It was most impressive that after playing a few notes on my baby grand, he knew right away that it was tuned in Well Temperament and asked if I wanted to keep the tuning system. I had a hammer repaired and tuning from Well-Tempered to Equal Temperament. My other baby grand received a standard tuning and Cobrun adjusted the action on the lower octaves so that they all play without sticking and resistance. Where to start? Robert has done 3 jobs for me in the past year. First, he setup an Epiphone 339…read morethat looked great but didn't sound so hot. After his setup it sings and is now my favorite guitar. Next, I gave him a VOX Guardsman amp that had some static issues. He checked and cleaned every connection. When I got it back it sounded clean and loud. Next, he did a repair/restoration of an old LP that I did not take a care of. He straightened the neck, installed new frets, gold hardware and tuners, adjusted the nut and polished the whole thing. Robert returned it to factory condition. The neck is straight and the action is sublime. The quality of Robert's work is very high and he is equally gifted with instruments and amps which is rare. Additionaly, Robert is really easy to work with, a great communicator and his rates are super reasonable. I am very glad I found him and will be bringing him more work. I've had some good repairs before but Robert and Smithway are the best I have experienced.
