Well after looking at other reviews I was very hesitant to bring my car in for the Recall repair that it needed. They have a solid amount of reviews stating how shady and untrustworthy they are as a company, but having no where else to go for these recall repairs (I checked with corporate) - I caved and made an appointment. First, there were some issues with scheduling because I somehow got scheduled in O'ahu (without noticing) and was told I'd just walk over to the Nissan for a rental for the day. This location doesn't have any on site rental options, and after calling around there were no rentals available at Enterprise, etc. I had an important work meeting that wasn't easily rescheduled, so I needed a ride. Ryu (pronounced Rue not Rhy-yoo) was the best, most helpful employee. He was apologetic - although none of it was his fault and I didn't blame him for it - and managed to get permission to lend me one of their vehicles for the duration of my car's repairs. They did not have to do that, they could have easily said,"sucks for you not our problem." Instead they helped me get to my meeting and I'm grateful for it. I also want to mention Laurie, who was also very sweet and helpful. Tbh she immediately made me comfortable just from looking in her eyes, she gave family/Auntie vibes. I'm just realizing I think she forgot to call me back about something I might have left in their car (I'll call back after this lol). **BUYER BEWARE** Shame on this dealership for preying on senior citizens. My in-laws just bought a car there and once they got it home they realized that the sales contract that they signed was changed from what was originally presented / agreed. They left to go get a bank draft and came back and signed the contract. But, the financing terms were changed, which they missed. But then why would they expect the terms to have been changed from what was agreed?! Shame on the salesman for making such a change without disclosing it before signature. Horrible Service! My daughter brought in her car to change her oil and rotate her tires. The technician working on her car broke off her tire stem and lug nut and expected us to pay over $700 for it to be fixed. It wasn't even our fault and you expect us to pay for it. Took our 2022 Honda CRV in for service in mid August 2025. Car had less than 11,900 miles, excellent condition. Next day received a text from a Jarrett of Tony Honda offering us from $26,000 up to or more than $27,200 for our car. After discussing it, on Sept 15 went to the dealership to talk about trading in our car for a new HRV LX. According to the Honda website, an HRV LX with all wheel drive, floor mats, etc, had an MSRP of about $28,500. At Tony Honda Hilo we were quoted more than $34,700. Not including tax and registration fees. Registration, weight, and other fees are $200 for that model. I researched it. I KNOW! We were quoted $575. Finally, the trade in we were offered was only $23,000. When questioned, we were told that the trade in value Jarrett had offered us was from August and Jarrett was in Honolulu. What he offered did not apply to us 1 month later in Hilo. Felt as if Tony Honda Hilo lied to us from start to finish. We did not appreciate somebody lying to us, and trying to take advantage of us. They lost a repeat customer. Can NOT recommend Tony Honda Hilo. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Leasing a car at Tony Honda Hilo was a seamless and generally efficient auto buying experience. I called Tony Honda Hilo looking for a new HRV. This was the only dealership of all the ones I called in Kona, Hilo, and Honolulu that actually had a receptionist that answered the phone. She took my information and said a salesperson would call me back soon. The salesman Jarrett called back within the hour and took my information. I told him exactly what I was looking for (model, trim, and price), and I even told him, "no BS, either you can do it or you can't." He got me the HRV that I wanted for the price that I wanted to pay. The HRVs at Tony Honda also come with Pro Pak (enhanced mud guards, door trim, etc.), wheel locks, and a Tony Care Package (first three oil changes and tire rotations free), which was included in the monthly cost (that other dealerships could not do). I drove from Kona to Hilo for the car and the service that Jarrett provided. He had the car washed already. We went for a test drive, and he showed me some of the new features of the vehicle. When we returned to the dealership, the documents and insurance were already printed and set up for me. The Finance rep Marc was also easy to work with; he did not push hard the way that other finance reps do. Jarrett detailed through the paperwork, explained the remaining aspects of the car, and gave me the keys. Excellent. I brought my vehicle in for its first service, first oil change and purchased it new. The service department racked up a $2,000 bill and told me I needed the transmission, brake fluid and coolant flushed and replaced on top of additional charges for labor and other items. The vehicle had less than 5,000 miles and was purchased new. I stated that I did not require the types of services they were recommending. Additionally, I had paid for the first three services when I purchased the vehicle and got the full warranty. After they realized they were not going to take advantage of me my bill came out to zero as I already paid up front for the services. I can only imagine how many elders or other people were unknowingly taken advantage of by this dealership. Watch out for these clowns, they belong in the circus. read more

