Best craft beer section in Monroe so far. Fresh dates on beer like Ghost in the machine. Also they have Jester King.

Gene Cox's Grocery & Meats has been in business for over 50 years, which is a great, boast-worthy…read moreaccomplishment! Cox's is a small, family-run, grocery store with the best meat market in town. Despite the many large grocery store competitors around town, the locals remain loyal to Cox's because of their Southern hospitality and quality products. From the moment you walk in to check-out, the staff are eager to help and answer any questions. On our first visit, we felt very welcomed as we took our time to browse the store. Hot foods are available most of the day, breakfast biscuit sandwiches in the morning and then typical lunch food fare(fried chicken/fish, meat pies, boudin, boudin balls, sausage links) for the rest of the day. We were surprised to find fresh, homemade cracklins for $16.99/lb. A majority of the hearty bite-sized pieces had a good meat:skin proportion. The cracklins had a nice crunch and seasoning, but not too spicy. (Most natives are used to the spicy seasoned cracklins from south La). There is an extensive selection of packaged specialty meats and foods (seasoned pork chops/pork tenderloin/chicken/ribs, stuffed chicken, certified Angus beef, smoked beef patties, twice-baked potatoes) and it was hard to select a few choices because everything looked deliciously mouthwatering! We grabbed a few of them to cook up at home- duck wrapped in bacon and chicken stuffed with crawfish dressing. Catering options are available too, just let them know in advance. The rest of the store is similar to what you would find in the typical convenient store with snacks and beverages, including some local brews. With the Mardi Gras season upon us, Abita Mardi Gras Bock is in stock too! I saw a small display of various jerky flavors and local jarred goodies like fruit, jams, and seasonings. Remember to visit Gene Cox's Grocery & Meats the next time you can't decide what to make for lunch/dinner. You'll be sure to find great food here should you need a little snack or a meal. The carnivore in you will surely be screaming to buy all the specialty meats. And as a rule of thumb, eat and shop local!

Let me start off by saying I LOVE chicken cracklings. Being from Mississippi, we don't really have…read morespots that sell them fresh like Louisiana does. So whenever I'm passing through, stopping at Billy's Boudin & Cracklin or Randall's Cajun Foods is a must for me. I went to Randall's today. About 5 months ago, I stopped in and the cracklings had clearly been sitting for a while, they were tough. I explained my concern and even offered to pay extra just to have a fresh batch cooked. After going back and forth, they finally made them fresh, and they were exactly what I wanted. Fast forward to today, I called ahead and specifically asked for fresh cracklings. The young man on the phone said okay, no problem. I walk in 5 minutes later and there's already a bag waiting. I asked where they came from and she told me they were cooked that morning. That was an immediate no for me. If I'm spending $21 for a pound, I don't want tough, sitting all day cracklings. Go ahead and put those back. I ended up trying the boudin balls, big mistake. You could tell they had been sitting too. At that point, I didn't even have the energy to go back and forth or ask for a manager. Honestly, it should be a given. This picture is pepper jack boudin ball. Look how dry it is . Needless to say, I won't be back.

The order was to be ready today Dec 27th at 10:00 We just got a call at 9:01 and were notified that there is no meat! I want the public to know that this place is not one to order meats from! We now have 4 hours to come up with something for our family. Family members coming in from LA and Shreveport. You certainly can not depend on this place. Also last week we bought a chicken and dumpling casserole that was horrible! Only dark meet was used! Please do not confuse this company with Randall' Captain Averies on Ferrand. The company that gave the poor service is Randall's on Sterlington Road. This owners purchased this place two years are.

As a Vietnamese person, and someone who used to work at a pho shop -- plus my family owned a…read morebusiness -- I understand how hard and difficult it is to open and run a restaurant here as an immigrant. Because of that, I usually don't write bad reviews. But I'm writing this because I genuinely want the owner to read it and understand. I love my culture and our food, and everywhere I go I always try Vietnamese restaurants. I chose this place because it looked like a mom-and-pop shop, and I really like supporting local businesses. We dined in during lunchtime, and it wasn't very busy, so we got seated right away. We ordered: - Rice with Grilled Beef: it tasted good and the portion was decent. We added a fried egg on top for $2.45. Everything was okay, but the color of the pickled vegetables didn't look fresh to me. - Vermicelli with Grilled Shrimp, Pork, and Egg Rolls: also a decent bowl, no big complaints. But I asked for no bean sprouts, the server repeated it to confirm, and it still came out with bean sprouts. Now here's the part that really disappointed me. Everywhere I've been, when you order a rice plate, it usually comes with a small side of soup. This place didn't, so we decided to order one. I knew we would be charged for it, and that's fine. But $8 for a small bowl of beef broth -- barely around 4 oz -- is honestly outrageous. I understand pho broth takes a lot of time, effort, ingredients, and experience. I respect that. But this? This didn't feel reasonable at all. I'm not expecting anything to be given for free just because I'm Vietnamese and I speak Vietnamese when I order. Even if they offered, I wouldn't take it. That's not the point. The point is, I felt really disappointed -- because this is my own people, and it made me feel like I got taken advantage of by my own people. I'm speaking up like this not to bash a small business, but because I want them to understand: every dollar customers spend is money they work hard for. You shouldn't take advantage of that or use excuses to raise prices like this. And what made it worse is that I've heard from locals who've been there and personally know the owner that "they only do that to people from out of town." That honestly made me even more upset. You might make extra money from one visit, but you lose trust permanently.
