I recently worked with James at Classic Pianos on buying a grand piano for my living room. Classic Pianos has a great showroom with a lot of great pianos, and has provided top notch customer service. I visited all of the piano stores in the Seattle area and tried a lot of pianos looking for just the right instrument, so I encountered a lot of different situations. At Classic Pianos, James made me feel welcome to spend as much time as I needed playing the pianos. He checked in from time to time to answer questions or tell me about the models, but mostly kept out of my way. He has a background as a piano technician, and was able to speak really clearly to the technical differences between the instruments I was considering. His sales style was very gentle and not pushy, which I really appreciated. I've been really happy with the piano I selected, but I did find a small mechanical defect with the bench a week or two after delivery. Classic Pianos resolved this promptly by replacing the bench. I sent an inquiry to ask about the prices, and Lamar responded shortly after - eventually scheduling an appointment the same day to look at it in person. Lamar was a very patient and kind person. Not only did he show us both pianos we requested and answered all questions asked,but he was so knowledgeable about these beautiful instruments. Not once did we feel pressured to make a purchase; and he went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. Adriana was who helped us with the transaction itself - she was so kind! At the time of purchase, we had to figure out what to do with our old upright at home. Lamar gave us an idea of what they would take for it or what we can try to sell it for. A Class Act Buying an acoustic piano is even more daunting than buying a car! It's typically a once in a lifetime experience. Went in today to look around for a piano for my daughter. Looking to spend as little as possible, and had a decision made on a Yamaha 725. I know almost nothing about digital piano's, so I thought I would come in and see what I could learn about the various options and differences between all the models in the Yamaha 725 realm and like models. I've done my research online and on YouTube reviews. But one thing that I wanted to witness with my own ears was the actual sound, the feel of the keys, etc. (You know, the stuff you have to be in-person for in order to make that informed decision.) In comes Lamar, the sales professional on the showroom floor: Lamar was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. No pressure at all, whatsoever. I recently had the pleasure of buying a piano with Ben and his team at Classic pianos. In addition to being a pianist, I also teach, and had found myself in a position where I both needed, and was able, to buy a proper grand piano. My wife and I were ready to purchase an acoustic upright piano for our 6 year-old daughter. Most of the stores I spoke with were fairly transactional and cut and dry. The general sentiment other stores told me was, "You just need to come in to our show room and talk." Not Classic Pianos, though. I was connected with Lamar who was incredibly knowledgeable, hospitable, and nuanced in his guidance for what to look for in a piano and which make/models to consider. He was very keen to understand what our goals were for this first piano and careful to not arbitrarily sway us in one direction or another. He spent close to 40 minutes joyfully and patiently answering our questions. You can definitely tell this is not just a job but a calling for him. He lives and breathes piano. He reached out to our daughter's piano instructor and discussed what pianos they recommended and had in stock as well as set us up with an appointment with Ben Klinger, their general manager. When we arrived to our appointment with Ben, he gave us a tour of the various models that we discussed previously (used Kawai, used/new Yamaha U and B series). He also introduced us to lesser known brands that they carry such as Broadmann and Schimmel. The show room was quite large and their pianos were all impeccably kept and clean. For 2 hours, we had his undivided attention. Ben introduced each of the pianos (we seriously tested 10+) and spoke to each of them (pros/cons/history) and played for us so we could refine our preferences. The Schimmel W-118 was a real star and resonated with us but was way out of our original budget. Full, brilliant, attractive, and dynamic. The Broadmann was also an incredible piano they carried in our budget range but we wanted to get the best we could so our kids could develop better sensitivity and hearing while they're young. Ben never tried to upsell or pressure us into buying one or another as he was confident that any pianos they carried with highly capable for what we needed. However, seeing how much the Schimmel spoke to us, he graciously worked with us to ensure we were able to come home with a piano that we loved and will serve as an inspiration for us for decades to come. I can't recommended Classic Piano, Ben, and Lamar enough. They are truly a massive cut above the rest. Long time piano player for the last 17 years, first time piano owner. I was looking for a baby grand piano to furnish my new townhouse. Haidi greeted me shortly after I entered the store and after discussing my needs and my budget, she showed me a few of the cheaper baby grand pianos, starting at around the $10k range. After playing a couple of the pianos, I mentioned that these pianos sounded subdued and muted. She then showed me a piano with a much brighter and richer sound. It was a $18.5k Yamaha, but since this piano had been loaned to a concert hall and had a few (barely noticeable) scratches, Haidi knocked the price down to $15k right off the bat. Overall, the prices and selection are pretty good, and the staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Piano aficionados can safely ignore the strip mall exterior and the beat up upright piano that sits outside soaking up the Seattle humidity (egads). Head straight for the back room and you'll find plenty of new and used Bosendorfers, Steinways, Schimmels, and more. You probably shouldn't buy new -- you'll get a lot of value for your money by going used, saving 40-60% on an instrument that likely performs just as well as new. I had 2 delightful visits to Classic Pianos to purchase a Yamaha digital piano. First, I visited with Steve to discuss models and availability. He was very knowledgeable about the pianos and demonstrated various voices, recording, playback and options. Pricing was about what I expected after doing a lot of research on-line. About a month later, I returned to make the purchase. The piano prices were slightly better due to a pre-Holiday sale, but the delivery and assembly cost had gone up - however, Ben honored the previous verbal delivery price quote and then handed me off to Corinna to work out financing. It took a little while because neither of them were very familiar with the financing process, but they were extremely gracious and I very much enjoyed the visit and conversation.
