Solid BBQ in Downtown Monroe. Jac's fed me on a dark and stormy night. Remember about a month ago when all those tornadoes came through? Well yours truly was in Monroe for work and the weather was awful. But it was time for dinner after a long day and I discovered Jac's on Yelp. By the time I arrived I was soaked and they were nearly out of food. They did have sausage and enough pulled pork to make some nachos on pork rinds. Both were great. I love nachos made with pork rinds even more than when chips are used. Something about the extra pork makes it even better. Service was very friendly and prompt. Will I be back? Absolutely. I was unsure when I pulled up, because you can usually smell the smokers as soon as you are near a bbq spot. They had the rustic look and feel, so I went for it. I'm glad I did. Jac's catered an event for us recently and they provided some absolutely delicious BBQ. We got a few of the Jac's boxes which had pulled pork, brisket, potato salad, rolls and baked beans. I do not say this lightly. It is the best BBQ I have had between here and Tallahassee, hands down. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful, the brisket was so tender it was hard to pick up and the taste was everything you could ask for in brisket. This was just the place we needed to find. We were on a 12-hour road trip back from vacation and wanted something new but also that all of the kids would eat. We stumbled across this place on Yelp, and I'm so glad we did! Not a single complaint from us or any of the kids, and we may as well have licked our plates clean! We got off the road and dropped off our bags at The Hamilton House for overnight stay. Finding ourselves famished and hearing some music just across the street we walked to JAC's. They had a local band playing under the shade of awning, cranking out a collection of oldies and newer tunes. We followed our noses and walked inside. My man-food indicater was pegged on all the smoked choices. Knowing I may never be back since road trip we ordered the whole menu (sort of). We ordered the sliced brisket, pulled pork and I was able to snag the last order of ribs! Add the fried Brussel sprouts, baked beans, Mac and Cheese with toast. Yes two people- too much food. The ribs were tasty and the dry-rub was delicious. Same for the brisket and pork. Frankly we could only eat a portion of each but took the remainder with us for later. Finally, a new shining star of BBQ heaven in West Monroe! Visited here for the first time today, and was thoroughly pleased. For starters, the customer service here feels very personal, but also still extremely professional. We were never left wanting for service at any time, and were always checked on to make sure that we had everything we needed. The interior of this place is beautiful! Seriously, just look at the pics. The decor pays homage to "old" Monroe/West Monroe/Cottonport, with a touch of modern flair. It gives the impression of those old time country stores but with an industrial coffee house kind of vibe. In regards to the food....well if I had eaten anymore, I would have probably had to have my wife call Plunk's to come tow me out of here. We are no strangers to smoked meats / BBQ and actually have multiple smokers (including a UDS) and use them quite often. It's very nice to find a place here locally that actually impresses us, and this restaurant does just that. The brisket served here has a great smoke ring, perfect bark, and is absolutely juicy. The brisket nachos are also a must-try, and if you are super hungry, brave, or need a LARGE app to share with the family, be sure to get the FULL order. It's a biggun'. You can also customize the nachos with a selection of meat (brisket or pulled pork) as well as sweet (or spicy) BBQ sauce drizzle, and cheese. For sides, I believe the shining star on this trip would be the Mac n' Cheese. It has a milder bite to it than others I have tried which have typically used sharp cheddar and gouda with a Bechamel sauce, but it does have a nice bit of smokiness to it. This BBQ restaurant is located at the edge of antique alley in West Monroe. The food is outstanding, and everything we tried thus far has been wonderful. I believe the show-stopper is the chicken.
