I really like the brightly lit patio at this Torchys location. It's very open, with wide covered benches and makes for a great setting on most nights, especially when the weather is pleasant. I have been here numerous times and the staff has always been very friendly and service is quick. My favorite is the fried avocado taco although I tried the beyond meat veggie taco recently and it was quite filling. The Green Chile queso is delightfully tasty; the best queso in town. So, I'm from southern CA, here on business. I LOVE tacos. Like, I'd eat tacos every meal and I'd be just fine with that. Got into town a bit late and wanted something quick. Didn't look up Torchy's, just happened to see it near my hotel. These are not authentic Mexican food. But that's, ok. They were still good tacos. I ordered the Crossroad taco (x2, pic uploaded). The meat was a bit dry but they were flavorful and the jalapeño combined with cilantro/onion was a good mix of heat/cool in every bite. They were fast too. I only waited about 4min for them to be brought out. One downside, they have A LOT of options. I've found with si many choices, it can be hard for the restaurant to really get close to perfection because they're trying too many things. Cut the menu in half, focus on flavor, tender/moist meat, and you have yourself a really great taco. Vibe was chill. Pretty slow since it was about 9p and well after any kid of dinner rush. But the restaurant was clean and well lit. Self service drinks like most fast food spots. Overall, I've had better tacos but I would eat here again since they did a good job. read more

Hello, I went to order for lunch and the clearly said the order right, she even repeated the order after to make sur it was correct (Lots of items) and when I got home, I was missing 2 tacos. I hate having to call and complain or return to the store to get the order correct. The time you leave and get home it's hard to go back and make the order correct. Waste of time, fuel and efforts, in my opinion. I understand people make mistakes but should slow down a little to make sure the order is correct. Wasn't expecting this place to be as good as it was. It was recommended by an Uber driver, and like it says on the sign, they were 'damn good'. We had the Trailer Park, Crossroads, Brushfire, and Baja Shrimp. The Baja shrimp was my favorite - very crispy but not too much batter. Very delicious when topped with the Chipotle sauce. If your visiting from out of town you might have heard of Torchys before, and you may want to go, and you should, but here the thing about Torchys... You have to find your right Taco. They have a lot of options, including some unusual ones, and they all taste really different. It took several visits to Torchys, because my husband loves it (he gets the Brushfire), for me to find a Taco I liked enough to be excited about going here. It's not Torchys fault, the Trailer Park, Fried Avocado, and Chicken Fajita Taco's were all right there on the menu the whole time, I just hadn't tried them yet. So, if you aren't willing to invest several visits on finding your right Taco, or your not in town long enough to do so, here are my tips. Playing it safe? Just order Chips & Queso. Their Queso is fantastic and it's well worth making a meal of just that. If you want a Taco, but aren't sure what to get, the Chicken Fajita is a safe bet. It's not their most unique/adventurous flavor, so you won't be getting the full Torchys experience, but you will still be getting a damn fine Taco. DON'T get the breakfast Taco. There's nothing wrong with theirs per say, it's just that there are SO MANY other great breakfast Tacos in Austin, so don't bother with theirs. They have a lot of other options that are much better. Also, on this location in particular, it's not as grungy as some of the older locations, so you will miss some of the vibe, but I honestly prefer this one cause it's always clean, and usually not too busy. Also the Lil'Nookies (fried chocolate chip cookie dough) have been hit and miss for me at other locations, but they are always good at this one. And note the capitalization of Taco throughout this review, because it's Austin and we put respect on that name. read more

