Torchy's is always a good idea if you're near one. We went by for beans and guacamole. The service was fairly quick and friendly. The lighting is dim but bright due to ceiling to floor windows at the entry and all the summer sunlight. The FIFA games are on all the televisions so you can watch the games in real time with family and friends. We ordered and waited at the bar. I ordered the trio of salsa(pretty spicy), guacamole, and queso. I tried some queso immediately and tried some of my sisters refried beans and both were super flavorful. I love quick bites with massive amounts of chips. My trio came with two to go bags of tortilla chips and she had one for her order. We always swing by a Torchy's if we're nearby. I haven't been to Torchy's in a while and decided it was time to have it again. I thought my last visit was average, and my latest trip was the same. I'm disappointed because I used to look forward to Torchy's, but now I'll pass. I ordered the special Shuggies, a democrat and chips and salsa. The Shuggies is described as a smash burger with cheese, dill relish, etc on a flour tortilla. Weird, but I was Feeling adventurous. I was soon disappointed. A smashburger patty? How can you tell with the mountain of lettuce and toppings. Couldn't see it and couldn't taste it. Dill relsih? Couldn't find that either. After i scraped off most of the toppings, i found a slice of American cheese on a burger patty; not a smash. Do you need lessons in what a smash patty is? Glad to help if you out. (No not really) The Democrats and chips and salsa were okay. They matched the description, but were not memorable. Service is non-existent. The server had zero interest in his job. What type of restaurant is Torchy's? Kiosks to oder with buzzer pucks, but a full service bar and self serve soft drinks. Odd tome. So why ask to leave a tip on the kiosk? I do the order, handle payment, get my own drink, and bus my table. Why tip? In comparison, Velvet has the vibe of the young Torchy's. They have humans to engage with. Not a full bar, but serve wicked Margs. Chillango's has the authenticity and energy most operators will sell their soul to duplicate. And the tacos are cheap. Authentic food and experience. Been once before, and was pleasantly surprised- tacos weren't out of this world, but were very solid. Service was quick, professional, and frictionless. We started with the hillbilly queso and chips, loaded with just enough chorizo to satisfy. I followed with the Baja shrimp taco, whose lime juice and pickled onions kept the taco bright and let the shrimp shine. Next, the Republican, whose smoked beef brisket stole the show. Lastly, a Trailer Park Trashy, which I can't say blew me away but was satisfying nonetheless. All in all, 4/5 stars, would certainly go back if in the area. read more

