We are staying in the apartment building next door, so when my husband saw our proximity to a place that proudly declared "donuts" on the side, he mentioned about thirty times we would be going there the next morning. Top Pot has a really cool decor, with floor to ceiling bookshelves and gorgeous lighting. I love the height and narrowness of the building, and the fact that there is also floor to ceiling windows, giving these beautiful books a lot of light. We found ourselves wishing our city had something like this, and realized if it did we would spend a lot of time hanging out there. The service was incredibly friendly, and the line passed quickly. The donuts themselves were really filling, and had the consistency of bread, something that has been lost in our sugar saturated mass production donuts. They tasted like something that someone has baked, rather than something that came out of a machine. I feel like I've only found this type of dough consistency at very small, locally owned places so to see it at a large, multi location establishment was really cool! The ambiance, donuts, and coffee (I didn't even mention the coffee yet!) were all amazing. If this was available to us we would definitely spend time here, so if it's available to you I think you should! Can you imagine how much I wanted to go to Top Pot? Our hotel was less than a block away. Every day we drove by...I would look on with longing. We finally swung by the last morning in Seattle. I suppose I expected an enormous display case with donuts (less than $2 each I think) as far as the eye can see. I was relieved that it wasn't an intimidatingly long list of choices--making the selection process an easier one. There was no time to spare because it's another busy day. The raspberry ring I chose was made with real fruit bits. Not only was it visually-pleasing, it was just so delectable for the taste buds. This was my first time having a fruit-glazed donut. It didn't appear fried--probably baked (?). It was not the least bit greasy. I want another! This surprises me. Why won't more donut shops make them? The Belltown location of Top Pot is the first place I got my fix of this doughnut wonderland. Located on 5th Ave under the Monorail, Top Pot is an oasis in the middle of the urban core. The space inside is nice. There are bookshelves on the left that extend to the top of the building. Seating is available on the ground, as well as a staircase to a second floor of seating for more of a secluded dining experience. Just like the Bellevue location, there are a large assortment of donuts here. My favorite is the apple fritter. Expect to pay a little bit of a premium here compared with the doughnuts found at your local supermarket. Though the doughnuts are fantastic, the reason for giving a three is the coffee is not good. I tolerate the coffee since I would rather not go elsewhere for a cup. The flavor is a little acidic. It kind of has a citric acid taste to it that does not work. Thus, I would say to go to Top Pot for the doughnuts but pass on the coffee. Starbucks makes a better brew. read more

I really enjoyed my after lunch snack at Top Pot. The doughnut selection wasn't as great so late in the day, but we still got some delicious cake doughnuts. Cake doughnuts are my favorite! My husband enjoyed his coffee, but my favorite part of the place was the ambiance. I loved the natural light, the two story design, and the wall of slanted windows. After having gone on a donut binge in the Northwest during my vacation, it was very difficult to decipher where I went. To me, Top Pot Doughnuts was just another donut chain after having been to so many donut shops out here. The store was big with seating downstairs and plenty more on the 2nd floor. It almost felt like I was in a coffee shop/library because there were people just chilling up on the 2nd floor with their laptops or reading. When we arrived in the mid-afternoon most of the good flavors were gone and the rest of the flavors had a limited quantity so make sure to arrive early! From the pictures, there was definitely potential, but I couldn't say from experience. The donuts didn't stand out, but they were "good" still. No complaints in the quality. I fly to Seattle frequently, and TopPot USED to be on my must-stop list (downtown5th or Wedgwood) but I'm afraid I'm looking for a replacement. I usually buy two big red boxes to hump home on the plane. TopPot keeps surprisingly well; vacuum seal, freeze, then thaw/bake 190deg x15min/cool to room temp/enjoy for a taste of Seattle any time . I wanted to love this place after reading the reviews but I just didn't think the doughnuts were that good. I went with the Old Fashion and wished I had gone for a different style. It felt dry and crumbly. The main redeeming qualities were definitely the service. The woman working behind the counter was extremely nice and friendly. She really put a smile on my face and tried to help me decide on which doughnut to go with. I also really loved the aesthetic of this place. Daaaannnng, these cake donuts are good!!! I usually don't prefer cake donuts at all. They usually end up dry and make my donut binge miserable. Not the ones at Top Pot! The staff were very delighted to hear that it was me and Ryan's first time visiting. They suggested the original glazed cake donut, and we supplemented the tasting with the raspberry glazed chocolate cake and Oreo cake donuts. We also ordered regular drip coffee and Ovaltine latte. These cake donuts don't make your mouth dry and are quite the delicious treat. I really enjoyed the original glazed and raspberry glazed chocolate. It's not a skimpy amount of glaze, and the cakes don't crumble to pieces everywhere. Every bite is nicely dense yet soft and sends you into donut heaven. Drip coffee is great! Served to a nice, hot temperature that doesn't burn you but helps the donut go down smooth. The Ovaltine latte is a sweet surprise - and unique to Top Pot I believe. I'm usually not a latte drinker, but this was actually pretty good. So if you're into sweet drinks in the morning, this is a good pick. I will have to give 5/5 stars to that Ovaltine foam though. Brother-dearest and I went here in October (2012) when we were in Seattle because everybody we've asked who's been to Seattle told us to come here. I'm going to review this for my brother because I didn't really eat here aside from having a bite of what my brother had ordered. There were two locations I believe and we went to the bigger one. He has ordered the maple apple donut and then I believe a regular donut dipped in chocolate. I had their ice cream. I took a bite of the regular donut and it seemed pretty normal, nothing special. But the maple apple donut was a different story. This donut was pretty dense and so rich.. so much sugarrrrr... but it was pretty damn amazing. It was like I was eating an apple pie in a donut form. Really good- but I can only handle one bite. As for the ice cream.. I just ordered their vanilla bean and I believe it was over churned because scooping it with my spoon did not work out. The Salted Carmel old fashion has a good flavor, although I purchased it toward the later afternoon and it was just ok. By that time, the donut was soft, no longer had a fried crispness to it, and the frosting was no longer fresh. If anything, it could pass as a day-old donut. It was surprising how not fresh it was. But because it really did have a good flavor, I still give 3 stars. But if their donuts really lose it's fresh crispness that quickly, maybe they should consider making them throughout the day as opposed to just in the morning. Arrived in Seattle and looked for the closest coffee shop We decided Top Pot would be the one... I was not even expecting to get latte art but there was a beautiful rosetta poured into my cortado. After speaking with the friendly barista behind the bar I was given a little history about the brand and I was impressed to hear that they roast their own beans in the back of the shop.