Can't believe I waited this long to try Torchys. I now know what all the rave is about. Their tacos are tasty! It looks like the corn tortillas are fresh as well as their ingredients. I am knocking it a star because it is a bit pricey at $4 or $5 per taco. Now I know it's Austin and I've been in the ATX for over 25 years but still that's pricey for one taco "come on man" it's a taco. Let me start out by saying if you haven't tried Torchy's you're missing out. They have these haunts in several cities throughout Texas and possibly a few other nearby states. My sister went to TCU and all she talked about was Torchy's. Anyways she moved to Austin a few months back and I finally had a chance to experience Torchy's first hand. This particular location opened up at 8:00AM which was wonderful because my husband and I were jonesing for it the day after Thanksgiving. We started things off with a frozen margarita and a mimosa. Both were top notch. The frozen margarita wasn't lacking in the booze department either. In no particular order my husband and I had the following: Queso & Chips 5/5 (best queso!!!!) Crossroads 5/5 Greene Chili 5/5 Mr. Orange 5/5 Brushfire 4/5 Trailer Park 10/5 (these were my favorite!!!) There are so many great taco spots in Austin, the list goes on and on. Torchy's tacos has a few locations around town, and I have been to two of them so far. The food at both locations was consistent and enjoyable. I loved the creative twist on their menu. This is definitely a go-to spot, time and time again, for good tacos. You have to try the rice as well! I've had the Democrat, Republican, and the trashy version of the Tipsy Chick. I've also had a few other tacos that I can't remember, but I've never had a complaint with any of them. Yes the Tacos are good, but they aren't all great. read more

Update: I did reach out to the restaurant a week ago and never heard back. --- Unfortunate experience at Torchys. I normally visit the location in Mueller but popped by this one today. I ordered three tacos and salsa and chips. I ordered at 12:37 and received my to go order at 1:09. 32 minute wait. The manager was working and told people waiting after they had ordered that the wait was longer than normal, but she didn't tell those in line. I was really disappointed in my food. The two tacos were fine but the seasonal one Tuk Tuk was inedible because the meat was so tough. I mean that you couldn't chew it period, the meat would not break apart. I haven't been to Torchy's in awhile so decided to make a trip there for lunch with my hubby as we had a $5 gift card. The place wasn't super busy which was great for us. The person who took our order was super nice and very helpful. My order is always complicated as I have to make sure there is no dairy or gluten. She made sure to get my answers to my questions concerning a few items in my order. I highly appreciated that since I didn't want to have issues later on. While we waited for our meal, we had ordered chips and salsa to munch on. The chips tasted and looked like store bought chips. The salsa was flavorful so it made up for the chips. I ordered two tacos; the green chili pulled pork and Mr. orange. The flavor was lacking today and just didn't taste that great. My husband felt the same with his meal as he had ordered the republican and the crossroads. I feel that there are better options in the area if you want a good taco. read more

Last day visiting folks in Austin and we needed a quick lunch before heading to the airport. I was in the mood for tacos, so a family member recommended this place. What a great recommendation it turned out to be! There was a good array of delicious sounding tacos, full of meats and cheeses of different varieties attached to fun names. (The Democrat and the Republican come to mind...) I am on a restricted diet, and they had no problem customizing my order. Because I just got a boring burrito, I did not include any pictures, however I was able to order some of their fresh made churros and boy! Were they delicious! Fresh and crispy, light and obviously freshly out of the fryer... They were coated with cinnamon sugar and served with a side of dulce, the Leche. (See my photo) The other folks in my party really enjoyed their brisket tacos, as well as one called the tipsy chick. And our resident beer drinker agreed with my rating as the beverage selection was excellent and they even had a decent IPA, on tap. We ordered everything at the counter, and the customer service was quick and efficient, as we received our orders a few minutes after ordering. The outdoor seating, was ample and we were able to get a covered spot. It was perfect for an 80° Austin, Texas winter day. People who don't like Torchy's might be ordering the wrong thing. The food has always been consistently good. I made a Togo order this past Sunday afternoon and when I picked it up, the food was on time and piping hot. I got one trashy trailer park taco and one Baja shrimp taco - one full of chicken and queso gooey deliciousness and the other fried shrimp with super fresh ingredients. I don't care for cilantro, so I order them without. We also got a margarita and I was surprised how good it was! Prices are a bit high per taco in my personal opinion, but I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. read more

There are, and I'm not over exaggerating here, hundreds of better places to get tacos here in Austin. You know how you'll often be driving down the street and see a taco truck parked outside of a gas station? One might think to themselves, "ew, gas station tacos!" And, one is usually wrong. 9 times out of 10, even the gas station taco trucks will blow torchy's out of the water. If you aren't feeling adventurous though, and you'd rather eat at a chain, find a Veracruz. They're always solid, and again, genuinely night and day better than Torchy's.
