I'm on a journey to find my go to nail spot, and unfortunately this is not the one. After checking out nail salons in the natomas area, I came across top star that seemed to be one of the higher rated nail salons with promising reviews. There were a few red flags that I should have paid attention to. I called on a Saturday morning, the weekend of labor day. I asked if they had morning appointments and the woman said yes, and didnt ask for my name when I confirmed what time I wanted to come in. Upon arriving, there was absolutely no other customers there, which i assumed was because of the holiday. I asked if she was able to do gel x, and she confidently said yes. I've gotten gel x done for years, so I know each step of the process. Upon choosing the sizes for each nail, the first sign she wasn't confident with gel x was she didnt buff out the gel x extensions. Then when it came to applying the glue for the gelx nail, she didnt have the correct light, not allowing it to cure correctly to my nail bed. I had about four nails that had air bubbles in them, or were lifting on the sides. I normally dont speak up, however I didnt want to get water under my nail and get an infection. So i asked if she could remove them. They easily popped off, which showed they weren't applied correctly. The woman doing my pedicure, bless her heart, was VERY slow. At this point I was just ready to leave. I ended up just getting clear polish on my hands and feet, and still ended up paying 90 dollars (10 was tip because somehow I still felt bad ). I understand she had to use the supplies but I dont think I should have left the salon paying 80 dollars, when the employees were not capable of what i asked for before sitting down. I will not be returning and hoping I can find my forever nail salon soon. read more

Absolutely Terrible. I went in at 2:30 on 03/27/26 and didn't leave until 4:30. I originally wanted the first design, but the lady clearly could not achieve that even after being told she could. She said because there is more design it would be $10 extra, which was totally fine with me. After finding out that she could not fulfill the original design, I decided to change it to hearts. The lady replied OK now I know what to do and proceeded to do her own design with hearts. The hearts were randomly placed as you can see, and she didn't even match the hands. After I paid, I went to grab food and looked down at my hands and saw that the hearts were smudged. I then called them back and said that the hearts were smudged and over the phone. She said that the acrylic must've not dried all the way. I go back and point out where it's smudged and she proceeds to tell me that the acrylic was dry. I told her that I know that the acrylic was dry, but as you can see, the hearts are smudged. She continued to gaslight me and say that they were not and after 10 minutes of going back-and-forth, she finally sat me down to change it. I told her what I specifically wanted, and she proceeded to tell me she could not do that because then it would smudge. I asked her why the other hand was perfectly fine, and this one was not, and she did not reply. I should've took it as a sign that there were no other customers and when she applied their acrylic, my nails were burning. The nails are also extremely bulgy and they have bubbles in them. This is a reasonably priced, moderately appointed nail salon. I'm no stranger to nail salons and while I wasn't offered a drink when I came in (as is the new trend), I was pleasantly surprised by the service. All the workers were friendly and I was immediately greeted when I came in. Michael is the one who did my pedicure and he gave me one of the best foot massages I've ever had! I went and got a pedicure here and the man that did it did an awful job. He left my toe nails pretty long, my big toe nail is really crooked, and the sides of the toe nail are missing gel polish. I got the treatment with callus remover and he barely scrubbed, my feet do not feel any better than they did before I went in. It was dead, so I not like there was a rush. Terrible dip. I went in Friday 6/19 first day open after quarantine orders and it was also my birthday so thought I'd treat myself. I've been doing dip at home (paid about $30 for my home dip set and they last at least 2 weeks) so I figured a salon would do better...well save yourself your money and do them yourself. It will be cheaper and last longer. They looked good right after I left the salon but Friday night they looked dual. Saturday they were already chipping and cracking. These pictures I took today Monday morning. A $40 dip set should last longer than a few days. I can't imagine if I actually worked or did house work they wouldn't even last a day....I'm pretty upset about it. I also got a pedi and that was fine. Just stay away from the dip service. read more

