Friendly workers. Really made me feel welcome. Cabbage roll is fantastic! Everything looks clean and well maintained.

1 Packo's Original Hot Dog German Potato Salad

Given that I was visiting family, they decided to take me to the classic Tony Packo's for a hot dog. Following the recommendation from my family, I got the fully loaded hot dog complete with mustard, chili, and onion, and opted for the German potato salad for my side. This is the type of sausage that snaps when you bite into it and so much better than the junk you get in the grocery store and fully loaded is a must. I wasn't a fan of the German potato salad and the pickles were a little on the spicy side for me, so I'd choose another side the next time I'm there.

One of the ways you know you live in the MidWest is by counting the number of places that offer hotdogs and mom n pop burgers. You'll get a lot of ice cream places that also sell hotdogs, and hotdogs are rarely sold without chili sauce. I absolutely love the fact that I got so many different hotdog places and that they are all slightly different from each other in their own rights. Packos is one of those historical Toledo staples that's been around the block. It was definitely recommended by more than a few people when I first moved into town 6+ years ago. I tried them first back then, but didn't have the same kind of appreciation as I do now. I'm not gonna say they have the best hotdogs or the chili sauce that I've ever had, because I've had some GREAT hotdogs and chilis elsewhere (althought not around here..) They're of Hungarian origin. Since I can't claim that I've ever been to Hungary, or have any Hungarian friends who may have been inclined to teach me all about their homecooking, I can't confirm they taste *just* like the dinner my great Hungarian aunt used to cook for us. But what I *will* tell you is that they have a character and consistency. They don't taste anything like what you might have had in any "all American" hotdog places. For that I give points. It's all about uniqueness when it comes to such simple food as hotdogs and burgers. They have to have that little something that differenciates you from the other two hundred thirty five places in town, and imho they do. Now, like I stated previously, I didn't get these sort of sentiments the first time I visited. So it's probably safe to say that they grow on you over time. One might even say it's an "acquired" taste, also this phrase generally isn't used in these type of context. Dogs with"everything" comes with a sausage, a line of mustard, onions, (chili) hotdog sauce with side of pickles by default. I personally have never seen anyone get it without the extra shredded cheese, but it's optional. Today happened to be a Tuesday so I got it for $2, which was nice. Purpose of today's visit was really to check out one of their newest menu, Packo's Poutine, which tries its best to minic the traditional Canadian poutine, but with Packo's twist. I think they did a great job. It was definitely enough food for me and I'm happy with it. The final test will be to serve it to my 11 year old daughter and see if she likes it. I'll be back for it!

What's not to love about Tony Packo's? I was distressed when the Anderson's grocery closed on Monroe, because I loved the Packo's location there. However, now we have a bunch of new options! As always, I love the chili Mac (without onions) and love how smoked paprika can go on my mashed potatoes. I haven't been since covid hit, but in previous visits it was always very clean. I believe this has a drive thru as well!

I am from Toledo, Ohio and was a fan of the show M*A*S*H so I take for granted my awareness and adoration of Tony Packo's. Most people I meet outside the area have never heard of this restaurant. I feel sorry for them. My son and I drove into town from Columbus and stopped into the Conant Street location for lunch. This location is situated in a small retail building in front of Meijer... has been open for a short time, relocating from its position as restaurant tucked inside The Anderson's Retail Store but a staple in the area since the 1930's. Parking is plentiful. Ordering is a breeze - you line up, cafeteria style (only they keep the tray) and place your order. My go-to is a perfect sampling. The #1 combo: one Packo's dog, one side (I choose the mini chili mac every time - served over dumplings, it is the tastiest and neatest chili mac you may ever have) and a drink. (They actually have fountain soda and a flavored 0 calorie water available - how times have changed) The have a drive-thru but I prefer to eat in for one primary reason: complimentary pickle bar. Whether you prefer the Original or Sweet Hots ( or like to mix them like I do) you can have as many as you like. (They also have the bread and butter pickles as well as pickled jalapenos. Pickle heaven.) The combo is about $9. The Packo's dog is a Hungarian sausage, split in half and served with chili sauce and onions ( if you like). You can also add cheese for a small upcharge. I hear a lot of griping of getting just half a sausage. My opinion is it is the perfect portion. Sausage is high in fat. The thinner portion means this grilled gem is the perfect texture. If you want a whole sausage, order 2. They do offer an American hot dog but believe me - go for the original. Another great item on their menu if you just can't bring yourself to have a hot dog id Chicken Paprikas. A Hungarian specialty, paprika-sauce served over chicken and those delightful little dumplings. Their cucumber salad, cole slaw, macaroni & cheese, or french fries are all the best you may ever have in Ohio. Plenty of options to branch out but I have been ordering my #1 for decades and don't see that changing. Perfection is, after all, perfect.

Very nice staff... the hot dog was not edible. Had like a thick/gross skin on it; maybe a bad batch!?! I don't know. I'm OK with hot dogs; so don't love it to start off with. Chili was decent.

The "Hungarian Feast." 12 bucks and I'm content.

