They took close to five hours to tune an old rare piano with only 44 keys. In the process of finishing they were in such a rush that they chipped a piece of wood on the side and didn't reassemble it as it was. Don't pay for a cleaning. It's a total rip-off. The damage will undoubtedly diminish the value of the rare instrument. read more

Worse movers ever. Had a 1030 am appointment with them. Its now 1 pm and despite countless calls to their office and cell I have no response. I am now struggling to find a replacement mover. My wife tried to schedule an appointment to move a piano within the same the city limits. We tried twice, but both appointments were canceled because emergencies/illness with their laborers. While it is frustrating that they have no contingency plans in place, we are empathetic and understand that things happen. The real issue we have is that the first time they only called us after my wife hounded them with messages, hours after their scheduled arrival time. She rescheduled for the following week and, once again nothing but crickets at the scheduled delivery time. After about an hour, I started calling and texting while the 80+ year old lady on the starting end of the move texted and emailed, their was no answer to any of our attempts for hours. They called they wonderfully kind and patient woman who, as of this posting, still has the piano in her home. They never called me directly. I would like to speak to the quality of their actual service and the integrity of their quote, but we never got that far. If you can get them to show up, they may just be amazing. read more

Excellent movers. This is third time we've used A-1 piano to move our piano in 20 years. Each time they have provided excellent service. They are careful and quick. Point out any damage (nicks, etc) prior to transporting. Use blankets and straps. They are also careful in your home to not cause damage. We've had them store our piano between moves as well and been very happy. They check keys before and after. I recommend them highly and would definitely use their services again! read more

We rented a lovely black piano from A-1 over a year ago. It looks beautiful in our modern living room and is easily accessed by our family and visitors. (It's especially popular when other kids come over.) The delivery process was easy and the monthly payment was incredibly affordable. We've really enjoyed having it in our house. When we called to cancel the agreement, the team made everything painless. The piano was scheduled for pickup within 3 business days and the staff didn't try to make us feel guilty about giving the piano back. Two days before a scheduled piano move, A1 backed out saying someone had retired and the new hire couldn't do the job. I find it hard to believe they have no other staff who could step in and that they didn't plan well enough in advance for a move that had been scheduled for weeks. The place I am getting the piano from has closed for business and has been waiting on me to get the instrument out. I have been waiting on A1. They aren't waiting any longer. After being literally ghosted by another company last weekend, we were panicked that we weren't going to be able to get the piano out of our apartment and into our friend's home in time for our 1/31 move-out date. I don't usually take the time to review places, but I just wanted to say that Juan and Aaron did a fabulous job moving my mom's Steinway piano from San Juan Island back to the showroom in Bellevue. They arrived when they said they would, were fast, and knew what they were doing, I didn't watch them move the piano because I was clearing out my mom's home from an estate sale, but I suspect they were very careful with it. I felt horrible though because they missed the ferry back to Anacortes and didn't get home until late. But Juan called me to let me know that they made it back to Seattle later that night. Very grateful and fantastic service! David and Sasha were also wonderful when they came to the island to see the piano. They came when they said they would and were very knowledgeable and helpful. A-1's team moved two pianos for us last week. They were extremely careful, knowledgeable and professional.

Was "lent" a gorgeous upright that is more of a "decorative feature" than it is a piano. It's the centerpiece of every place I've lived in but the thing plays worse than a monkey with an African thumb piano. If you've ever moved a piano by yourself, you'll understand there's the idiot's way of moving a piano (ie. Lots of grunting, holding the piano by its legs, and screaming, "Whoaaa, whoaaa...no no no...wait! That's my foot!") and the professional's way of doing it. A1 is a professional in piano moving - and does only that - this means they come equipped with pads, dolleys and all sorts of contraptions specifically for moving pianos. The men are experts at navigating tight turns and whacky stairwells, and perform their duties with such ease that you'd never think their jobs - lifting and carrying extremely heavy objects - might put them at risk for hemorrhoids. Like most moving companies, A1 charges from the moment they leave their previous job or the warehouse till they finish the move. However, they don't mess around with driving around the block several times, taking your precious piano for joy rides. These guys drove from Wallingford to Kenmore and had the piano set up within 35 minutes. The only thing that nags at me - greatly - are the guys' asking for a tip at the end of the job, right when you're about to write the check or dig into your wallet. I've no problem tipping movers who do a great job (and I understand not everyone may feel that way), but the asking is tacky and makes me less willing to tip as much as I might want. A girlfriend who's also used their services feels the same way. First world piano problem, I know. read more

