I had a store experience so bad I will never use this Ace Hardware again. This took place at Toole's Ace Hardware in Maitland (1607 S. Orlando Ave.). Yesterday (8/13) at around 4:15PM I bought a transformer from the store. Cost me $34. Unfortunately, it did not fit in the space I have. I took the item back today at around 12:00PM (8/14) with my receipt. I was told I could NOT get a refund for my item, even though I had my receipt. She didn't even open the box to check the item (I had repacked it the way it was sold to me). She asked her supervisor, and the supervisor also said no refund. The cashier told me there were no refunds on electrical items. I was not warned about this by the cashier when I bought the item. I was flabbergasted. I like to support local businesses, but that support only led this local business to spit back into my face. I will never use this Ace Hardware again. We will now make sure to go to the big box stores to guarantee we get a refund if something doesn't work, especially within the first 24 hours. I actually left the transformer with the cashier because I can't use it, and maybe someone else looking for one will be able to. I hope keeping my $34 was worth it to never have my business again. read more

Sadly this was my last resort. Went to Lowe's and Home Depot to get a key duplicate for a pad lock. Had to return the keys at both places. They just have self service machines and wasn't able to get anyone to help. One machine actually said "rare key please go to lock smith" Came here as a last destination before giving up. I was worried at first when they looked at the key and said "let's see if we can match it up." At this point I was looking into new locks and a bolt cutter lol. On first try the key didn't work, but I asked him let's see if we can file them down a little, he did his thing and we tried again. Boom! Worked perfect, also had him make another 3. Durante was great and very professional. Words can't express how grateful I am to have this result after driving around. Will definitely keep Ace In mind for the future. read more

We were aiming for the temporarily closed off dining room at the Dunkin' next door and noticed this Ace had an out of season but priced right patio set out front. Pulled into the parking lot to check it out and got great assistance from the team on duty. Ended up buying that set off the lot (so to speak) but organized the delivery as no way this thing would fit into the car. That was Saturday. I got a call first thing Monday morning about the delivery of the set and got everything scheduled for Wednesday. I had to reschedule the delivery, which was as easy as a phone call, barely 2 minute wait and boom, done! The table and chairs came a few days later and everything went as smoothly as I expected with Ace. Long story short, I'd drive out of my way to pay a little more (maybe, depending) to go to this store and get help from this staff. Worth the money and the drive - which isn't even that bad for me, to be honest - for this kind of customer service. We decided to try their handyman service which is NOT CHEAP but I'm assuming the person they send will get more done in two hours to make the money worth it. Definitely recommended! read more

I needed some keys and came here since I pass it on the way home every day. I was immediately greeted by Jess who was warm and very helpful. Clayson, who was also extremely friendly quickly and accurately made a few keys for me. I have never had keys that were as well made as these. I normally have issues with the keys sticking a bit when I first try them after being made at Home Depot or Walmart. I haven't been to an ace hardware in I can't remember how long. I will now only shop here for the items that this store carries. I love the warm and friendly atmosphere in this location! I can't say enough about how well organized and happy the staff here is. Terrible customer service today, and the store wasn't even that busy. I don't know how these stores plan to stay in business. Don't they realize they are being replaced by larger stores that actually have GOOD customer service? I placed a $50 online order and proceeded to the store to pick up my order. About 30 minutes of time had elapsed and the manager at this Maitland Ace refused to give my my merchandise. I asked if he could call corporate to confirm my order and he would not. Now I realize that these small stores probably have antiquated computer systems, but seriously? As soon as I left the store, I called the Ace Hardware customer service line and the lady, Kathleen could clearly see my order. Now why the manager coiled not do this simple thing is just unacceptable. Hence this one star review. I would also like to point out that there were 2 cashiers, and at my register it took 7 minutes for the manager to finally come up and address my question. The cashier had to even run to the back and get him. Now one can probably say he was tied up with a customer perhaps but this merely shows lack of empowerment. There is no reason the cashier shouldn't have felt empowered to himself, call customer service and attempt to release my merchandise. The only reason I can sight, is poor leadership. Vote with your pocketbooks people. Do NOT allow anything other than superb customer service. Your hard earned dollars are worth it. read more

