Tora is a cute place for japanese food in bushwick! My friends and I enjoyed the food and the portions are quite generous considering the price. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The only reason I docked a star was because its really hard to hear each other talk, the music was loud and the sound doesn't travel well with all the concrete in the restaurant. You basically have to shout to hear each other. I'd recommend consulting a sound engineer or looking into better sound proofing materials and/or lowering the music.

Had two wonderful dinners within a week while visiting Brooklyn. Great staff who are friendly and attentive in a place with cool vibes Tried different items in the menu and they are consistently good. Good sake too. Highly recommend making reservation to prevent disappointment. We've tried the sashimi plate, miso black cod, pork jowl and beef short ribs yakitori. The cucumber salad and scallop salad are also worthy of praise. Definitely coming back on my next trip.

One of the better sushi spots in bushwick. They consider themselves Japanese. I ordered from here twice, once from Uber Eats and today in Person. Both times were good. Their steak kebabs are good. Portions are on the smaller side. A little bit pricey, but would come back again

My friend brought my boyfriend and I here one weeknight, as we've all been trying to go out to eat in our neighborhoods more and we had such a great time. The restaurant is small yet very aesthetic. We were seated at a back table upon arrival and ordered our drinks. My friend got an absolutely delicious yuzu sake, and I got the Bushwick Bay and a Diet Coke. My drink was a lot fruitier than I had hoped but was still so so good, and his sake was probably some of the best sake I've had in a while. To start we shared Japanese tacos. I'm fairly critical of fusion based dishes, as I feel like oftentimes they're more hype than anything, but these were fantastically crunchy and savory. We also all shared the Tri Set, giving us all the opportunity to try 3-4 types of their sushi - all were great. I then had the Miyazaki A5 Hot Stone wagyu steak. I haven't cooked my own Wagyu in a while so I forgot how quickly the process is but it was delicious. Be careful though, the stone is HOT. This was soo good and very melt in your mouth. My friend had the Tonkotsu ramen which she enjoyed and left enough for a to-go container for herself. My partner had the Chashudon, which included super tender pork belly and left satisfied with his choice as well. He also had a beer with this. (They have a really good drink selection here overall) We all ended our meal with a shared pot of green tea and left with our wallets empty, but our bellies full. Would come back again!

Lovedd the salmon zaab and the fly by day cocktail, would definitely come here again for those. Salmon zaab sauce has a noticeable but not overwhelming wasabi spice kick and complements the salmon very well. Fish itself was fresh and decently sized. Fly by day is basically a lychee martini, which I really enjoyed however the volume amount is so little, especially considering it comes with a giant ice cube. Tried some of my friends spicy miso ramen which was also quite good, satisfying comfort esp in the winter cold. Mentaiko pasta was very flavorful, a bit too strongly fishy forward for my preference but the noodles were a nice texture and appreciated how properly sauced they were. Bacon was also nicely crisped which was a nice complement. Corn ribs were pretty disappointing. I think in the description there was something about teriyaki flavor but it tasted literally of just Parmesan sprinkled on bland corn. Jasmine espresso martini had a really pleasant jasmine aroma as you held the glass to your mouth to take a sip but didn't get any jasmine flavor in the actual taste. It tasted like a regular espresso martini. The passionfruit cocktail was decently good, again very small serving with the giant ice cube. Even though I love passionfruit, I'd recommend the fly by day over this one. Our server was really sweet, friendly, and attentive. When my friend expressed concern about the spice level of the spicy miso because she can't handle really spicy, he assured her if it's too spicy for her she could get something else instead. After she got her ramen, he checked in on her to ask how she was doing with the spice level. Street parking was easy to find at least when went cuz it's not on the main street. Would come here again to try more menu items cuz there's a lot more things I am curious to try.

Had a lovely date night at Tora recently, which had been on our radar for a while. We were able to walk in at about 7pm, most of the tables were bust outside of 1-2. We took the meal slowly, ordering in multiple rounds, and were pleased to find that we weren't being rushed at all!! Some of our favorite dishes from the evening were the Mentaiko pasta which had great flavor and texture, along with the Kani Salad which was a good portion for the price. The skewers were perfectly cooked as well! Not sure we would repeat the surf and turf roll or crispy rice- would probably opt to try something different next time we come back! All in all, cute spot with good food and ambiance. Would recommend!

Small menu, but everything was so amazing. This salad was one of the coolest salads I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying! 1000/10

We went to Tora on 12/30 and had the most beautiful time. We were a group of 7 and we ordered a ton of dishes. Everyone had the best time and it was the best dinner out before the end of the year! My boyfriend and I had to try as much as we could so we came hungry and shared 2 chicken thigh yakitori, the sake don, the truffle wagyu ramen, the unagi roll, and we had some takoyaki! Other people at the table also ordered the truffle wagyu ramen and the spicy hotate roll. Some of our friends ordered cocktails and loved them too. Everyone couldn't stop talking about the food, the service was perfect, perfect, perfect too! Having traveled to Japan previously in my life, this is the closest I've had to ramen of that perfection and everything else was just as delicious. We can't wait to go back next time we are in NYC. Sending all our love to the staff!

Really enjoyed my experience at Tora. Ambiance, service and food were great! No-res with my friend (party of 2), late on a Sunday night. No wait thankfully. Katsu - really tasty. Great fry and sauce. Corn ribs - unique take on grilled corn; very tasty Sashimi - great variety and size of the sashimi. Fish was all very fresh. Ambiance makes it great for an intimate dinner and/or date night. Service was very attentive. Would recommend!