A-1 did an excellent job. The three guys who helped me were very friendly and courteous and did a great job moving my piano. We were only moving a short distance so I paid for an hour. It was $125. I tipped them $25 so it was $150 total. I never know how much to tip movers but since the move was so short and it was ground level to ground level I thought the tip was adequate. I would highly recommend their services to anyone in the area in need of piano moving services. I had to organize a piano move in a short time frame of just 48hrs. Not an easy task if you've never done it before. Being a beginner at this process, which it was, I used Yelp's piano mover listings as my base of reviews. I began calling each listing one by one. The process took several hours so allow yourself time if you want to go that route. I was able to get a hold of just two people to get estimates- the others I left messages. By the way, those people did not call me back. That is my biggest pet peeve with businesses. If they don't call me back, they never get my interest again. It's very unprofessional and honestly I don't know how they conduct business that way. I was able to physically talk to Bret at A-1 Piano movers. He was friendly, courteous and patient in answering all of many many questions. I gave him all the specifics which you should be prepared to answer before you make the call. Know the dimensions of your piano, the measurements of the doors it is going to go through, obstacles such as stairs, rugs, carpet vs hardwood floors, turns etc. In my case my back porch stairs are odd so he asked if I could email him some photos of it so he knew what exactly he would be dealing with. I thought this we very smart and there would be no doubt in communication this way. Describing what my back porch steps looked like was challenging enough. Photos cleared that all up. I promptly emailed him the images. By the end of the day the move was organized for Monday morning. I coordinated the move but could not be present so my boyfriend was the liaison between both locations. He said the movers called him ahead of the scheduled appt time to tell him they were on their way and were prompt in arriving. They got the piano moved out of the one house and into ours, just a short 2 miles away, all under one hour. He said it took them longer to write the bill than it did to move the piano into our living room! Wow, that is amazing service. I was so impressed with the swiftness of the move and the professionalism that was displayed on all ends of the spectrum. It takes a team to make things work and this team, worked! I'm glad I took the time to ask around about the logistics of moving a piano. Word of advice, don't mess with it on your own. It's worth the price for the piece of mind. At one point I debated borrowing a truck and getting some guy friends to move it. A pro piano player friend of mine gave me some really good advice that in hindsight I am glad that I took. He has used A-1 to move his piano 3 times. The movers knew what they were doing and because they are licensed and insured, I knew that everyone was protected from any accidents that could happen and that was of the utmost importance. Besides, you never really want to ask your friends to move a piano. What was I thinking! God forbid if anything happened. A-1 has the most reasonable rates as far as I am concerned. And I know because I did all the calling around and got all kinds of crazy rates. Bret was on the ball with communication which I greatly appreciate. I did not feel rushed or pressured while speaking with him on the phone. His knowledge and life experience shone through. These people moved my 6' grand piano over the weekend, and what initially looked like a bad experience turned out very well. In early January, I had called and arranged a move for the 18th at 2pm; however, when the time came and no one showed up, I called to get a status. I spoke with Bret, and it turned out that they had no record of my appointment. Bret contacted some of his crew who happened to be in my general area that day, and they were able to pick up my piano about two hours after the time I had scheduled. They delivered the instrument to my new place and got it set up to my satisfaction, and they gave no impression of feeling put out by having to deal with this on such short notice. From my point of view, of course, it felt very unsettling to have made an appointment and to discover at the last minute that it had been lost; however, the folks at A-1 Piano bent over backward to accommodate me--even though they really had nothing but my word that I really had called previously to set up the appointment. I wouldn't hesitate at all to use their service again or to recommend them to someone else. What I might suggest, though, is that if you use the A-1 Piano Movers, make sure you get a schedule confirmation by email or phone before the move date. read more

