If there is chicken and paprikash sauce left over, I make chicken salad for sandwiches. Sooo good! The meal comes with Greek brand white bread, butter, and a side salad. I make an extra simple salad with on hand ingredients and buy a loaf of Greek white bread to supplement the meal costing about $5 more. My work friend and I got carry out from here, although it sounds like the better part of the meal tends to be their complimentary cream, strudels or crepes. We ordered dumplings with paprikash sauce over it. It comes in a styrofoam to go container and then was cellophane wrapped, to keep the paprikash sauce from getting all over everything, which was considerate. Our 1st time here. Great service by Mara! I had the Hungarian Goulash which was like a stew consisting of Very tender beef , vegetables , potatoes, dumplings and delish broth. Served in a stainless steel pot with a flaming ember of wood underneath to keep it hot! Nice presentation. It was served with a nice salad, rich dressing and when I thought I was done I got two apricot crepes about 8 inches long. We shared with other guest and they all loved it a sampling of the goulash. The chicken which should have been crispy if fresh, was rubbery and cold. Same with the food my husband got. Vegetables were frozen kind, heated to mush. We both think we were served leftover funeral food. Which is really gross considering my husband found extra restaurant chairs stacked next to the urinals in the men's room. I was downriver for a show, and needed to stop for dinner beforehand. I've had Hungarian Rhapsody in my bookmarks for a while, so it was my choice. It's an old school place inside, kind of like stepping back in time with Hungarian music playing under the chandeliers. Service was awesome and very attentive. I started with clam chowder, that was broth-based rather than cream, with loads of clams and bacon, and absolutely delicious. I decided on the chicken paprikas, and swapped for the cucumber salad with sour cream. That was really good, and worth the upcharge. The paprikas was a large portion with 3 pieces of bone-in chicken. It was also delicious, and I have to say I couldn't finish it after the soup and salad. They have a good selection on the menu, and daily specials. I have been going here for years when in town visiting family. The chicken papakash is a must try. The orange/paprika sauce with the chicken and dumplings is delicious! It's a dish, I have order anytime I go. They also provide some fresh bread slices to start which is perfectly soft and fluffy. The restaurant is a great size and also available for private parties and has hand paintings and Hungarian decorations. Our service is always great as well. Had an outstanding lunch! I am "kicking myself" for not visiting regularly. It has been way too long. I will rectify that. I started with a cup each of the chicken noodle and mushroom soups. The cup of soup is "bowl size" and both soups were absolutely fantastic! Excellent bread and butter too! For the main course, I ordered the crêpe stuffed with shrimp and green pepper sauce. This was one of the best meals that I ever ate! I do not say that lightly. It was mind-blowing outstanding. A perfectly cooked crêpe stuffed with plenty of tender jumbo shrimp in a phenomenal slightly sweet green pepper sauce which worked well with the crepe. And for dessert, the famous Hungarian krémes. My wife is from south of Detroit. We were in town over the weekend and had dinner here with family. With my love for Central European cuisine and the high recommendations, there was no way I could pass this place up. My aim was to sample as much as I could ... and mission accomplished. The appetizers included the Hortobagyi Palicsinta and paprikas chicken wings. The sauce used on the Hortobagyi was thick and delicious. To continue with my mission, I obviously opted for the Hungarian combination plate (bring on the paprikas sauce ... amazing ) as my main course. Everything came out hot, fresh and cooked with love. I also ordered a cup of the Hungarian Goulash. There are many versions of Goulash recipes that derive from Central Europe and that I've had the pleasure to sample, both here in the US AND across the pond ... and this version has to rank up there with the best! The mixture of tender beef and potatoes (topped with dumplings) was stewed to perfection and was an absolute culinary delight. I somehow dug deep and was able to sample some dessert. The Kremes was the ideal cherry on top, due to its light vanilla custard and pastry dough on the top and bottom (sort of like a Napoleon). The service was great and the cozy atmosphere makes this a very welcoming place, especially during the Michigan winters. Shout out to the owner for coming by on multiple occasions to check on us. We will definitely be back next time we are in town for more cuisine, and more Apricot Palinka Cocktails . read more

For years this was a wonderful place to have family events. The food quality has really declined recently. Our last visit there was very disappointing. They were out of the Salmon at 4:00 before the dinner rush. The waitress recommended the Cod. When the Cod arrived, it was cut into small pieces and VERY overcooked. It had absolutely no seasoning or butter. No lemon, not a thing. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were fine. When I brought it up to the waitress, she didn't seem to care at all. She knew I wasn't happy, but did nothing to rectify the situation. I really don't think we will be returning to this restaurant. Meh. Not nearly as good as I remembered. Went in on a busy Sunday. Wanted comfort food after weeks of summer salads and sandwich type fare. I guess you have to stick to the main specialties. What we chose was not cutting it. First off, they do not let you pick sides with a dish you are spending over 25 bucks on. My veal was good, not great, and I was bitter with the hard veggies that accompanied it. The mixed veggies would not have been my pick at any rate. The redskins would have been but were still undercooked. I would have been thrilled to get options of mashed potatoes or sauced up dumplings. As it was, it was plentiful, but I did not feel like it was good value due to the underdone side dishes with no option given to me to change. My husband got the cheaper breaded pork chops and because he balked at veggies, they offered HIM to pick another side. He went with dumplings. Sadly, they were served cold. Pork chops were tasty til he got bone shards in one of his bites. Yuck. We packed up and left. We got to go for the old people. They were happier than us. Thank god. Apparently, the chicken paprikash and access to a microwave are a match made in heaven. I won't be back. read more