The gyoza was the best thing on the menu. The shishito peppers have slivered octopus that moves which was very interesting visually! It didn't really add anything flavor wise though. The crudo was very tasty. I was not a fan of the tuna crispy rice. The slivered beef came recommended. It had flavor but it was underwhelming. Overall most things were just okay.

This is now my 4th time eating at Tora, and yet again another phenomenal experience! Service is always attentive and friendly. We went on a Sunday evening with no reservation and were seated immediately. We ordered: Salmon zaab Hamachi Crudo Chirashi Don Chashudon Bushwick Bay Yuzu Highball Tora Highball (Not Pictured) Vodka Melon Highball (Not Pictured) Tonkotsu Ramen (Not Pictured) Hamachi Kama (Not Pictured) Sashimi Salad (Not Pictured) Everything was beyond expectation, multitudes of flavors and notes in every dish that left nothing to the imagination. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!

The tora donburi was just alright. It didn't stand out as something special. My wife said the mentaiko pasta stood out for being rich and flavorful. The fruity tea was ok. The teacups weren't insulated against heat so it doesn't serve well as teacups.

    Katsu Curry

Everything was splendid. They were quick to get things off the table : used napkins , unneeded plates , came around constantly to top off water and made sure nothing was out of place .The dinner is romantically lit but I saw many friends sitting and having a great time . No judgement of dress code but the atmosphere is so nice it will make you wish you didn't walk in with sweatpants. Not many tables but enough for the traffic it seemed to be getting . It's very a modern classy feel. The katsu curry was breaded thin chicken was tender and juicy and curry was well seasoned. The grilled sticks were cooked perfectly to my taste gizzards chewy mmm squid tender and enoki with pork belly rendered to perfection. What stole the show for me was the mentiko pasta it has the umami of the cod roe blended seamlessly with the mayo and cream on perfectly cooked udon noodles with the accent of crispy bacon for texture and to give your taste buds a break from the richness of the noodles . I highly highly highly recommend the beautiful Mentiko Dish. I promise it's what you're looking for if you liked my description. ENJOY! Thank you for dinner .

However, I was quickly proven wrong. Not only was the service topnotch, but the drinks were surprisingly delicious and refreshing. There's a ton of options which is also surprising considering the tap only format. Upon further reflection of how tiny the bar is, it makes sense why they would go this route. It would be challenging for one person let alone two to be behind that bar shaking and stirring. I also heard there's a back area with more seating but we didn't explore much further than the front bar stool seating. We were lucky to grab 2 seats at the bar as the rest of the seating actually seemed a bit cramped and uninviting. They advertise a heated back patio but I don't think the heat was on and no one was there, which is a bummer. Regardless, the theme is nice with everything attributable to their "laboratory" ambience. Everything is served in beakers or similar glasses. It can get a bit crowded sitting at the bar as that's where everyone orders drinks but otherwise this was quite enjoyable. Will definitely keep on the list for HH.

Got brunch here on a Sunday with a friend. We split the Hot Honey Gem Salad and Hottokeki (Japanese…read moresoufflé pancake). The pancake is gigantic and is absolutely meant to be shared. It was really fluffy and smelled soooo good (reminiscent of the HK street cart waffles). But because it's so big, by the time we ate half of it, we were getting a little tired of the same taste. The salad was good but nothing to rave about. For drinks, we tried the Lebowski-San and Kettl Hojicha Kombucha. It was my first time trying a clarified cocktail and it was really unique. I thought there would be more ice cream honestly but I still loved it. The kombucha though was shockingly tasty. I loved it so much that I bought a bottle online once I got home (they're from Kettl, a local distillery in Brooklyn). The venue is really spacious and I actually planned a wedding here in the past. They host a lot of events and there was even a birthday party happening when I ate there. The only downside is the location. The only train that goes there is the G so it's a bit hard to get to. Food: Hot Honey Gem Salad (radish, buckwheat, fennel, yuzu vinaigrette) 9/10 Hottokeki / Japanese Soufflé Pancake (fluffy hotcake, honey maple butter, sesame) 9/10 Add Mini White Sesame Soft Serve (soy milk, sesame oil) 10/10 - I would recommend just getting this on its own instead of the Hottokeki if you're craving just a little dessert. Drinks: Lebowski-San (green tea shochu, pisco, sakura leaf, clarified matcha ice cream, cold brew coffee floater) 9/10 - This is a clarified cocktail which I didn't expect. I thought I was ordering a matcha ice cream-like drink so although the drink was good, all the ingredients are very subtle in flavor. Kettl x Unified Ferments 'Hojicha' Kombucha (jou yanagi hojicha) 10/10 - This is an absolute must-try!

Last I was here was for brunch and we sat in the outdoor patio area. We got a two things to share and a main each. Shared plates were the soufflé pancake and silken tofu. Both were a miss for me. The pancake had a baking soda aftertaste and also they brought it out right away instead of after we finished our mains so it sat around in the table for a while until we were ready to eat it. Silken tofu had a mediocre flavor palette. There was no variation in texture either, just one plate of mushy items. We didn't finish either one of those. For a main, I ordered a a Wagyu beef bowl. It was really good but on the smaller side. The service was attentive aside from a spillage when the order came. Then they started placing plates on top of the spill instead of wiping the table. Eventually they cleaned it but overall there was lack of training in this case. I am not dying to come back here but would consider if I'm in the area again. I really like the actual space but food/service can improve.