A-1 Deserves an A+ Not only did A-1 arrive on time and send three movers in an abundance of preparation, when they'd originally planned to send two, but they charged us LESS than what we were quoted. Wow! When does that happen?! Our console piano is not large (well, not large for a piano, I guess even a small piano is a big job), but it is somewhat unusual and has very delicate and ornate free-standing front legs. The A-1 movers had no trouble with this, they were quick, careful, smooth, and joked with my husband, which I'm sure he appreciated. Upright player piano from Magnolia to Everett. There is absolutely no way this job could have been done without experienced piano movers. These guys were awesome. Mike, Nolan, and Hill arrived at the site on time and ready to work. And boy did they have to. I was facilitating the piano move for my Grandpa's cousin, and I had no idea the mess we'd be getting ourselves into. Let's just say that my first cousin, twice removed (?) could be on the show Hoarders and we had to move a lot more than just the piano. They helped us move stuff out of the way and knew exactly which equipment (boards, pads) to use. They were professional, efficient, and didn't break anything, including the piano itself. Very friendly, easygoing fellas. As for the cost, I was quoted the correct rate for the use of 2 men and 3 men, with the understanding that they would try to use 2 and charge me that way if they could. They ended up using all 3 because of some tight turns and stairs that I did not know about. They charge from the time they leave their shop (or the last job) to the time they leave the driveway of the drop-off point. Because of the extra work at the beginning, they were 30 minutes above quote, but that was expected. It was $380 for 2 hrs and 15 minutes. It was more than I wanted to spend, but I felt that it was worth it for the amount of work it took. I wasn't able to give them as large of a tip as they deserved, so I am supplementing the tip with this rave review. read more

These guys did a fantastic job moving my Steinway from Renton to Phinney. They were quick, efficient, and careful not to damage the piano or my home. As Mike S. said, it takes special know how and equipment to move pianos. I'd be leary of using a regular moving company. Frank, I would have called the owner and tried to get the price reduced. I realize they charge by the hour, but getting stuck in traffic is unusual, so they might have taken that off your bill if you'd asked. My move came in right at the quote. Bottom line for me, piano got there safe and sound, they took the time to set it up exactly where I wanted it, and the cost was reasonable, considering it's a piano (not cheap to move in the first place). read more

I called around for estimates and they were really great over the phone. Professional, friendly and seemingly honest - wrong. They gave me an estimate of 1 3/4 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. I picked a time that I knew traffic would run smooth. I was never told that they would make stops along the way, which they did. I was also never given a clear story as to where they were starting the clock and ending the clock. Between the general manager, the drivers and the person I spoke to the clock either started from the shop or the moment they got to the door of the first pickup. Only reason I gave 2 stars is because they did move the piano very fast and made it seem extremely easy. (big reason of why I feel they overcharged) 15 minutes tops to get out of an apartment with stairs, and 10 minutes tops to get the piano into another apartment with stairs. Had they not made their detour, the drive should not have been over 30 minutes. I ended up paying them for an hour and a half, but they tried to charge me for 2 hours because they told me AFTER the fact that they started the clock from leaving the shop. I asked them while they were on the road where they were starting the clock, they said from the moment they get to my door. Make sure you get a clear version of when the start/end their time! read more

I love the A-1 piano rental program. I really wanted my kids to be able to take piano lessons and practice regularly at home, but I couldn't afford to buy a piano outright and I wasn't sure that I wanted one for the rest of my life. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I could rent a piano for less than what my daughter's clarinet costs! And with only $250 for the delivery and pickup, which I can schedule at any time, and a month-to-month contract, I can easily give the piano back if the kids get bored or I move. All I have to do is schedule the pick-up. Sweet! Bret, the owner, was very helpful in assisting me in getting the best-quality instrument in my price range. The delivery guys showed up right on time and quickly got the piano into position. The main delivery person, Hilario, was a true gentleman, going out of his way to help me move another piece of furniture out of the way. They were in and out in 15 minutes. Three movers came out to move my 6-ft grand piano from an apartment to a new house. They were courteous and very professional, clearly knowing how to properly move such a large item without any chance of damage. They were able to get the piano into a normal passenger elevator easily and had no issues with the stairs in the new house. They even pointed out that I was missing a couple screws on the piano, and had an extra lying around they they put in! My only issue was that it was difficult to get them on the phone to get a confirmation and pay a deposit - apparently a specific person was needed to take the payment, and it took multiple calls to the office before I finally found that person. read more

