One of my favorite places. EVER. I used to live about three blocks from Top Pot and I watched with anticipation as the old tenant moved out and slowly, slowly, it transformed into a nirvana for doughnuts and doughnut related paraphernalia. The kicker for me was when the huge iron doughnut was hoisted onto the roof and I exclaimed as I was driving by. "IT'S GOING TO BE A TOP POT, IT'S GOING TO BE A TOP POT!" Great doughnuts, great coffee, great doughnuts, oh did I say that already? My favorite is the apple fritter...heavenly. Just try to avoid the weekends when it's over-run with dweeby parents, women with post-menopausal dykey haircuts, and screaming brats. One day we'll be reunited Top Pot. There is a simple rule when it comes to my idea of a good doughnut: get it glazed. And living by that rule, Top Pot has never disappointed me -- their glazed doughnuts, particularly the cherry blossom, are a little bit of sugary sweet heaven in my mouth. This is another place I always hit up when I'm going to visit my grandma... nothing says "I love you, grandma" like a cherry blossom glazed doughnut from Top Pot and some berry-flavored cream cheese from across the street at Grateful Bread -- it's totally a tradition in my family, and it's a delightful one. Maybe it's the sleep induced delirium but now I am quite anxious to see what it is like to combine the aforementioned cream cheese and cherry blossom glazed... I bet it's good! read more

Not impressed, so dry.. I had to dunk my doughnut into my coffee, (which I hate doing because I have floating doughnut left in my cup..) in order to eat it.. it was very dull. I thought this place was the best around when it came to doughnuts? I thought maybe it was the type of doughnut, so I ordered a half dozen to go. They're doughnuts. They're yummy, sweet, and too unhealthy to eat for breakfast (oops), but I don't think they're extraordinary. Coffee was decent. Tip #1: Most popular doughnuts (according to the cashier) - old fashioned and maple glaze. Tip #2: Fairly crowded, lively, and loud during the morning with families and children, but it cleared out by before noon. Tip #3: Enough tables and outlets to get some studying done! You know, doughnuts are truly a matter of personal taste. I know die-hard fans of Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donut, yeast donuts, cake donuts, butter-based donuts, and the list could go on and on. Personally, I don't really "get" Top Pot's doughnuts. They have always seemed to be about standard fare to me. Some of them are even a bit on the "dry" side. You know what else I don't get? Their item on the Seattle Foodie 100 list used to be the blueberry bar. They don't even make that one anymore. How the heck did they stop making something that was deemed to be the top 100 dishes in all of Seattle? I'll probably never know. I'd be happy to offer up a list substitution for one of their donuts to replace that blueberry bar, but I just haven't been very impressed with the creativity or the taste of their donuts. Being from Raleigh, NC, I grew up on Krispy Kremes, so I was a little unsure about the more cake-like Top Pot donuts. They had a very large raspberry selection, but after pestering my friends and the sales clerk for recommendations, I eventually settled on the Cinnamon Sugar Old-Fashioned and oh boy. It was GOOD. Soft on the inside, but with a nice chewy texture on the outside. It reminded me of a KK crueller, but not as soft, which I liked. Never really a fan of cake donuts, I would totally come here again. I have changed my mind. Also, the decor was pretty funky-awesome. There were books lining the walls and a nice warm, homey feeling. Perhaps I think that because it was cold and rainy outside and the Top Pot seemed like a little mini-oasis of awesomeness. Doughnuts that I can actually eat! Granddaughter and I came here for dessert after eating lunch up the street. A 15 year old HAS to have her donuts! She got a Bismark that was "Delicious!!!" I got a plain blueberry cake doughnut that was not very sweet, which is all I am allowed to eat. I had half and gave the other half to my granddaughter who also gave it her stamp of approval. I dig this place. I love the LA 50's style architecture. Square, big windows, car oriented. I dig the awesome freaking doughnuts. I like that I paid 2 dollars for a Bismark(Bavarian Creme as they call it) and I was full after. I liked the kids, I liked the energy. I loved the old time-y books on the walls. I loved it all! The only downside was parking is kind of hard on a weekend morning, but whatever you just have to go a couple blocks back. But that's a minor price to pay for awesomeness. I've been here twice in my life. One time was during the summer. I wanted to try their maple bar that I've heard about. They were out. I pointed out to the that being out was like Starbucks running out of coffee. I went there again today since I was I the area. "We're out of maple bars". I told them them about my experience. Their response was that I should come back during the week. That's great except I have a job. The manager really needs to pull his/ head out of their backside. Make more donuts. I don't get the hype. These are very mediocre donuts-- solid donuts, but nothing special or unique. The apple fritter was on the dense and chewy side. I'm not sure how frequently they make new batches, but I came in around 1 or 2pm and it tasted like day old donuts? Great for a donut craving, but expect good regular donuts and nothing particularly out of this world. Nevertheless, I loved the library ambiance and the service was very friendly. read more

