The carrot cake was good but the peanut butter pie was heavenly. In all a very well prepared dinner. As we got up, the waiter came running over to say "we didn't run your card that's just the new bill". Overall, the food wasn't good but the service and management is what was worse. Shortly after they were served, we discovered that the shots were full of fruit flies. A few people had already consumed their shots before we noticed, while most of us were understandably disgusted. We immediately brought the problem to the attention of the waitstaff. They acknowledged what had happened, but no reimbursement or adjustment was offered for the shots. I later called the manager myself. She told me she was "appalled" and said she needed to speak with the bartender and waitstaff. I completely understood that she would want to investigate, but I never heard back from her. I called twice afterward and still received no response. In my opinion, the obvious and appropriate resolution would have been to immediately remove the 20 shots from our bill. Instead, nothing was done. The lack of follow-up from management was just as disappointing as the original incident. Unfortunately, the food was also a major disappointment. Five of us ordered the Pasta Bolognese, and none of us were able to eat it because we found it to be terrible. That was especially disappointing for a group of 20 dining together. We come to Lake George every year, and this experience has completely changed our opinion of Cates.