Easy access from Orlando Avenue and ample parking make this an easy stop, even if it is out of the way for us. We stopped in to pick up a kiddie pool my wife had purchased at another Ace Hardware, which is much closer to our house. They were out of stock, so they called ahead to Maitland. The staff were helpful and we ended up getting an "Adirondack" chair as well. read more

Great customer service that was well above the ordinary. I went in to get a new key fob for my truck because mine was ultra sensitive and would unlock the vehicle without me knowing. Long story short, the assistant store manager, Jess was extremely helpful. She first tried a new battery and cleaned the pressure pads of the fob to no avail. She then got a new fob, went out to my truck and programmed it in the 90+ degree heat all while radioing to staff about taking care of the many other customers in the store. My wife visited your store to purchase a space heater for $30.00. When I saw the purchase I told her it was the wrong type could you please return it. The rude young lady behind the desk said if the purchase did not function correctly do not return it, call the manufacturer. THE BOX WASN'T OPENED. Whoa! I love Ace Hardware. Who knew there was a store filled with stuff that creates other stuff! Nails? They got em. Hammers? They got em! Rain boots for no reason? They got em. I bought a tarp and I didn't even need a tarp. Ace Hardware gets me more in touch with the DYI Pinterest Instagram Social Media carpenter I should've always been. I built a friggin bird house just cause I could. The staff is always helpful even though they repeatedly said "Ma'am you can't use that leaf blower in here!" So, I needed to get a key cut and I went to a one of those "big box home improvement stores" and the guy that helped me told me he didn't like working in the "key cutting" dept. Key didn't work. (not surpised!) I google'd online and heard a lot of folks praising Ace Hardware for their outstanding customer service and their ability to cut a key correctly. I went to this location because it is close to my job. Very clean, very friendly (not annoying) and the key guy made sure that the key was usable. He didn't just shrug it off and guess he even had someone else confirm the key. I wish there were an Ace Hardware closer to my home in Lake Nona because they truly treat their customer's like you are their next door neighbor. ....Yes, my key works! read more

Great addition to the Maitland/Winter Park area. The location is very convenient being right on 17-19 near the railroad bridge, just down and across from the Enzian Theater right near the old Enterprise rent-a-car. The staff members are very knowledgeable and friendly. We went there the other day to make a copy of a key and while we waited we checked out the rest of the store. It's fairly new so it's really clean and everything is well organized. We signed up for the rewards card because this will be our new go to local hardware store. They have everything you can think of and if they don't you can order stuff online and Ace will deliver it to the local store nearest you for free. Can't beat that. Check it out. read more

