No reservations, only walk-ins, but we were lucky to be seated by Byron who ensured our stay was pleasant. Located by Lake George in Sagamore resort, the setup is brilliant, whether you come here to eat, or just grab a drink! We got the New England Clam Chowder $16), Farmers Summer Salad ($22), and Blackened Fish Tacos ($23) to share. Food was fresh, and the salad was refreshing! Modello on tap went down easy with tacos for our table. Excellent service, perfect set-up, and welcoming staff makes it an easy choice for a quick snack or meal when visiting Lake George!

The poor service is factored into the score, but there's no reason to rehash every detail. We started with the mussels which were exceptional. The saucy broth they are served in is delicious. Unfortunately it's served with not nearly enough bread, and if you ask for more you will be charged (without being told). Our mains were a lobster roll and the steak salad. I am not a good judge of lobster, but it was "delicious." My steak salad did not arrive as ordered. The steak was overcooked (still tender, but certainly not medium-rare) and it was doused in dressing (which I had asked for on the side). The only reason to eat here is for the lake views. You are truly right on the lake. You're paying through the nose for that view because the food is just ok.

Would highly recommend the starter lamb pops and the braised beef. Everything came out on time and hot. Everything was seasoned properly. We ate outside but next time will try inside because it looked so nice. As an FYI, the menu really isn't kid friendly unless they have refined tastes. Haha.

I had every expectation that it would the perfect setting for a quiet dinner with a lovely view, exceptional cuisine and attentive service. Unfortunately, for a restaurant of this caliber, they did not meet the mark. Let's start with the good stuff. They have a parking lot which is really appreciated in Bolton Landing, NY. We were warmly greeted at the door and wished Happy Anniversary. We were seated on the porch (our choice of tables because there was only one set of two diners in the restaurant at 6 p.m. on a Sunday night). Off to a good start. I commented about the pretty dress the hostess (at least we assumed she was) who seated us was wearing. A sweet Jamaican gal who goes by "Skinny Girl" offered water and chatted with us (we recognized her Caribbean accent and asked her which Jamaican parish she was from). She was more attentive to us during the evening than our waiter, Owen (he was clearly overwhelmed handling tables on the porch as well as on the patio outside). To his credit, Owen was honest about the crab legs and we were grateful. Service was slow, from drinks to getting the bill. What really rattled our chains is that the hostess in the pretty dress visited diners at every table on the porch - sometimes more than once - except us. We felt ignored. Our drinks were very good. The specialty of the house (a cucumber concoction) was actually the signature drink at our wedding. My husband enjoyed it. My Blood Orange Martini was delicious, albeit $18 which I thought was more like NYC prices. Appetizers were good. I ordered the Escargot which was served on puff pastry with a light cream sauce. Delicious. My husband's Grilled Clams did not look to be grilled at all, and swimming in what appeared to be the same cream sauce as my Escargot which, because he is lactose intolerant, was a concern. My husband's Chef's Choice steak was strip steak, cooked rare as requested, and served over truffle mashed potatoes with asparagus spears on the side. While pricey st $65, he was pleased. I ordered the venison, rare ($41). What was served to me were 2-1/2 small medallions of which two were rare and one was seriously well done (could not eat it). Spinach was on the side. I would have loved some of the yummy truffle mashed potatoes that accompanied my husband's steak. Again, with no one paying attention to us, by the time our waiter came to check on our food, my husband was already finished with his meal. So Owen's offer to return my overcooked venison to the kitchen was not an option. I packed my dinner to go. We asked for an order of churros to share and two coffees (the espresso machine apparently wasn't working). The coffee was old and barely lukewarm. We asked for replacements. One would think that the kitchen staff would try to make up for their two errors and at least provide us with fresh replacements. Nope. They probably microwaved the first two cups. I did not drink mine. This restaurant claims to be rated among the top 100 in the country. We certainly expected better service and care worthy of their New York City prices. I've worked in the hospitality industry for over 40 years and would never disrespect customers like that, especially when they chose my restaurant for a special occasion. So yes, I was disappointed. Would we give Chateau on the Lake another chance? We have so many wonderful choices in Saratoga and Albany (which would have been the same distance). Maybe.

I had the frozen huckleberry lemonade adult drink special which was very tasty, although a bit challenging to drink for a bit (it was too frozen). My son got the chicken nuggies with fries. It came out hot and fries were crispy. Actually everything came out super fast as they had just opened and maybe they weren't too busy. I ordered the pretzel sticks with queso. Similar to my brother who got the nachos, there were diminishing returns in that it was better while it was warm and while the texture of the cheese was better. The pretzels were very salty. My sister-in-law enjoyed her chicken sandwich. The clam chowder and the steamed clams were fantastic. I'd highly recommend the soup and the shrimp dish that my wife had also wasn't bad. The cold lobster roll for $35 was not worth it in my opinion as it was more of a lobster salad. The view is fantastic here and the vibes are pretty good so overall a worthwhile stop if you are in the lake George region. But it is important to keep in mind that this on the nicer side and prices are correspondingly higher.

It wasn't bad, but it didn't have much flavor. I think we were also missing tartar sauce, which could have helped. But the fish should've been a standout on its own. Forgot to take a picture, but saw that other reviewers had similar experiences with this dish. Shrimp tacos were a lot better. I would've liked more char on the shrimp, but I liked the cabbage and slaw and the sides of the chipotle crema and tbe guacamole. Would still go back and would still recommend, but probably not the fish point.

After already visiting Caldwell's and Dr. Brown's Pub, La Bella Vita was our final stop for dinner. The setting is absolutely lovely, and I can only imagine how spectacular it must be in the summer overlooking Lake George. Even in the winter, it felt warm and inviting, and the dining room was pleasantly busy. Our meal was very good and satisfying. We enjoyed the prime rib, and our friends ordered a pasta dish -- everything was flavorful and nicely prepared. We truly had a nice evening. The only small disappointment was that the lunch menu on Friday and Saturday in the Caldwell was the same exact menu for dinner in La Bella Vita. There were only a few entrée options, including sandwiches and pizza that we had already tried. We may have been expecting something a bit more grand or elevated for dinner. That said, overall it was a very nice experience. Prices are on the higher side, but that's to be expected at a beautiful resort like this. We're grateful for a lovely weekend and look forward to returning.
