The ambiance is great and the restaurant is beautiful. We loved every server that we had while staying here. They were pretty quick with our orders and did not mind us catching up for longer than we probably should have while at a restaurant. That being said, the food just wasn't on par. Over our stay we tried multiple items (only got a picture of a couple of dishes though): Seafood pasta - great menu item, but bland Soup of the day - every night it was tomato bisque. We would have loved some variety Eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon (Double) - what else is there to say, pretty standard. Nothing special Oatmeal - Horribly bland and no accompaniments Buffalo Chicken Naan Bread - the chicken was fried which we didn't particularly care for and that too the oil tasted old giving that bitter taste. Had they used maybe the butter chicken instead, I think it would have been so much better Sweet Chili Cauliflower Bites - We actually enjoyed this one! No complaints Grilled Chicken Alfredo - bland and flavorless Tonic Butter Chicken with tofu sub - decent Primavera Frittata - bland It's like the chef is allergic to salt or something. Almost nothing was seasoned right. I will say, we were also not fans of how limited the breakfast options are for hotel guests and the fact that there wasn't anything that we could grab and go for mornings we had to leave early for a day trip. My continuing quest to find that perfect hot chicken sandwich continues. So, this place is not far from Calgary International Airport. It is attached to a nice hotel. This sandwich is mildly spicy and covered in a wet sauce but with a mild crunch. Now this is a it of a trick to navigate when it comes to spice and heat as this is a part of Canada known for beef and not necessarily spice. I asked for jalapeños to be added to the sandwich for increased heat as the server informed me that it was hot for the locals. The place has a modern design and has a deli style service counter when you enter. The place was busy with one server. It took a while to have our orders placed and to return with food. The server was polite but clearly overwhelmed. The chicken sandwich was served on a brioche roll with lettuce, and pickles. Good food in a great location - in Hotel Clique! We came here because we had a complimentary breakfast with our stay at the hotel and enjoyed a delightful breakfast. The ambiance was very laid back and the food was good. The waitress was kind but accidentally spilled coffee on my father which was a little scary at first but thankfully he was ok. Food overall is just alright. Middle of the road for a restaurant in a hotel, it's not bad but not great either. Service was okay. Ambiance is nice for watching sports and having a casual dining experience. Crème brûlée wasn't all the way torched, very light layer of sugar. Mostly just custard. Could not have had a better experience here! Enjoyed brunch and then dinner while staying at Hotel Clique. Both meals featured great food, generous portions and fair pricing. For brunch we both ordered the Hanger meal that had a bit of everything I want in a breakfast: eggs, toast, potatoes, all the meats (small portions of ham, bacon and a sausage) and even two triangles of French Toast. It was game over for hunger! The beef dip dinner featured very tender beef and a tasty au jus. We moved onto Google as that's where more Canadians and Europeans review establishments. That had great reviews so we gave it a try. TASTY! We had a quick stay at the hotel and this was the restaurant there. Had the tonic burger for dinner with fries and a side salad. Burger was big and juicy with fresh toppings. The french fries were super crispy. The side salads were fresh with crunchy croutons, cheese and bacon. The dressings, Caesar and balsamic, were tasty, but the bowls are deep and a little hard to eat out of. Breakfast came with our room. Had the frittata with mushrooms, broccoli, onions, and cheese with a side of potatoes and toast. It was delicious. The potatoes were crunchy and the toast was hot and buttery. Coffee was great. We tried the tonic burger as the menu stated it was voted one of Calgary's favourite burgers. It was on special as well and that made for a very great value. Fries were fresh and not over-salted. The burger did NOT disappoint- it had loads of bacon, cheese and was delicious. I ordered side gravy for my fries. A bit darker than I usually see and was an added fee but I finished it all so it was a decent gravy. Was too full for dessert but they had three options that sounded worth the try. Maybe next time. Decided to eat here since it was in the hotel and I am happy we did. My wife got the Cobb salad and loved it. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the ranch dressing very good. I wanted to try this place as I liked the hotel vibe. Server was friendly and well polished. The restaurant was empty as it was mid afternoon. I ordered French onion soup and the chicken Parmesan sandwich. The food quality was mediocre, the groceries on the sammy weren't the freshest. The soup tasted like balsamic vinegar which I didn't enjoy. My friend got the beef dip which was okay. Coffee wasn't the best as we went to Tim Hortons afterwards. Flanked by two great hotels stands the weakest link between them. The Tonic Kitchen+Bar. I have been to the Applause Hotel for couple of times. I really enjoy the hotel, but the restaurant needs to up their game. The first time I was here, I ended up with a cold chunk of meatloaf and I chalked it up to arriving late. This time, I was here on prime time dinner hour and they butchered the first attempted at medium NY Strip! The bartender took it back and had another one made. This time, it was not overcooked, however, I think I got the toughest piece of leather that I have ever been served. Let me tell you something, I know my STEAK! And I think I got a piece of revenge meat from the chef! There was nothing redeeming about the re-fired steak. It was tough, tough, tough! It even had those Ponderosa diamond grill marks. Finished half of it and gave up. When spending $30 for a chunk of beef, there should be something to enjoy. Now...it validates the fact that the first time I was here and the meatloaf was frozen, it was not me arriving late, it is just the food quality of the place. I rated the hotel 5 stars and I still would rate it 5 - however, I still need to dine when I travel and now that I know I can't eat at their restaurant, I will need to stay elsewhere! We came here for lunch November 14 on our way home to Edmonton from Banff. My husband ordered the Club Sandwich on gluten-free bread. Apparently this was not what he received and he became violently ill during the drive home and was sick for a day and a half. I called the restaurant when we arrived back home - I was told the manager would call me back but they did not. What is a huge issue for us didn't even warrant a phone call from them. We are staying in Hotel Clique and decided to order room service from Tonic. The food did show up quick, but everything we ordered wasn't near what we expected. The chicken Marsala was overcooked until the chicken was rock hard, my French onion soup was bland and the Mac n cheese Was worse than kraft dinner. I would have felt ripped off even if we paid half price for all this food, because the quality just wasn't there for the price. This restaurant is in the hotel near the Calgary international airport. It was pretty good here we went during happy hour so we got cocktails being a Mojito and a Cesar each were only five dollars. Then they also had select appetizers that were cheaper than the regular menu appetizer price but also smaller portions. For example we got a half portion of nachos and bruschetta. The bruschetta came with two pieces but was also half the price of it on the menu so we paid six dollars and the one on the menu was $13. I would be curious to see how big the portion would be for the $13 when we paid six dollars and got two pieces of bruschetta. I ordered beef for dinner one night and it was also good. The ahi salad was ok. Looks and feels like a truck stop diner complete with grumpy staff who don't enjoy thier job. The lady who sat us clearly did not like her job and didn't want to be there. She was short, snappy and gruff with us, not welcoming at all. Two service staff dropped plates and cutlery while clearing tables and just kept waking. Not a great first impression. The light above our booth was flickered and strobing. When we pointed it out, our server said oh yeah.... but did nothing. Offering to move us or have maintenance fix it would have been an appropriate option. Then when we ordered my husband asked for the buttermilk chicken and buscuits only to be told it wasn't available. No other reason, so he had to pick something else. If you have something on a menu that's not available or sold out your service staff should inform guests when they seat them. Working myself in the hospitality industry I found the experience less than enjoyable.
