Here for the outdoor street painting & good idea for TooJays to have outdoor drinks to go!! The Tangerine Mimosa is the best Mimosa I've ever had!!! It was fast service to go! Cheers!

I had high hopes for TooJay's given its reputation, but my recent visit fell a bit flat. The ambiance was fine--nothing special, but nothing off-putting either. Felt just to hair above a fast food restaurant. However, the food was really just about average. Before I get into the food, the lighting was really great and it was able to see quite easily. The acoustics were quite good and it was very easy for me to hear and be heard. I ordered a salad with chicken, expecting something fresh and flavorful. What I got instead was mediocre at best. The lettuce was a bit limp, and really didn't have much flavor. The chicken, while cooked adequately, was bland and lacked any seasoning or character. The whole dish felt uninspired. If you ever order a salad from McDonald's or Burger King, this was maybe one or two clicks better... maybe. The service was polite, but that wasn't enough to elevate the overall experience. For the price and the hype, I expected far better. There are plenty of other options in the area, and unfortunately, this is not a place I'd be over eager to return to.

I paid over $7 for chicken noodle soup to go. I am sick and was so looking forward to eating this hearty soup. I get home and unpack it and there's literally no chicken in it. I'm eating a bunch of noodles and carrots in chicken broth. I could've gone to Publix and ordered broth for half the price.

The Too-Jay's of today is nowhere close to the awesome Too-Jay's of years past! The sandwiches are not anything at all like they used to be both in size and quality. The only good thing about the visit was the excellent service from the Server!

Had to get my fresh bagel fix. Hit it early on the weekends to get the ultimate freshness, complimented with their homemade cream cheese.

No worries, however, as almost everything has been kept the same with a few new menu additions. The restaurant is south of Lake Avenue on the east side of J street. There's parking out front. The restaurant is small. They do a lot of takeout and pickup. But there are two 2-top tables inside plus a counter with a few seats should you wish to "dine in" as we did. And there two-top table outside, as well. The two guys working when we came for lunch were both so very nice. And personable. I got a traditional 8 inch sub sandwich with one meat and one cheese. I selected salami and provolone and spicy brown mustard. I added lettuce, green peppers, and cucumbers. And got pickles on the side. My husband chose the 12 inch sub with two meats and a cheese. He selected roast beef and prosciutto plus cheddar. He added tomatoes and onions. He tried their spicy contraband sauce and liked it, too. He brought half his sub home for dinner. They offer many specials and combos, including a special sub of the day. There are so many way they can customize your choices. They also have a soup of the day. The corn and shrimp chowder offered on the weekends sounds appealing. We know we will be back when next craving a sub.

IT came with a ginger lemonade, fresh kettle chips, and a delicious chocolate chip cookie with sea salt. omg. and of course a pickle too. This place is just next level. I cant wait to try the shop in the Gables and to also try some different sandwiches on the menu. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. It was mediocre at best and honestly felt more on par with something you'd get at Olive Garden than at a restaurant with this kind of vibe and price point. On top of that, the service was quite slow, which made the overall experience feel even more underwhelming. If you're going for drinks, music, and ambiance, it may be worth a visit. But if you're expecting the food and service to match the atmosphere, it falls short.

We made reservations and received a call with information about the restaurant, dress code, parking instructions, etc. Definitely a unique touch and something I hadn't seen before. The DJ spinning records behind the bar created such a fun atmosphere. He went from reggae, to 80's, 90's, and contemporary throughout the night, which was cool. We started with their version of an old fashion (forget the name) and the passion fruit mocktail. The old fashion was delicious. The mocktail was ok, very syrupy. We ordered the ceviche and beet salad. The beet salad was original, innovative, and delicious. Ceviche was very good but tasted a little fishy. We decided to split the short rib entree. It was very good (8.75/10). Maybe a little sweet for my taste but a solid dish paired with a tamarind sauce and garlic mashed potatoes. We had the carrot cake for dessert and it was solid as well. The wait felt a little long from the bar and the kitchen to get our food and drink, but we were willing to overlook. The owner was very kind and warmly introduced himself. We may return for a drink and to hear the music in the future!

Neat take on a classic recipe and my only complaint was that it cost $12 to add a bit of plain simple chicken to my daughter's salad I could have bought two rotisserie chickens for that.
