Carne asada plate & tacos, delicious. Birria Ramen, this was also pretty bland... the noodle were great but it was missing some overall flavor. I do wish we could sub some sides, even for an uncharge. I would have rather had chips & cheese than fries, but it wasn't allowed so I didn't order a torta like I originally wanted. But the girl was super apologetic about it, rules are rules, I appreciate how nice she was about it. Prices are pretty good & the servings are huge. Atmosphere 4/5: It's chilly in there, which I like, definitely wear we need in Texas. Booths are spacious, good for groups & they have large tables put together as well. Pass this location so many times that we finally decided to stop in when we realized our typical taco joint was closed. So happy that we're so close to many good taco places! My husband got the chilaquiles which he's always happy to find when places have them. It was pretty filling and reasonably priced. I got the quesabirria which was okay. The churro was okay too. Hard to be great with these when there is a lot of competition in the DFW area. Location was very clean and spacious. Service was friendly. Third visit to Gilberto's. First time: bland and barely seasoned. Not good. Second time: surprisingly delicious, though it still needed a little salt. Third time: back to bland again. Almost no flavor. The biggest issue here is consistency.I literally had to add my own salt just to make it taste like something... Went to a track meet in Arlington on Friday & after we left we saw so many cars wrapped around the building, so decided to give them a try. What I will give them props on is their price. Their individual taco prices (roughly $2.50) & meals ($11-14) are very reasonably priced. I also like that although their line was consistently wrapped around the building, waits weren't long. When it comes to flavor ? Ehhhhh. I honestly have to say nothing stood out to me, but then again all I ordered were carne asada tacos. I brought my buddies here and we all loved it. I started things out with their hot Chito Carne Asada fries, which were amazing my buddy got Birria tacos. He loved them. My other buddy got a shrimp quesadilla and he fell in love with it. We also got rolled tacos and Carne Asada tacos, which we shared, and Man felt like we were in San Diego again. We like to try new places and order several items to get a great review. None of these items were made with any type of seasoning and not to mention the asada did seem old. My son is back of the house and said the same about the meat. Also, they sent us away with no salsa! We like salsa with our tacos and burritos. We came from DeSoto so it's quite a drive. Good thing we noticed and turned back. Someone in these reviews said the salsa is homemade? The salsa was packaged. Maybe they offer homemade when you dine in? So sad. Thank goodness for Yelp friends or I would have never known this was here.as I tend to avoid Copper all together. Gilbertos 2 is not on Cooper, it is just east of it, behind the pharmacy. New location, beautiful mural, same quality tacos you expect from Gilbertos. This location also is easier to get in and out of, as they have a good amount of parking. And don't forget the drive thru! I stopped by and got the asada and fish tacos. I had not tried their fish before and I had been missing OUT. SO good! Next time though, I would ask to leave off the sour cream. It is hiding under all the veg and isn't my favorite. The fish is perfectly cooked, and so flavorful. The asada is a bit on the greasy side, but so tasty. I am a salsa verde fan and they have two! It came out to $17 and change for the and a bottled Coke. The fish was the best flavor wise but the amount of fish they give you is laughable. The carne asada tastes like Lawry's seasoning and the carnitas tastes like it was cooked in rancid oil. The bottled Coke was barely cooler than room temp. The positives are the friendly staff and the time I had to wait to get my food was around only 5 minutes after I ordered. The atmosphere is very casual. Listen, I was sooooo excited when I saw a Gilberto's being built so close to my home. Funny thing - I hadn't even been to the original, yet! Gilberto's has a reputation, and a good one at that in Arlington. On more than one occasion someone has said to me, "You have to try Gilberto's!" To be honest, the old location was a little off-putting, appearance wise. It always looked a bit too old to me, and not kept the best. Entering this new Gilberto's, however, I was excited. The menu is plain and simple. Truly straightforward and easy to understand. You can order the usual combo platters or tacos a-la-carte. The first thing that I noticed when digging in was that the beans were spectacular. They were salty but not too salty, and not a lump to be seen. The rice was good, too. The tacos were compact (smaller than somewhere like Papaya) but they packed a punch of great taste. The Birria Tacos came with the dipping sauce on the side, and the meal came with three salsas. We ordered the chips separately for an additional charge. Reportedly, the fish taco and grilled chicken tacos were a bit dry, but I did not try them. Despite being dry, the flavor was reportedly great. I believe that a dash of spicy salsa added to the taco could have solved that, but not my taco, not my problem! I really liked that they sell their salsa by the jar, too. I didn't pick it up (this time!) but surely will in the future. One drawback - the plumbing ventilation needs work. It's not overpowering, but the building does have a very slight sewer gas smell. It wasn't overpowering or off-putting to me, but could be to some. Did I mention - the drive thru is open til midnight? All the more time to give it a try! read more
