Pictures are better then words.We eat in this place often and the food is aways fresh and delisious. But i ordered out the same food i usually eat in door and as you can see, the contrast is striking. The pastrami was disgusting. It was all fat dark and two pieces. The cole slaw usually you get a bowl ( see below) takeout you get half of a tiny container. The equivalent of three teaspoons total. The joke is, we complained to the manager.He promised another meal which we took him up on his offer the next day. Unfortunately, look what we got as a second meal to go. The manager didn't even check to see if it was acceptable. At least the sandwich wasn't squished like the first one.but there was still only two pieces and it was dark and there was still only a tiny amount of cole slaw. Average in every way. One thing that is new to me is this way to order your sandwich. Regular, "NY" (the way they used to stack the Reuben) and a third, with more meat (I can't remember the exact classification names.) The service was sub-par, with one woman telling me someone would be with me shortly. Waiting five minutes. Finally, another woman told me to, sit anywhere with a menu. TooJay's Carrot Cake is my favorite Carrot Cake in South Florida! It was a busy Thanksgiving afternoon and I just wanted some dessert to take home. The ladies behind the counter were busy putting together the online orders. The restaurant wasn't very busy but the to go orders were! They took care of me quickly. I actually love all their cakes so I had a tough time deciding. They had their Pumpkin Spice Cake and Pumpkin Cheesecake as well.. but I chose the Carrot Cake. It's very delicate and not very sweet. This recent trip to TooJay's, Florida's version of a New York style deli was prompted by a collaboration with one of my other Florida favorite brands Lilly Pulitzer. For Lilly's 65th anniversary, these two partnered together to create a custom coconut lemon cake. We love coming to TooJay's for some hearty homemade comfort foods. Menu items like potato pancakes and matzo ball soup to name a few. And no meal is complete without a made from scratch bakery treat. As a self-proclaimed Jewish Food Expert, I can wholeheartedly say I always feel better after TooJay's matzo ball soup, potato latkes with applesauce, reuben sandwich, full sour pickles, and chocolate cake. Everything was delicious! The restaurant felt homey and inviting. It has the old school vibe of a New York Jewish deli. But what I actually came to say is that we had the sweetest waitress Lisa, who treated us with attentiveness and care-- she is seasoned and clearly loves her job and helping people--which is rare nowadays. I came to TooJay's Deli after a funeral with a large group. Our table was waiting on us and our server, Jasmine, was extremely polite and attentive. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I ordered a soup and sandwich lunch combo with chicken noodle soup and a turkey sandwich with french fries. The avocado, tomato and arugula were very fresh. The French fries were steak fries and were crispy. The rye bread was soft and drag tasting. Our table was given plates of bread and pickles. My husband ordered a pastrami sandwich. He loved it. It was a mile high sandwich and was loaded with meat. I posted pictures of the desserts in the bakery and from the menu. It all looked so delicious. Have an appointment in the area and thought having breakfast here would be a good idea. Greeted warmly by a young lady behind the deli counter told to sit anywhere and I did I follow directions well. The waitress gave me the menu and I being breakfast aware said coffee and water please. Not used to their offerings I ended up choosing The Nova which is Avocado Toasted wheat thick slice soft Bread. With a thin slice of nova red onion and capers and a sprinkle of bagel everything. 2eggs anyway you want. I wanted scrambled which was a mistake. Went to the two Jay's location outside the Wellington mall today. It was around 3:30 PM. We were having a late lunch. The place was empty. There were about two or three tables in the whole place so I figured service and food would be great. Our server, I can't remember his name, was very attentive and very nice. He greeted us right away. He got his drinks and took our order I ordered the classic which is corn, beef and pastrami on rye. My wife ordered a basic grilled cheese with tomato. After about 2025 minutes, our order finally arrived. It seemed like a long time considering the place was empty. My wife's sandwich looked as it should taste it as it should. She was happy . I got my sandwich and I could not believe how small of a serving it was. I have been a patron of two Jays. I'm going to say 20 to maybe 30 years if they've been open that long. I always thought they were OK as I am from New York/New Jersey and I have very high standards when it comes to deli. I have to say they used to give a nice serving of meat on their sandwiches if I say there was less than a quarter inch of meat between two slices of thicker cut rye bread. It was just a couple slices of corn beef and maybe one slice of pastrami and that was it. I asked the server a simple question it says the normal size of your sandwiches now he looked at me and said let me go and speak with the manager. He picked up my plate walked away, came back a few minutes later put the plate down and said they're going to remake you a sandwich but you can have this one in the meantime. Just said it straight I did not ask for a new sandwich. I just asked if that was the normal size of their new sandwiches. Every place seems