Incredible dining experience. Was looking for a place to eat after the matinee at the Royal Opera House. Stumbled across this place and got lucky enough to get a table. If you want to eat here make sure to secure a reservation! You will be turned away without one. Being half Japanese and growing up in Japan for part of my life, I will admit I'm extra judgemental on Japanese restaurants. Abeno had me beat. Fantastic food, very good selection of traditional dishes along with some with an "Abeno twist". The Natto Okonomiyaki (Fermented soybean cabbage pancake) and Kara Age (fried chicken) some of the best I've had. The sake selection is really great and they can help you pick a good one if you're new to rice wine. I could write pages about it, but better you eat about it rather than read about it.

Oh my gosh where do I start?! The food was amazing!!! The Okonomi-yaki was cooked right in front of your eyes!!! It's a sight to see and taste. The flavors are so heavenly and melt into your mouth. It's definitely worth trying and I've never been to any place that tastes as good as here. It felt really authentic and the quality of meats/ fish are off the charts! It's worth every bite and the servers are so nice and welcoming and explain the whole process of the menus/ how they cook their foods and serve it to you. The presentations are just to die for. Cheers!

Great place to stop by after a visit to British museum. Friendly and smiling staff members. Food was great got the pork okonomiyaki with noodles on top. They cook it right in front of you on the hot plate. Inside is lively. Wanted to try the dessert but didn't have time as they squeezed me into a 45 minute window. It seems like you need to make reservations to get a seat here usually. Food is on the pricier side.

Came here and ordered one okonomiyaki; an om-soba, and 2 asahi beers. Service was top notch and the okonomiyaki chef was fantastic. Be sure to call ahead and get reservations as they do turn away customers if they are fully booked since each table has a grill for the okonomiyaki. It's a real experience. One of the best okonomiyaki ever... hands down! The om-Soba was good too, but just can't rival the okonomiyaki here!

Okonomi-yaki, Tokyo mix: just put onto the teppan raw

Abeno is a fantastic and fun experiential restaurant serving up Japanese fare outside the typical sushi or ramen. Abeno specializes in okonomi-yaki, which is a pancake-like dish made out of cabbage, egg, and dough, mixed with various flavorings and meats (your choice), cooked on a hot plate (the teppan) right in front of you. It's a cool process to watch, and the finished product is delicious. We got the Tokyo mix (pork, prawns, and squid) which was delicious. A large okonomi-yaki is big enough to mostly satisfy two people--maybe get one other smaller dish on the side. Their second most popular dish is the om-soba, which is an omelette filled with friend yaki-soba (egg wheat) noodles, as well as veggies or other meat fillings (your choice). I didn't like this one, and the concept to me was a bit strange. But you can try it if a noodle omelette sounds appealing. The restaurant vibe is pretty chill and cozy, with fun decor. The staff are polite but relatively stoic as they cook in front of you. It may help to have a reservation if you come on the weekend. Overall a great place to bring a friend or two and share what Abeno calls "Japan's best-kept culinary secret": the okonomi-yaki!

My word! I remembered loving this place last time I was in London. I loved it even more this time! The food and creativity are second to none! If you haven't tried okonomi-yaki, please do! It is a mouth watering experience!!

Nice spot, great food, good service and fair prices: easy 5 stars! The restaurant itself is simple but nice and super clean. Since every table has a grill it makes a nice ambient. Food is really good, I shared many dishes and none of them disappointed. I had a piece of Chicken Om-Soba as a starter and then I tried three of their Okonomiyaki: Tokyo (pork, squid and shrimps), Sapporo (squid, shrimps, salmon, scallops and corn) and Kiso (mushrooms, lotus root and cheese). All of them had fresh ingredients, were well seasoned and with a generous amount of fish/meat; but the best one was the Tokyo one, helped by the pork hitting your taste buds! As a dessert I shared a Wafu hot-cake (adzuki beans, matcha ice-cream and sweet shiratama mochi) which was also cooked on the grill and it was a good ending, the ice-cream was particularly tasty. Prices are overall fair for the quality of the ingredients and for having somebody cooking (and cleaning) everything in front of you. Service is also very good, friendly and happy to suggest items on the menu and helping with the selection.

This place was amazing! Some of the best service we have ever received. Our waitress cooked everything for us on the grill. The okonomiyaki was delicious! Love the sauces added on top. Also had the yakisoba and hot sake. Overall the prices are very reasonable for London. I highly recommend checking this place out!

After a visit to the British Museum, we wanted a quick early dinner. A friend highly recommended Abeno. I always trust their culinary judgement and once again, they came through. Really liked:- - Tokyo Mix Okonomiaki - Osaka Mix Okonomiaki - Mio Sake (which is sparkling sake - like champagne) - Chicken Om-Soba The waiter was very helpful and described the 'pancakes'. He also was the one who cooked at the table for us. Overall, this was a great stop as the only place I can recall finding an okonomiaki place is in Japan. After a week of pub food, this is a welcome variety to the week.