Ordered a maple cake, lemon glazed old fashioned and 2 Seahawks donut holes. Get to the register, only the maple cake is in the bag? I'm the only customer in line, maybe 3 other customers in the store. Ok, get that figured out, guy helping us was replaced by someone else who completed the transaction. They weren't worth the wait. I probably frequent this place at least once a week. Their doughnuts are just sublime. Crispy coating, gently glazed and then FRESH, soft cakey dough on the inside. The chocolate cake glazed is my fav! The pink rainbow is a delight as well. I've never stayed to sit and eat my doughnut but the atmosphere is very chill. I actually went to a couple other places after finding this spot to see if their doughnuts really are the heaven in my mouth that they seem to be, and I can say that I haven't found anything better. My bff lives down the street from here and I come here often. Probably too often. But no matter... why haven't I reviewed this place? I don't know! I'm gonna remedy that right meow! I'm a fan of their unique ovaltine lattes as I've never heard or seen them any place else before. They have lovely donuts and a damn impressive variety of them too. I tend to stick with the old delicious standby and order a maple bar but to be fair, they make the biggest maple bar ever. At least it's big to me. Me likey. The staff is always super friendly when I get indecisive and I appreciate it. I like the neighborhood feel and all the families trekking in & out from ballet & soccer games to get their kids a sweet treat. Then they get covered in sprinkles and chocolate & I giggle. So sweet. I like Top Pot. It's a cool place with nice folk running it. The espresso is good and the donuts are deelish. What more do you need on a lazy Saturday morning? read more

To say that Top Pot is my church is probably an understatement. Driving down 35th Avenue on my way to go swimming I always pass by that giant brown "O" with a sense of solemn revery and adoration. The inside, made to look like the library of a very erudite WASP-ish man with a love of dim lighting, has always seemed inviting and cozy. It's pretty common to see fellow parishoners sitting, heads bowed over their laptop, partaking of the free wifi. If you grew up like me (and you probably, in reality, didn't since I'm sure you didn't hide old bowls of Jello in your dresser drawer like me) then doughnuts and coffee were de riguer fixings for after-Mass. And Top Pot has such delights, which border on sinful and salvation. The donuts are the cakey type, much heavier than their KK sisters, and have fabulous names like Pink Feather Boa and Cherry Blossom. The coffee, surprisingly, is very good too and refills on drip, if you are cheap like me, are discounted (you'll need it for that second doughnut). But like all lapsed Catholic-types, I don't come here that often. While TP is good and wholesome, it is frighteningly decadent and fattening. Some of the doughnuts taste particularly oily. And while I know that oil is an essential component of a doughnut, I don't want aforementioned oil to become part of my fat ass (sorry for that, mea culpa). So I only come here when I've been feeling particularly emotionally bad or culinarily lost, and of course, on holidays. Minus one star for very bad parking. At least I've heard there is bad parking. I have always found a spot in the lot, but that's because I must be....um...blessed. read more

