We ate the moco loco. Spam, white rice wrapped in seaweed. Tasty. Drinks-kraken the dole whip, Tikitastic, cucumber Caliente and the Palm Springs express. The service was awesome Daniel was amazing. The seating comfortable. We got to check out the secret room. A highlight to my wife's birthday.

Tonga hut is a cool place! My friends and I kept passing it and finally stopped in for a quick beverage. The staff and vibe is so mellow and chill. Everyone was great including the other guests. They have games, a separate restaurant and a Balcony too. I would really love to check out this place at night! Staff is 10/10!!!

Obsessed with this place! The cocktails were boozy, refreshingly tropical/sweet, and affordable for size! Fries hit the spot as well. Various Jenga games on tables were fun activity.

Tonga Hut is always fun. There is a hidden area for large group venues. A friend had his birthday get together at Tonga Hut and it was a blast. Pu Pu platters and drinks for everyone! Lol... This time we enjoyed the chicken skewers and vegetable egg rolls. Very tropical and delicious Kraken cocktails. Enjoy an evening in Tiki Town with balcony seating overlooking Palm Canyon Drive and the Polynesian decor. They also have Happy Hour.

Tonga Hut is all about atmosphere and it has it in spades. If you're looking for a dimly lit tiki bar with lots of vintage wood accents, South Pacific kitsch and strong fruity drinks, this is your place. The folks here are friendly and the food, while not the best, seems content to play a supporting role to the aforementioned ambiance. My wife and I shared a punch bowl (heavily spiked and a great value at $30), sliders, and the appetizer sampler. All were solid--nothing to write home about and the gyozas could have been served a bit warmer. All and all, if you're looking to escape from the brutal heat of the desert and imagine being in a bar straight out of the original Hawaii Five-O, this is as good as it gets. (3.5 stars).

Tonga Hut is a really cool tiki bar in Palm Springs at the top of a narrow staircase. Be careful ascending and descending those stairs! It is a small-ish place. A small bar, some really cool lounge type seating and a small balcony overlooking the street below. The four of us snagged the last seats in the house, a small booth along the wall. We were having dinner elsewhere later that night, so we opted just for drinks. I'm beer only so Kona Big Wave for me. The others opted for the Scorpion Bowl. A giant drink of rum, brandy, orgeat syrup, and tropical juices with fresh fruit garnishes floating on top. Served in a giant clam shell bowl. It was a sight to behold! Fun little tiki bar. Service was great.

This Tiki bar was a place to visit for the hubby. Great seating and the place is nicely decorated tiki style. The workers were nice and always checking in on us. The drinks were definitely tiki, Mai Tai, and all. The food was good paired with the drinks. Definitely will come back when we visit.

Fun tiki bar above downtown Palm Springs. Loves the decorations and atmosphere. It was small but most tiki bars are. Drinks were strong, food was mediocre. The egg rolls were extremely greasy. Loved our server. She had our drinks made in fun cups even though they typically didn't come in one.

A unique experience in Palm Springs! This place can be quite crowded during the peak seasons in Palm Springs, but it is definitely a place one should visit if they are looking for a cool bar to get drinks at! Drinks (3.75/5) The drinks here are strong, but not as well balanced as other similar bars in the area. I ordered the 1934 zombie and it was strong but had a sour aftertaste to it. There is a limit of 2 drinks per person of this particular cocktail but it isn't as strong as you would imagine. My friend ordered an old fashioned and thought his drink was a little too sweet and not that much alcohol in it. There's also bowl drinks one can order it in a large group, but I would imagine that drink would be on the sweeter side as well. Service (4/5) The hostess and bartender were friendly and accommodating; however, the bartender was not that social and kept to himself. The drinks came out fairly quickly after ordering, but there was also not that many other people inside as I went at 5pm. This place does get very busy during the peak season so expect longer waits (no reservations allowed here, walk in only) Ambiance. (4.25/5) This bar is on the second floor of the building but it is much larger than the other tiki bar in the city. I appreciate that this place has multiple rooms and even a secret room to hang out. Also, this bar has a nice outdoor patio that overlooks the street of downtown Palm Springs. The interior is decorated in a somewhat tropical style but it feels a bit dated. While coming here on a day where it was 110 degrees Fahrenheit outside, there was some air conditioning and fans running inside to stay cool. Overall, I would probably return with visitors for a unique bar experience in Palm Springs.

Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Drinks: 5/5 Price: 3/5 Parking: 4/5 Came by on a Wednesday evening. Kevin was exceptionally kind to us. Maria was our server who did phenomenal. The drinks were fantastic, the food was typical tiki bites but elevated, and the theming was perfect. I highly recommend visiting, and next time I'm in town I'll be here.

I look for a Tiki bar in every city I visit. Here in Palm Springs, CA I love the fun decor & there are so many island drinks to choose from with a souvenir glass to purchase. My go to drink is the Mai Tai...full of rums & fruit juices. I ordered chicken skewers that were solid strips of chicken dipped in soy sauce that was filling. They offer a great HH menu if you can make it & the service is friendly.

Do you take reservations ? Have seen conflicting answers.

No. We are first come, first serve.

    Are you open on Thanksgiving?

    No.

Do they do private events or take larger party reservations?

Yes we do. Please call for more information.

Do you have to be 21 to get in?

Up until our kitchen closes for restaurant service we are available to all age groups. Once the kitchen closes, we transition to bar service only and thus you must be 21 years of age or older to come in.

