I have used Tony the Tailor (aka Marcelo) for years, but unfortunately cannot recommend him. First, he's always late. Second, he is forgetful - he may do only part of the tailoring job. Third, his work is mediocre. Fourth, he's his own delivery guy for the dry cleaning portion of his business, which means he's always jammed and always behind schedule and often times not available because instead of tailoring clothes he's out delivering them. Lastly, he has a short tolerance for correcting his own mistakes. If you ask him to redo something because he didn't get it right the first time, he'll be unhappy. Of course, the more business you give him the more likely this will occur, making it appear as if you're the problem for complaining too much. This reached a head with me when I asked him to repair a tear to brand new suit pants (front pocket, highly visible) that he caused. When I picked up the pants after the alteration, they were torn -- and he didn't even realize. I asked for an immediate fix because I needed them the next night. So, he did a quick and messy job, not matching the thread color or stitching. Later, when I asked him to redo the repair, to match the thread color and make a better stitch, he said OK but when I returned a week later it wasn't done (see first and second problems above). He told me to return the following week, and I did. To my surprise, he didn't do anything and defended his position by saying it was as good as it gets. (Wrong color thread, messy stitching ... still with me?). When I pressed the matter, he said he'd fix the pants but then he was done with me. .... So, to recap, he damages new suit pants, does a lousy job fixing them, is late on making the repair, then complains about having to make the repair to correct his own bad work and tries to make it seem like the customer is the problem. How did it end? I took my pants back ... I don't need the free repair and told him he didn't need to tell me he was done with me because I was through with him anyway. read more
