Took off early from work to come here on a Thursday as a send-off to a colleague who was leaving. We didn't have reservations but they were able to sit us on the lounge side. It had been awhile since I had been to a Moxies. The place is quite spacious and inviting with a restaurant side and a lounge side. Our server was friendly but possibly due to large party had to ask for things multiple times. I was a little hungry and so got the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries which was really good. Unfortunately, I had a sauce bowl for the fries but it was missing the ketchup. I had to wait a bit to get ketchup. Washrooms were very clean and there was plenty of parking. read more

I asked for my stake medium, and it came out well done and as dry as a belt. The fries were decent, but somewhat over-fried. The salad was lacking in volume. I would not recommend this place if you're visiting Calgary. The only positives about the experience was that the servers were nice and the ambiance included a large horse statue with a lamp coming out of its forehead. read more

I came here in mid afternoon after getting off the plane. I received two different service attitude. My main server, who was a guy was not the nicest, I tried to flag him to add some food to order, but he seemed very irritated and did not want to give me eye contact. In contrast, the lady who actually brought the food out was in a much better mood. I wished she was my server for the day. The food was ok. The worst meal I have ever had in over 30 years of traveling. The mashed potatoes were cold, the beets were cold and burned and the asparagus was cold and as thick as toothpicks. The steak was so tough I could not even eat it. The bartender was over whelmed and inattentive. Half the people at the bar had an empty glass. They comped the meal for me which was a kind gesture. We went for dinner after getting off a flight. It's right by the Sandman hotel and super close to the Calgary airport (less than 10 min drive). It has a parking lot right next to it. The service was pretty good and the inside was clean and quite spacious. We were there on a Wed night and it wasn't too busy. The menu items are classic western foods (burgers, steak, etc) and the things ordered were very tasty and of high quality. Definitely satisfied our hunger after a long flight. They give enormous portions (especially the fries), probably enough for 1.5-2 meals! The only thing I would critique is the price. Personally would only come for special occasions as we spent $17-20+ per person for an entree (without tax and tip included), but maybe I am underestimating the quality and effort put into the dishes. read more

Moxie has gone through so many transitions of menu and look throughout the decades which kinda makes me feel ummm young at heart. This location seems to change quite frequently from decor and menu. Pricing has crept up over the years but the quality and look has move up. Burgers are tasty here as are the chicken fingers and soup. Staff are very friendly on restaurant and bar side. I had lunch today at Moxie's. They have a lounge side. I sat on the dining room side. I ordered the Double Stacked Turkey Club sandwich (minus the lettuce and cheese) with roasted baby potatoes. It's been a while since I've had a sandwich and this was a good one! The bread was tasty and soft and the bacon was indeed crisp. The baby potatoes were delicious! Spenser was my server. Not happy with this place at all. It's been about a week since I came in and I held off on the review so I could cool down. Servers weren't rude, but they weren't polite either. Chicken wings came out undercooked (still pink and chewy) and when I pointed it out the staff seemed to think I was being unreasonable. This was a work get-together for lunch for a peer who was moving on in her career. With over a dozen of us, the servers were able to keep up and deliver promptly for the hot food to be hot. Everyone expressed enjoyment of their meal. I had The Burger with no cheese and it met my expectations. We were seated at a line of high tables by a window, which was find for our group. The decor was bright, clean and modern, with visual appeal. It's a sizeable location that can accommodate a lot of people. Oh yeah, this place is cool. We sat at the bar, and were greeted by a personable and competent bartender. He made the best hard lemonade and old fashioned cocktails. He also gave us some excellent recommendations on what to do in Calgary. Thank you! I got the Nashville hot chicken, which was so delicious! Little buttermilk fried chicken balls on a bed of onion strings, with an amazing side of fry sauce. So good! Mr B had the beef dip sandwich on a pretzel bun, with mushrooms, aioli, and Swiss cheese. Usually french dip sandwiches are overcooked and dry, but this was rare and juicy. Fries were hot and tasty too. Food is ok pretty standard for what it is I'm sure I'd be better if they had given me what I ordered. Service however is a hit and miss. I stayed at the hotel attached to the restaurant so I ate here many time during my stay. And today I've had it! I came in the restaurant for lunch and I stood where the host should be for a solid 3 mins multiple people made eye contact with me and just ignored me. When they finally sat me down he walked away left me without a menu and he started chatting with the other waitress. I had to get up and grab my own menu. Completely ridiculous!! I came here pretty hungry after getting off the plane and checking into my hotel across the street. The service seemed a bit slow for a late afternoon lunch, but luckily I wasn't in too much of a rush. I ordered the fish tacos and I think that was my mistake since this is really more of the kind of place to order a nice burger. The veggies in the taco seemed fresh, but the fish itself wasn't too flavorful and the tortilla was subpar for me. That being said, the sides were really good. I opted to upgrade for sweet potato fries and they were amazing! It also came with a side of aioli to dip in. My boyfriend ordered the steak sandwich and was also a little underwhelmed. I was denied service and thrown out because I showed proof of the Johnson and Johnson Covid vaccine. They stated that as a matter of company policy they do not accept the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Very disappointing. In response to the response from the GM, Johnson and Johnson is considered fully vaccinated by the government of Alberta. So prospective patrons beware. I was staying at the hotel across the street and was super hungry late at night. I decided to try out Moxie's and it was great! They offer a special happy hour menu (in addition to the regular menu I believe) after 9pm. I ordered the Miso Ramen and it was amazing. I know some people were complaining in the reviews about the prices - but if you're American the exchange rate makes it cheap! My server Nicole was great too! This place is a hidden gem. read more