I've heard that this place has the best coffee in town from people who would know a lot better than me. I think the coffee's great but I really go for the donuts. They have free internet, but it's pretty slow. Also worth noting: I have never seen a coffee shop with so many KIDS in it! Whether they come with their parents or drop by after school for a treat, the yougins love this place! The downtown location is much larger and cooler looking but this location is a terrific neighborhood coffee shop. read more

I volunteered to pick up donuts for the office this morning (happy friday!) I also got myself a coffee and apple fritter to make the drive to work a bit more sugary. My coffee was ok and the apply fritter was ok. Overall, better then a grocery store in quality of food. Service was ok, it'd be nicer if they had a bit more energy- might liven the place up a bit more. The wedgewood location has a lot of competition with Greatful Bread next door. read more

I think that this is my favorite Top Pot Location. (I have been to three different ones.) The donuts are yummy and the people are nice. There are always lots of kids around, which is good, because I love kids. Plus, I used to nanny close to here and it was a great place to go chill with the babies. I like the books that they have around as well as the open-ness of the ordering area. I work close to here, but try not to go tooooo often, because I just read the nutrition facts of the donuts online. Still, it's a great place to go for a treat. I went inside and ate at this location over the weekend. It has a great atmosphere. The tables are set up in a library, full of hardback books. I loved it. It's a cool store, nearby where I live with some great coffee, but all in all, more than I'm willing to spend on a doughnut that I just think is okay. Mostly I like the giant doughnut sign outside! My favorite is powdered sugar cake. If you don't like too sweet donught you should try it. Their americano and caffe latte are also awsome.

I've genuinely had better. We stopped in and grabbed a dozen to go for us and some friends. The doughnuts tasted like they were fried in older oil and a little too sugary for our tastes. This place is deserving of the hype. We don't eat a lot of doughnuts but now and then after a workout on a lazy weekend morning, these treats are the go-to. They have great options and a decent coffee bar. The mocha was surprisingly outstanding. I think my favorites here are the simple glazed or the maple old-fashioned but you will certainly find one (or 3) you like too. Worth the visit, even when it is crowded or super noisy; get them to go and drive down 2 blocks to the waterfront for a perfect morning. read more

We sat around eating and the place is really cozy. They have books you can read to kids and it is very kid friendly. I used to be a huge fan of this place. Going here after school almost weekly throughout elementary and middle school. So when I got the opportunity to work here during my freshman year in college it was a mix of nostalgia and excitement. I finally got to be someone who could give another little kid those special memories. But when I first began, something felt off. The management was very very aggressive. I did make mistakes on my first day (as expected of a noobie) but my supervisor Michelle made each one of my mistakes very clear to me and the customers I was assisting. I even spilled coffee on my hand, she did not ask if I was okay or if i needed help but simply tossed a rag to me and said "when you spill you clean it up". Michelle would still find many problems with how I did things, while I was open to critiques she was very blunt and still aggressive with how she presented them. I ended up crying at work once or twice. Management is just plain terrible. You can find cheaper, better donuts somewhere else. read more

I say this with no sarcasm or hyperbole, Top Pot makes the worst donuts I've ever had the displeasure to put in my mouth. I've given them multiple chances over the years but every single time, I'm shocked at how greasy they are, how dense they are and how the overly sweet glaze coats my mouth with unpleasantness. Then the stomach ache starts. I finally learned my lesson and know my donut desires will have to wait when I see that grease-laden circusy box. It's just not worth it. No, really, I hate these donuts with a passion not usually reserved for food and don't understand why people keep going here. But I'm also mystified by Pizza Hut's longevity. read more

We live near the Wedgwood Top Pot so it's convenient to walk over with our dog. Even though it's full of families with rambunctious kids and right on 35th with traffic, we like having our coffee out in the patio. Everyone is friendly. That is, everyone BUT the employees. I've yet to interact with anyone behind the counter who appears to want to actually help me. They're efficient (except when they give me the wrong order and act as if I'm to blame because they didn't hear me and didn't bother to confirm) but that's about it. I'm sure the screaming kids are unbearable but an attempt to give the rest of us some decent customer service would be much appreciated. If I have to deal with another sour 20something year old, we'll just go to Starbucks a block away. read more