This may be supremely touristy of me but I've gotta say it... I LOVE TORCHY'S TACOS!! This is a must-stop-kinda-spot for me anytime I'm visiting Texas! I was in town for a 5 day work conference and happened to be there on one of THE OLDEST weeks of the year. As such, I didn't really feel like walking around the city and popping into eateries. One of the nights I was there, I hopped on a food delivery app and saw Torchy's as an option and IMMEDIATELY stopped scrolling and got to ordering. I ordered the Baja shrimp taco, the Brushfire taco, and a side of their street corn. Delivery was quick, my food was fresh, and everything I had was DELICIOUS!!! Honestly, the street corn was my favorite!! I wish I would've ordered 2 of them and taken some home. Goodness... that beautiful flavor from the perfectly grilled corn flowed harmoniously with the smokiness of the spices and the refreshing taste of the aioli. This is a side dish I would absolutely eat as a main dish, anytime. I still am thinking about it to this day... All of this to say.. Torchy's is reliably delicious, hits the spot, and has such a wonderful variety of tacos that cater to all sorts of diets, including pescatarian and vegetarian. Took a trip to Dallas and my friend recommended me to try their Baja Shrimp Taco. I'm not one to go for seafood in tacos, burritos, and/or quesadilla but I kid you not, the Baha Shrimp Taco made me want to go back for seconds!!! Absolutely flavorful all around with the crunch of the fried shrimp and the culmination of spices, with the lime juice to provide that hint if zest. All for five dollars and some change. And might I add that it was filling for a pretty big eater like myself. Service was friendly and the Ambiance was kind of like a taco truck with tables and AC lol. If I had one complaint it was the young lady that was cleaning off tables, not sure if she was just having a day, overworked or just a mean ass but I greeted her with a " I hope you have a better day!" my boyfriend and i always come to this location and order delivery some days. We have always loved this location until today, 10/31/25, where we both got food poisoning. Not even 5 minutes after we left, my boyfriend had to make a detour to a nearby drugstore because he got sick immediately. The ambiance (4/5) is pretty cool--kind of an irreverent feel, similar to Jimmy John's. The service (4/5) is pretty basic. It is a fast food restaurant. You order, pay, get your food, and seat yourself. But the food (5/5) doesn't taste like fast food. The beef (5/5) in my "democrat" taco was outstanding, as was the green salsa (5/5) that comes on the side. They have a lot of great taco combinations, but don't leave without trying the "democrat." Welp! The Business owner didn't lie when they said to come back so they can turn my original review around!! Honestly Marian (SP?!) was the redeemer here!! She was so friendly during our order, she even came over to check on us when the line died down to make sure all was good! It was just a nice touch that she kept an eye on us through out our time there. As stated in my original review the employees expediting the food were friendly and fast! In fact, the same guy from my first review was back at it again; we didn't get a touch point this time with him but the girl who did bring us everything was also so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Service is quick, our food came out before our drinks from the bar did - seemed the manager was working the bar so my thought is he had to stand in for someone who didn't make it to work that night. Just watching the crowd come and go and pick up orders flying out too, they were on top of it. I overheard there was a mix up with a delivery order or something and the guy helping them apologized for their experience and asked to make it up to them by getting their food out right away. This place is extremely hard to find parking. The nearby lots all are dedicated for this businesses with towing enforced. The street parking in front of Torchy's is limited and I had to circle 3/4 times before I could find a spot. I almost gave up and decided to eat somewhere else. Only after looking at reviews did I find there is additional parking out back. I wish it was more noted for these businesses. I always order their republican and today was no difference. This location is just as good as their other location and I really enjoyed my tacos. I decided to try their Mexican rice as well and it was pretty good. Their ranch dip is great as well. The atmosphere is loud and lively, great for hangouts. I would recommend torchys if you haven't tried before. read more

Yummy and quick tacos for anyone needing a quick fix for lunch or dinner. The first thing that caught my eye is all the unique taco flavor combinations (really made it hard to choose). After carefully analyzing the menu, I settled for the Matador, Mr.Orange, and 3ct Lil Nookies. Out of the two, Mr.Orange was definitely my favorite. The meat was great and the taco came with lots of toppings. I was less of a fan of the Matador and in general felt the tacos were a little overpriced. Have been coming to this Torchy's since it first opened up years ago.. the vibe here has always been cool, and the set up of the restaurant is awesome. It has a full service bar area, an indoor dining area, and a couple outdoor dining areas that have TV's you can watch from as well! The food has always been great here. I usually just get one of their breakfast tacos, which are reasonably priced, especially for how much you're getting in return. I will say the staff here is the one hang up. While I've had times where the service was great, I've also had times where the service was very dodgy and it wasn't even busy inside. So basically, there wasn't much of an excuse either.. All in all, I'd definitely recommend checking this Torchy's out, especially if you live in the SMU area and are only a walk or so away! read more

I came with my girlfriend as we were in Dallas for a few days, and this was the closest one to our hotel. We called an uber to take us to and from Torchy's. Yes we wanted it that bad. We got the queso and chips and then a few tacos. We got the trailer park and the tipsy chick tacos. We love these tacos. They are super filling and taste so good. Comes with all the fixins too. They have plenty of other tacos to choose from, depending on what you like, so you're bound to find something you like. This Torchy's is right on SMU campus, so it's more of a college type of Torchy's, but still good nonetheless. I definitely recommending visiting Torchy's if you ever find yourself in Texas. On the weekends this location will likely be packed but it's easy to find a seat or take your tacos to go. For better parking, go around back to the parking lot and there will likely be an open spot inside or outside. read more
