tried this place for the first time today and it was just-okay. ordered 2 donuts and 2 drip coffees. i actually liked my coffee better than my donut...it was a really solid cup of coffee and they had the GOOD oat milk. the donuts were genuinely kind of mediocre. i got my favorite (a cake donut with sprinkles) and i thought it was heavy and a little stale, texture was definitely a little off. my husband had a peach fritter which he liked, but it was so gooey on the inside but tough on the outside (not fluffy, crispy, or any of the textures you look for in a fritter). Food - tons of donuts even though we came around 10ish on a Sunday. I got one with a jelly center since they didn't have a glazed jelly filled. I dunno why but I prefer a jelly filled. This one was a little messy cuz we got them to go and it has to go in the bag. The jelly got all over the place. I also got a Beijing fog just to try to. Tea was maybe a little to o herbal-y for me. Wandered to this location on a cloudy Saturday morning. Their Boston cream donut was just the ticket on this day; perfectly fresh, smooth, and creamy. The only drawback was that the dirty Chai took a little bit of time. There was a bit of a line before I arrived, which may explain the time lag. Otherwise, lots of seating inside and out. Revisited Top Pot in Wedgwood with The Homie (8/14/17). It's been awhile with the giant doughnut and palm trees along NE 35th. More famillies here than laptop campers. Noticed different swag, updated counter seating, ice cream, custom coffee roasts, cool stickers and postcards, the rest looking a little worn but familiar. 4pm Monday, the pastry case is nearly empty. We snagged the last two maple bars and a Bismarck (chocolate glazed, custard filled) plus a 2% milk from the chill case. By the time we leave, there's only a scattering of just apple fritters and quick bread slices. How do teenagers consume nearly two maple bars and milk after a late lunch on Capitol Hill? Anyways, decent detour and realized the kindergartener who loved Top Pot doughnuts and the monorail overhead at the downtown/5th Ave site, will soon be high school freshman in a few weeks. read more

We were recommended to Top Pot Doughnuts by our Airbnb hosts, so one day we decided to take a little break from our day and stop by. I am a huge sucker for cake doughnuts, and this place does them pretty well! We got the cookies and cream doughnut, as well as a latte. While there was no issue with the doughnut or coffee, the staff there seem relatively unhappy and impatient in dealing with customers. Overall, decent menu items, interesting doughnuts, but the customer service was a bit lacking, making it a pretty okay (3 star) experience in my opinion. read more

We've been getting donuts at this location for years and after my visit today, I'm not sure if I will be returning. I blame the management because four visits out of five, I have been helped by a an employee who makes it clear that they would rather be somewhere else. Perhaps it's even worse now because of the shortage of employees. If you're desperate for a donut and don't mind slightly stale, pricey donuts and gloomy employees, go here. I will never, ever understand Top Pot. I keep thinking that perhaps I am trying the wrong thing, but after taking a taste of the boy's original glazed, I remain steadfast. I'd tried several samples from a variety box before. If you can't do a good original glazed, you probably aren't doing any variety very well. Top Pot isn't very amazing. How I heard of this place: Years ago I was introduced to Top Pot by my friend Sadiq, who would frequent the cafe for coffee and free wi-fi. Type of cuisine: Police fare: doughnuts and coffee. Also offered: tea, Italian sodas, other bottled sodas, salads & sandwiches from Mike's Deli. Ambiance: Cozy and warm, with books for all ages lining the walls, floor to ceiling. Light colored wooden furniture with classic 1950s fonts on menus and signs. What I ordered: Throughout the years, I have sampled most every Top Pot doughnut - from the Valley Girl Lemon to the chocolate rainbow, from the apple fritter to the maple and chocolate bars, from the pink feather boa to the lemon old fashioned to the Bavarian cream and the bullseye. On this trip, I ordered a single, tall, non-fat, white chocolate, peppermint mocha without whipped cream (which is homemade and fresh!). What I loved: The baristas take coffee seriously. Great care and attention are paid to the timing of pulled shots, the temperature of the milk and the fancy designs that are made each customer's coffee order. I love the sweetness of the mocha, without being overpoweringly sugary. The hint of flavor to enhance the smooth espresso in milk hot enough to warm, yet cool enough that it can be sipped and savored immediately upon pick-up. Why I loved it: The coffee is consistently fresh and served with guaranteed quality. The teas are loose-leaf, ordered locally and brewed to order (from Market Spice). Went to Top Pot (Obviously) this morning with my mom in the Wedgwood neighborhood and the store manager and the 2 young girls working behind the counter were super friendly, helpful and and knew way more about donuts than I thought any human could know about donuts lol. And obviously YES the donuts were incredibly good and super fresh. I got the Apple Fritter and the Lemon glazed old fashioned. Very good! And the coffee was spot on as well. Hiiiiiiighly recommend stoping by sometime at one of they're locations and chillin out for a bit w a donut and coffee or whatever and space out and people watch. It's relaxing trust me ha! We tried Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland and the hype is bigger than the quality, imho. I like a simple glazed ring so that the playing field is even for comparison and Top Pot is really great!! I used to be a huge fan of Top Pot Doughnuts. A weekend donut (yes, I prefer to spell it that way) and a relaxing few minutes on the rare sunny day was one of my favorite activities. However, I had not been to TP in a long time (as in 2-3 years) before going recently. I was not impressed. First of all, the prices have increased quite a bit (more than other food in my opinion). My 3 donuts cost over $9, which is a bit steep. There was also just something about them that felt not as good as the way they used to be. I have heard some people mention that TP has become too corporatized, and I have to agree with them. Donuts seemed less hand made, more like grocery store factory donuts. And for $9? No thanks. I will probably go back at some point but for now I'm planning to try some other places. read more

Our disappointment at the depletion of plain glazed old-fashioned doughnuts quickly gave way to joy as Michael K. and I sank our teeth into the glazed old-fashioned pumpkin. This pumpkin doughnut was absolutely delicious, with a pervasive flavor of pumpkin pie spice and a simple sugary glaze. The texture of this yeast doughnut was not what I'd call fluffy, but this was by design. The crumb was cakey without pores, but it was still light, as well as ideally moist and delicious. I would like to go back one day and try the regular glazed, but the pumpkin made our trip to Top Pot a success. We also got a Double Trouble, a chocolate cake doughnut with chocolate frosting. We didn't finish it. The crumb was dense and tended towards dry, and the doughnut was very rich but lacked the lush softness of good decadent chocolate. The thing just wasn't worth the calories. I'd stick with the fabulous and still cake-like yeast doughnuts at Top Pot. One thing I appreciated at Top Pot, and that I didn't recognize as important until the disappointment that awaited at MightyO, was that our doughnuts tasted fresh at 3 PM. While they might have been better earlier, they didn't lose enough oomph to staleness to become anywhere near unpalatable. The place was big and welcoming, with friendly staff and immediate doughnut gratification. The parking was a little squishy in back, but hassle was minimal and the pumpkin doughnut was excellent. I'd like to try more of Top Pot's range one day, but I imagine that if the pumpkin is available on a future visit, it will find itself in my stomach once again. read more

When you go to a top level doughnut place you kind of hope for a premium experience, especially when you are paying a premium price.