Top Pot makes a pretty good donut. Fritters and old fashions are recommended. The coffee and espresso is really bad, it has a sour after taste. The drip coffee is really weak. The bars and cake donuts are not great (dry and lacking in flavor) but the icing is good. Mighty-O has the best donuts in Seattle. read more

This place is certainly overhyped - these are very average tasting donuts to me (nothing beats Blue Star in Portland, OR). Ordered the chocolate cinnamon sugar, and the blueberry and both were slightly dry without the fresh donuty goodness that one expects when waking up early to get the day's first batch of donuts. It's your choice... your butt. I will say that the peeps that tend to the holey rollers are a little on the grumpy side. I don't get it... they've got unlimited access to coffee and glazed old fashioned. I don't want a hug or anything... although that would be nice... but a smile, a nod, a good morning... those things are good too. The parking lot here is lame but the palm trees make up for it. I lived literally next door to Top Pot for 2 years and went in about 3-5 times each month. The people who work there are always super friendly and fun to talk to. I love their coffee. And the doughnuts are insane. Perfectly sugary and sweet. I love the old fashioned glazed and the apple fritter. I like the ambiance as well: like you're in an old library but you don't have to be quiet. Like Dan L. says, take advantage of the punch card; you get a free coffee after you buy 9 (I think). There is plenty of street parking in Wedgwood. Only downside: it gets SUPER annoyingly busy on the weekends. read more

I've mostly settled in to a routine for weekend hikes of: roll out of bed, get stuff together, stop and Top Pot (or Le Fournil), load up on food, go hiking. Sometimes I think I do this because I really like hiking, sometimes I think it's because I want an excuse to get Top Pot. Overall, these are some of my favorite cake doughnuts anywhere, and certainly in Seattle. Favorites are chocolate feather boa, glazed chocolate old fashioned, and pretty much any of the chocolate cake donuts. (yes, it's true that I like chocolate.) The apple fritter is quite good too. I'm less enthusiastic about their ring donuts - they're quite good but nothing special, in my opinion. The filled donuts are somewhere in between the ring and cake in terms of my enthusiasm. I like the ambiance of their shops a lot (more so downtown than Wedgewood). It works for getting things done, though for me, the warm-study-vibe is better as a nighttime place, something that doesn't work with their hours, unfortunately. Their staff has always been pleasant and patient while I slooowllly figure out what I want to order, even during Saturday or Sunday morning rushes when they'd be forgiven for being frazzled. I'd give them a 4.5 if I could - short of a 5 mostly because I'm not overwhelmed by the ring donuts and because I'm (unfairly) cranky that they aren't open later. read more

Some morning's, nothing sounds better than coffee and a donut. We're currently living down the hill from this location and so I figure by walking up the steep hill, I've earned the right to a donut :) I think overall, the place has great atmosphere. You get a nice mix of people working on their laptops, families and friends meeting for treats. Their coffee is quite tasty as well. I have tried three donuts at this point, the lemon filled, the vanilla glazed and the cinnamon old fashioned. The cinnamon won me over hands-down. Crunchy, super-cinnamonny outside with a perfect soft cakey inside! The vanilla was pretty good, but it just tasted like regular icing to me. Top Pot is my favorite doughnut spot. These babies are handcrafted and made with the incredible ingredients; when I see the raspberry icing my mouth instantly begins to water. This location is pretty great, it feels like an old school coffee shop. On weekdays you'll run into parents with their wide-eyed kiddos trying to decide between the pink sprinkled doughnut and a maple bar...or maybe that's just me. We have been going to Top Pot Donuts for years... since it opened. Every weekend during football season we buy the "Fan" Donuts. They are better known as the "Seahawk 12" Donuts. They used to have a deal 12 for $12. They changed it recently to 1.29/donut of the "Fan" Donuts. The last two weeks the employees haven't figured out regular math. 12 Donuts x 1.29 = $15.48. However; they claim that a dozen donuts cost 19.99. Why not buy individual donuts then? Maybe I'll do that next time? read more
