Adam continuously checked in and was able to fit in additional requests we had that were not originally part of the plan (and responded to our daily text messages almost immediately!) This owner from topaz is an asshole. I paid him $70k + To do a pool in my yard. Work came out amazing. Problem is 2 yrs later I have a sink hole in my yard and when I call him he is asking why the fuck am I calling him.... I contracted thru you so technically it's your responsibility I don't care you subbed out that part. He is a piece of shit. He knows who I am. Results look generally good, but we caught them several times being dishonest with us. Every conversation with the owner feels like a trip to the used car lot, not sure he's even capable of giving a straight answer. We had several legitimate problems on our project...some directly with Topaz and others with subcontractors they strongly steered us to use. They are nice to work with at first, but if you raise concerns or complain about something (even if completely valid), they become confrontational very quickly. Beware of Topaz, there are tons of other great companies on Long Island that do landscape design...no need to put yourself through a mental torture chamber. read more

I can't say enough about the wonderful backyard renovation and landscaping I received from Topaz Landscaping Design. I am absolutely thrilled with my yard now. I am very fortunate to have stumbled upon this wonderful company. For the past 12 years I have been living with a backyard consisting mainly of broken down driveway asphalt, weed-covered pavers and overgrown plants. I tried to redo the yard on my own but it was just too much for one person. There was no real design and I was embarrassed to have anyone see my yard. Finally I decided it was time to make my dream of a backyard paradise a reality. I searched around for landscapers and masonry contractors before finally coming across Topaz, who does the entire job including design, selection of plants, masonry and landscaping. For me this all in one service was ideal! I didn't know beforehand that they also do pools, which was an added bonus, as most of my yard is taken up by a pool and it was great to find someone who understood them and could design for them. In the initial design consultation, Adam came out on time as scheduled (which was a good first sign) and really listened to what I wanted. He ran the numbers and told me what was possible within my budget. As this was my first landscaping project, I didn't really know which stone I should choose and Adam made it easy, providing me with catalogs and identifying the choices that would fit within my budget. I was able to go to the mason shop and see the stones in person. There were so many choices at the store that I couldn't decide which stone would be best and in the end, I trusted Adam's recommendations for both the stone and the plantings. The trust was well-placed. He had his crew come out as soon as possible to start the job. They arrived each morning at 7 am as scheduled, and worked really hard to get the project done. I was just amazed! They completed the job while I was away on vacation and when I got home, I was just delighted with the transformation of the yard. I now have my backyard paradise and can be proud to have anyone over. What most impressed me were the attention to detail, the professional quality of the project and crew, and the speed at which the job was completed. As I walked around marveling at the plants and different garden areas that Topaz had created, I could see that Adam had really listened. All of my favorite plants were incorporated in his design, and the colors and varieties were unbelievable. It looks like I will have something blooming all year around. He also had a sprinkler system installed, and created a gorgeous rock pathway back to the pool pump and behind the pool house. And I now have a lush green lawn with a pathway from the deck to the pool where there once was ugly broken down asphalt! My yard looks really big now too, whereas before, it just looked cramped and overgrown. Everywhere I looked in my yard, I found new surprises. Adam incorporated the small yard decorations that I already owned into the new design, making everything work in harmony. His crew even re-routed my inconvenient water hose hookup to the outside of the deck, making it really convenient to use; cleared out my front and side yards so I could start fresh; advised me on a fencing contractor and had his electrician come out to fix the problem I was having with my pool pump. Crazy as it sounds, I felt as if I'd found a landscaping angel as he was looking out for every detail. Long story short - I got a wonderful landscape design and installation at a fair price, they showed up when they said they would and worked within the budget. They bent over backwards to make my dream of a backyard paradise a reality. I LOVE my yard now and I am a huge fan of Topaz. I will be calling when it's time to do the front yard. My Family Home exterior was well kept mostly original from 1961. It was time for a full transformation. I interviewed several professionals and visited previous work sites and current work sites. Topaz had nothing to hide and showed me who they are and what they do. Topaz sat down and discussed design. We had some ideas and Adam from Topaz truly made it extraordinary. This was a huge job with every inch of the property being removed, and every inch being installed new and fresh. Driveways, walkways, stoops, garden beds, retaining walls, patios, lawns, bushes, trees, flowers and most importantly... a full transformation of outdoor life. Recently had our front yard landscaping completed by Topaz and are so happy with the result, it has completely transformed our home! Adam and his staff were terrific to work with, he understood from our very first conversation what our vision was so much so that we only made one change on the rendering he came to our second meeting with. As far as price, we had met with a couple of other design companies and the overall quotes we received were all in the same ball park but what was included varies greatly with Topaz providing the best value and design. The team that installed were very professional, prompt and tidy. This is a company that cares and takes pride in their work so much so that they wanted to ensure our existing sprinkler system would provide the right amount of water to our newly planted flowers/shrubs that they moved sprinkler lines and added additional ones without adding on to the cost of the job (others we met with told us we would need to engage their irrigation team to do that and would be a separate cost). We could not be happier- we hope to work with them again when we do other projects at our home and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to refresh their outdoor space! read more

