I've never had a bad experience at this place and I've come here multiple times. The food is always prepared quickly and made to perfection. I've never had a complaint regarding food. Drinks are a different story. I don't recommend buying any of the frozen margaritas. It was honestly not good and just a waste of money. Just buying the tacos and guacamole or salsa is more than enough. It's a pretty cheap place to eat and for the amount you get and the taste it's well worth it. Torchys! How do I love thee? (Record scratch) I think the other night was my last visit to this place. We have been here a lot, more than 10 times( This for me is comfort food). The problem is, we have had a lot more poor experiences ( see the aforementioned comfort thing and my queso problem below). One time the line was almost out the door and one person was working cash register and one employee was standing arms crossed watching. What?!? Tacos vary in quality and vary in price (from around $3 -$5.50 a pop) I love the pork taco and brush fire. Some have no flavor- the fried avocado is bland, egg tacos have poor seasoning. I just got a chicken taco that was so rubbery when I bit the taco my teeth could not pierce it. Your taco could be seasoned and tender or it could be a tire. I was a little disappointed with this location. I've had Torchy's a few times in Houston and loved it every time. But this place wasn't my favorite. We went on a Saturday night so the line was looooooong. We had to wait 20+ minutes to order. I decided to try the Alabama Shake taco which has a fried piece of catfish in it. It was OK but I wasn't that impressed. It was not my fave. I should have stuck with the shrimp taco or the salmon taco (Mr. Orange). My boyfriend ordered the Beef Fajita taco and he liked it but didn't love it. Along with the tacos, I ordered the queso. I have always loved their queso since it also has a scoop of guacamole in it too. It wasn't that great this time because it wasn't that hot. In fact, all my food was served warm, not hot. I normally don't like to write bad reviews but we've just had a terrible experience. We ordered food at the register but tried to order an alcoholic drink but the cashier said they no longer take drink orders at the front and I would have to order at the bar so that the bartenders can get more tip. That was fine, however, I proceeded to wait patiently at the bar for over 20 minutes while the bartender tended to people at the bar, chatting, and then sitting at the kiosk completely ignoring me. It wasn't until I had to walk up next to her before she acknowledged me. By this time, my food was sitting on the table, getting cold. The cashier (Christina or Christy was her name), was downright rude. She was rushing us, putting words into his mouth while he was speaking and she was not listening. We walked up to the register when we were ready to order. My brother knew exactly what he wanted but he is slow to speak...apparently too slow for the cashier. She was impatient. Now, I will say, usually at Fuzzy's I'll get the shrimp burrito, but Torchy's "Baja" was more of what I would expect of a shrimp taco. I really really enjoyed it. They didn't skimp out of the shrimp, and there was a shrimp for each bite. Now, that queso w/ chorizo and guacamole, THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD!!!! It's. It your typical taco joint...... Torchy's doesn't resemble anything like your typical taco joint. The combinations here are delicious as they combine different flavors and ingredients to create great tasting tacos. The flavors are very complex and there's so many different kinds of tacos, there's something for everyone. This visit they had their monthly special which was 4 different tacos each getting hotter and spicier than the last. I was able to have the 3rd and 4th tacos and the third was spicy and very tasty. The 4th was super spicy due to the ghost chilies but had good flavor. The chilies came back on me later in the evening and made me sweat all over while I was eating it. Ouch. But still worth the try. My God, how have I not reviewed Torchy's Tacos yet? We have probably gone here a hundred or so times since this place opened. In fact, some of the employees have started recognizing us, so it is probably time to review our home Torchy's. Whether ordering off the standard menu or the secret menu, I have never had a taco at Torchy's I did not like. For the price and what you get, it is a solid option. You can get a breakfast taco for a few bucks, and if you get bored with their normal menus, they rotate new tacos in monthly, sometimes weekly. If you are an avid taco aficionado, Torchy's will not blow you away with its awesomeness, BUT, no matter what time you come here, you'll get exactly what you order. And, that alone is worth four stars. But, the customer service here is spotty at best. We've had experiences where we've been hung up on, our orders misplaced, and just general rude service. On the other hand, we've also had amazing customer service experiences where managers have gone out of their way to make sure we're happy, and spent hours chitchatting with bartenders. So, while I may want to drop Torchy's down to three stars, I have to keep them at four. And, if you're looking for a Torchy's hack, I have one for you. For some reason, when you order in house, you get more than when you order to go. The tacos are more filled, so if you want to game the system a bit, order in house, and just wrap your food up. This will get you bigger portions. I also have another hack: order at the bar. The lines here can get ridiculous, but most people do not know that you can order food and drinks at the bar. So, if you're in a long line, and look