to be raising prices and making smaller sandwiches. Well, about another 20 minutes later, they came out with a sandwich which looked like one of their normal sandwiches it was about an inch and a half or more rolled corned beef, but again one slice of pastrami. I did not complain. I hate my sandwich which was OK. The corn beef was a little bit Tough but it was good. The other thing is at the manager, never came by to check on us or to ask us questions. With the restaurant being so empty the manager should been all over it. I still believe and have worked in the restaurant industry for many many years that whether there's one table or 100 tables, the manager should be all over that floor and aware of what's going on same with the kitchen staff Just because it's slow doesn't mean they can take their time and not do their job properly I just think some managers don't care as much about their patrons. I know two Jays has closed a few of their locations as it is tough out there. But I have to say two days is not going to be my first stop anymore. If I'm gonna pay high prices, there are still other places to go for corned beef / pastrami that frankly are better. I still do enjoy their tuna. Walked in Today 6/7 for Breakfast 9am. Tried finding a Clean Table Could not. I finally grabbed the spray and cloth and cleaned our table. We both Ordered the $9.0 Breakfast special. The scrambled "Eggs" looked and tasted like they were put in a blender with too much water. The 1/2 hour we were there, None of the dirty tables were cleaned. We Won't be Back. Yuck yuck yuck. I haven't been here in years, I finally remember why. My girlfriend and myself came here last night because most restaurants were slammed. I ordered a Reuben, she ordered a patty melt. The Reuben wasn't terrible, but I've had better. The patty melt on the other hand was so greasy that my girlfriend couldn't eat it, what she did eat made her sick. I tried the patty melt, it legitimately had no taste as all. Always been a Toojays fan. I been to most of them through out Florida since I do a lot of traveling. The Wellington store is one of my favorite. The staff is always friendly and it's a very clean store. If you never been to Toojays make sure you try their Rueben or Racheal sandwich. Had a great experience at TooJays in Wellington recently and had to write about it! Loved the burger platter and banana cream cake! Easily a 2 person meal it was so much! Our experience was brilliant. Our waitress was top of the line attentive and efficient. Sweet, smiling and so friendly and I cannot believe that I forgot her name. We are a bit older so forgive us. I had the corn beef which was lean and tender and tasty. My husband had the chopped liver which he thought was the best. Our friends had a super salad and the shepherds pie and they loved it. It is a very comfortable place to share a meal with friends and everyone working there had a smile on their face and seemed to really enjoy being there. Enjoyed our meal at TooJay's Wellington! Food quality and service was very good. I had the turkey dinner which was a platter sized portion and subbed the mashed potatoes for potato pancakes (yum!). Had dinner there tonight with a friend. We arrived at 6:30 and the place was virtually empty - sad. Our server was excellent which was to be expected since she had few other people to attend to. The menu is varied but the serving sizes are minuscule. We both ordered brisket sandwiches and were shocked at how small they were. The rye bread was excellent . We substituted potato salad for coleslaw and received a tiny amount, The new owners have diminished greatly the serving sizes. If I could give them "0" stars, I would!! My family decided to enjoy Thanksgiving without cooking. So, we decided to go to TooJay's in Wellington, Fl. My sister called 2 days before Thanksgiving and asked if we needed to make reservations. They said, "Do not need to make reservations." So my sister advised the person on the phone we would have at least 8 people in our party. They said, "No problem." So Thanksgiving arrives and when we got there, they told us we needed to make reservations. SMH!! My sister said she called two days ago and we didn't need to make reservations. The hostess said, "My manager changed his mind and now we needed reservations." OMG!!!! We weren't the only one's that had this problem. So, they said they didn't have enough room inside, but we can get a table outside. By the way, inside the restaurant was not crowded at all. We could have gotten a table inside. Anyway, we were lucky it was nice night. So, now we are waiting to get served. The waitress asked what we would like to drink. We all said, "Thank you for working today." I guess she didn't really want to work that day. She made us feel unwelcomed. We felt like we were bothering her. Even the person who bused our table was not happy, nor nice. Hey, I get it. I always worked on Holidays. If you are in a business that is needed during Holidays, then get out of that business. Anyway, we will never go to a restaurant for Thanksgiving again. So, whoever waited on us, I am sure you are happy to hear, there is at least one family that will eat at home. I am happy to say the food was good. The quandry was the food. My friend and I split the potato pancake app and both ordered the Rueben with fries and cole slaw. The potato pancakes were okay. The rueben however, was outstanding. How they rolled the meat, cheese, and sauerkraut was quite interesting. The fries and cole slaw on the other hand sucked. The fries were limp and soggy. The cole slaw was tasteless.