Amazing customer service! I have never experienced this level of service at any car dealership. Generally, the process purchasing/leasing a new car is unpredictable and anxiety-provoking, but I felt valued before I even arrived on site and welcomed as soon as I stepped out of my car. I filled out the lease inquiry and preapproval forms on the Tony Honda Hilo website at home on Sunday. On Monday, Krystal called me and scheduled time to meet with me on Tuesday. When I arrived, Krystal was still with another client, but she had arranged for Jarrett to assist me. Jarrett showed me a few different models and helped me to understand the difference in features, which really helped me to decide what I wanted and needed. During the test drive, Jarrett was super cool, not at all awkward, but still very professional. It felt like taking a cruise with a friend. When we returned to the lot, Jarrett showed me the numbers and was kind and understanding as we negotiated the price. While Jarrett ran back and forth to get me a deal that worked within my budget and their needs for leasing, Krystal joined the party. She is so easy-going and kept me company while Jarrett was away. If she wasn't with me, I might have been going crazy wondering what was happening behind the scenes. Chatting with Krystal made waiting so easy. And eventually, Jarrett came back with great news. After signing some documents with Krystal, I met with Riley, a very nice man, to review the legal and financial terms. Riley was so calm and cool during this process, not at all like my past experiences with managers or finance specialists at car dealerships. After the final bank approval, Krystal drove me to the bank (in the pouring Hilo rain), so I could get a cashier's check. AND after everything, Krystal and Jarrett both helped me by delivering my new Pilot, so I didn't have to return back to the lot to pick it up. Before arriving on the lot, I had pictured what the day might look like... but this experience was beyond what I could ever have imagined. I visited Tony Honda Hilo to look into purchasing a new car. If you have gone through the process of buying a car, you know that it is not that easy. Well--it isn't easy for me. I don't know how to negotiate and I really just want a final price. I visited the lot to check out some cars and was approached by a very nice salesperson who took me on a test drive. I gave an offer before leaving the lot. After 5 days, I reached out to ask about the status of my offer. I was informed that my offer was declined but that she was waiting for a write-up which I assumed to mean a counteroffer. After waiting for about another week, I followed up via the website and heard back from a different salesperson. I requested a price but did not hear back from this salesperson. However, despite the initial hiccups, I would like to say that a little over 3 weeks after I first visited the lot, I got a call back from the sales manager to follow up personally with me. He asked what I was looking for shared what he had in stock. Riley Hirai was friendly, professional, and was very efficient in follow-up communications. I had my 97 Acura checked out by a reputable service station because the speedometer & odometer wasn't working. The mechanic recommended I go to the Honda dealer for odometer replacement. I phoned inquiring on cost of part and repair to tech, he said he would have to call me back - NO call back, I phoned again and he said he was waiting to hear from another person. NO CALL BACK X 2. I then waited a week, got another parts person who saw my initial request and wanted more information, which I sent via email, we spoke again and she'd get back with me - NO CALL BACK X3. I called back after 4 weeks spoke again with her and she said "I will call you back in a couple hours". NO CALL BACK X4 Silence. Now it's 6 weeks later, I phoned, they have no record of my calls and someone will be calling me back to get all the information that I gave them 6-8 weeks ago with no call back. I'm waiting.... I was ready to pay cash for a new CRV hybrid. I contacted a sales person at the dealership and told him that I would like to test drive one before I put any money down. I was told that they would call me as soon as one came in. This was back in January. I've called them several times and each say that they are sold as soon as they come in but they can put me on a list to call for the next one. The sales team in Hilo