I had a long running ghost in the machine issue with my 2018 Prius C affecting a bunch of electrical systems. The rearview camera would get static, or wouldn't turn on at all but the audio source controls on the same display would sometimes work when the rearview camera didn't. Other times neither would work and still other times both would work perfectly. Sometimes the car wouldn't shift into reverse or drive on the first try, but other times it would shift into gear right away. My regular shop didn't handle electrical issues and the electrical place the recommended didn't service EVs, and the dealership wanted to keep the car for hours. So, I brought the car to Maras at EV Car Repair - he made time for me before he left on vacation and he diagnosed and fixed everything quickly while I waited for $80 + the cost of the part. They also work really late which makes getting your car fixed even easier. He was open until midnight the day I went so I didn't have to rush back after my trip to AutoZone. I cannot recommend them enough!

We brought our Prius here so the potential buyer could pay for a pre purchase mechanical inspection and hybrid battery inspection. The results were actually very positive. The mechanic confirmed the car was in excellent condition and that the hybrid battery was in great shape. For context, our asking price for the vehicle was below the recommended Kelley Blue Book value, which is the standard reference most people use when pricing used vehicles. However, instead of sticking to the inspection we paid for, the mechanic (a tall, very thin man working there) inserted himself into the price negotiation between us and the buyer. He asked what we were selling the car for and then told the buyer we were "way overcharging" and that he could find the same car for a third of the price. He even made the ridiculous claim that for the price of our Prius you could buy a Tesla Model 3, which is simply not accurate for comparable vehicles and only added confusion for the buyer. That is completely inappropriate. We paid for a professional inspection, not for him to sabotage a private sale. What made this even worse is that after undermining the sale, he began promoting vehicles from his own shop to the buyer. At that point it became obvious there was a serious conflict of interest. The same person being paid to inspect our vehicle was actively steering the buyer away from it and toward cars he had available. The shop itself also had numerous partially disassembled vehicles and EVs scattered throughout the property, which only made the situation feel even more questionable given what had just happened. Because of his interference, the buyer became nervous and ultimately backed out of the purchase. A mechanic's job during a pre purchase inspection is simple: report on the condition of the vehicle. It is not their role to interfere in negotiations or push their own vehicles on the buyer. If you are considering bringing a vehicle here for a pre purchase inspection, be aware of this behavior. What should have been a neutral inspection turned into a mechanic actively interfering with a private sale for his own benefit. I would strongly recommend going somewhere else.

Sure enough, my truck ran like junk with the new IDM and the crappy Dorman harnesses. I had it towed to them where they said it wouldn't be a problem to put the Ford ones on. After a few days there, they said that one of my brand new injectors was bad and needed a new solenoid, so I paid for them to fix that as well, since I wanted the truck back in 100% working order. After a few more days, I was told it was ready, so I went to pick it up. It was smoking like a chimney and stumbling, so I told them that I was not comfortable taking it back without it running properly. The guy agreed to keep it and get it running. A few days later, they said it was ready again. I went down there to get it. It was running better, but still not normal. I was told that it was smoking because the injector was pulled and it takes awhile for the fuel to burn off, which is a legit excuse, but it was still hesitating. They said it would work itself out once it got about 100 miles or so on it. Well, I drove it to Fontana and back and it had way low power, it was sucking fuel down at an enormous rate, and it was blowing out white smoke all the time. I popped the hood to inspect things when I got home and it was still using Dorman harnesses, plus 3 valve cover bolts were missing and it was leaking oil because of it, and one of the clamps from my air intake was missing. I took it back and they now said there was a short in my wiring harness, that the mechanic must have forgot to put the bolts back in, and they admitted to breaking the intake clamp. They said they would order me another harness, but they are hard to find for a 2000 7.3, but they said they found a good one. A little over a month after initial drop off, I finally got it back. It ran good up until about 65 mph, when it started down shifting like crazy and redlining until it got back below 60. I figured that maybe something went wrong with the refurbished computer that I had just installed prior to dropping my truck off there. When I went to pull the computer and put back my original PCM, i noticed that they had taken my brand new one and replaced it with a used computer from an 03 Econoline van, according to the PCM code and markings written on it. Once I installed my old computer, it could finally go freeway speed, but the overdrive light would flash during city driving. I eventually retrieved my stolen PCM from them and put it back in, but still had the overdrive light problem. I did also realize that they had, for whatever reason, also removed the rubber gasket that holds the PCM and the connector to the firewall, which explained the wind that I felt on my leg while driving. After some lengthy diagnosis, I found the problem was that the "good" harness they installed has a short somewhere in the alternator power wire. I bypassed the wire and that solved the overdrive light issue. While diagnosing that, I began inspecting all the connectors in that "good" harness and it's a joke. Valve cover connectors have insulation missing and he tabs that lock them in place are broken. The ICP connector is frayed (i had put a new one on my old harness, same with the fuel bowl heater connector). The EBP sensor harness is frayed. And the engine oil temperature sensor harness is frayed. I would highly advise going to another location for repairs. What should have been a day repair turned into month long nightmare that just keeps giving me more headaches.