That was the host hysterical meeting ever! I called to see if someone could come out and give an estimate on backyard patio redesign. Adam came out a week or so later. When he arrived he called to say he was there. He was 20 minutes early and I wasn't home yet. I tried to call him back but it went to vm so I texted saying he could start taking measurements until I return. When I got home he was still in his car. His huge car. I say this now, but will explain why I am mentioning this later. He started out his pitch ok. He seemed to understand the look we wanted. Then he said that we should send him our home specs from when we closed on the house. I thought this was odd. Very odd. Why wouldn't he simply take measurements now? Why wouldn't he measure out the spaces I needed worked on? Then when I mentioned that I have some ideas sketched out inside and I would get them, he told me to wait a moment. And said... "just for the work that we discussed so far I am going to say it will run you 40-50,000". So if that's in your budget you can go get your drawings. I was thinking there had to be something wrong. Why would he quote me something--without measurements--and come in MORE THAN DOUBLE 3 other quotes we have gotten so far? When I asked him, his response was that "It's me!" Like, he's so amazing I should be thrilled to pay him $50,000 to do a $18,000 job! Absolutely bonkers! I will not be paying for his fancy truck, or his $20,000 watch (yes, really), or his oversized mcmansion. (that one is just a guess). Sorry dude. That pitch will keep me laughing for days. read more

Adam Jr. is a great person and a pleasure to work with. The crew are professional, neat, quiet and always cleaned up at the end of the day. Everyone from beginning to end was professional. They showed up every day until the job was complete (which is very important) Adam Sr. always responded to any concerns or issues and always made sure I was happy with the project. I am also a perfectionist and expect a lot from the people I ask to work on my house. I highly recommend them for any project. Any negative reviews posted on google are unwarranted in my opinion and probably speak more about the customer than topaz..... I would think twice about using the Cambridge pavers. this is just my opinion and has nothing to do with Adam or Topaz.. The Cambridge rep is not a nice person... Adam and his team are the real deal. From the initial appointment making with Ann Marie to the consult with Adam to the actual day of reconstructing my yard, were all seamless. Adam knew exactly what we wanted by just meeting us and looking at our yard. We had weeds on steroids and unruly plants/trees all over without any knowledge of how to proceed to making it a place we would like to enjoy. Do your research before you commit to TOPAZ. Although they have great reviews, Adam is only looking for ways to get more money out of you without you realizing it. They over charge for work that you can probably get another company to do or even do yourself for 1/3 of the price. I learned the hard way and am still waiting for something I paid for. I wish I had better things to say since the quality of the work that was actually done was good but not for the premium price they charged and unfortunately they screwed us by asking for more money to complete a project that was paid for in full. Work ethic, respect and consideration is lacking and at the end of the day that trumps everything. read more

Topaz Design Group exceeded our expectations! When Adam told us he could transform our dated backyards into a private sanctuary we were excited but somewhat skeptical. This was a big job (pool, kitchen, pergola, fireplace) all on top of a brand new patio with landscaping and accent lighting. We had eight crews of tradesmen (all recommended and supervised by Topaz) working over several months sometimes together in a confined space without an issue, everyone was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. No matter the concern or the question, Adam and AnnMarie were always there for us and we cannot thank them enough. Our only regret is that we started in the fall and now have to wait until the spring to jump in the pool. read more

To answer Ann Marie's "C.Y.A." response to my original review...Yes we feel and believe that Adam DID rip us off and take advantage of our emotions and yes, they did recommend a landscaper to us to maintain our property that we have been using for the past 7 years. This landscaper that they recommended is amazing, and he maintains and treats our property like it is his own and has been doing so for the past 7 years since we hired him. He has NEVER stopped working for us and we consider him our friend! This landscaper goes above and beyond anything we request and is excellent at what he does. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great person...and...he did not EVER call us "difficult"! That is what someone says when they get a truly honest review on YELP of their poor business habits and tactics. Of course Ann Marie wants to turn things around but anyone reading her response should be even more cautious when thinking about hiring her company to do any kind of work. Adam and Ann Marie badmouth customers, (the people who help to pay their bills and send them on vacation) and are putting customers down and believe that doing so makes them and their business look better. Buyer beware! For the prices they charge they should even be able to handle what they call "difficult people"... they should know that people who spend the kind of money they are asking and charging customers want what they are paying for and don't want to be treated badly. Adam and Ann Marie act as if customers needs are unimportant and all they want is the money and lots of it. They look at the size of your house (we have a brand new construction colonial) and Adam saw $$$$. Apparently we are not the only people out there that feel this way about him and Topaz...(see Jessica M.'s review of 8/7/2017). Ann Marie's response to her AGAIN blames the customer and then makes it appear that the customer had a "situation" instead of taking responsibility for their bad business practices. If I were looking for a landscape designer now, I would seriously consider the negative reviews ahead of the positive ones. Our original review was to help others make educated choices on hiring a landscape designer and for no other reason. I wrote my original review 8 months ago and Ann Marie is only looking at it now? Why...it is the time of year people are shopping for landscape designers. Instead of her being apologetic and compassionate, she is extremely defensive and nasty...that is how they run their business and she just proved that in her responses.