who helped me, Sebastian and Mark and my newly assigned service advisor Glen were all very professional And helpful. I had to replace my car as the result of an accident so it was unplanned and a bit Traumatic for me but these guys made it a Positive experience! I would also like to give a Commendation to my previous service advisor, Clint DeSilva for his years of excellent service to me. Now on to Tony Honda Kona where there is another excellent service team! I was on Kona side when I had my accident and therefore had my car taken to Tony Honda-Kona. I only have Kaimana's name but she and her fellow coworkers were excellent with me! They evaluated my car and after realizing it should not be driven anywhere, gave me a loaner to use until things were settled with my insurance. They made the whole experience smooth, seamless and easy. Tony Honda-Hilo and Tony Honda Kona coordinated with each other and arranged it so that I did not have to drive all the way over to Kona to return the loaner car or collect my possessions from my now totaled car, they did all this for me! This business is now Tony Honda with a temporary sign hoisted on the left side of their outdoor sign. I noticed it as I drove by earlier today. Their website is not reachable and if you go to Tony Honda website there is nothing about Big Island Honda. I got a flyer from American Honda on the mainland today referring to Big Island Honda so I guess the acquisition of the business by tony Honda has been very recent. I don't care how sudden, the Big Island Honda website should still be reachable and there should also be information at Tony Honda's website. I've had several Hondas since I came to the Big Island in the early 70's (and had them serviced at Big Island Honda) but the first one I bought from Big Island Honda was in 2012 (a new Honda Fit). I still drive that car and love it. I have no complaints about the service department and I hope my service manager, Glenn Ishii, is still there when my car goes in later this year for warranty check and possible new tires. I guess the free car wash is a thing of the past. I liked that. My Honda was under recall twice for the Takata airbag mess. I got a replacement for a month with Enterprise that Honda took care of. read more

My wife and I had the most disappointing experience with Garrett, one of their service managers, on a RECALL issue with our Fit's original paint. After an initial round of repainting three doors and a quarter panel, we noticed more flaking on the remaining door, roof, hood and quarter panels... yes, basically the remainder of the car. He attempted to make us feel bad for going back because of the chipping paint... Horrible, condescending attitude. He would tell us that a couple areas were not covered, saying the bubbling and flaking we were seeing was due to corrosion and a rock chip. These were obviously the result of a horrible paint job. Then when I noticed that flaking was occurring under the roof weather moulding, he tells me that the body shop would charge to do an estimate!! Aren't estimates usually free of charge? And, if there was a charge, why would I have to pay for it? He'd drag his feet on getting back to us regarding corporate approval for repairs, not calling back after us leaving multiple requests for a call. Then, when I physically go down and ask for him, he says he was waiting for me to get back to him. WTF! Long story short, we shipped the car to our daughter in Portland, and within a week, she had approval by corporate Honda to cover everything, including those areas he insisted were not Honda's responsibility. What a frustrating experience this was! The Fit is a great car, with the exception of the defective paint job, but the "service" we received from Garrett was far from what I'd expect from anyone in a service oriented firm. We'll never do business with them again. read more

I had an awesome experience with salesman Jarrett Enriquez. His communication from the moment we began talking was professional and I knew he genuinely wanted me to find the truck that was right for me. I came by and just talked story with him about what I was looking for. He answered all my questions. I never felt pressured. I told him I wanted to take time to think about it and then I scheduled an appointment with him the next day. He always got back to me right away. I came in with my son the next day to do a test drive. The truck was detailed, which we greatly appreciated. Jarrett talked us through the whole process. He understood my reservations because it had been a long time since I bought a newer car and things have changed a lot since then. I really appreciated that Jarrett listened to what my process was in making the decision and he reminded me of the goals I have and the purpose I had shared for wanting the truck we were looking at. He made us feel like Ohana. He even went out of his way to help out with the 'old' car. This blew us away. Everything he did was way more than what we expected this experience to be like.