over to see an empty bar, don't stay there like a lemming, go to the bar and order. You'll look like a boss and feel better about yourself too. When you first walk in they have a menu that has a massive amount of taco choices. Today wait was minimal and decided on trying a few different tacos. I got the Democrat, pulled pork, shrimp Baja. The price is similar to other high end taco shops. After taking order sat at booth and with in 10 minutes my food arrived hot and delivered but friendly staff. The pulled pork was just ok nothing to write home about. The Democrat was my least favorite. It tasted off and honestly threw it in trash after eating the avocado it came with. The shrimp Baja taco was definitely worth the trip. It was cooked perfectly and the sauce it came with was insanely good. I've been obsessing over tacos lately, and you can imagine my excitement when I found out a Torchy's was opening in Arlington! I've had Urban Taco, and this place was equally as good. I got the salmon taco and their famous chips & queso along with a Torchy-tini. All delicious!! The salmon was flaky and had the perfect seasoning. The queso, although a little too spicy for my taste, was so addicting that I couldn't stop! The Torchy-tini was served in the shaker, and you can just pour it into your glass as you go. I loved the idea, and it was way more than I could drink, easily 3 glass full. At around $4/taco, it may be kind of pricey, but well worth it every once in awhile. They also have drink specials everyday, so make sure to look at them before you order! Now to the cons...the girl that helped us at the front was kind of rude. We asked her about recommendations on drinks, and she just shut us down saying she never tried any of them before. We became hesitant to ask her anything after that, so we just ordered and sat down. After hearing much about Torchy's, I had to go check it out once they opened up an Arlington location. My first experience was drastically better than the last one. When I first went, I was there for lunch with a friend and we perused the menu, ordered, and enjoyed a nice long conversation while partaking in some tasty tacos. My second visit was not as enjoyable. My most recent visit to Torchy's was a hot mess. My coworker and I came for lunch and waited a good 20 minutes (probably closer to 30) for our food. That debacle came after having to stumble through an order with our awkward, unhelpful cashier who chugged Red Bull in between taking orders. He was not good about informing us about what options we had as far as our tacos were concerned. Instead of asking whether we wanted corn or flour tortillas, he just assumed that we wanted flour. I asked for corn on one taco but meant to ask for corn on my trailer park taco as well and ended up with flour. When I asked about different sauces, he told me that I should've ordered earlier and that since the transaction was complete it was too late. Rude much? I text messaged the number on the napkin dispenser to give my feedback as I waited for my food. I did receive a response and the cashier was moved to the bar, where he just macked on pretty ladies and probably messed up drink orders. The person who text messaged me sent an apology (that seemed pretty empty in my opinion) and an offer for free chips and salsa. By the time someone came to our table, we had already eaten so the offer was not worth the wait. Plus I don't give feedback with the hopes of getting a freebie. I give feedback because I like for employees to be coached so that service can improve in the future. We needed to get back to work and had spent close to an hour, if not longer, in Torchy's. As far as the food is concerned, the tacos are ok for wannabe street tacos. They're a bit overpriced in my opinion but they do try to compensate for that by giving you a LOT of meat. I would rather receive less meat and pay less or have a second tortilla included (like real street tacos) so I could make an extra taco. The queso is good and has a bit of a kick to it. Of the tacos I've tried, the winner is the green chile pork. The trailer park was ok and the beef fajita was an option that should be scrapped from the menu if they're not going to improve the flavor of the beef fajitas. Will I be back? Sure. I ask for a side of meat, a 3rd bowl of cheese comes out after waiting a total of 15 mins. To have another WARM bowl of queso the chips were all broken it was a horrible dining experience. I don't know if it's the younger staff that's lackadaisical and just there to collect a check. I do know I won't eat at torchy's again. Well at least not the one in the Highlands Poooo Eeeeee. I gave them a lot of leeway when they first opened. They've now been open for almost a year and cannot get their act together. My husband left an hour ago to pick up to-go food. We live one block away. It was not busy. He waited for 35 minutes for the food. Oh, but oops, they forgot the chips. Another 10 minutes to find the chips. I guess they lost them. He'd like a side of pico. Another 10 minutes for the pico to come out. Turns out the food had been sitting in the kitchen for 15 or 20 minutes before anyone bothered to bring it out to him, so now it's all cold. This is the latest in a series of screw ups. It is normal practice that they run out of key ingredients of what you order, serve it to you anyway, and then shrug when you ask "where's my cheese?" or "where's my guacamole?" Last visit. This location is 1000% garbage. edit: when he got home, it turned out that they didn't put all the ingredients on the taco he ordered. Again. He went back because he didn't wait or an HOUR for a to-go taco order to NOT get what he wanted. I may never see him again. read more