    Is it taking any reservations?

Yes, they are recommended as there is limited space

    Tv for sports?

No as of now there is only patio dining with no tv. I don't know about non Covid times but I'm willing to guess that they do not, it is a dark, moody tiki bar, tv would ruin the ambiance I personally think.

Can we order cocktails to-go during COVID? Do we call in the order or have to order in the bar?

    Yes

    Vegan options on the menu?

There's food there? Cocktails are # draw. Now that j think if it yes. It's PS. Always a vegetarian option.

When you buy a drink does it come with a tiki mug that you can pay extra to take home? If so, anyone know the price?

You can buy a mug there for about $50. Just the one style that says Tonga Hut on the back. I have one. It is a nice mug. You can then bring it the next time form them to use with your drinks.… Read more

    Can I bring children?

    Yes! Family friendly!

Can I bring my dog with us to your place?

I have been to the Tonga Hut several times and haven't seen anyone bring in a dog. This place is upstairs and has a small patio.

Are there any gluten free dishes or items on the menu?

Yes we have gluten free options on the menu. Sunset Salmon salad comes to mind and pineapple fried rice and some other options such as stir fry veggies.

Does this tiki bar have a happy hour?

No that I am aware of. Although, at the Tonga Hut, every hour is happy hour.

Does this place serve kava? That's a true Tongan drink!!

No, it is a Tiki Bar. They have no traditional Tongan food or drink.

The drinks were strong and well-made, and even though the place was packed, our waitress stayed attentive and checked in with us consistently. It's clear they specialize in more elaborate cocktails, so a bit of a wait is understandable. The ambiance is also a highlight--dark, intimate, and really leans into the tiki vibe. **Night two** was the complete opposite. We accidentally mixed up our reservation time, but since the place was nearly empty, we were seated right away, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. We had a different waitress, and despite being one of only a few parties there when we arrived, we waited **45 minutes** without seeing our drinks--while other groups seated after us were already being served (and even getting second rounds). We eventually had to flag down our waitress, who had hardly checked on us at all. When we asked about the delay, she said they were "very busy,". After mentioning how long we'd been waiting, there wasn't any real apology--just visible annoyance. She told us our drinks were "up next," but after another 20 minutes passed with nothing, we decided to leave after over an hour of waiting. It was disappointing, especially after such a positive first experience. A simple apology or some communication would have gone a long way. Sadly, the inconsistency makes it hard to know which version of this place you're going to get.

Neil was welcoming, accommodating, and personally secured a table for our party of six when we returned after 9pm. His hospitality and the venue concept itself are excellent. Unfortunately, the service we received afterward from another staff member, Billy, did not match that standard. The venue is extremely dark, so we used the small table lamp to read the menu. Billy instructed us not to use it because it "wasn't the vibe of the establishment," and told us to use our phone lights instead. The tone was abrupt and dismissive. Around 9:50pm he announced last call. When one guest ordered, his response was, "I guess if you must." Others asked for a moment to decide and were repeatedly rushed. We explained we weren't aware they closed as 10, as Neil had told us it would be open seating after 10. He replied, "Yeah, well I'm closing tonight and I'm closing at 10." When drinks were delivered, they were set down forcefully. As we were leaving, a member of our group overheard Billy speaking negatively about us to another employee, including mocking someone in our group for needing glasses to read the menu and implying she was intoxicated (she wasn't). When this was addressed directly, he did not apologize and instead insisted we had overstayed, which is inaccurate. We ordered promptly after being told last call and left after finishing our drinks. We are locals who intentionally brought out-of-town guests here because we wanted them to have a great experience. It's disappointing that one staff member's conduct overshadowed what should have been a highlight of their visit. I won't assign motives, but I will note that Billy's demeanor noticeably shifted after the final member of our group, who happens to be Black, arrived. I cannot determine why, only that the change in tone was clear. Neil has created something special here. However, a venue's reputation ultimately depends on how guests are treated when ownership is not present. Based on this visit, there is a significant gap between the hospitality the owner provides and the service delivered in his absence. I hope Neil takes a close look at what happens when he's not present, because with the right staff, this could easily be a place we'd want to return to.

We wanted to grab a drink at the Window Bar (not knowing that was its actual name, but the conversation we had with the bartender about that window shining too much light at certain parts of the morning definitely gave me a chuckle in hindsight). We happened to be a bit early since he had not been able to finish setting up shop yet. We went ahead and waited until he was ready without rushing him because we ourselves weren't in any rush at all. Surrounded by a ton of nice interesting artwork, it was a pure joy to enjoy a drink or two in this environment. The bar can be found at the corner on the other side of the hotel concierge in plain sight from such a big space for a lobby, directly left upon entrance through the front. Since it was slow in the morning, we were able to chat it up with the bartender and even explore a bit of experimentation in the form of a particular top secret cocktail that every mixologist knows. I definitely exercised my etiquette and reading the conditions to even suggest it. He couldn't be any nicer about our time with him. So yeah, Christopher H. from 9/9/18, I don't know what you're talking about. I make it a point to visit the bar at any Kimpton location nowadays. I always seem to have a good time. But then again, I can only speak for myself. Parking: Street, unless you're a guest at the hotel. FYI: - Despite the hours on Yelp saying this place is open from 4-10pm, they might open earlier, as we joined in at around 11am or noon. But don't hold me to it. If there's somebody at the bar, you'll need to simply ask if it is open yet.