Great place to eat after spending a half day at the British Museum. Service was great and food was even better

The starters alone are worth a trip, and there were so many I wanted to try, they're actually all I had. Don't judge. They were amazing. The Pumpkin Croquettes were a slightly sweet and crispy version of traditional croquettes, deep-fried to perfection, with a light and smooth finish. Two will set you back a mere £3.10. While the spring rolls are good, I highly recommend the Vegetarian Duck Rolls, made with slightly sweet tofu skin, spring onions, cucumber, and Hoi Sin sauce. Three of those healthy rolls are a whopping £4.60. Finally, the Chicken Yakitori was also a dish worth it's weight in pounds, char-grilled to perfection and doused in a sweet yakitori sauce. A few skewers costs around £4.10. The rest of the menu is not only enormous, but sure to please any seafood-lover, especially sushi. They serve just about any Asian-inspired dish you can think of, including salads, ramen dishes, rice dishes, noodles of many different varieties, tempura, and sushi rolls, with a perfectly-paired sake menu to boot. But really, those side dishes are to die for.

Thanks to Katie B for stepping in as interim Yelp Ramen Club organiser in Josy A's absence…read more Ramen Club 8.0 took place at Ribon and Katie went to great lengths to make our booking and also to make sure that they had ramen available - for large parties, it's best to warn them as they only make a limited amount of broth each day When you get to the restaurant, don't be put off by the fact that the ground floor looks shut because it is shut! Descend the stairs to the subterranean dining room. Our party of 15 took over most of the main dining area though there are private rooms, which also offer karaoke The starters were my favourite part of the meal with the black cod and chicken karaage being top of my list even though the portion size was tiny for the cost. As far as ridiculous prices go though, I think my glass of orange juice from a carton for £3.30 was criminal - I can get 2 litres of Tropicana for less. Other starters like the pork and kimchi were rather bland The ramen was a disappointment. The broth was rather bland and the chashu was dry. Perhaps in keeping with the rather mean attitude to the volume of food served, there was no egg. In an age when Bone Daddies and other ramen joints in London have raised the bar, bowls like this won't cut it any longer It was a really fun evening but the food wasn't up to scratch, especially the ramen. Roll on, Ramen Club 9.0!

Thank you Katie B for being a star and getting such a huge crowd of us involved in ramen club!!…read moreRibon was a strange ramen experience...ramen is only listed as a side note on the specials menu, but after seeing a photo of their ramen in the magazine "zoom Japan", I was keen to try it. Ramen: The miso soup was really good; hot and delicious... BUT my noodles seemed like over-cooked, squidgy cup-ramen noodles. I liked the toppings, but I was sad not to have an egg, and the cha siu was forgettable. So all in all the ramen isn't as good as many of the other ramen-joy-lands in London. Plus they took aaaaages to make, even though Katie had told them in advance that we would order lots of noodles. Izakaya menu: We also tried the agedashi dofu (really nice, but without much dashi!), the karaage and the gyoza. They were all lovely, and the general izakaya menu sounded full of tasty dishes. I'd be up for trying more of them. Other: A group of my friends from Japan have been here several times, and they all really liked it... so I know this place could be amazing. I'll have to come back to try non-noodle items, and to have a sing in their karaoke booth.

For his birthday, my friend's only wish was to come here for an omakase and I cannot stop thinking…read moreabout it! I had to make about 200 calls to get a reservation but it was worth it. There are two sittings for omakase each day, one at 5:30PM and one at 8:30PM. The interior is very intimate and each sitting serves 7 people only. Bookings are made at least two weeks to one month in advance depending on their policy which changes from time to time. They only accept reservations through phone calls and based on my experience, it was pretty hard to get through so I'd definitely recommend reading through their website for what to do to secure yourself a reservation. My friend and I both got the sushi & sashimi omakase, which comes with three plates of sashimi, 7 pieces of sushi (all seasonally selected!) and a sweet tamago at the end. The sashimi and sushi are all seasonally selected and exotic! I got to try gurnard and turbot sushi which I've never had raw before! The fish is not only high quality and delicious but prepped and presented beautifully too. The variety of condiments selected for each sushi was carefully thought out, elevating each mouthful. The service was impeccable as was the food. The chef's wife and the waiters always came to check-in with us and walk us through the proper dining etiquette. Under the chef's wife's recommendation, we also shared some sake and plum wine. It was lovely watching the chef prep and make each piece of sushi, exhibiting his intent and passion with every movement. The whole session lasted a little over 2 hours and we enjoyed every bit of it! I highly recommend checking out Sushi Tetsu at least once in your life! Not to mention the omakase was only for £96 (excluding alcohol and any service charge), which is cheap for the amount of food you get and cheaper than many other omakase meals found in London.

If you do manage to find it, don't be put off by the lack of decor, particularly in the downstairs dining area in the windowless basement, where the off-white paint is starting to chip and crack in places. Miyama offers set lunch menus which look much better value than their a la carte and sushi selection, which includes miso soup to start and a dessert to finish, although still costing £20-30 a person, depending on which ones you choose. Bento boxes are also available, which looked amazing as I stole glances at our neighbouring table... The quality of food is unquestionably superb - very tasty, fresh, and with authentic flavours. Service was great too, with very personable staff, although food took a bit longer to deliver than the usual pace of life in the City.