I rate the food 10 out of 5. Fantastic. It's been years since I've been here, I don't know why because it was the best meal I've had in a looooong time. There were six in my group, so we were able to get the table buffet (five required) -- three main dishes, salad, coffee, and dessert and I'd recommend it to you, invite your neighbors. We had Chicken Paprikas, Pork Chops, Cabbage Rolls, and Spaetzles. It was all you can eat, but they served so much, the only dish they had to refill was the excellent salad. The dessert was a cake smothered in whipped topping (I would have preferred a scoop of ice cream). They also served mashed potatoes, green beans, and nice-looking bread, but I devoted myself to the main dishes. I've got to learn how to make Spaetzles, they are addictive. There is no other restaurant I'd rather go to, it was excellent! I was there on a late Saturday afternoon and there was not one empty table the entire time I was there so make a reservation. I'm looking forward to my next visit -- real soon. read more

Took my mom for her birthday and it was great! We had the Mixed Hungarian Hors d'oeuvres (Salami, Kolbasz and Korozott) to start. Mom had the stuffed cabbage and I had Chicken Paprikash. Both amazing! For dessert, mom had the apricot crepes which were as you could guess, amazing. Our server, Ben was so nice and attentive. Drove up there last Saturday night for dinner with family. I'm guessing I've been there a half dozen times and it's really great. The place is clean, parking is convenient, the staff is really friendly, and the food is always spot-on. I had the fried porkchop dinner. The portions are plentiful (had enough for lunch the next day) and really good. I pretended to be healthy and ordered half vegetables, half dumplings! The vegies were perfectly cooked and consisted of a nice mixture of green beans (fresh, not canned or frozen), bell pepper and carrot. the dumplings were perfect too. Gravy was great and the salad is always crisp and fresh. That said, anyone out there remember The Budapest in Toledo? As much as I love Hungarian Rhapsody, The Budapest had the best porkchops I've ever had. Theirs were fried too, but Budapest's chops had a flour dusting instead of breadcrumbs. They pounded the hell out of those chops to get them super thin, breaded them and fried them to perfection. God, I miss that place... Anyway, I also ordered some chicken paprikas to go. I had that for dinner the next night and it was also superb. Hungarian Rhapsody has a full bar, and they made my martini correctly! I gave explicit instructions this time so that probably helped. Note to self - always give explicit instructions on how to make a martini... So, this place is only a 40-minute drive from Toledo and well worth the time and effort it takes to get there. So have been wanting to try this restaurant for years and have never gotten the chance to walk in So when you first walk in, the place looks like the most Authentic restaurant you have ever walked into and the wait time isn't long at all. We got to our seats and placed our order but before the food got here they had Hungarian bread on the table and this bread is by far the best bread I have had in a long time, it was soft, flavorful and quite big for a slice. Then I ordered Hungarian Chicken Paprika Hot Wings & Hungarian Ghoulash with a salad. They brought out the wings and I must tell you I would order these wings over ANY other wing company, they were phenomenal with the right amount of spice with different flavors I have never tasted before & the sauce is something I have never had before and it was out of this world. The meat was tender, it was just the PERFECT chicken wing. So then later came out the Hungarian Ghoulash, it came out in a mini pot over a boiling fire and they even serve it to you if you choose to have it served for you. Now let's get to the Ghoulash, so the dumplings seem to be handmade which are amazing and soft, the meat is so tender I feel like they cooked it in a crock pot first before putting it in the Ghoulash because as soon as you put it in your mouth it begins to melt, the potatoes were delicious and soft, how can you not love potatoes is more of the question. It did need a little salt which I added but other than that it was fantastic. This place is a must visit if you are looking for a very hearty, home cooked and delicious meal. read more

The flood was nothing great. I liked the bread. The salad had pieces in it that weren't very fresh and it wasn't very tasty. I ordered the appetizer of feta stuffed mushrooms for my meal and they were okay but they were deep fried with a lot of batter on them and hardly any cheese plus a little bit greasy. My sis-in-law got a bowl of chicken soup and she liked that and my 4 year old nephew had chicken tenders he really enjoyed but not the fries. However both her and my mom ordered the stuffed cabbage which didn't say on the menu that it comes coated in sauerkraut which they both don't like and inside- it should have been a mixture of meat and rice with some spices- nope it was like a lump of yucky pinkish meat - very unappetizing looking! Bleah! Not really impressed with the place. The decor is definitely in need of a renovation it's like stepping back into the 70's. Needs Gordon Ramsay to come in and update the place and the food too. The service was pretty good but slow. She was nice and friendly though. I don't think I will go back here on my own- my mother picked the place and she remembers taking my grandmother there. Well my grandmother passed away 20 years ago so it was before that that she went to this restaurant and the inside hasn't been changed since so it needs an update really fast and so does the kitchen.