This is the kind of store you want in your neighborhood when you are attempting home repairs and are sometimes a newbie at what you are doing. I can take whatever I need to them, explain what I am attempting to accomplish, and voila` they will find me the item I need to complete whatever it is I am trying to accomplish. I also love that they have trays and trays of all sorts of hardware, nails, screws, washers, grommets, etc...you name it, so that I can find those little odds and ends needed for various odd jobs. Ace also puts out a sale folder usually monthly but sometimes more often and they very often have great prices on their products and even 30 to 50% off sales coupons! Their management is very proactive when it comes to any conflicts re pricing, orders, coupons or availability of products. They are always pleasant, laid back and reasonable and ALWAYS helpful!! What a horrible experience. I was looking for a item online and saw it was at an ACE near me I double checked on the locator to make sure it was at a store near me. So I went down to the store when I got there they had a front wheel and I needed a rear. So I asked the associate and said all I see is a front wheel but I need a rear. I was told thats all they had. I said well fine, i guess you dont have it, just odd because online it said you had one. To that the employee became upset started yelling it didnt say that. I no Im sure it did otherwise I would not be here. The employee still yelling and being very rude said I guess you work here. This employee needs an attitude adjustment. Had to leave store after being both insulted and intimidated after politely asking for an audit of a receipt. I visited the store with a coupon for a free Duracell battery 2 pack and a 5 dollar coupon towards a purchase of 35 dollars or more. As I shopped, I mentally totaled my purchases so as to meet the criteria for honoring the coupon. The first obstacle on this shopping trip, was physically reaching the high battery display. A sales clerk came to me and I showed him the coupon for the free battery pack. He could not find the size but I told him I would be willing the take a substitute of same or lesser value. He handed my a battery pack and I thanked him. I then went to get AC filters. Ace was having a special on AC filters for 4.99 buy two, get one free. The 20 X 24 were readily available but I could not find the 18 x 20 and again asked for assistance. The same clerk assisted me by climbing a ladder to reach the filters that were stored towards the ceiling of the store. I asked the clerk if theses filters were also included in the sale. He assured me that they were. So, according to my mental math, I was at 20 dollars in purchases. Next, I purchased a $25.99 hose and three 98 cent suet cakes (also on sale from $2.00) . So according to my estimates, my total purchase came to around $50.00. I went to check out at the register, and the clerk at register rang up a total of $89.00. I could not readily see the screen to determine how such a high total occurred. I asked the clerk about the AC filters and was told that the 18 X 20 filters were not on special, nor were they $4.99 in price. Additionally he had not given me the special for the 20 x 24 and had charged me for the "Free" battery. He tried to correct some of the bill, but the total was a mess. At that point, I asked him to Void the sale. The assistant manager came over, and pulled me to the register in the paint section. As he was totaling, I mentioned that the store clerk had given me the battery, at which the Assistant manager became huffy and rude stating that the battery was not the one offered with the free coupon. I explained to him, that I was given that battery by his store clerk and that if he could observe, there was no way that a 5 foot tall senior citizen could have reached the battery in question. I told him I could care less about the battery and just wanted to get a accurate total. He admonished me for stating that store brand filters could possibly be part of the store's promotion. I again explained that I did not select the filters since there was no way that I could reach filters that were stored 14 feet above the floor. AT this point, after the mean spirited interrogation, I asked if the store manager was available. He also took on a bullying demeanor as if I were someone whose sole goal was to defraud his store. I explained that my goal was to get an accurate total so that I could feed our back yard birds, water my garden and cool my house. I could see that no coupon was worth this amount of aggravation. I left the merchandise and coupons on the counter. I let the store manager know I would not be returning to the store and left. read more

Just wanted to come and counteract Cynthia's review. I was in line behind her and figured with the episode she'd leave a negative review somewhere. To whom ever monitors these, Cynthia's actions were disgusting. The young man helping her was nothing but nice and helpful. He held his composure very well while dealing with her. ( I know I would have gone off on her) cussing, yelling and calling him names... she would have gotten it right back. We all heard him Tell you it sometimes takes a little longer and to give him some more time for it to come through. That he can't just give you the product with out knowing it's been paid for. (Which you threw a tantrum about) seems like by the time you got in your car and called customer service the order had gone through, maybe you should have just waited another few mins. 2 days before Christmas and there were actually about a dozen people standing in line behind her as she held up the line and quite a few others throughout the store so not busy is a blatant lie... get a grip lady. (PST: maybe you get poor customer service, because you're a s*** customer) I'm in this store very frequently and I've had nothing but great customer service, great advice, great help from everyone there. They are wonderful! I ordered a custom window screen from them, for an oddly shaped window i have, and it did take them a few tries to get the size right, but they were super helpful and understanding. The assistant manager was AMAZING. A+ for customer service, they were unable to add the extention to the screen in store so they sent if off to get it done for me, and didnt charge any extra. my cats are now able to look outside and get some fresh air. They rock! getting the screen done did take a few months but it was worth it and they were really nice and understanding. The manager (I think his name was Jay?) is awesome!