A great and quick hot dog! I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that my hotel was approximately one mile from this Tony Packo location. I arrived in the area at 9 PM and used the drive-through to get a delicious dinner of two hot dogs and Paprikas Dumplings.

not the original location but the original state and the current menu so close enough... for all appearances Tony Packo's is your basic rust belt hotdog joint but with a connection to both television and regular history. kind of a big deal locally Packo's has been a Toledo fixture for about a century and a TV phenom for half as long. lots of Packo-vian memorabilia including signed bunnage on the walls to offset the standard dining room furnishings. was in town to catch up with my best cousin and got in a bit early because I had inadvertently skipped brunch on the way up leaving me very hungry and a little grumpy, good news is I have time enough to remedy that before coffee and sweet :-) I just wanted a little something to hold me until dinner so an original plus cucumber salad and a fountain beverage. maybe it's me (quite likely due to time and miles today) but I felt misled and underwhelmed :-( okay, it's a sausage but not really a hot dog... hot dogs are traditionally fine ground meat and stuff of a uniform texture indelicately crammed into a casing of uncertain origin whereas what I received had actual discernible bits inside. so I'm upset that I may have been served a superior meat stick? sounds crazy but yeah, a little... with my fanciful imaginings of exquisite regional hot doggery undone I moped my way through the rest of my lunch. the cucumber salad was cucumbery and creamy but otherwise unremarkable, the soda cold and bubbly and possibly orange but I can't be sure :-\ I will return again one day with my expectations adjusted to an odd surreality of what constitutes a hot dog -vs- a sausage sandwich and have another go at this storied great lakes eatery. until then...

Was looking for something in Maumee and me and my friend had no idea where to go. We both love hot dogs so we decided to give Packo's a chance! I got the Hungarian soup and fries. The workers made both of our fries fresh and they were amazing! I would definitely recommend going here for hot dogs cause my friend said she loved them. The soup was really good and had great flavor! Just wish there was a little more broth.

So I am a big fan of the box meals and have tried a number of different companies. Love Plated,…read moreHello Fresh, Martha and Marley Spoon. Our family does almost all of our meals with boxes. This has meant no more waste, no spending a bunch on eating out, much less time grocery shopping and meal planning, but still able to cook and eat together at home. Meez has been a new addition and has a lot about it that is great. The most remarkable thing is how quick it is to cook as they do ALL the prep for you. No chopping or peeling, it comes vacuum packed and ready to use whether that means cubed, shredded, or sliced. Also, quality of ingredients (while not necessarily organic, is very good, fresh, tasty). Generally Meez meals take 1/2 the time to make as the other services that rely on you doing the prep work. The meals themselves tend to be quite tasty, though we have not been crazy about some quirky flavor combos. Also, fewer meals to choose from than other services, so that can be frustrating. We have two vegetarian teenagers and there are always at least three veggie entrees. Also they are able to flex and make items vegan or gluten free if that is your thing. They tend to be somewhat lower calorie and some meals have the Weight Watchers points included if you care about that. The people at Meez are very nice and accommodating. However, they are a relatively newer, smaller business so.....NO app, just a website and its interface with my android phone is quirky. Also, other services show you menus for months to come, Meez has a couple weeks out only. Finally, Meez sends you a cardboard instructions, no pictures or step by step while most others do photos of each step. Not a big deal for me, but some might care. That said, I think they are greener and more of their stuff can recycle. Also, the other companies give you the whole recipe with amounts if you ever want to do it yourself. I have not seen that with Meez. In sum, great quality, super easy to make, very flexible for different dietary needs, no hard sell, just charged if you order (many services charge and send food unless you cancel). I use Meez for about 8 to 10 meals each month. Highly recommend you check them out.

OK, I don't want to come off in this review, sounding like I didn't understand the business model…read moreor proof-of-concept of Mr.Beast Burger. My children pleaded with me to order it, namely because of the assumption that their affection for this YouTube philanthropist would easily carry over into the fast food burger realm. Unfortunately, it did not. I have already read many reviews complaining that the food was cold, which I feel is a tad bit unfair considering Mr. Beast exists solely as a delivery food option. It's like 12° out, and the food is delivered almost 20 minutes away. Of course, it's going to be cold. So the luke warm to frigid temperature of my family's burgers tonight were certainly not the criteria I am using to judge. For those who are unaware, Mr.Beast Burger relies on other restauranteurs To make their food and door delivery services for the rest. In theory, it's genius. This YouTube sensation gets to label-slap his name and brand on a simple burger recipe all across the country and has built-in promotion from the 55 million followers he has online. So, if you are a Toledoan hoping to find a brick and mortar MrBeast restaurant to visit, of course, you will not find one. The delivery time for door dash was pretty decent, nearing 30 minutes. As soon as we opened the paper bag - if he came pretty evident that this online business exist in reality, only in the form of a digital recipe alongside massive rolls of MrBeast stickers given to local employees to stick on generic wrapping and generic bags to give the illusion of a franchise. Regardless, the true testament was the food. Aside from the temperature as previously mentioned, the Mr. beast burger was decently pleasant, with a mixture of Beef patties, American cheese, ketchup, mayo, pickles, and brown mustard, all rammed between soft buns. The pictures on the menu, of course look delightful. I expected the real thing to look like a squished mess, but it even looked less desirable than I imagined. Luckily, the taste of it was pretty acceptable. Scoring no higher than a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, the Beast burger was definitely appetizing, despite its poor appearance. However, that's where the niceties stop. My son had the Chris burger, which was advertised to include bacon and french fries squashed atop a burger patty. But he found the bacon to be excessively chewy and almost under cooked. His patties were thinner and were much more overcooked and tough than the beast burger. The fries were the worst. Not only did they suffer the most from the chill weather outside, making them not even remotely warm, but many of the fries seemed completely under cooked. Almost like they were slivers of frozen potato. In conclusion, if Mr. Beast Burger existed as a brick and mortar restaurant that I could visit in the summer, guaranteeing a piping hot plate that could be easily returned if undercooked, then this YouTube-turned-burger sensation would earn at least a moderately respectable review in my mind. But considering it's status as delivery-only, I highly forewarn Toledoans from rolling the dice on a risky concept that banks its success on pre-existing marketing from a world dependent on social media than on the quality of it's food and service.