I've been happy with this place. they do a decent enough job on the two pedicures I got there. Their prices are decent. They also seem to have some regulars who love getting their nails done there. They do have the best massage chairs of any nail salon I've been to. When you sit down, just power on the massager, and let it run on its own. Top Star Nails has the best nail lady in sac! Her name is Kaitlyn and my lady has been going to her for years! This nail salon is located right next to CF Cheng and Kovars Karate on arena blvd and Truxel! It's a great location because it is busy for business and there is great food right next door in CF Cheng and Bangkok Garden... two of my favorite places! Inside is neat and clean.... they have all the massage chairs for customers who want a pedicure.... they have 2 flat screens on the wall for your entertainment! When I am waiting for my lady, they allow me to sit in the massage chair and chill!! Kaitlyn is very talented when it comes to nails... she does gel, full set, pedicure, and even eye brow waxing. I decided to get a gel manicure on a whim one afternoon and decided to come here after a salon nearby was booked. I should've waited . This place is a pretty typical setup - Pedicure and nail stations opposite sides from each other. A young man did my nails and while he was wearing a mask, it wasn't covering his nose. I did not find this place exceptionally clean, nor the manicure process. The nail tech had me soak my nails in the same bowl he put my cuticle clippings. The gel manicure lifted within a week. ONE WEEK! I wasn't extra hard on my nails, it just wasn't a good job. After one week I'm left with the decision - do I now take off all my gel polish, or possibly buy the same color and just paint over it.. lol. Smh. Let me make those decisions after 2 weeks ugh. I will not be returning. This place is just a little outdated for me and considering getting my nails is a self care "treat" I'll gladly pay more somewhere else for a better experience. read more

Originally this place was 4 stars, however it's been 1 week since I got a gel manicure needless to say I'm not impressed. Looking back I should have known better and listened to my gut when I walked in. If you're looking for chaos and confusion along with less than professional dress by some of the employees along with the very young lady who did my nails never once changes gloves between another client she was working on. I could get over most of it but not the fact of having an entire gel coat of polish literally peel right off. So basically the 21 day gel polish is not worth it, sorry but I'll be taking my money elsewhere. read more

Horrible place. Don't waste your money and time. I went three times there. Pedicure was very poor quality. Gel polish tipped off in next hour. For my manicure, she kept repeating on the same set. I even asked to change it after sixth week and Kathy mentioned no need to change it and guess what she charged me the money as if I have full set done. No colors available the one I wanted to have. She keep giving the one she liked. She made cuts on my three fingers while doing the manicure. I will never go back there. read more

Kathy who happens to also be the owner did my nails. Also very detailed oriented, and gentle. I have pretty wide and curved nail beds but Kathy was able to shape my nails to my liking. I don't get my nails done often and usually when I do I get them done in South Sacramento. However, I was in the area so I got them done here. Right away I was greeted by the youngest girl (she looks maybe 18). She immediately called for a woman who was in the back. She came out and told me to take a seat. I was surprised that I didn't wait at all when I came in. I was asked what color I wanted and shape and she started right away. She was very polite and I didn't get that negative feeling where they talk about your nails with their coworkers; let's face it, many places seem to do that. She finished my nails very quickly but did not sacrifice the quality. My only critique would be the price was kind of high for what I asked for. I think the places I usually go to would be about $20-$30 cheaper, which is a lot not including tip. I always tip so I feel with the tip included, it was sort of too expensive. Still, I would return solely based on the customer service and the atmosphere. I didn't get the name of the lady who did my nails, but she was wearing a sun dress, had shorter black hair, and told me how she gets cold very easily in the shop - weird details, I know. Decided to try this place out because my usually nail lady from the other salon was not available and because every review on here was raving about kaylin. I got my usual gel manicure with a nude color and some 3D flowers. Kaylin did an awesome job! My mani looks clean, professional, and no pain at all! I wanted to also get a pedicure, but they were about to close and I didn't want to be that annoying customer. Kaylin was so sweet and her husband was nice and welcoming.
