Tonkotsu ramen with the Tokyo ramen lunch set with a side of pork gyoza and a pint of Kirin
    Connie C.

TL:DR; Didn't enjoy the ramen here and will not be returning. There are many Tonkotsu locations throughout London, and we decided we needed to try this in place just to try it. I mean, with so many locations, it has to be good, .... Right?! The Tonkotsu ramen which is their speciality and not on the lunch set menu was porky and very creamy but lacked the right balance of flavors. The Tokyo ramen was bland and tasted watered down. The bit sauce at the table was very much necessary to save to food. The best things here were the sauce and the seasoned egg. Everything else was mediocre at best. If you have to try, recommend coming for lunch to get the lunch set menu which is about a tenner. If you really want ramen, make the trip to ippudo, which has a few locations scattered throughout London.

We were craving some ramen on a dreary day and this was within a 10 minute walk. No wait, ordered and food came quickly. The garnishes were all quite good - egg cooked perfectly, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts. The noodles themselves though were borderline inedible. Not really sure what the deal was but the noodles tasted like grimy undercooked wheat, yet the noodles were easily soggy. There also wasn't enough broth to really cover the noodles. Don't come here.

noodles are nice and pleasantly chewy but ramen soup is very watered down/unflavorful, lacking the rich qualities i typically look for in ramen :( adding the chili oil does not help with the flavor either

Chilli chicken. Great flavor, mildly spicy.

After exploring Tate Modern late night, we were craving something comforting on a chilly winter day. Tonkotsu popped up on yelp and seemed like the perfect thing. Is there anything better than a bowl of soup noodles on a 30 deg F evening? The chili chicken had tender pulled chicken pieces, around 4 snow peas, and a perfectly marinated seasoned egg, all immersed in a flavorful chicken broth. I would say the spice level is a medium. It was apparently plenty spicy for Londoners though because our waiter congratulated me on finishing the entire bowl. He told us some people even send it back to the kitchen because it was too spicy! Their ramen definitely hit the spot and the price was right. Service was also excellent. I also liked the cucumber slices in their water tumbler- it's all about the small details for me. Now if only they could have turned down the heat in the restaurant a little bit.

Not the best Ramen in London but still a pretty good place. I had the Geki Kara ramen which had a warning on the menu for being super hot and the waiter also warned me but I got it anyway. I have a good tolerance to hot/spicy food but this really tested me. However, despite being spicy, the broth had a very good taste of Scotch Bonnet pepper which made it really good and enjoyable. It would have probably been better with some more noodles though.

I felt really unsure about coming to eat here. I'm not big on chain ramen places, and I questioned how good the good could be as the restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday night. This place really proved me wrong. They have a small and simple menu, with solid offerings. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, and was pretty satisfied with the noodles and broth. The noodles were above average and the broth was tasty. I came back a few nights later and again it really hit the spot. The bf enjoyed the seafood ramen (with soft shelled crab, wow) and the braised beef rib. Out of the two he said the seafood was more to his liking but both were good. I ordered katsu chicken as well, but was not impressed. It was underseasoned and overfried. Service was good as well.

Small place with a great lunch menu. I ordered off the lunch menu which gets you ramen and a side for under £10. I added on eat the bits chicken wings which was the highlight of the lunch forsure. Friendly attentive staff and great mobile ordering. You'll have to make an account but only takes 5 minutes.

For being in London, this is a pretty tasty Japanese eatery. From the pickles, to the prawn Gupta, chicken kara-age, and the Ramen, quite a nice meal. Now I have had ramen in Roppongi, where the depth of flavor in a ramen broth is 10x what most places achieve, however, although not on a Tokyo level, this cozy eatery is a wonderful experience, and quite a tasty treat. Try this tucked away tavern of flavor when you are near the Bankside of London.

Nice location as close to Tate Modern. Good for a quick and okay meal, but nothing special and worth returning. The Tonkotsu ramen broth is claimed to be boiled for 16 hours, but only brings it a very fatty flavor. I had to add much extra vinegar and chili sauce to balance it out. Tho the chili sauce was great. Noodles were not as chewy as they should be. But the bamboo shoot and egg were good.

3.5 stars I didn't order the ramen but the lunch special of chicken Katsu curry with rice and a side of crab croquette. The service was really slow! Luckily I didn't really notice it because I was perusing Instagram until the waiter came over and asked whether my food arrived yet. To which I noticed that my iced green tea hadn't arrived yet! Luckily I wasn't in a time crunch and taking my time at the Tate museum. The food was hearty and tasty. My croquettes were delicious. The curry was a big portion and I felt so full afterwards.

    Miso Ramen with added chasu
    Cara H.

I usually pick Miso Ramen because it is packed with flavor. This one was a little bland, I'm not sure if it's because it's vegan and I'm used to a Miso pork broth. I added some chili and it was a little better. The noodles were perfect and so was the shoyu egg and other toppings. I got chasu added to my Ramen and it was a little fatty. I've been told the Asian food in the UK is not great and this place was pretty good. I would recommend it if you feeling like Ramen. I will have to try the tonkotsu broth next time. Waiter was very nice.

I would give this place 2.5 stars, if I could. It was close to my hotel and we wanted something quick and hearty. First you walk in and they have the heat turned on way too high or the ventilation system in the kitchen is broken. It was muggy and all the windows were fogged up. Now comes the actual ramen, it looked really good then when I tasted it I noticed the flavor was ok, but the consistency of the soup was soooooo odd and thick. Like there is a nice rich soup then there is weirdly thick. This taste like a sauce instead of a soup and it lack flavor so it made the whole ramen experience bad because it was really slimey texture. The egg looked good, but was overly salty, the charasu was the only decent part of the ramen. Oh and also the chili oil was great!!!! I would stick with ippudo or a more traditional ramen place. Looking at this place it's some non Japanese chef trying to make ramen the wrong way. Too bad!

We strolled in here for some ramen on a cloudy day and the meal was far above our expectations. I had a pumpkin ramen with spiced egg, ginger pork gyoza, and a gin yuzu lemonade, all of which were incredibly unique. My partner had the special, a pork belly ramen salad, and a Little Victories brew, and he too was very satisfied. For stumbling across this place in a hungry stupor, we were pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend.

Not sure why it got such good ratings. The ramen leaves much to be desired. Very bland, water-down broth.

Like all city-lunch-joints it has a haphazard queuing system but you make it to the front with the food of your choice. You can order a hot drink or soup, then pay and go, or pay and stay. All the extra goodies are right in front of you on the counter - chopsticks, pickled ginger, etc. I like the decor in this branch - it's girly (white with pink sakura wall decals), I like that it has so many windows looking out - making it feel more airy and spacious than if it was walled in on every side. I thought the staff were friendly. They have a very broad selection of sushi, sashimi, nagiri, etc etc. You can't really go wrong. My friend is veggie, so she was happy. I like the bottles of goo they have on the tables - lo-salt soy sauce (not a biggie for me, but will make some sectors happy), chilli sauce, hoy sin or similar. Hey, these are details.. but the details are what make a place eg. I hate that Starbucks can't be bothered to give me a spoon, but Costa can. So LUV to itsu for looking at all these little bits and pieces. The tables were clean. The floor was clean. I liked that the "stations" (those mucky areas where the trays pile up, and people can't be bothered to aim their rubbish into the bin-hatch. yuck) were also nice and clean and clear - during rush hour. Since we don't have a cafe to eat in our office and often end up eating at our desk this is a great option. The slim salmon is almost always sure to please, the veggie dumpling soup is filled with yummy dumplings and fluffy noodles with miso soup, wow my mouth is watering thinking about it.