This was the 3rd time I've been to Moxie's. The first two times were in Toronto. While prior experiences have been positive this one was pretty bad. Three families came in and had a total of 6-7 kids all under the age of 8 or 10. They allowed the parents to sit at one table and put all the kids at another. Needless to say it was a disaster. Kids running around, screaming, just horrible. This is not Applebees and entrees are not $10 bucks. We said something to the manager who told us there was nothing she could do. I was as upset with the inconsiderate family as I was with the property management. Even the two waitresses serving the area were having difficulty. Poor management. As a goodwill gesture the manager comp'd us my beer and our nachos. Bill was still $90.00. Wont be visiting Moxie's again. Manager needs to go back to school to take some classes on handling conflict. A good idea would be the book Crucial Conversations. read more

Don't listen to the negative OLD reviews, try the place out. I was reluctant to give it a shot, but having ate at the hotel restaurant across the street the evening before I wanted something different. The atmosphere in the lounge was energetic and lively and could be a little too much for someone looking for a quiet dinner, I would recommend the dinning room portion for a more subtle experience. As I was by myself I opted for the lounge and bellied up to the bar. I ordered a nice Cabernet - Hess from Napa which was reasonably priced ($16 can) for a 9 oz. glass and a water. As expected, the Hess delivered on a delightful full body red that was not too bold (I was ordering Salmon and did not want to overpower my entree). For my entree I selected their Salmon Avocado Cobb Salad which was out of this world! I declined the peppercorn ranch and just went with the sundried tomato vinaigrette which was very good. The bar tender informed me that the chef would prepare the Salmon medium rare, hello...perfect! Not only was the salmon and full strips of bacon cooked to perfection, but instead of the usual hard boiled egg that accompany a Cobb salad, theirs were soft boiled. This added a whole new dimension and depth to the salmon and bacon. Absolutely amazing dinner and at a very reasonable price. $36 can before tip and it was worth that if not double. I was staying at the hotel for a conference so that's how we ended up here. We went to Moxie's for drinks and dinner. It is true, the waitresses are more of a high class Hooters. Waitresses were nice. The place however is full of men. lol. So I'm in agreement with the other comment - a tad creepy. lol The bellini drink that I had was quite good. The steak was incredible. Best steak in Calgary (then again i'm only comparing to one other steak). They did a perfect job at making it medium rare and the seasoning was simple but enough to bring out the flavours of the steak and not take away from it. The bathrooms were very clean. I'm a business traveler and came here because I can get a healthy, good bite and get some work done. Unfortunately, their internet was producing no signal and the manager didn't know how to fix it. I was told it happens often. Big downfall for for some of us. Meanwhile, the service was fair (I came at 9:30 and they seemed low on servers). Still, the lemon pepper haddock I had was excellent. Might be one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. I had some very basic requests, as little oil as possible and rice instead of potato with my salmon. When it came there was oily potato and very greasy green beans that look like they were bought dehydrated and half way reconstituted. Unlike other reviews on here my server was actually very accommodating and got me my rice and some more inedible vegetables. I had a similar experience at at the Toronto location so this will for sure be the last time I ever visit a moxies. I have been cooking for a living for about 18 years so I really do know how easy it is the accommodate these requests. I went on a Saturday, late afternoon around 4:30. I was by myself as my hubby didn't want to go out! I really needed a drink, I became deaf a couple of weeks ago and it is difficult to deal with, and the fact my hubby wasn't with me made it harder! My server was excellent, I went to the lounge and sat at an upper table, she came right away, and when I told her I couldn't hear she was great at making me feel looked after and did her best to communicate with me! The drink menu was minimal for myself as I like 2 oz sweeter martini's or cocktails, but the only choice I had was strawberry fields, which turned out to be the perfect drink for me, but when I had ordered the second one they were out?? On a Saturday? I had not much else I wanted so I ordered a glass of red... To finish off with my dessert I ordered Moxies special coffee it had Bailey's and frangelico, and the menu described whipping cream, so I requested a sugared rim as well! No problem except when I got it, it was in a big mug so can't taste liquor, no whipping cream and rim was hard to sugar as it wasn't in a cocktail coffee glass it was a mug?? I ordered beef dip with fries, and it was on a pretzel bun with mushrooms and Swiss cheese, it was yummy but very messy and hard to bite off as roast was too thick, I had to rip it! But very good just maybe thinner sliced beef?? Fries were good and surprisingly went with the red wine lol!! (19 crimes) Dessert was sticky toffee cake with ice cream and so glad they offered mini size, it was fabulous too bad had no good coffee with it! Overall liked it oh and ambiance was nice and lots of T.V for sports fans, maybe 1 T.V with closed captioning for us deaf people would be nice!! This is our last night in Canada and our first steak! Moxie's was across the street from our hotel and our car was gone so we walked . I have to say it was great! Our waitress had just returned from volunteering in Sri Lanka but did not let jet lag interfere with her service . The steak sandwich and guacamole were both tasty . I honestly enjoy happy hour only because I can't eat large meals so their happy hour options was good enough for me. They offered guacamole and chips, Mediterranean dip, fish tacos, quesadillas, sweet potato fries and dip....all between $4 to $9. I ordered 2 fish tacos because I wasn't particularly that hungry. But it has so many toppings like pineapple, radish, cilantro and red cabbage slaw. The fish was a white fish like haddock or halibut and grilled. It came with hot pepper sauce you can add to your liking. I liked it spicy and even then I can still taste the flavors of all the toppings together. I really enjoyed it and it was just enough for me.