Amazing customer service! Brett, the manager, was extremely patient as we discussed moving a baby grand piano. The movers Hill, Mario,and Jason arrived on time and were AMAZING workers. They were very careful yet fast at the same time. Even though Brett had assured me that they would be able to do it, I was worried that the piano may not make it up a steep and narrow pathway around the house. Two enthusiatic thumbs up for this outfit. First, they were willing to take on additional work even when their schedule was crowded. I needed to get the piano into a U-Haul before I could put everything else in, on relatively short notice. Then the piano move was scheduled at the end of the day and traffic was backed up. So they were later than scheduled. But I knew that it was 5:30 and that traffic was bollixed up because of road construction. I expected them to be late -- I would've been late too. No problem. But I did receive phone calls letting me know when they were expecting to be there and then a revised estimate when they were going to be late. I was packing so I didn't really care! But I know some people might want to hear about that. I was grateful that they were fitting me in at the end of the day. My piano is small, but it is a Steinway and it is my favorite possession. (I did hear them exclaim once they saw it was a Steinway :-) So they knew they had to be careful. And they had to move the piano from the third floor down to the ground into a U-Haul truck. I watch them for a while, amazed, because you could tell they were tired but they were absolutely on top of things. I never worried about it for a moment. It was great to see guys who really knew what they were doing. I wanted to stay out of their way, but I enjoyed watching how they did it, it was impressive. While I was trying to watch what they were doing my dog got out (my fault).They even tried to help me catch him. But there was no way he was going to be caught by strangers. Moving is stressing him out and he was quite happy to run around the apartment complex and burn off some steam while we did mysterious human things. I have used another piano mover three times while I was in Seattle. I will not give the name, but I was happy with their service. They could not fit me into their schedule for this move and a friend suggested these movers. If I was staying in the Seattle area I would definitely switch to this outfit. Not one complaint and a whole lotta things that went right. It is wonderful to report timeliness, courtesy, and professional communication. We rented a piano from A-1 for my daughter, who is going to start taking lessons. The prices are varied depending upon the size/quality of the instruments, but overall we found something within our budget. The salesman/manager was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. Their rental program applies the 1st year of rent toward purchase of the piano, should you decide to go that route. They also do the moving and the initial tuning of the piano. We tried Prosser's and Kennelly Keys, but they are more geared toward selling pianos, not renting. read more

Below is my reply that stemmed from several emails that took place over the last few days regarding a move I needed done between 11/27-11/30. From the beginning, I was very clear that I needed someone between 11/27-11/30. Each reply I received said they could move it the 14th or the 16th or the 26th but never addressed if they were unavailable during the time frame I needed. Each time I would raise question to this and they would respond back again with dates earlier in the month. I let them know that we were not closing on our new home until the end of the month and were only available the 27th-30th. We ended up booking on the 28th with a competitor who also sympathized with this experience and quoted me $150.00 less than A-1 but have provided us with excellent care and service the time previously when we moved. I'm sure the movers are great here as the numerous rave reviews would favor that but as far the initial intake, how am I to trust my piano with someone who can't get past initial booking because they lack the ability to grasp basic dates? As you can see, at this point, my patience had worn itself very thin...And we were left unable to call due to a relocation from overseas...I would hope that a company like this would work on their customer skills from intake. ------------------------------- I'm sorry - I'm not sure what piece of the puzzle is missing...In at least a half dozen emails back and forth I have provided exact dates I was available and that the piano could be moved. In at least 3 of those emails I've had your people reply with various dates for next week and Saturday the 26th. Each email I 've replied to immediately and reiterated that I do not close on my new home until the end of the month and therefore the only times available to have my piano moved was between Sunday, 11/27-Wednesday, 11/30. Each of my emails has been replied to stating that 11/16 works the best for next week or the 26th or other various times next week. I'm not sure who you have monitoring your emails or why a very very simple request cannot be processed - If you were unable to move my piano between the 27th-30th, all you needed to do was state that fact. Due to this ridiculous conversation over the last couple days, it has become very apparent that your company cannot be trusted to move my piano and I have decided to use a different competent competitor. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this or was it only us who felt being ripped off? Their service was fine. However, be careful with the price quote! They gave us a quote that's just over $100/hr knowing where it's being moved from and to. The total time they spent with us was 1.5 hrs but on the bill it was nearly 3hrs! I was shocked and they said they added the time they had spent driving from their shop to our old house and from our new house back to their shop! I have never heard of this before... A hourly quote that they offered was not honest and had hidden cost! Beware! read more
