First time dining in Torchys and it was ok. I came in on a Saturday. Service was kind of blah. The cashier was great. I asked the server a question about the pager she didnt answer just took it out my hand and placed it back on the table. No explanation and walked away. I thought it was rude and so did the other people with me. It does not take much to smile and have a little engagement with patrons (it was not busy). On the upside the food was good. The food here is hit and miss. The tortillas are served...cold? Or at least unwarmed...which takes away from the fillings. I think the tacos have too much going on but are fine. The Hogfather is my favorite. But they all have 1-2 too many ingredients. What is amazing is their chips and queso. World class. The secret menu Matador is my favorite: 2 tortillas, one crispy, with refried beans smeared between them, shredded brisket with bacon, picked onions, jalepenos, avocado, and salsa. When I married my Texan husband, he told me we'd have to eat Torchy's together. A lot. And I'll be honest, at first I didn't quite see the appeal. But I've learned that you have to order the right things to get hooked, so let me just tell newcomers this: get a Crossroads on flour. Preferably with the poblano ranch sauce. With that out of the way, this is our local Torchy's location and it's a good one. Our order is always right, and employees are friendly. They can get pretty packed during rush meal times, and occasionally there will be an off day where the food isn't quite AS good as usual, but nothing egregious. Still always tasty. And while we used to have to wait for our pickup orders to be ready long after the scheduled time, they seem to have ironed out the kinks and have been right on time since! read more

When the food arrived, I noticed a black hair in my friend's taco, which suggests a lack of hygiene and cleanliness being followed in the kitchen. I'm decreasing my stars. I think the only way to get good service is to order in the restaurant and stay there and eat. I've now ordered ahead twice and had two issues getting my food timely. This time, the app gave me 10 minutes for my simple order of chips and queso to be ready. I arrived 12 minutes later and it wasn't ready. I waited 7 minutes and still no order. I finally found someone to ask, and he went and checked on it. Two minutes later, my order arrived. What's the point of ordering ahead if I'm going to stand and wait anyway? I'm so disappointed. I recently moved to Austin from DC and can officially say Torchy's is possibly one of my fav fast casual food places. It is amazingly delicious. Best part about this place? You can get a frozen marg lol I've learned quick, if there's one thing guaranteed here in Austin, you can always get frozen margs and tacos. My two fav things so I love that for me. For me, I always get the Tipsy Chick taco and a kids fried chicken taco because I can easily add what I want on it versus removing multiple items from their already crafted menu. I'm just a wee bit picky ;). I also love that Torchy's is both a sit down restaurant with a little mini bar but some of their locations have drive through's. Whether you're a permanent Austinite or just a temporary visitor, I would definitely recommend hitting up Torchy's if you haven't already! You won't be disappointed. read more

We don't usually eat out or takeout on Saturdays. However, I spent a couple of hours during the prime heat of the day, watching my youngest grandsons football scrimmage. I was soaking wet and exhausted and not looking forward to going home and making dinner. I started to think about what we had already eaten this week and what might be a good thing to pick up. Torchys came to mind because I was in the mood for an adult beverage and currently we don't have any alcohol in our home. So I actually decided to go directly to Torchys before it got busy as it was close to 5 PM. When I got there, I realized my timing was good and I chose to stay in my car (considering I was still sopping wet including my hair dripping!) and order online. Hubby will tolerate tacos, but really prefers breakfast in them versus any other style and Torchys has all kinds of tacos all day long. I was hoping for a margarita on the adult beverage takeout menu, but there wasn't one this time so I decided to try the Torchys Torchys, Cherry Limeade. it was a risk because there was no description, but considering that I have always been a risk taker, I went ahead. You'll notice that this Torchys has an average of three stars and that the reviews I have done have been five star all the way if I could've issued 3 1/2 stars, I would have this time as the drink ended up being so bad I couldn't even drink it, it was extremely bitter. The only flavor I could sense was a lot of lime. I was so disappointed as per the norm. The tacos we ordered were excellent along with the half order of queso and chips. One of the things that I have always felt strongly about is that Torchys has always been consistent with their food in our opinion . Since there are not half stars in Yelp, I went ahead and gave them four stars only for the fact that it was my decision to try the drink that I've never tried before. -- I would strongly encourage you to ask for a sample before you order the whole drink -in case your taste buds fall where mine do. I will reinforce that I really enjoy their margaritas as well as their Mexican Martinis-- you can see the tacos we ordered Below. I also took a chance and decided to try the Lil Nookies-a chocolate chip cookie dough, concoction dipped into a crunchy coating which is the desert they offer. The rice was overcooked, the sauces were awful, and I honestly don't understand how you can advertise and serve something like this. I really enjoyed this place. I'm not a huge fan of crazy taco combinations but this one really gets it right! I ordered the brisket taco and it was awesome! The brisket was perfect the bacon marmalade really puts it over the top. The chicken taco I had (can't remember the name) was fun. I removed the spinach but it had corn, green chilies and a sauce. The texture was well done and really mixed well. I also had a side of street corn. I had a LOT of sauce so my corn wasn't as good as it had the potential to be, but I had plenty of food to pick from. I am so disappointed that Torchy's has removed the jalapeño sausage from their menu. That was my go to every Saturday and Sunday for breakfast tacos.
