Stopped in with a few family members (not my choice). First of all the establishment is a cash only place, they conveniently have several ATMs at the restaurant for a fee. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor dinning tables. Honestly this place really seems like fast food sea food style. Personally, I just am not a fan. I ordered the New England Clam Chowder which was not the way I like it, it was very runny and watery. I had the ribs because I did not want any fried sea food. The ribs were bad, smothered in awful bbq sauce. The only thing I liked were the tostones. My girlfriend ordered the fried whiting and it had no flavor it was rather blah. I did not like this place and will not return.

The food was fried great nice and greasy just the way I like it. I ordered a fried fish platter with all the fixings. The clams the shrimp the calamari the fried fish the fries. The service was nice and quick. The food did not take long at all. You can eat inside or out side. Clean place.

We got 12-15 ketchup and salt packets. HUGE WASTE

I am not from around here anymore. I have been living in Southern California. I missed good seafood and my brother recommended Tony's on City Island. I had been hearing about this place for some 30+ years ago. So, as I was staying in PA for a while I decided to make the trip. The drive was 3 hours one way! So grateful the weather was nice. We arrived at 11:14am. The parking lot was empty. There's plenty g parking. Like A LOT!! When we entered there were 4 other people. I was at a loss as it was my first time. We approached the counter reading the wall menus trying to decide and instead of asking if we needed any help or had questions he told us to hurry up and order. There was no one behind me. My mother is in her 80's and I have to order smart for her. Not everything fried. That went out the window. Ordered her a Lobster, Shrimp & Fries. She was good with the shrimp. Wasn't impressed with the fries. Everything was warm. I like my food hot. I expect it to come out hot. It's FRIED -it should come out hot. Cold Cement floors which I imagine is a good thing when it's hot outside and packed inside. Lots of tables. They are all uncomfortable for larger folks. If the chairs slid back or were an inch or two farther from the tables it would work. They have an ATM on the premises. And at the prices here - you're going to need a lot of cash. They offer a full bar. I got an ICE COLD CORONA. I was happy it was ice cold. It was the only thing that came out at an appropriate temperature. I ordered a Lobster shrimp Combo - fried the coleslaw served with it was almost an insult. The tartar sauce WAS an insult. The tartar sauce was gross. Watery. Flavorless. My brother ordered the Fish Fry Combo - scallops, Trout (?) - with the fish bones still on the filets. When they sent out the wrong food - my brother went back. Almost 20 minutes later - he came back frustrated. The counter guy had not put in my order. As we paid THAT price I wanted the items. Instead of addressing THEIR mistake and getting me my food ASAP - they decided it was more important to argue in front of everyone waiting to order. It was pathetic. Unprofessional. The food was just not at peak - and we were literally the THIRD order of the day. The bathrooms could use some attention. Management should consider retraining but this is a cash cow. They won't change anything. They don't consider it broken. Overpriced / Total disappointment Checkout SEAFOOD CITY - same concept done right. It's just a few streets up. OUTRAGEOUS! Better bar offerings. Friendly employees. Good food!!

The food and service at Tony's is always amazing. They are fast and efficient. The food is delicious. Prices aren't bad. There is plenty of seating. I loveeee coming by whenever I'm craving seafood!

This place has been a staple in my life for about a year now. It's a beautiful restaurant with a cafeteria style feel near the waters of City Island. Despite them selling seafood it never really smells that way, is always clean and is nicely setup. There is usually a good amount of people here even on slow days. The workers are quick and the orders are taken and delivered very quickly. My favorite thing here is for sure the DRINKS. They have the best bar, best Henny Colada in town. The food is also great and I 100% recommend you come in here at least once in your life!

Came here with family for a quick seafood run as Johnny's is closed during the winter . My only complaint is that they changed how they make the fried shrimps which I wasn't a fan of . I ordered lobster tails and shrimps. The lobster tail was so good, well seasoned and tender , I ordered some as well as crabs to go . Was not too crowded and service was excellent . Tasted a Dusse colada which was good as well.

Here is a spot in the bronx that I have been to several times and never disappoints. Tony's pier. Located all the way in the back of city island on the right-hand side. I came here with friends on this rainy gloomy day, so it was not packed with people. That might be different in the warmer weather seasons. Tony's pier. I usually get the fried combination platter even tho I can't finish it. It comes with whiting, flounder, calamari, shrimp, scallop, and clams. The place looks great now and has a lot of seating.Service goes pretty smoothly. I recommend giving tips to the bar host. Your drinks will be stronger each time, lol.

My uncle and I visited this restaurant for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere, specifically outside seating area is very scenic and has great views! The only part that was quite unexpected was the very long line and wait time. We waited in line to order our food for about 45 minutes! Once we finally got to order, we received our food quickly but the wait time was ridiculous. We ordered the fried lobster tails with shrimp and fries. We both enjoyed our meals. It could have used a little more seasoning but it was good. I would have given it 4 stars but it gets 3 stars because of the ridiculous long wait time to order.

