only use a credit card if you spend at least $5, and people you're with will want to take bites out of YOUR tornado... sldkfjs

I am honestly not completely sold on this truck but I can't give them a "Meh I've experienced better" two star rating bc I have never had anything like it before! After Isabel F. and I got our Lardon with Team Bacon I showed her around the street I make my rounds on (Sawtelle). I have seen Tornado Potato countless times but never had any desire to stop. Well they caught Isabel's eye so we watched the funny video and she was intrigued enough to try them so we did. The guy working the window was really friendly and helpful when we asked what was their most popular flavor choice. He said Sour Cream and Onion so we went with the popular choice. Our potato was up in about 3 minutes with a kind warning to be careful bc it was hot. With this interesting item in hand all we could think about it while we were letting it cool off was, Do you think it's like a French fry? How do you eat it? I'm still not sure what type of potato you can compare it to but I'll admit it was a pretty tasty snack. It's not like a french fry as the potato inside was not that soft. It kind of reminds me maybe of a deep fried roasted potato. I'm not sure actually. It was crisp on the outside and the potato itself still had some bite to it but it was light enough to peel apart. I'm still intrigued and am not ready to chalk it up to a catchy gimmick and will probably pay Tornado Potato another visit. Next up will be the Zucchini Tornado and they also have a Sweet Potato Tornado and a Potato Tornado wrapped around a Sausage.

Bill C.

Simple yet elegant, the Tornado is an amazing amalgam of culinary arts and geometry. Some genius figured out that the best part of a fried potato is the crispy part and designed the Tornado, a potato that is practically all surface area. I chose the sausage tornado. It's a Polish Sausage on a stick surrounded by the potato. It's simple and delicious. Do they wrap the potato around the sausage? Do they insert the Sausage insert the potato? is this the only DNA shaped food available on Food Trucks? I really don't think I want to know. I like being amazed by it. The novelty of holding on to a pimped-out potato is probably the biggest draw for this truck. It really does look cool, even if you're not quite sure how to eat it properly. Be ready to explain to curious onlookers what exactly it is that you're holding. I made the mistake of getting the plain tornado potato. For the price, it's really not worth it, and really we're looking at a two-star experience here for me. But giving them the benefit of the doubt that the seasoned potatoes are way better, I'm bumping it up to three stars.

Lica N.

It's funny walking around with one of these and seeing other peoples faces with the expression of "whoa what is that???" The cost of one of these are pretty high $5 - $8 for freaking potato. Seriously you can buy a sack at the grocery store for a lot less. Despite the cost I wanted to try this novelty potato on a stick thing. I saw the white truffled oil one http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Tp3lLTnQ6czepzJbRY_RtQ?select=nycWzNx8B5ie9xClez4cfg so I got that and the bro got the parmesan garlic. I was soooo disappointed in that there was barely any hit of truffle oil on it. I couldn't even smell it which you often can. The garlic parmesan one was actually not bad as it actually had flavor. In the end I forfeited my potato to a friends 2 year old daughter who loved it. At least it didnt go to waste. The flavor tornado was missing in my mouth sadness!

Have you ever dreamed about munching on a spiral shaped potato on a stick? Well that dream can be a reality now. I stumbled across these guys one night. Colorful truck with a TV screen on the side displaying a Korean program showing off this twisted potato invention. On the show, there was this guy putting a potato into this machine and spinning a lever and this potato comes out as a tornado! All the Korean guys with cool hair styles had "O" faces because they've never seen anything so cool! http://media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/-N6Ugv-rLvyu-hOjFubc5w/l You can order in a variety of flavors. I tried the sweet potato cinnamon sugar which was their special. It's neither crispy nor soggy. The outside is coated like a churro. It's very tasty but I don't think it's worth $4. Pictured here: http://media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/WPQj_G8qAd9PQvKn_74G0Q/l The concept of chewing on a tornado potato is great and it's yummy but I don't know if this idea will catch on. I'd like to try them again though, gotta make use of that stamp card right?

Sausage tornado with beef polish sausage.
Cindy C.

After seeing an impressive photo of their tornado potato, I followed this truck to the OC Great Park. For $8, I got the sausage potato with the beef polish sausage. The sausage potato visually isn't as impressive as the original potato because it is not as tall. It's about 1/2 the height so that the sausage is the same length as the potato. Photo: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tornado-potato-anaheim?select=dM3quaCotVPktqkpEQcaaQ#QD5mxKSr2ybbYpu5_Dn4sw The potato also comes out very oily because they serve it to you right away from the fryer. It doesn't sit for a moment to let the oil drip away. So blot while you eat! I'm not sure if this is just with the sausage potato, but some of the potato was under cooked. The sausage was a little dry and over cooked. It was similar in texture to a slim jim. It was still flavorful. I'm already thinking about what I will order the next time I visit. Original Potate ($6) and pay the extra ($1) for nacho cheese on top. They accept credit cards using the Square app.

I believe it's a little truck in the food area and I am not sure if there's seating around, but I think not since it's giving a street dog vibe. My order was made so fast! I got the typical LA dog, which was wrapped in bacon and had grilled onions and bell peppers on top. I can't believe this was my first street dog EVER and that's when I realized what I was missing out all the time after concerts... It was SOOO good!!! I'm so glad I was feeling gluttonous and got an extra large glizzy because I ended up gobbling up the whole thing. This was exactly what I needed honestly. Yay hot dogs! The only minor thing that I didn't love is that I ordered "homemade chips" and they just gave me a small bag of Lays for $2.50. I didn't love that I payed that much for probably a 50 cent worth bag when I expected some nice homemade ones so they should definitely change that on the orders.

I was told that the Chicago Dog was good. I had the Chili Dog with cheese. It was okay. The chili had good flavor. Based on prior reviews, I was expecting that signature snap when I bit into the dog. I was disappointed that it was not there. The vanilla ice cream was great. The fries were fresh and hot. This place is on a busy street so it can get rather loud sitting outside. It was touch windy and cold when we were there. The hot dog was not as epic as I expected. I was disappointed that the dog had no snap and just tasted just ok. I would come back and try something else from the menu. The shakes sound good.