This truck is a workhorse and I use it to haul loads of gravel and soil for construction. Last month, I had an attempted break in that immobilized the truck. I had it sent on a flatbed to my local Ford dealer. They took 2 weeks to tell me that it needed a full fuel system replacement for $19k. They did a recall and charged me $500 for a diagnostic.I absolutely could not believe the truck needed this much work, so I took it to Diesel Tune for a second opinion. George and his guys looked over the truck and plugged in the OBD2 reader. They couldn't find anything wrong with the truck and they even check over all the fluids for contamination. We ended up doing a full 50,000 mile service with filters and fluids replaced along with some additional consumables. The total was $2600 and all the work was done diligently on time. I gave the dealer an earful and they refunded the money they charged me for a diagnostic. Diesel Tune has my business for life. I would give George and his team more stars if I could.

What followed…read morewas a long, expensive performance art piece about how many times the same job can be done incorrectly. Highlights: Rack and pinion replaced FOUR times. Not "adjusted." Not "revisited." Replaced. Four. Times. And somehow it still wasn't right. Still feels like I'm driving a haunted house, full of surprises. Alternator replacement done with the flair of a minimalist. As in: the car left with one belt installed on a dual-belt system. Someone decided "one belt is plenty!" it's a bold, eco-friendly statement. Experimental? Sure. Functional? Only if you're into spontaneous roadside adventures. And once I decided to replace the belts myself the tensioner was missing from the assembly. Every time I'd take it in for something routine it'd come out with an additional issue. It's like a subscription box, but for mechanical failures. Warranty work that exists mostly as a concept. Multiple issues that were supposedly covered had to be chased repeatedly, re-explained, and in some cases paid for again just to get the car back. If you enjoy learning the fine art of "following up" on work that was already warranted, you'll feel right at home. The real magic is that none of this was framed as uncertainty or troubleshooting. Each visit came with confidence. Confidence is doing a lot of work here. At a certain point you stop being frustrated and start being impressed. Four rack-and-pinion attempts suggests either: 1. a deep commitment to learning by repetition, or 2. a philosophical rejection of "fixing" as a concept. Either way, I now know more about my car than I ever wanted to, which is great, except I paid someone else to know those things. If you enjoy returning to the same shop repeatedly to fix the same problem while being told this time it's definitely sorted, you'll love it here. If you want your car repaired correctly the first time or even the second time, and have warranty work honored without a prolonged correspondence, I'd recommend literally anywhere else. Including YouTube, a flashlight, and a ratchet set.

Shortly after, Allen called me and said he could only provide an estimate after inspecting the vehicle. I was shocked by the unprofessionalism. I calmly replied, "Excuse me, sir, please show some respect. I haven't disrespected you; I am just asking for your standard pricing for this service." He then yelled, "You don't tell me how to run my business!" At that point, I decided to take my business elsewhere.