Shrimp dinner(fried shrimp,steak fries,& cole slaw)

I've been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl. I would feed the seagulls (b/c it is at the end of city island where the water & rocks are) French fries. My go tos are the shrimp dinner(consists of fried shrimps, steak fries, & coleslaw) or fried lobster tail. Their tartar sauce & coleslaw slaw are the best I ever tasted. You can tell their both homemade! Staff isn't very friendly but they have fast service! Most items are fried & it is mad fresh when you order. They fry it by order so food isn't just sitting there. Drinks are ok they have fallen off on that. I always order a henny colada. The atmosphere is nice outside bc you can sit by the water. However, inside is cafeteria like.

Tony's is similar to the other no frills place across from it, Johnny's Reef. You go inside, order at the counter, and receive your food on a plastic tray with paper plates and plastic cutlery. The menu is mostly fried seafood and they even sell $5 beers and cocktails too. This place is a good option if you want to save some money and do not care to be at a fancier place. Best of all, it is located at the end of island and there is outdoor seating that is right on the water.

Good, cheap eats. No stars for service or decor, but a full plate of seafood including shrimp and lobster for under $30, I'm a fan.

I'm a born & raised New Yorker but this is my first time at City Island and I knew I had to do it right by coming to Johnny's Reef. They have a pretty solid system where you order at various stations. It seems confusing at first but is actually super efficient. We got the Fried Shrimp & Fried Red Snapper. Both were so fresh, crispy, and tasted clean. It hit the spot!! Their French fries are also super addicting and fried well while the coleslaw adds a nice freshness to the meal. They have a sauce station where we got cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and ketchup. These are a must with their fried fish! The Fried Red Snapper was fried nicely as well. It was done to the point where it was crispy on the outside but not dry on the inside. The fish with a little spritz of lemon was spectacular. We also got the Henny Colada to try and honestly, they are heavy-handed with the Henny! I personally would just get the piña colada next time since it was super refreshing and not too sweet but if you're looking for a slight buzz, the Henny Colada will do you right. All in all, I was unbelievably satisfied after this meal and so glad this gem exists! Tons of seating both inside and outside, and don't forget to bring cash!

Cuisine: 7 Service: 6…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 7 Overall: 7 After having a wonderful Italian lunch on Arthur Avenue with my family this past Sunday, we visited the Met Cloisters and then decided on some seafood for dinner. Whenever I'm in City Island, this cafeteria style restaurant is one of my favorite places to grab some seafood with a beautiful view of the blue waters on a sunny day. My favorite items were the freshly shucked cherrystone and littleneck clams (dozen for $15), jumbo shrimp cocktail (6 for $14), and the fried soft shell crab (5-6 small ones w/out the head). These have always been my go to items here, and remain the best Johnny's Reef has to offer. Their fried scallops (about 18 pieces for $25) are tender, but I do wish the batter was crispier. I did not enjoy the doughy fried oysters (about 15 pieces for $28) or the dry fried whiting (huge piece w/ bone for $18). Btw, neither the Manhattan or New England clam chowder ($7 each) had any clam flavor. If I stick to what I like here and order simply those items, then it would be a very satisfying meal for a reasonable price. When I want a casual seafood meal on City Island, this is still my top choice.

I think I officially found my new seafood spot!…read more My boyfriend took me to City Island Lobster House, and the food and service were easily a 5/5. Our waiter, Antonio, was an absolute delight and took great care of us! Fair warning: this place gets PACKED, so be prepared for a wait. One thing I really appreciated, though, was that as soon as our food was ready, they brought it out. Everything arrived HOT and fresh. They start you off with antipasto and garlic bread, and both were SO good. But consider yourself warned pace yourself. We made the rookie mistake of going in a little too hard and were already getting full before our entrées arrived. I mean... you can't go to the Lobster House and not get lobster. I ordered the $49.95 Lobster Clam Bake Special, which came with Maine lobster, mussels, baked clams, corn, clam chowder and dessert. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and for everything included, I thought it was a great value. My boyfriend ordered the grilled Norwegian salmon, and honestly, his was REALLY good too. Now, if you love garlic like I do, GET THE NOODLES. The linguine in that garlicky olive oil sauce was one of my favorite things on the table. My only miss was the clam chowder. Mine had a lot of potatoes and barely any clams, so I would've liked a much better clam-to-potato ratio. The ice cream cake roll that came with my special, was rich and decadent. Definitely a good way to end the meal. Overall, fresh seafood, generous portions, hot food, great value and wonderful service from Antonio. We will absolutely be back!

Just look at the massive menu with items written in fine print. We saw everyone walking away with leftover bags like they just went grocery shopping so we decided to order less. We went with the Sammy's Broiled Combination and the Piri Piri shrimp appetizer sized. But before we even ordered, they dropped 3 types of bread with pickled vegetables. We are basically full better the food even arrived. Our waiter was swamped. They were definitely understaffed for a Friday afternoon unfortunately. That said, the food was good overall.
